If Lichess is so "great" compared to chess.com then how come they only have like 5 variants?
>>
>>96628134
I asked for more of them and the developers always say something about not clogging the code with unnecessary stuff. That's also why PyChess is basically an extension of Lichess (you can log in automatically once you have a Lichess account).

Chess noob here.
I'm trying Chessable and doing the "Beginner Starter Kit" course.
I'm at "Puzzle: Trapping the King in the Center #4" and my autism sense is tingling.

So. Black to move. We want to prevent White from castling. That's the goal of the lesson.
CM Can Kabadayi's solution? ...Ba3
Which doesn't prevent White from castling at all.

Yeah sure White will lose a Bishop, big deal.
But no, that's not what's going to happen according to Kabadayi.
According to him, White's response won't be to castle but Bxa3, taking Black's bishop all the while allowing Black to follow it up with Qxc3 and wreck shit.

I feel like assuming your opponent will misplay is one dumb way to teach people how to play.
I'm not saying ...Ba3 is a bad move, but it won't allow you to stop your opponent from castling, which is the theme of this lesson.

I dunno, I just find this annoying. Especially when the CM mentions the possibility of White castling anyway but dismisses it by saying "The move O-O safeguards the white king but for a huge cost: White loses the bishop ...xb2-+."
Because losing the game is a better alternative, it seems.

HE WILL

yeah thats kinda weird, if i've calculated correctly white is just checkmated if they take a3.

1... Ba3 2. Bxa3 Qxc3+ 3. Kf1 Qxa1+ 4. Bc1 Qxc1# {or, 4...Rd1#}
1...Ba3 2. Bc1 Qxc3+ 3. Kf1 Rd1# {or, 3. Bd2 Qxd2+ 4. Kf1 Qd1+ 5. Rxd1 Rxd1#} {or, 3. Bd2 Qxa1+ 4. Bc1 Qxc1#}
i checked the engine afterwards to make sure I'm not misleading you, and its #-3 after Bxa3.
>>
>>96629454
winning the bishop wins the game so i don't see the problem
>>
>>96629918
Yeah I was a bit dumbfounded.
Definitely didn't make me want to check this guy's other courses. I'm only doing this one because it came "bundled" with my free account anyway.
Then I'll do the ones suggested by Plebbit.
>>96629999
Checked.
The problem is that this lesson is supposed to teach you how to prevent your opponent from castling. It doesn't do that and just assumes White will do something dumb instead.
Taking Black's bishop is a death sentence for White. It's stupid. Just castle.
>>
>>96630048
Can anyone tell me what "Checked." means? I used to think it was an indirect way to say "saged' but that doesn't make any sense.

He noticed the nice digits in the post number. Forget it, it's an obsolete behaviour according to the Ultimate 4-chan Code of Conduct.

We are not GMs, and our opponents aren't that good either. It's fair to expect blunders everywhere.

Maurice+Cristian and only two games to comment doesn't sound interesting enough. With all that money on the table they should have 8 players at least.

Their choice of variants is also questionable. Horde in particular is terrible. Antichess is solved. I'd add Duck Chess, it doesn't seem complicated to implement.

He won with queen odds while in blindfold mode where he couldn't see the pieces but only the list of moves.
