Getting captured by Sisters of Sn-Snu means being their breeding slaves forever,. If you're exceptionally liked, you will be given rejuvenate treatments so you won't die of old age for a long time. Truly horrific.

Name one marine that has died of old age. Name one that has meaningfully aged at all for that matter. And no, white hair is not "meaningfully aged". Nothing like in the old days where their bodies broke down and they'd be relegated to support staff and grafted to tank treads.

>Chaos

The other 3 chaos factions doing their things to people is obvious but you never hear what the Tzeentch followers do on the daily.

Obviously trying to scour books, relics, and plumbing the depths of the warp for secrets is obvious but you never really see or hear what sorts of horrors they inflict on hapless innocents for shits and giggles even though it's obvious they probably do as much as anyone else.
>>
>>96678815
That's one more than any numarine that has aged at all.
>>
>>96678786
Dante is an outlier among outliers. Marneus Calgar was considered a big deal for living for a mere 400 years, among the oldest of all Astartes currently alive and not tucked into a Dreadnought for nappy times. Surviving just 20 years as an Ultramarine earns you your first silver service stud. If you last 50 years, even if you never accomplish anything particularly noteworthy, you get your first gold stud. Service studs in general are a sign that an Astartes is an exceptionally tough badass who has survived a very impressive span of time for an Astartes. The average life expectancy of an Astartes is probably like 20-30 years after completing their training. That's already incredibly impressive considering that's 20-30 years of nonstop war against nightmares beyond human comprehension they're thrown into.
>>
>>96678832
I accept your concession
>>
>>96678800
I meant more like the Eldar refresh in terms of timing, kind of early-to-mid of the expansion. I would love to see Dark Eldar get as many kits as the CWE did, but won't hold my breath.

>Name one marine that has died of old age.
In one novel a supremely crusty old HH-era Salamander Legionary dies the instant his super life-support throne deactivates. His organs had failed thousands of years ago from old age, and only the machinery was keeping him alive anymore.
>>
>>96678803

But hey, (you) tried

An unavoidable fact that no CSM Chaos Lord can ever escape; the WHFB/AoS Chaos Lords have greater willpower than them. What I mean is that CSM would be given all this hypno-indoctrination and mental augmentations. Their fantasy setting equivalents don't have those crutches and still achieve what they achieve. They're more vulnerable yet survive and even thrive.
>>
>>96678842
If it follows the Eldar-style then it will probably get split up over two editions with ~7-9 kits in each getting refreshed. So they might do like all the Wych Cult stuff one edition and then all the Kabal stuff another edition or something

>During the Dark Age of Technology, scouts from Earth travelled far through the galaxy seeking planets to be used as agricultural worlds to provide food for the huge hiveworlds of Humanity. They copied the culture and farming techniques used by the Eldar Knights already living on some of the worlds discovered. in a period referred to by the Exodites as The Coming of Men, the Eldar and Human colonists clashed in a series of bloody wars as the Eldar Knights sought to protect their homes from the interlopers.

> When these planets were cutoff in the Age of Strife, they became feral worlds. A warrior aristocracy grew up on the human worlds, mimicking the lifestyle of the Eldar clans. On many worlds, the Eldar clans resurged to win back the lands they had lost and settled into a pattern of battling, raiding, and sometimes allying and trading with each other and the Humans.

So from the White Dwarf excerpt, exodite and human relationships didn't seem all that bad until the rise of the Imperium. They basically treated each other as rival nations do rather than the

I'm now conflicted, because although that mold slip on the exarchs faces is bad I think I could do something about it and I generally like the whole kit as it is.

However I wouldn't mind having an updated version either but that could be a question of when that would even happen considering GWs track record.

Precisely. The ONLY thing the Imperium was designed to be good at was maintaining internal control, which it has done fantastically by largely avoiding any balkanization over the course of over 10,000 years. But to do that, they had to make everything else shitty. Inter-departmental rivalries that often involve straight up warfare between each other, a Japan-tier rivalry between their army and their navy, Space Marines being split up into tiny chapters of 1,000 marines and then being given complete autonomy, the Church having its own army and likewise also having autonomy, and the Inquisition on top of all that having autonomy as well. At any given time, 90% of the Imperium's efforts are probably directed towards fighting itself.

And then you get into their infrastructure. Forge Worlds and Hive Worlds are, needless to say, not efficient ways of doing things. Self-reliant planets that supply their own food, industry, and resources are the ideal way to set things up for efficiency, but that would empower secession movements, since it would de-couple those planets from their reliance on Imperium supply lines. Likewise, putting so much technology in the hands of the Mechanicus, while also banning AI for reasons that nobody even knows why anymore, is shooting themselves in the kneecaps, but it keeps the technology primitive and rare enough that the Imperium can be picky about who gets the good stuff.

The Imperium can never, ever loosen their grip or become a better place to live, for the same reasons North Korea can't. If you're a nightmare dystopia and you make things ever so slightly better, that just empowers the people to overthrow you.

Also that's a bust, it's much larger than a 28mm mini, the bust painters always mog the mini painters because they have more room to do insane stuff and are working with larger flatter surfaces. They get so much practice doing big blends that it's almost a different hobby in the way they approach a project

The governors 'autonomy' is largely a fiction, they have basically no rights to their planets and at any time they can be replaced at the whims of the Imperium.

Now, yes, it is true that the Imperium largely doesn't give a shit how the governors rule their planets so long as there's no heresy and the tithes arrive on time, but for all intents and purposes this is just the Imperium throwing up their hands and saying "We don't care how you have to brutalize your citizens to extract as much tithe as you can, just do it."

Exploration of Corsair culture vs the other Aeldari subcultures.
The Leagues of Votann make an appearance. They created a multi-racial trading outpost in a titanic void whale corpse that they were harvesting. The Corsairs try the Kin ale to comedic results.

There is a mention of demon stars at the edge of the Great Rift with tentacles of plasma reaching out to planets.

That's Infantryman's Uplifting Primer propaganda. In reality an Aeldari with no armor or special equipment, like a Wych, can bend steel with their bare hands and go on marathon killing sprees for hours in the arena without shedding a single drop of sweat. >>
>>96679440
Exodites are mentioned a lot in the novel, mainly as a contrast between them and others.

>They had joined the Starsplinters from an Exodite planet– as demonstrated by the feathers and scrimshaw that somewhat anachronistically adorned their void suit– after Ellisar’s crew had killed a drukhari slaver force preying on their world. Some Exodites received protection from craftworlds, but there was often tension between them and the followers of Asuryan. The craftworlders saw the Exodites as rustic and unsophisticated, and the warrior clans in their turn tended to view their spacefaring cousins as pretentious and condescending, and still far too close to the lifestyles that had led to the Fall. No corsair was likely to take their captain’s death well, barring the existence of a personal grudge, but Skyhand had owed Ellisar Elasandor a personal debt.

Contrast paints don't really do anything over a black undercoat. They're translucent so they show the colour underneath. You need to use them over a bight basecoat for them to work as intended.
>>
>>96679592
You usually want to use contrasts over a bright undercoat like grey/ivory/white, the color is very transparent

Nta but I bought a resin leviathan when the mould was brand new, and a chap dread on the absolute last run and it was like two different experiences. The chaplain had some really weird mould defects, like the shoulder sockets were ovals instead of being round, had weird pitting and bubbles, and had literal chunks of the pink silicone mould stuck in the sculpt that i had to dig out with dental tools. The leviathan was perfect, no warping, no pitting or bubbles, super smooth. I think it's very mould dependant

I wish Daemons hadn't been so fucked this edition.
I finished playing Clair Obscur and had the idea for a warband with sorcerers that paint daemons to summon them and the possessed of the warband are marines that got too into the painting.
Guess I could do it without daemons.

And besides, the thing that separates the Tau from the Imperium isn't that they don't have big stuff, it's that all of their big tech is understood and can be mass produced. The Imperium's big tech tends to be ancient artifacts, the Tau's are just one of countless more produced out of an assembly line.

yea but effectively they still struggle because the amount of relic warmachines the imperium has is still more than all of the Taus stuff mass produced together.

And most of the super powerful ancient stuff does still get new material, just slowly for the size of the imperium. They are able to make new titans and new warships.

Harlequins cant be their own entire army anymore. They usually bring some craftworld stuff to fill the gaps in their roster. Also Reapers Wager is half or more drukhari.

Oh yes without a doubt the Imperium definitely has more equipment than the Tau, they just also have way more territory to defend with it and proportionately their productive capacity is way lower per-planet.

The Imperium might have 50,000 Titans for example, but their actual productive capacity for producing more Titans is too low to keep up with demand and they tend to slowly lose more than they can make. Additionally, the only places that can produce Titans are Forge Worlds, which the Imperium won't be many producing more of anytime soon, and Forge Worlds are listed as being in the mere "hundreds", meaning out of a million worlds only .1% at most can realistically produce Titans.

The Tau are small, the amount of worlds they have can be measured in the mere thousands at most, and they probably only have several hundred in truth, but every world is far more productive than Imperium worlds.

Essentially, the Imperium is like an empire that chose to play incredibly wide. By sheer raw material they certainly outpace the Tau and they have way more planets and population. But all those planets need to be protected, while the Tau are playing 'tall' and thus much denser. If the Imperium wanted to take out the Tau, it would have to commit an enormous amount of resources to the effort which would result in the loss of massive swathes of territory elsewhere in exchange for little gain.
>>
>>96680287
>>96680277
I said gaps in their army not PV. They lack stuff like cheap scouts/infiltrators, heavy tanks, objective sitters. Everything is so expensive and elite you probably want stuff like rangers, falcons, warlocks, wraithguard/wraithlords. All that stuff is very good in ghosts of the webway.
>>
>>96680172
This one is pretty cool. Wish there were a mini like that
>>
>>96680229
What's the point of having multiple arms if you don't have multiple tits to play with?
>>
>>96680288
I agree totally with the wide/tall comparison, but the Tau also even on their peak production worlds arent touching Imperium peak production worlds because they are way higher up the tech tree. Tau survived the Imperial invasion through a combination of being lucky to be far enough away via warp travel at the same time as the tyranid invasion happening. That Tau absolutely can win battles but the Imperium is so vast and I think GW has done a good job of justifying their expansion and victories/defeats in setting.

>but the Tau also even on their peak production worlds arent touching Imperium peak production worlds because they are way higher up the tech tree.
This is where I strongly disagree.

The Imperium's military tech, at its peak, can be higher than the Tau...

...but their civilian tech is WAY lower. Like, they don't even have basic automation. They use galley slaves to load cannons via ropes. Forge worlds have people working by hand on an assembly line while Tau worlds are largely post-automation planets where your typical Earth caste worker is really more of an engineer or a foreman for a whole factory's worth of drone-workers.

The Imperium is basically what happens when you rush military tech but ignore all the other technology and now you have an advanced weapon that you don't have the industrial base to actually produce in sufficient numbers.
>>
>>96680319

>Imperial factories for example cannot replace the cruical parts that get eroded with use. Even the high ranking Admech don't know how to replace them.
you shouldnt be calling people a lorelet if you think the Imperium isnt making new titans and warships. The Battlefleet Gothic rulebook as tons of warships that were invented M35-M42
>>
>>96680360
Battlefield Gothic is not a canon source anymore. As per the Admech codexes, the Admech cannot invent or innovate.

Titan production takes ages to create. Comparing their production to the Tau, churning out thousands of basic suits that can destroy titans yearly is retarded.

I wouldn't say it's 100% either or. The Imperium is kinda like Russia. They *can* produce advanced modern stuff, but only in very small numbers such that they're afraid to actually use them for fear of losing them. They're much better at pulling out outdated old stuff out of warehouses and finding parts for them to work, but this stuff is old and tends not to hold up on a modern battlefield.

Pretty much.

The situation isn't looking good for the Imperium of course (having a mostly static supply of resources and technology while all of your enemies continue to grow in strength is hardly good in the long-term).

But the real strength of the Imperium isn't their equipment, or their manpower, or anything else like that...

It's the amount of planets they have.

The Imperium could lose 1 planet every day (and they probably are now desu) and they would still survive for the next 2,700 years.
>>
>>96680423
As per the lore, due to the decline of knowledge and production capacity, the Imperial technology they produce from the STC is not at the same quality as the technology at the DAoT.

They are cutting corners and using substandard materials.
