So wait, darkoath is a sequel to the dawnbringer books? Does anyone mind sharing those? Bit odd to start a book off with no forewarning that its a continuation of something else. I mean I like the idea, but it should be tied off of something like that new warhammer animation.

>>

AoS is dying because 4e is terrible. Don't bother until they revert back to 3e or fix it with 5e. I am being sincere.
>>
>>96811237
>>96811283
Yeah, i want to know too. In the last thread someone say november 5th, where do you find that information? at what time?
>>
>>96811356
from what I understand, the skaven box has a bunch of shit already in the spearhead and skaventide boxes, which you can get cheaper. The soulblight box is good if you want Vhordrai, otherwise the troll box is the only really good one. Sylvaneth is kind of shit because while it's probably going to be a decent discount for dryads, they're the ugliest unit by far in the range and they're not even particularly useful in an army so you aren't likely to take them even if your metafagging. I don't have any gloomspite stuff but I'm really tempted to just buy two troll boxes and run a troll army.
>>
>>96810855
I hope they have some actually interesting minis besides the 4 dickheads. I know the knight has some CoS filigree on his armor or whatever but it REALLY feels like this was supposed to be a fantasy box and they changed it to AoS last minute. They could have had some more out there picks but no, day 1 DnD campaign ass characters
>>
>>96811520
>REALLY feels like this was supposed to be a fantasy box and they changed it to AoS last minute.
I am convinced this is what happend. Look at that box art. That's 100% fantasy and not AoS.
>>

>I know the knight has some CoS filigree on his armor or whatever but it REALLY feels like this was supposed to be a fantasy box and they changed it to AoS last minute.
Yeah I had the same feeling back when cursed city dropped, NO FUCKING way was that supposed to be an aos box, it was riddled with fantasy asthetics
>>
I think they are trying to say with this box that there are things of the old world that still exist.

yeah, and the battle force is going to cost like 180-200 bucks, so just get multiple skaven tides, or skaven tide plus the missing shit and save some money. The troll box is actually pretty good because two give you a full 2k army and there's no combo boxes for trolls otherwise

I know you're just memeing but I unironically think this is true, I've tried pretty hard to get new players into AoS at all my local LGS's and they always fizzle out immediately once they discover the whole double turn, mandatory wizard + manifestations meta. I know you can play around them once you learn the game but that doesn't mean shit to a new player, literally no one is ever going to go "wow I got shit stomped into the ground, I guess I should take my time to learn, pay for all these extra manifestation models and lose a few more games until I get it!". It's genuinely terrible since all that's left is tourneyfags in my local scene and I really just want to play narrative games without all the netlist horseshit. This is why Spearhead was so popular because it has none of this shit.
>>
>>96812098
I don't think he is memeing. 4th killed the (already kind of underwhelming) AoS scene at my LGS too.
>>
>>96812098
That shit has been in the game forever, even during the absolute height of 2nd edition it was dominated by wizards and endless spells and has always had the double turn, and the double turn has always been a noob filter

None of this is remotely new

>>
>>96812120
yeah, it's a long-standing problem with aos.
>>
My LGS had a tournament every 2 months (40k dominated scene) during 3e. They haven't ran a tournament in more than 6 months because they got 2-4 signups for the previous 4e ones. I still have some friends I play with but my local scene is withering.

>>
>>96812401
TGA, might be bullshit but that probably means we aren't ever getting Beasts back despite the teaser. It would make sense considering the new named Beastman character for ToW is a shaman called Kralmaw and his whole story thing is that he is searching for the reincarnation of Morghur. Probably to build to his eventual discovery and being the face of beasts in ToW.That last bit is speculation but the story is pretty damning

That is essentially how the new chaos dwarfs society works.

>The Dread Abyssals, known also as the Hounds of Usirian, are amongst the most legendary creatures within the Underworld. The priests of ancient Nehekhara taught that upon death, the soul travelled to the Underworld -- the fabled Realm of Souls.

>After passing through the nether kingdom's gates, the souls of the dead were separated according to their worthiness in life. Those the Nehekharan gods deemed to have lived a laudable existence entered a golden paradise, while the cursed or wretched were instead cast to the dreadful lower depths, to be hunted and devoured by the Hounds of Usirian.

>When the Great Necromancer Nagash reduced Nehekhara to a dead realm, the souls entering the Realm of Souls slowed to a trickle, then stopped entirely. For centuries, the Dread Abyssals paced their empty realm like caged beasts, craving new souls to feast upon. Driven mad by hunger, they clawed at their bounds. At last, as the power of Usirian, the god of the Underworld, waned from lack of worship, powerful necromancers were able to pierce the Realm of Souls' bounds, and lure the Dread Abyssals forth to serve as their steeds.

>Ashigaroth, Gorger Upon the Meek
According to Nehekharan mythology, there were hundreds -- perhaps thousands -- of Dread Abyssals, each one commanded by Usirian to hunt a specific form of sinner. That which the Vampire Lord Mannfred von Carstein rides in battle was known in Nehekharan lore as Ashigaroth, Gorger upon the Meek, for it feasted upon those too callow to raise a hand in their own defence. Now reborn as a creature of chill bone in the mortal world, Ashigaroth hunts the living as readily as it ever did the dead, galloping through the skies to follow the spirit-spoor of prey.

>Ashigaroth is a fit steed for Mannfred, who seldom voluntarily enters battle without unshakeable confidence in his ability to carry the day. Though some warriors judge themselves by the standards of the enemies they vanquish, Mannfred is no slave to conventions of honour or glory. Ends concern him far more than means; if the choice falls between slaughtering the meek or vanquishing the mighty, he chooses slaughter.

>Of course, such choices are seldom clear cut, and Mannfred will sometimes have to conquer foes that are worthy of his talents. It matters not to Ashigaroth. Like all Dread Abyssals, the long years of soul-famine have left the creature with a hunger as indiscriminate as it is unending. Thus, should they venture across Mannfred's path, the souls of the bold and reckless join those of the weak within Ashigaroth's spectral gullet.

>Razarak, the Doom of Traitors
>The Dread Abyssal ridden by the Liche Arkhan the Black was known to myth as Razarak, the Doom of Traitors. Those of Arkhan's fellow Mortarchs steeped in Nehekharan lore have often wondered at the irony in their association, for there are few more loyal to their master than Arkhan is to Nagash. However, Neferata suspects Arkhan chose Razarak as an unspoken warning to her. The Queen of Mysteries has built an existence upon betrayal, and would doubtless form a welcome feast for a creature such as Razarak.

>Razarak's razor-sharp claws have ever been guided by more precision than those of other Dread Abyssals. In the Nehekharan Realm of Souls, as elsewhere, it was the nature of traitors to surround themselves with the innocent or the misled, and a strike guided by blind hunger would likely go astray. Though Razarak now hunts as indiscriminately as Arkhan wishes, the beast stays true to the habits of its former existence.

>Whilst other Dread Abyssals scoured the depths of the Underworld, Razarak always sought lofty perches from which to track its prey. Such behavior was well-suited to its duties, for treachery is best judged from on high. This habit too remains with the dread abyssal in its new existence, and mirrors Arkhan's own ways, for the Liche King ever strives to take a battlefield's measure from the skies, the better to ensure that no detail escapes his unblinking gaze.

>Nagadron, the Adevore
>The Dread Abyssal that the Lahmian Vampire Lord Neferata rides to war is named by Nehekharan legend as Nagadron, the Adevore. In the days before the desert realm's waning, it stalked the lower reaches of the Underworld, feasting upon the corpulent souls of gluttons. Depending on which myth is given the most credence, Nagadron was either the most patient or the most slothful of all the Dread Abyssals, forsaking the stalking of prey in favour of well-timed ambush.

>It is a hideous doom to be eaten by a Dread Abyssal -- for there is no torment that can compare to having one's very soul ingested. Yet even by these standards, it is a special agony to have one's soul devoured by Nagadron. Much as those it once feasted upon, Nagadron has no sense of its own appetite, and constantly attempts to consume far more than its gullet can contain. In its haste to let no morsel go unwasted, the beast too often gluts itself, soon after vomiting up half-eaten soul scraps which it must then devour afresh. This brief respite only makes the nightmarish suffering worse, for it allows the consumption to begin anew -- an agonising cycle of eternal damnation.

>So voracious is Nagadron that it needs little goading to feast upon other prey, and gorges itself upon Neferata's living enemies as eagerly as it did the souls of the dead. When the word of command is given, it falls upon the foe with vicious enthusiasm, half-digested flesh and soul-stuff spilling from its jaws as it attempts to cram yet another morsel into its over-packed craw

Agree. Buy into it wholeheartedly, new faces and new names doing new things rather than a glut of rememberberries. Otherwise you end up with the likes of 40K, where despite being in a dangerous job in a dangerous universe, named space marines can never fall (it was one thing at the eternal Ten Seconds To Midnight, quite another now they've time skipped ahead a century or two).
Nothing wrong with the odd knowing wink or reference (pic related) but have a bit of confidence in YOUR stuff, not interminable retreads. I thought that was one reason for AoS, to do new and different designs rather than Yet Another High Elf Spearman Mk 652.

>Come to think of it why did forsaken never make the cut to aos in the first place? Those were 8th edition models if I'm not mistaken
a question for the ages
they are even technically in the rules for tow, and very good too, but they haven't returned them there either
one possibility is that it was one of the first plastic kits reaching the pricing of 4€ per model, making it very unpopular, so perhaps they stopped selling it altogether because of the poor sales
another option is that the mould broke in some way
>>
>>96813577
yeah, but they were a goldmine of bits for conversions
the chaos spawns kit works for larger stuff, but for infantry the forsaken were better

Similar to the curseling, total warhammer 3 style chosen with exceptionally ornate armor. But with 3 arms. One slinging spells, 2 wielding great weapons, swords and shields or triple hand weapons.

Progress on my skull crusher. I’m going to black line the rest of the hard edges on rider and mount and paint the rider a darker wine-y or khorne red-esque red. I’m also going to lightly black wash the entire model like I did for the horns to tie it all in and smooth it out.

I painted the battle scars black, but how can I highlight it or make them a bit more interesting?

There's only two directions GW can realistically go with Kragnos. Either he finds his lost people (which they've dropped several hints for, including Phil Kelly talking about it post 3E) and returns leading his own army, or he's never mentioned again and just quietly disappears.

Ever.
>>
>>96814123
I've heard a lot of people say the Leadbelchers suck, but I don't really get it. So long as you take Blackpowder Fanatics as your formation, they're only slightly worse than Gluttons in melee. But they're about 8 points cheaper per model, significantly cheaper per unit (which is very useful when dealing mortal wounds on a charge), have better OC/point cost (before being modified by the glutton ability) and have the versatility of a ranged attack.
I'm not sperging here, I'm asking if there's something I'm missing being new to the game. They seem fairly balanced against the gluttons.
>>
>>96814742
how many cos armies have you seen in the first place?
>>
>>96814759
They're compared to Gluttons who are infinitely better in Melee, and Ironblasters that are better at shooting (and melee) for 60pts more.

Giving them SiC as your entire army rule is a waste of an army rule and requires them being babysat.

They're just very underwhelming for their point cost and points are at a premium in this army.
>>
>>96814820
Which formations would you say are better or worse? I can see the beastclaw raiders ones being good if you're playing them, but outside of Greedy Eaters most of them seem dogshit
>>
>>96814895
That's basically the gist of it. The Wizard one is good 'cause the spells are and giving Gluttons 73 attacks for 12 dudes is fucking hilarious.

>1+ from Slaughtermaster's ability
>+1 from spell
>12 models with 6 attacks ea, +1 from Champion keyword

Ogors basically were good like once and have been gutted since.
>>
>>96814926
Guess I'll wait and see how they end up after the apparent refresh. I like the Kharadron plenty too so I might end up playing them instead.

I'm fine with some of the old gang being there but the new guys are great, Katakros, Nighthaunt Husband and Wife, I'd say Wolf vamps but they have gotten dickall since cursed city and even then didn't get terribly much during, I'd enjoy if GW was more willing to write books and pump shit out to help flesh out these characters they dump out.

Like we got all these named characters, drop some fucking books. The only popular books I see for AOS are fucking Drekki Flynt and I don't even know if I'd say popular so much as "these are the only ones GW tries to push"
>>
>>96815163
Most of third editions books were dropped pretty much towards the end right? I think the issue with bl is that they don’t have the freedom to drop the books all Willy nilly whenever like it’s HH, and instead have to tie them in with army releases or shit like dawn bringers.

Can we just go back to dropping dozens of pulpy books like Fantasy had back in the day. I'd take a shotgun approach if it meant we could get some real gold. Random bullshit got dropped all the time and yeah sometimes it was shlock but at least it's a good way to get people into the setting.
>>
>>96815235
Aren’t you just asking for anthologies then? Plenty of that. Also it’s an issue of bl just being a closed club of like 6 authors at most of a time. 3-4 of them are almost always on space marine cock as well.
If you’re looking for something like weird tales that Howard and lovecraft were prolific in, you’re not gonna get that in the Gw space.
>>
>>96815295
>something like weird tales
Nah I'm not expecting like short form stuff like that, but what anthologies we talkin'? I've been trying to find something decent to bite into and only had a few standalones recommended to me that were fine. I will say part of me envies space marine slop because they get so much of it, but also most of it is the same crap on repeat endlessly so it's much less enticing.
>>
>>96815208
They don't do that many tie in novels to begin with, and they get released out of sync half the time anyway, that's not really the issue.

With AoS I think it's mostly just writer attrition. Like in the early days we got a ton of JKR novels because he was pumping them out but he moved on and there was an immediate drop in BL output for a while afterwards. You also had CL Werner who has to be like 120 years old at this point, Guy Haley, Andy Clark, and David Guymer hardly put anything out anymore, etc. Strachan I don't think has written anything since Temple of Silence either.

Basically the old guard of people who transitioned from writing for WHFB to AoS are mostly moved on now, and the current writers are more newish, with uneven output and quality.

Looking at recent releases the most prolific writers currently seem to be Chris Thursten, Gary Kloster, Dale Lucas, and Evan Dickens, not...the most inspiring lineup, all in all.

You don't have to play anything you don't want to man, games wax and wane in popularity. Just play what you want or hobby until AOS rules get a bit of a spitshine and things are a bit more uhhh... Palatable. 40k players went through the same cycle at the start of 10th when GW decided to do the exact same shit to them, and look at them now! They're still miserable fucks but at least they're moderately more happy with how the game plays.
>>
>>96816103
Yeah that's a great example. Back than 3e AoS was in is glory days and 10e sucked ASS. Now they got their shit together in 40k somewhat and now AoS is on the downswing due to shitty rules. They'll course correct at some point.
>>
>>96816163
That's what I figure, shit may not be ideal this exact moment but that doesn't mean it won't even out. GW just sucks at their jobs and things are delayed ages, if FEC and some of the soggy rules are anything to go by GW can make shit fun and interesting it just has to dredge it fourth from the primordial cauldron of not being a fucking moron.
>>
>>96814096

Literally AoS books sell infinitely better than WHFB novels ever did, JKR had a whole twitter thread about it back in the day. (He wrote for both, so he would know)
>>
>>96816279
Well not really ,older warhammer fantasy books are a mixed bag with outdated or lore that isn't canon anymore. Any book during storm of chaos for instance, older books like Genevieve that are just a complete fucking mixed bag, I feel like picking up an old book and saying "THIS IS PART OF OLD THING THUS IS MUST BE GOOD" feels a bit silly. I'd rather AOS have a chance to GET the same level of random bullshit and "depth" fantasy had which you won't get unless you're willing to take a chance and put some more shit out there.
>>
>>96816321
>Literally AoS books sell infinitely better than WHFB novels ever did

AoS is currently trying to shape itself to be more like 40k in terms of core rules. Most likely because of how well 40k sells/it's popularity. Simpler more gamified design appeals to newcomers more so than in depth choices. ToW and HH exist as games for GW customers that are from an older era or seek a more complex gaming experience than is offered in AoS or 40k. They serve two different purposes.

HH 3rd is terrible. They added a bunch of new stats, while leaving them the same across models. Negating the need for splitting them into multiple stats instead of just 1. At most to get +1 or -1 modifiers that make no difference in terms of gameplay. TOW on the other hand is basically just old fantasy in terms of core gameplay, with all the tactical depth that entails.
>>
>>96817420
I know this is bait but no, specialist games are the gritty ones. Look at hh vs 40k for example. Same thing with units with rules but no model, it's not really a thing in the main games, but it is in hh and tow. 40k and aos are there to get new players, who need their hands held at all times and you can't confuse with "what do you mean I have to make this model myself?!". Though sadly it seems gw is moving away from that philosophy even for non-mainline games.

I have a couple of ideas for the arms/flesh. Paint it like it's apparating out of fire like anon said. Paint it like it's burned, charred flesh like he's a burn victim. Or just regular dead flesh like a standard Night haunt.
For the skull though, I'd paint it like a regular bleached skull with fiery eye glow in the same color as your robe. Although a charred looking skull would pair really well with the burned skin suggestion.

khadgar is known for being a somewhat silly character.

also his voice actors like 75 years old, so i suspect the whole wheelchair downtime thing is them not sure if they want to continue with his character until tony kicks the bucket and kill off the character, give the character a comfy retirement in an old folks mage tower somewhere, or do an age reversal and recast him (he was magically aged prematurely)
>>

I bring news regarding the health of 4th Edition at our local... it's grim.

The police are currently investigating our local Age of Sigmar play group at my LGS after reports of inappropriate behavior and possible grooming involving minors. The group is mostly LGBTQ+ players and younger participants, but to be clear, that does not mean everyone involved is responsible for what happened.

The store has paused hosting events while the situation is being addressed. It’s an unsettling development, and it’s made me decide not to buy Skaven for AoS right now. Feels bad.

Is typhus corrosion essentially just a texture paste? Could I just thin something like a vallejo dirt paste and use that?
>>
>>96819626
not quite. its very watery, like an inkwash with grit in it almost, and the grit is very very fine, much finer than a texture paste.

not that you couldnt use a texture paste for what you want to do, but its a different thing from typhus corrosion
>>
so how come the HoH are still considered a chaos army with their new lore

My dudes are obsessed with monster collecting, and use them in arena fights. Usually, the beasts are representative of the power of a specific settlement. The warlord in charge of the area just happens to have the biggest and baddest monster. Also, they are very clear on troggs not being monsters. Now fangs, no claws, no tail, no monster.

I already put together a killaboss on a gryphcharger. and I got a few other different monsters to plan out. My big boss is going to be on a Blue Eyes. I haven't settled on a name for him yet. I want his rival to have a Red Eyes, but bamco hasn't made a kit for it yet.

imagine a wave of KBs based on gladiators. Like fancy stabbas and tridents and stuff. They can "rig" fights in their favor with pocket sand or caltrops, maybe with a leader who makes sure there's no interfering from other units. There is a bit of precedent with their love of games, fighting, and the stab-grot having a vaguely pit fighter getup with the large shoulder armor and helmet
