Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to early Dungeons & Dragons - less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about. We'll be happy to help you get started on this playstyle.

>if you were new to GMing which GM advice on running the game section you found most helpful in running games?
the last thread got to shit before I could reply so here is my two cents

if you are new to GMing generally speaking or just new to OSR style of play
>just reading the appropriate GM sections and adventuring sequence in your preferred retroclone is more than enough to get you started, simply don't bother with additional advice yet
>the no bullshit retroclones (BFRP, OSE, OSRIC whatever) do it better because you know... no bullshit, they don't drown you with unnecessary discussions and get straight to the point so you can actually start playing
OSRICS even has an example starting dungeon you can just start playing

that's it

Anybody here who likes ACKS?

I'm a bit conflicted. On one hand I really like it, I think it's an excellent game. On the other hand I find it repulsive that it has rules for slaves.

It's a horrible game. Worst game ever published. Thank you for saying this.

It does have rules for slaves, but it also assumes that only Chaotics would own slaves. Basically it's depicted as something that's evil and wrong. I personally don't see an issue with it.

Are your players into procedural gameplay, and a more 'advanced' BX without being AD&D1e?

ACKS is definitely built for autistic DM/players, but you can always just pare down or simplify things you arent comfortable with yet.

That's a bastard-soft position to have. Just because you acknowledge something exists and give people the option to use it doesn't mean you're making a moral statement in about it.

Reminder that this is a troll thread with a fake OP text. The real OP text is as follows:

>Welcome to the Adventurer Conqueror King System General, the thread dedicated to ACKS, ACKS II, and smoking fish.

You should definitely check ACKS out. I would suggest having a look at the first edition via the high seas, the second edition is xboxhueg and made more for people who are already into the game IMO. It might not end up being the game for you, but your interests are close enough that you should absolutely have a look at it.

2e is the only game that's on topic ITT besides ACKS. It's a special concession to the fact that, as Anon pointed out in the last ACKS thread, you can't complain about 2e in /osrg/ since it's off-topic there (not being an OSR game) and you can't really complain about it in /2eg/ either since that's a thread made especially for 2e enthusiasts, so it would be rude.

Fishfag (Autistic Net-Troll)

CLIMATE/TERRAIN: mom's basement /tg/
FREQUENCY: Common
ARMOR CLASS: 8 (hoodie + monitor glare)
MOVEMENT: 6, Sw 24 (only in water-cooled rigs)
HIT DICE: ½ (THAC0 20)
ORGANIZATION: Solo (samefagging)
INTELLIGENCE: Low (5–8)
ALIGNMENT: Chaotic evil
NO. APPEARING: 1 (or 1 with 20 socks)
NO. OF ATTACKS: 3 (keyboard slams) or 1 (copypasta dump)
DAMAGE/ATTACK: 1/1/1 or 1–4
SPECIAL ATTACKS: Hyperfixation Flame, Ritual Repost, Meltdown
SPECIAL DEFENSES: Claiming to be a boogeyman, /pol/tardery
MAGIC RESISTANCE: None
MORALE: Fanatic (17) until mom knocks
SIZE: M (5'4" in mismatched socks)
TREASURE: BS (Butthurt and Seethe)
XP VALUE: 15

Appearance: A pallid, scale-dusted neckbeard with LED-reflective eyes and a permanent Cheeto-orange grin. It wears a threadbare waifu hoodie two sizes too small, cargo shorts, and a trilby that says “ACKS Slayer.” Every finger is wrapped in a different anime keychain; what looks like a barbed tail is actually a knotted Ethernet cable that twitches when Wi-Fi drops a bar.

Fishfag (Autistic Net-Troll) 2/2

Combat: Fishfag treats combat like a flamewar and must follow self-imposed posting rules (Autism). It should correct grammar before attacking (OCD), but it can't (ESL).

Hyperfixation Flame: Targets one foe within 60' who uttered the words "ACKS", "Night Land", "Macris", "Dying Earth", "slavery", or "strength caps for women PCs". Victim saves vs. spell at –2 or starts laughing uncontrollably and is stunned 1 round while the fishfag pastes 47 sourced citations from 4plebs and reddit.

Ritual Repost: 3/day. The fishfag recites a 10-year-old copypasta verbatim in a 30-ft. about Macris having been banned from reddit. Everyone hearing it must save vs. breath or cringe. Must be performed in exact order or the fishfag takes 1d4 damage from ritual failure.

Meltdown: When he hears a defence of a book or game he dislikes, the fishfag enters a 1d4-hour rage: +2 to hit, –4 AC, regresses to 4th grade and starts shouting elementary school rebuttals and whining about ban evasion.

Samefagging camouflage: When identified as a single autist samefagging with a clearly recognisable posting style, starts shouting the words "BOOGEYMAN" and "ACKS HILL"

/pol/tardery: Calls everybody who disagrees with him a chud, thinking that counts as an insult on 4chan.

Habitat/Society: Lairs in his mother's basement. No life, no friends, no games.

Ecology: Feeds on (You)s.
>>
>>96910170
Suggestion: the samefag power should consist of an at-will Mirror Image, but with the images so shitty that it's obvious which one is the real fishfag.
