Poorhammer talk about every CSM model

>Abaddon (2019)

>Lord Discordant (2019)
>"What a great model"

>Legionaries and Havocs (2019)

To REALLY sum up the issue with the terminators, they are chaos space marine terminators, they're black legion terminators.

the worst take I've heard from them is they insist you should never ever magnetize models (30 seconds drilling holes to double the value of your model is a waste) and yet everyone has no excuse to own an airbrush
>>
>>96445659
There are some things that just aren't worth magnetizing.
chaffs retard tier
sub elite is questionable
Elite elite like terminators and chosen, you probably have some justifications (although there is also shit light 8bound and crisis suits where no one can identify shit any ways so who cares)
and then you have your centerpiece models.

GW loves dual build kit that massively change the aesthetic of a model

i could turn to my lgs and say "all my exocrine count as harupsex today" and nobody would give a shit
but it way cooler to actually play with the sick ass exploding head mouth monster
there also plenty of models worth magnetizing exclusively for transport
I played a game against knights with monster mash and every time his big dudes killed something i could plug an arm or head of my model and put on the knights base as he claimed trophies, magnets are hobby kino.

setting deadlines and defining efficient paint schemes are the enemies of every pile of shame
way too many people are bogged down by indecisiveness and perfectionism, and procrastinate on painting their models for months which end up stretching into years if not decades
it's a serious plague to the community, even to people who actually like painting
the additional thing being that painting is not the only part of the hobby either

The passion for painting itself is, paradoxically, an unfortunately scarce thing in warhammer fans.

When I was a kid I was terrible at crafts, my hands were shaky and my patience low. My colorschemes were dubious at best.
So I didn't buy stuff and I sticked to reading the magazines and codices.

When I got older, I gave painting another shot, I had taken art classes in highschool since then, and I found I was much better at painting just from being older.
I didn't have much technique, but it was a night and day difference. So I allowed myself to get some kits.

If I really want to play a game I can always ask a friend and we can always use cutouts or tokens.

So I'm really confused about people who spend a lot of money on model kits they don't like interacting with, to play a game with people who apparently require you to have the models to enjoy the game.
It feels very backwards to me.

>>96445762
Me and him used to be mainly AoS guys.
We now play only Spearhead instead of the main game, and it's absolutely great.

The only downside is that you need the specific set of table and cards, it's like its own game mode, while Combat Patrol just need half a table of 40k and that's it.

>>96445765
Not sure yet.
I played Combat Patrol before but only when I had a table at different comicbook fairs, so most of my attention was into explaining the game and hobby to random people.

I know there are 6 missions on the pdf on the WarCom site, but is there more? Suggestions?

GW could technically start that business right now:
>set up a bunch of 3d printers
>use the same stl files of the models or sprues
>use differently colored resins to print said files already with multiple colors
>sell them for premium prices and produce them only on order
it would impact their normal production only if they made them too cheap, overprice this enough and it will allow them to use it to hook in the pigs who would never pick up a brush otherwise, while still selling the normal products because they're relatively cheaper and more available

>You'll sooner see them use the same tech the japs are using with their gundams
I don't agree, the differently colored parts on an average Warhammer design are way more spread out, and smaller than conveniently isolated like in gundam kits
I could see them going from bare grey plastic to a colour fitting the faction (blue for marines, purple for nids etc) like they do in some starter sets, but otherwise that sounds pretty impossible at this scale

My problem with Combat Patrol is the fixed wargear.

My people have a Combat Patrol box, but many didn't "built it right" for playing Combat Patrol.

Some people built Tormentors instead of Infractors, almost everybody have Legionaries with chainsword instead of bolters, etc.
Newcomers just randomly build what they think it's cool.

Why artificially limit it?
Just let us use everything inside the box.

Won't work for me because I like assembling, sculpting, converting and kitbashing.
Prebuilt and prepainted models would be utterly worthless for me since they would be devoid of hobbying aspect which is the only reason I care for tabletop
Prepainted but not prebuild models wouldn't change anything for me anyway due to me kitbashing everything. I just clip all bits from any sprue and then sort them into bit boxes. And then assemble whatever I need out of this. And I'm too contrarian to play posterboy factions anyway.

I will paint my models... just not today...

Is this for Reaper's Wager or Skysplinter? I'm guessing the later based on the number of transports. Venoms are very good in Skysplinter but you're missing a few key combos. You don't really need a third archon to lead just Kabalites. You'd get a lot more mileage out of Lelith and ten Wyches.

Having a stressful job with long hours, all I want from the game is to shut my brain off and just roll some dices. I don't expect to win often (as it should be - smart play should be rewarded), but I don't want to lose every time either. Local player base is mixed - there are some chill guys, waac tryhards and everyone in between (didn't play 40k with them - just observed their 40k games and played boardgames with most of them). I'm not gonna argue over everything even with tryhards anyway - if someone wants to shoot at a corner of the flag on the model - fuck if I care.
So, my question is - what is the most chill, brain-dead to play army composition or detachment that wouldn't also lose 7 games out of 10?

I don't mean I play with a graytide army, I abhor the idea but painting takes a lot of time and while I know it's a skill you develop over time I paint let's say at a 4/10 at most. So spending a lot of time on a thing that's subpar at best barely gets me any gratification and acts as barrier to actually play the game. This my 80th something model that I painted and there's definitely an improvement from the last year compared to my first ones.
I just need to keep painting and painting but yeah, I could be painting right now but I don't.

Try this
1 venom to split Kabs
5 Kabs with Archon and Special weapons
5 Kabs in the venom doing objectives
Cut the second squad and one Venom entirely. This is 165 points saved, which gives you room for an Incubi to go in a venom and then spend 80 points on some bikes or a talos or a cronos

Alternatively, you can cut 1 archon and squad of Kabs for Lelith and some Wyches.

4th gen are technically quite human so the red flesh of Behemoth should be very subtle. Use black carapace on the carapace bits and apply some heavily thinned down red wash on the fleshy bits once you paint the skin normally. Increase the strength as you're closer to the Patriarch generation wise.
Is it a dual action airbrush? When you press down only air should come out, and paint when you pull it back.

Here is the text from an older codex:

>Following a five year Crusade of penitence to atone for his defeat, Helbrecht made a pilgrimage to the Phalanx to pray at the hand of Rogal Dorn. There, the Chapter Master came to realize that the loss of his hand was symbolic of his Primarch's sacrifice and a sign from the Emperor. Helbrecht faith returned to him.

>Helbrecht, aboard his Battle Barge Sigismund, later sought revenge for his humiliation by attacking Imotekh's Tomb Ship Inevitable Conqueror while in route to Davatas. Boarding Torpedo attacks by the Black Templars succeeded in capturing the ship and Helbrecht and the Stormlord come to blows once more, but this time the Marshal is able to use his rekindled faith to prevail. Realizing the battle is lost, Imotekh teleports to a nearby escort vessel to safety, but not before congratulating Helbrecht on 'one victory apiece'. In a rage that his enemy had escaped, Helbrecht destroyed the Inevitable Conqueror from the inside out.

What did Imotekh mean by "one victory apiece"?

Both nids and necrons have building/reactivating their respective infrastructures as extremely important parts of their factions, and in both cases this can happen arbitrarily fast and is linked to their own flow of troops and types of troops, you don't have many other instances where the gameplay requirements match the presentation without much compromises or extra justifications.

And the two factions are quite the pair of antithetical themes to each other alone too.

>>
>>96446232
Because most people only care about the basic factions.
Even when kids were modular most people still flocked to characters and built models as the box/instruction booklet showed.

If you only care about growing that profit you cut corners and triple down of what's already selling.

One thing I have to begrudgingly give GW is that they did manage to lower lethality. I was talking with my friends the other day about how very often you'll do something like put a unit projecting threat and another holding an objective both in LoS so the opponent has to deal and choose which one to deal with, while in 9e I vividly remember that everything that was in LoS would die no questions asked.
>>
>>96446232
Nobody gives a fuck about subfactions for any faction that isn't Marines. Making upgrades for non-Marine factions is a negative on GW's profits, as they aren't going to sell nearly enough to make up for the cost of the plastic.

No, because when an infantry kit already costs 35£ and an upgrade sprue costs 20£, nobody is going to bother with the upgrade sprue, let alone from gw.
>>
>>96446273
>sell nearly enough to make up for the cost of the plastic
I dunno man. I think there may be some laziness on GW's part. You look at other manufactures like Wargames Atlantic and Victrix that are putting out a lot of stuff in hard plastic and it makes one wonder.

Didn't have time to reply in the old thread, apologies. The wings were actually fairly simple to do. I airbrushed the gradient from dark turquoise to purple, washed the turquoise part with black and the purple part with, well, purple. Afterwards it was just drybrushing with increasingly brighter turquoises and purples, the brightest parts are AKs pastel violet, I really like that paint. Also hamelessly reposting becuase I'm rather happy with the result.

I dont know if you're including chaos marines in your statement but its a stupid thing to argue that nobody gives a fuck about subfactions for any faction that isn't marine when guard have had multiple unique lines for their subfactions since like 2nd edition. and also the fact that current guard range is also made up of units from different subfactions.
but thats the problem with discussion here, idiots and morons want to make declaritive blanket statements instead of having a modicum of nuance in anything they say.

Yes, if the situation was handled better chaos marines would be roughly matched by primaris enhancements in both sizes and power
It's just that gw has economic interests in funnelling the newcomers more towards loyalists than towards chaos marines so they make the loyalists bigger and more powerful than the bad guys
You can tell it's intentional because they did the same exact stuff in aos too with sigmarines and chaos warriors, basic sigmarines are consistently bigger than basic chaos warriors and this difference has been put in place when gw had absolutely no preexisting status quo or height standard to adhere to with their new whole new setting and factions
They know kids see bigger, think better and fall for the money trap that is starting marines/sigmarines

How the fuck can GW keep getting away with such regular price hikes?
It's infuriating, the meme was that you get addicted to this shit and buy a lot of stuff, not that making a single army is a fucking huge expense.

There’s probably better deals from 28mm historical plastic model makers but it make you wonder how shaken the miniature market would be if gw priced their models to compete with historicals.
>>
>>96446888
Nintendo and other Game devs do this too. They try to only raise US prices as a last resort because US consumers are super sensitive to price rises. AAA games in the UK and EU were sent right up even before Nintendo made their move - games were 80 euros/£70 before the US move. They only increased US prices as the last resort.
GW is doing the same here- raising prices for everyone to subsidize the US

seriousness or wackyness isn't the issue, nor it's grimdark or the opposite

it's that they aren't bold enough with the designs and missed almost any low hanging fruit:
they're dwarfs but have no big beards and the runes are either absent or in a small window
they can be fucked up clones with weird growths but that's barely present in two bits
they've got robots but all they do is make them look like normal dudes with minor cybernetics
they've got a big land fortress to tow carriages and carry big guns but have neither
they've got a near futuristic astronaut theme but no spacewalkers, shuttles or rover/satellite drones
they've got a mining theme but no heavy duty strip mining or digging machinery beyond art
they're technically daot humans but all they have is the same stuff the empire has with a different casing

but more importantly for a new faction THE CODEXES ARE FUCKING EMPTY, there's barely any information, where the fuck is one simple goddamn timeline of random shit and trivia about their history and society thrown at the wall to spark imagination and connect this faction with the others and the other events of the galaxy? there's no excuse for this, they have been cooking these since covid and they're still undercooked

everything with a rune looks like some space wolf rip-off, the men of iron aesthetic is done elsewhere, all their equipment is bolters and volkite and other imperium stuff, you could drop any of the vehicles in GSC and it would fit right in with the range, most of the head sculpts play it tame and dont have big ass beards or slayer mohawks. its all very tepid and imperial coded, none of it feels uniquely dwarfy or outlandish.

its been said a thousand times over but necromunda squats did it much better

>‘Xagor!’ Bellathonis yelled as he ducked for cover. ‘Get down!’
>A soundless impact rippled through the tunnel as several of the advancing mandrakes were instantaneously wiped from existence. Where they had been a perfectly spherical bite had appeared in the wall and floor, the material displaced out of the reality of Commorragh and sent… elsewhere.
>Bellathonis recognised it as the distinctive strike of a distortion weapon – a rare type in Commorragh but one with a dire reputation. Heedless, the surviving mandrakes surged forwards to come to grips
with their assailants and quickly found themselves outmatched.
>Bellathonis watched in fascination as a pair of Castigators advanced to meet the mandrakes’ rush.
>He could see at once that they were not purely machines like the Talos pain-engines, but rather housings for a living consciousness. The Castigators’ monomolecular claws pierced the pitch-black mandrakes like lightning bolts while the mandrakes’ own saws and sickles glanced from impervious metal. One of the war machines fired its distortion whip at point-blank range, a brief twist in reality pinching out its enemies so thoroughly that it was as if they had never existed at all. The other Castigator appeared to favour its claw-like blades more and sliced the last mandrake apart with the fluid grace of a knife-limbed dancer.
>Xagor was already disappearing from sight back along the tunnel. Bellathonis realised the nightfiend was still lurking nearby, apparently too worldly-wise to charge forwards and share his minions’ fate. The grotesques were milling around in confusion making big, attractive targets.
>Bellathonis agonised for a second and then ordered the lumbering flesh-puppets to attack. If they were going to be destroyed they might as well do some good by buying him some time.
>‘Now we go back and tell Xhakoruakh!’ Bellathonis hissed angrily to the nightfiend.
>The nightfiend nodded rapidly in response

That's not one of valrak's contact, that's just one dude that's been spamming his discord with this stuff from reddit.

His actual contacts don't back up this shit, only that they're getting an archon with this edition, and some models in the next edition.
And that their incoming combat patrol is 2 pain engines, a hemunculus and one unit of wracks.

You can tell it's an out of touch wishlist because it mentions stuff only a diehard deldar fag knows or cares about and focuses on matching the size of nids and necron ranges despite everyone knowing full well those factions are factions that got those waves because they were in a starter set and dark eldar are NOT going to be in a starter set.
>>
>>96446888
Massive new US taxes mean lost sales, and margins are dependent on total volumes being sold. You either have to make up those lost sales elsewhere, or increase price to maintain margins.

>Hold onto a card
Let's say you draw Assassinate on your turn. You charge and fight a character but leave him on one wound. You're pretty sure you'll be able to kill him on your opponent's next turn (and score the points), so you hold onto the card. The more you play the better your intuition on those situations will be.
>Turn 1 draws
Have fast cheap units and deploy them so they can score certain cards (area denial, establish locus, cleanse, etc) if you draw them turn 1.
>Also
Keep track of which cards you and your opponent have already drawn to anticipate what you're likely to draw later
>>
>>96447204
My biggest reference for this is Japan and their vending machines. Even at the airport they were cheap as shit. I never buy anything at the airport, except in Japan, where it's only tiny bit more expensive.
>>
>>96447243
No
dark eldar don't need, let alone deserve this
they'll get the archon now, malys during the campaign books, maybe another kill team that updates either beasts or the court, and then the last 2 resin units next edition and that will be it for the future
>>
>>96447204
The majority of gw's sales are to people who buy whatever the price, and they have no competition. It's an archetypal business with a moat, as Warren Buffet would say.

In my opinion, you guys are retarded. Real shamans don't carry around a wizard hat and staff. They might have a few trinkets that are specific to a shaman in their culture but otherwise they are just well respected members of their societies. In the native american cultures that inspired the kroot headdress both shamans and chiefs wore similar clothing. You are just pedantic and want some flanderized retarded detail that doesnt actually exist.

The flesh shaper literally has bones, red sashes and hooks to symbolize his role. It's obvious these things have spiritual significance, but instead you want to winge about something that isn't even a problem.

Oh, and fun fact, you don't actually own any Kroot and would absolutely under no circumstances ever buy any.
>>
>>96447706
Yes, that's what I meant. It's meant to be an alien version of the native chiefs and shamans of north america. It's very obvious, just like Ultramarines are space romans and white scars are space mongols.
>>
>>96447711

type in shaman in gw's own store, or research about shamans in many fantasy settings, and this is what you get, wizards from somewhat primitive/crude cultures recognisable as such by magical implements, elaborate garbs and generally a separation from the martial sphere of design elements, which is why they're often made visibly old and withered or looking very impractical.

Do I really have to teach you about basic design elements and the modern perceptions of them?
Or are you venting some other kind of frustration from your life towards a dude that wondered why they didn't make a wizard-looking kroot?

Hell, the other shaper with the fancier rifle isn't even that far from what I was thinking, but it's still quite too plain and more associated first with pathfinding than mysticism.
