In your game, do you treat bows as strength- or dexterity-based weapons?
>>97223103Depends on the game.
I prefer 3.X's approach where you need Strength to use hard-hitting bows but accuracy is Dexterity based, though from an autistic rabbit-hole perspective would want to have this Strength requirement modeling mechanical energy such that it neatly covers attaching a crossbow stock and drawing mechanism to an existing bow.

>>97223103Like all weapons in my game, the quality of the weapon, the user's technique rating associated with the weapon, and her strength rating, modified by the skill used, determines effectiveness.
>puckee spamStrength requirements, Ranged skill. You don't put more strength into your draw, that's some video games bullshit. Once you hit the strength requirements to reliably draw the bow, all that's left is hitting more precise. And that's governed by hand-eye-coordination, perception and your skill with ranged weapons.

For every 2 points of Dex above 10, add 1 to your roll to hit. For every 3 points of Dex above 10, make an additional attack per attack action at a cumulative -2 penalty. For every 4 points of Dex above 10, increase the crit range of the weapon by 1.For every 2 points of Str above 10, increase the damage of the weapon by 1. For every 3 points of Str above 10, you can reroll 1 damage die per attack. For every 4 points of Str above 10, your melee attacks may cleave to another target within range and your ranged attacks gain 50% of their base range in additional range.

Once you hit the strength requirements to reliably draw the bow, all that's left is hitting more precise.Technically there's complicated strain dynamics where at the lower edge of being able to draw the bow it's difficult to not tremble and surplus leads to growing endurance. And then you get the funkiness of adjustable draw-weight bows, which include the relatively simple Penobscot type in addition to the super-complicated compound designs.
