They're a little bit dusty and very hairy, but you can probably fix that by using tweezers to pick up all the hair, then using a blow dryer. Maybe. Other than that, I think they look quite nice! The banner is cool, I like the icy weapon effect you did and the basing is nice too.

Can Wizards make a regular attack using their Attack characteristics in addition to the Assailment spell, or is it an either-or scenario? I'm just trying to think of the viability of running an Illusion Wizard in a fighter unit with Spectral Doppleganger. On paper it looks fun, but I'm afraid that the 2d6 attacks will just average out at whatever their usual attack score is.

>>

yeah, squigs come in all shapes, sizes and colours, despite the bouncy red ball with teeth and legs being the most common and famous ones.

depending on your view of greenskins' origins and reproduction, that would mean that orcs and goblins too could have the potential to come in all sorts of different forms and colours, and that the dominant green ones simply beat the shit of everything coming up "not proper"

but my absolute favourite part is the design of the evil sun, the curved tusks and especially ones represented by real tusks mounted on the shield, it's a perfect development for that classic symbol

>>
>>94844447
>>94844425
You jest, but it's an important distinction.

Degeneracy reached its peak in different places at different times. France was rather tame and catholic until Lois 14th blew all his GDP on coke and hookers, but places like Venice have been degenerate shitholes from 1400 to 1500 already.
Meanwhile German Cities would have been rather degenerate in the late 1400s and early 1500s, but the Reformation Wars would cause a lot of protestant puritanism and cut down on the Degeneracy, while the 30 years war pretty much prevented most late Renaissance degeneracy outside some select courts like Vienna, who wouldn't reach their prime until the mid 1700s.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands were never that degenerate, too prudish and autistic for that.
Then you got places like the US who are peaking in terms of Degeneracy only now.

You can do both. The wizard casts assailments on his initiative, but depending on the weapon he has he attacks and casts Spectral Doppelganger on his modified initiative. So, if you're using a weapon that has Strikes Last, but you also have other assailments, your wizard can cast Hammerhand on his normal initiative and then attack and cast Spectral Doppelganger on initiative 1.

So where is it worst, Marienburg?

does a unit on a mount (e.g bloodcrushers are on juggernauts) get all the special rules of the mount, as listed in the mounts own rules section?
or do they only get the rules as listed on the units base profile?

I guess I'll wield them in 3 units of 10, I just ranked them up like that for the photo. The chaos knights you've posted were a charming set, but damn they're hard to rank up even with 60x30mm bases. I think the 6th edition metal knights were the coolest chaos knights gw ever did.

Finished Castle, from AI Sloppa Concept to map.
I'm quite content with how it turned out, hit some pretty big roadblocks with the courtyard and general setup now and then, but mistakes into miracles as they say. The overgrown aspect was really fun to flesh out once I had the basic method figured out.

Everything thinks we're getting Cathay as the secret 10th faction, but the retiring of black knights/grave guard and replacement vampire lords in AoS makes we think we're going to see Vampire Counts fully added to TOW.

>>
>>94845011
I agree, love those 6th ed knights; this set was given to me as a gift so these are what I'm going with for now. I've grown to appreciate them more but to be honest it's been a grind.
As for the bases, my plan was to base all my army for 6th Ed and include Old World unit trays; this unit has defeated me. I could barely get them on the 30 by 60s, a 25mm frontage would be a nightmare and I simply could not be arsed. If (when) I acquire some of the classic Knights I'll have them on the smaller bases.
>>
>>94845027
Itd make more sense to bring back demons than vampire counts at that point. Besides it’s dogs of war stop pretending it’s something as grand as Cathay.

for your edification the issue was on high elf female warriors specifically. dark elves used to be the only elf faction that had female line troopers/captains. which made for an interesting contrast between them and high/wood elves. later on woodies would alter their lore with a retcon that made them egalitarian in almost every aspect of their culture (minus a few exceptions e.g. wild riders). which did not mirror the dark elves completely either, since their girls only were included in the mainstay troops, not any of the elite soldiery minus witch elves of course. the high elves for their part have always had men doing the fighting, pretty much without exception except for the Handmaidens of the Everqueen. no models, no lore. nadda. only by the time of 8th ed. did the idea of female high elf warriors creep in because of SJW bullshit. and note, they shot straight to the top. no soldiery were ever shown to be female, but all of a sudden girls were bossing them around.
>>
>>94845529

They are OK-ish. As an oldfag I have many of those in my armies (especially orcs and goblins, but I also have some WoC and beastmen minis from that era; I also have halberdiers but I bought them quite recently). I wouldn't recommend them tho', unless you can get them for pennies, altough since they already are 30+ years old, they kinda get pricey nowadays).

Pic related.

For my "edification" you say?

>the issue was on high elf female warriors specifically
I, specifically, mentioned the dark elf warrior kit due to its relevance in terms of showing that "well its not on the models!" is not a good argument.

>since their girls only were included in the mainstay troops
As models. which has already been established to not be a solid argument. We know there are female cold one knights for example, there are also female beastmasters and highborn. Just about the only thing where you wont find females in the dark elf army is assassins, black guard and executioners.

On the topic of getting the 7th ed plastic knights to rank up on 25x50mm bases, I've found a couple tricks that could be helpful. Do keep in mind that I had to reposition my 5th knight on his base in order to get these guys to rank up properly long after they were built and painted.
1) Don't be afraid to file down or trim certain parts of the shields if you have to. It will look bad when the model is viewed on its own, but once they're ranked up it'll look fine. Probably.
2) Positioning matters. That sounds like an incredibly obvious statement, but it's true. If you can make your champion, standard bearer and musician rank up properly, the 1-2 models on the sides just need to be moved further to the left or right side of their base. It won't look perfect, but it'll work. Don't be afraid to angle them differently either, if that's what you need to do to get them to rank up.
3) Regarding having extra ranks of knights behind the first... forget it! You can probably do it, but you'll either need to position the knights in the first rank too far forward for them to have proper base to base contact when they get into combat or the knights in the second rank will have to be too far back for the unit to look nice. It's also not even worth it from a gameplay perspective, use those models for a second unit instead.
On a semi-related note, it's nice seeing more chaos players in the thread. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys do with the rest of your armies. I'll be painting some old-school knights in the near future myself and I hope they aren't as much of a pain to rank up on 25s as these were.

You certainly did. I would have liked for my entire army to be built using the 5th ed kits, but they're hard to find so I decided that I'd only use them as units of undivided chosen warriors or knights. Maybe someday I'll locate enough of them to have an era-appropriate 5th ed army.
>>94846050
That is an obscene amount of dragons ogres. I can respect that. Their shields are even flat enough that you could freehand something on them, if you wanted to. I'm not a huge fan of dogres myself, but they're definitely strong. Regarding characters, I think finding and painting the character models you like the most is the best part of collecting a chaos army. There's been dozens and dozens of chaos champions and sorcerers released over the years and a lot of them are fairly easy to find for a (relatively...) reasonable price if you know where to look. I'm looking forward to seeing which ones you decide to collect!

Since GW has now created an almost complete separate line of models between Vampire Counts and AoS undead (like the WoC), they can relaunch the old VC line with no cross over between TOW and AoS, since that seems to be a hang up they have now.
I don't know why they don't have Daemons come back because they are supposed to be the army in every game, but I would assume it's to do with the above stated reason.

No argument against that, or against the fact that aos ranges have a very different design philosophy for their sculpts, what I'm saying is that at a conceptual level, given the extremes some factions can get to, I hardly find asian elves with landmarks spirits any weirder than wood elves with forest spirits, or bone golems of nagash any weirder than egyptian undead with animated statues, or deep sea elves when we have lizardmen with dinosaurs, or again steampunk dwarfs when we already have industrial hell dwarfs.

Making Chrace the LIONKINGdom. Everything is Lions in Chrace, the pets are Lions, the mounts are Lions the clothing is Lions.

White Lions were a special cadre of Warriors who had killed a native beast and wore its pelt as a trophy, that was the extent of their involvement with Lions. The more domesticated you imply White Lions as a species to be, the less impressive it becomes when someone wears their skin.
>>

Doesn't sound like there's a real demand frankly, every time I heard a dwarffag mention something they like about their faction it's some kind of gun or cannon.

Should TOW reach the point where it can put out serious amounts of new plastic ranges, then a sub range of norse dwarf that aims to update warriors, quarrelers, slayers, trve longbeards and anvil would be an absolute must.

by that metric TOW doesn't have a dragon issue either, it has an issue with similar lord choices that can stack protective magical items and upgrades on the dragon

if all the involved protective items got restricted to non-monsters only then tow wouldn't have a problem with dragons anymore since they could be managed with massed fire, artillery or great weapons at that point
>>
>>94846707
>Mousillon would be an army of infamy
Actually quite likely. It fits the time period, and gives a cavalry army which GW love. They could give black knights the lance formation for fun.

Actually less likely is Sylvania with allied state troops. It looks like they don't want any crossover between the good and evil books (hence the lack of dwarfs with the Norse, and the two types of mercenary ogres).

That art (now deleted, not sure why) is not fat or overly voluptuous or whatever else, its literally just an attractive woman with an entirely normal build with elf ears. Although I would bet that there is probably a fat elf out there in the lore, probably mentioned in some book or another

Its not "within the style of warhammer art", but thats mainly because the features are soft and because the ears are the wrong shape. Eastern elves have the ears go horizontal, while on western elves the ears go vertical. Warhammer art tends towards hard lines and sharp edges, while that particular piece was generally very rounded and soft looking.

Oh sorry anon.
What we've been told from TOW so far is that they are mostly staying under the radar, and the Von Carstein are well and truly out of the picture at the moment.
From the 8th ed army book they would take root in Mousillon after Duke Maldred around 2300 IC, and just after the Great War Ostermark would fight multiple battles against the Vampire Waldakir Rahtep and his undead army.
The Tzarina that succeeded Alexis 2 years after the Great War was a Lahmian Vampire and she reigned for about a century and a bit before some Empire Witch hunters pointed out that she was a Vampire to the Kislevites, who were pretty unperturbed by it until they were informed that she wouldn't die of age and that there would be no climbing up the ranks for them, so they then killed her and stuck her (somehow) human son on the throne.
So while they are currently underground, there is room to have them start rebuilding their strength parts of the world other than Sylvania, and the current Von Carstein power vacuum means that they could focus on other Vampire bloodlines like the Lahmian's.

It's not about style, what caused this was an anon pointing out that warhammer elves would have less bodyfat.
Yes, that means less than normal on human average. They aren't humans.
And of course fanart fap-pics always depict their facial features as just rudimentary attractive human female with pointy ears.
And no, pointing that out doesn't mean one wants them to look like weird aliens or that one says they are hard-canon depicted that way.
But they have been drawn with non-human, classic fantasy elfen facial features since forever (elongated faces, hawkish features, almond-shaped eyes), even when different artists had their own take on that, portraying this through their own style.

Simple as.
Lionesses live in packs with their cubs in the hills, lions live alone high in the Annulii Mountains.
Because of the magic/chaos in the mountains peaks the older a male is the are the bigger and stronger he is, infused with magic.
Lionesses are fierce in protecting their cubs but also more social which means they can be domesticated if captured young enough.

You are correct! But also, you are wrong! The golden eye of tzeentch specifically gave a 3+ ward save against all missile attacks to both the rider wearing it and his mount. As you can probably guess, whoever came up with that item was smoking crack. Normally, in 6th, the rider's items and armour only protected the rider, not his mount. This is not the case in TOW, because the rider's and his mount's profiles are combined. However, you are correct, the easy access to ward and regen saves is what makes dragons so annoying (not that I would know, I still haven't played against someone with a dragon lord) in TOW. But it's not that simple either. Setting aside the fact that, generally speaking, dragons were not good in 6th, as they got evaporated by cannons immediately, TOW's dragon problem stems from the fact that almost every army can make a giga-satan dragon lord. In 6th, it was really only tzeentch armies that got to bring their retarded strong chaos lord on a dragon. Therefore, 6th did not have a dragon problem. It had a tzeentch chaos lord (who, by the way, is also a level 4 wizard) on a dragon with the golden eye of tzeentch problem.

so you're right from a gameplay perspective, but the model ranges were definitely tending towards bigger showcase models. actually, do any anons remember when the plastic giant kit came out? 6th or 7th?

Oh sure, 8th (and 7th before it) added a lot of monster models. The hydra got a model in 7th and then a new model in 8th to duo-kit with another big monster. Bunch of new plastic dragons. Chaos got a bunch of big monsters. Greenskins got the spider. TK got some big shit.

And all of those monsters fucking sucked. Out of every new thing they added in 8th that fit on a 50x100 or bigger, basically only the chimera was good, and only the chimera, war-hydra and war-sphinx saw any play. So I really wouldnt say theyre "centerpieces", at least in game terms. It might have been that big cool model your collection revolved around, but realistically it was something that collected dust on your shelf while you fielded 20 more spearmen.

But its also worth mentioning that models in general were getting bigger by then too (from 6th onwards). Monstrous units/cavalry became a thing, cavalry in general became taller, chariots got beefier. 7e cold one knights were a lot bigger than 6e cold one knights. 7e chaos knights are a lot bigger than the 6e chaos knights.

>do any anons remember when the plastic giant kit came out? 6th or 7th?

Also yes, that was a magic item that he could use. I also didn't mention that mono-tzeentch armies were pretty OP back then too, even without the dragon lord. Not only were screamers really good, but having extra power dice (aka enough power dice to actually cast all the spells you want to cast) was real nice. There were some degenerate army lists that could get something stupid like 20 power dice by spamming chariots. Disgusting! But, when I look at the absolute state of the mark of tzeentch right now, I yearn for those days, even if my army only has one unit of tzeentch warriors.

Older single pose plastic models have a lot of soul. They do tend to lack detail compared to newer models but a lot of that can be countered with competent painting. The main issue with them these days tends to be the scale looks wrong when used alongside newer models for the faction.
>>
>>94846511
They can't do anything to stop 3rd party models. The only thing they protect is their trademarks which they know they can enforce. Everything else replies upon people caving to C&Ds and threats of legal action, but in general they only go after those using the trademarked names, or where people are charging for direct copies of their stuff. They are living on borrowed time in regards to being able to bully 3D printing stuff into some amount of compliance though.

Yeah practically they can't actually go after all the 3D sculptors and the remasters, but if they provide a model for something, then they retain the legal right to sue someone who copies it. If they don't make a model of something in their art, then someone else can come along and make it. So where does "providing instructions to build the model yourself" fall on that scale?

I like my High Elves to have bright iris colours like light grey, blue and green.
I like my Dark Elves to have dark and unnatural iris colours, like purple and dark grey.
I like my Wood Elves to have midnight black eyes, with no distinguishable iris or pupil.

>then they retain the legal right to sue someone who copies it
Up to a certain point. If it is a carbon copy then yes they can legally pursue it, at least for sure when it comes to physical models. The debate is still on about STLs made in the image of existing models simply because the product itself is a digital file with isn't something GW actually sells so it therefore cannot be mistaken as legit which is what the actual laws around brand dilution/counterfeiting/whatever are. It just hasn't gone to court yet since no one has pushed back on it legally yet. Cults3D took a pretty reasonable stance on the issue and said they will not knowingly host STLs that are carbon copies of existing models, but anything else is basically fair game so long as trademarks are not used. They didn't even take down the guy doing the rips from TWW, those were taken down by the creator under legal threat via the US court system because GW basically bankrupted the guy with legal proceedings before any ruling could be made. 3D printing really isn't the threat to GW that people make it out to be. At least not yet, but if volumetric printing pans out like we hope it does then it will be a real threat to them.

I think it'll be a long time before it's cost effective for the casual wargamer to have their own printer, but it's definitely an option for independent mini creators or printing services where you send your files. Issue is, there already models made of cast resin or injection-moulded plastic which are cheaper than GW, but they haven't yet caused GW to lower their prices.

The price is already around the point where it isn't hard to get into it, but the learning curve and time involved is what largely deters the casual from adopting it. Along with the exaggerations of 'safety' concerns. That is why it wasn't a real threat to GW's business since they get plenty of casual walk-in business as it were. But if volumetric pans out and the learning curve and time involved drops to basically zero it will only be a matter of time before that tech comes down in price to make it consumer ready. And print on demand places will adopt it early and be able to pump out stuff significantly quicker than before with less hassle involved. All this being said I doubt GW would ever actually drop prices to try and compete. The result will just be a further disconnection of GW as a requirement for the hobby. Definitely won't kill them, but they might at least have to acknowledge it to some degree and maybe even adapt to support it down the road.

Kinda surprising that none of the border princes on the map are from Cathay. Seems like an easy place for GW to put them to be relevant in the old world
>>
>>94848557
The other issue is that the casual player won't be printing multiple armies' worth of miniatures. They'll probably find a couple of designs they like online and then just buy the rest as plastic kits
>>
>>94848647
Yeah that is basically why GW's casual business isn't currently under threat. But if volumetric works then print on demand can be significantly cheaper and readily available with much better quality than we currently see from print on demand. At which point it will come down to STL availability and the smarter creators will be selling commercial licenses directly to printers effectively creating a proper market. Fuck knows how the Chinese recasters might adapt to this as well, but they could potentially even undercut the print on demand. It will be interesting times regardless.

In the original skaven article (and I believe a few other places) it's described as black or a void.

In fact, the first place it's shown as green might be in Mordheim. The skaven had green gas and green magic for a long time so it was a simple step to make it green. I've seen pics where it's black with a green light/edges, but in time it just became simpsons uranium.

How attacks will High Elf spearmen get in CC in 8th?

By my math, with 10 frontage, the first two ranks fight, Spears allow a third, and Martial Prowess allows a 4th rank. Is that right? Am I off?
>>
I don't know how thread relevant this is, but I'm trying to prove if I'm crazy or not... was there an article in White Dwarf specifically focused on the Empire's Steam Tank? Like, I know that in 6e's days there were three articles on Steam Tank lore, and a Warhammer Chronicles article giving rules for Steam Tanks in 6e, but was there specifically an article that gave option rules for upgrading your Steam Tank to resemble one of the named Steam Tanks from canon? The gun-less, ramming-focused Sigmar's Hammer, the mortar-toting Implacable, or Von Zeppel's design, which was basically a throwback to 4e's War Wagon and served as a platform for a bunch of engineers with experimental weapons?

I'm thinking maybe it was a 7e expansion, since 7e gave the Steam Tank an entry in the Empire's new codex, but didn't give it any variants/upgrades...

How many Von Carsteins were there? WHF seems to imply there's enough that you can make up your own, but it's hard to imagine more than the few named characters we have. I'm trying to write a vampire that got lost in the Von Carstein war, drifted into the moot, and was forcefully domesticated by a village of halflings that recognized the horror of an empty stomach was in their midst. It could be any house tbdesu, but I'm not sure how vamp clans work in WHF or if any others were involved in the war. I don't even have a name for my vampire, he's just the Shadow Elder after living there for a hundred years.
>>
>>94849355
It still is. They mention in the articles that the border princes shift to quickly for a cartographer to truly capture, and this map is more of a snapshot of the major powers at one specific point in time.
>>
>>94849381
That explains why Mordheim uses wyrdstone instead of warpstone. They wanted it to be green so they just made their own thing which was eventually folded back into warpstone.

Vlad turned every noble who sided with him into a vampire. Not all of them will be powerful and influential like Konrad and Mannfred though. Some might raise armies of the undead and go to war (although not on the scale of the vampire wars), but some will just be pale and spend all their time indoors.

Disconnect from reality. If you can't tladd a sentence of flavour text to bring the rule to life, we might as well be playing chess.
Top offender here is the AoS/40K Command Points nonsense. "Your Dire Avengers over here can't fire really fast this turn, because the Wave Serpent on the other side of the battlefield rerolled its save so you have no points left." It just saps the game of its wargames feeling.

All this shit about Elves is getting daft, especially because both
>Elves are just hot humans!
and
>Elves are horrifying Ayyys with chins you could open tins of beans with!
sides are wrong.

Actually, Elves are fashion models. Think about it. Thin, waifish, faintly androgynous(not to a fetish degree or anything, just the point where the women are more handsome than pretty and the men are more pretty than handsome, in relation to idealized humans), with features that *can* be beautiful but often in a slightly odd way - striking, pronounced, symmetrical.

There are "people we know" in the border princes, there have always been "people we know" in the border princes.

The border princes is a chaotic region populated by countless petty kingdoms, estates and fortresses and ruled by all sorts of minor nobles. Making it good for /yourguys/, this does not mean that its some unknown fucking void where records and established powers dont exist.

Leotpold from tamurkhan, gnashrag the black prince from 7th ed/nights dark masters. Theres even various locations we know about previously.
