Is Master's Brush Cleaner and Preserver actually a good product or is there a better brush cleaning/preserving product out there worth mentioning?

I finished some suits I built a while ago to play around with. Mostly I just tried inverting my color scheme for the green ones and for the third I wanted to see what a single color scheme would look like since I'm gonna try it out on my stealth suits.
I also wanted to try making my savannah basing more interesting. I didn't put down any sand or pebbles before priming. I think I need to do patches of that along with the increased grass weeds and bushes. I'm gonna apply some on the next models to be primed tomorrow.

Is Santa anon organizing a WIP SS this year?
>>
>>96690326
Mr Hobby stuff is mostly lacquer, it needs strong shit to clean. Similar how Tamiya "airbrush cleaner" is actually further thinned down their own cement and people successfully used it as glue replacement. Imagine using fucking solvent glue to clean your airbrush from residual paint, no wonder their users don't like "cheap" airbrushes that use rubber seals.
>>
>>96690326
Tamiyas airbrush cleaner has a disclaimer on the bottle that it's not recommended for cleaning bristle brushes.
>>96690344
It's actually almost the exact same shit as the cleaner, iirc there's like a 1 or 2% difference in the proportions. I don't think on or the other is thinner. And yeah, acetone can damage rubber.
>>
>>96690344
i use ipa to clean mrsurfacer and works fine, but i'm wary of acetone for brushes, for the airbush is okayish

>Similar how Tamiya "airbrush cleaner" is actually further thinned down their own cement
it's not even thinned down, is just 1% different to be able to market it as a different product

I can tell by the smell. I think mostly for the synthtic brushes that modelists are using with solvent-based paints. So they don't care about the brush that much. Well, I can check on GC-MS in the lab, kek.

the airbrush isn't made of plastic so what's the big deal? I use acetone to clean up certain types of plastic too. I wouldn't soak them in it but things like glass filled nylon holds up fine to just being wiped off.

Seals and other elements made from gum won't take well either those strong solvents or their fumes. Even "gentle" airbrush cleaning solutions are not advised to be used frequently. Expensive models use teflon seals, which are more resistant but still.

>>
>>96690344
It's the exact same formulation. They just can't legally sell the exact same product as a different thing for a different price. Check the MSDS, it's literally a 1% difference, which can be considered a rounding error if anybody asks. You can buy a huge bottle of it for peanuts compared to the same volume of "bespoke" plastic cement. I did and it works completely the same, anybody saying otherwise was treating it differently than they would with "regular" glue. If you can't get past the dissonance, just use it to refill a Tamiya bottle so you have the nice applicator brush.
>>
>>96692745
idk what kind of seals his iwata had but the guy I used to work with had a 5 gallon drum of acetone under his bench and was always soaking shit in it. if you're using solvent based paint you obviously need solvents to clean it.
>>
>>96692745
>teflon seals, which are more resistant
That's an understatement, teflon was discovered as a residue from attempting to bottle a particular chemical solution and while attempting to dispose of the resiude it proved to be indestrutible, so when the military started refining uranium and had a huge problem replacing pipes and seals all the time the company with the indestructible residue was all like "Hey, we got this shit we can't destroy and we've just been stockpiling it, maybe we can try that?" and then teflon entered the market because seals and liners made of teflon stood up to refining motherfucking uranium.

If you do this, you need to pin the model to the base with some thin wire (i use paper clips) or the mini is essentially only glued to the layer of paint on the base rather than the base itself
It usually makes for a better look to do the base first but both work.
You just have to make sure you dont drill all the way through the foot of a mini when putting the pin in like I sometimes do, you can kinda see it on the second mini from the left.
>>

I would fucking never sign up for a /40kg/ SS. I could not hold more contempt for the people in that general, and have zero trust for them. The person running it is probably a fed, and the people who have signed up are probably doing it specifically to send /k/ brownies or something like that.

Depends entirely on the model, what with base-toppers and tactical rocks bein' da "in fing" deze days. I'm much happier with my Apothecary's than I am with the model itself. As you can see here, I'm painting them separately and plan to glue them together and touch up at the end.

Yes, he really is that stupid blue-ish colour. Next Apothecary I paint I will try a different method.
