This is a general for OSR, seperate from /osrg/, where you CAN talk about AD&D 2e, retroclones & other general OSR. This general exists (and is seperate from /osrg/) due to trolling on /osrg/ making discussion impossible.Previous thread>>97301927Thread Question: Favorite type of Fiend?
I think I like Hezrou as my favorite fiends.Big stinky frogs that hit like trucks. I think most people coming in from newer editions just aren't ready for demons that are actually scary, and something about Hezrous helps wake them up pretty quickly.
>>97320024Trolling, real new thread is here:>>97315519>>97315519>>97315519and has been up for hours, jannies please remove this hijack attempt
>>97320024>Thread Question: Favorite type of Fiend?Succ. They suck in every game though.Hate using them, hate seeing them, still my favorite though. In a game almost a decade ago, some completely random succubus just appeared out of nowhere in the middle of this big battle and started energy draining our mage, and everything went to shit after that for the whole rest of the adventure because he became useless.
>>97320064Hezrou need something to make them more special. I always confuse them with Slaads.
>>97320150More detail required, like why did the DM do that and why did all of you keep playing?
I'm happy Stranger Things is done.My DM expected everyone to watch it and would drop references to the show during games like they were some kind of reward.
>>97320024for what fucking purpose?
>>97320212It was a battle against some cultists in an underground temple, and we had gone in from some side way we thought was secret. We start fighting, advancing away from that side entrance with the mage way behind, and then a succubus just comes in from behind the mage and hits him with charm. We all fucked up. We should have immediately turned back to rescue the mage, but we were still fighting the cultists, and the succ got four levels off him with kiss suggestions before we could kill her.We didn't really understand how bad things were until the mage player explained what his character had lost and how the succ had basically killed him.
>>97320024Ooh sexy mari lithi step on me dommy mommy.
>>97320158It's weird because I always described them with demon horns because that's how my first DM described them to me, and it was only way way later that I found out they didn't have them.
>>97320335Just report this thread and move on. This is some sort of bizarre metatroll, the other thread is the successor.
>>97320375Ouch. Glad there was an element of 'we could have done better' and it wasn't 'bad DM did it because bad DM and there was nothing we could have done' scenario I had in my head.
I tried scoring with my guys. Not really our style, but still pretty interesting and changed things up a few notches.Tried running them through The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, and we only got through a few rooms and they had a negative score (i didn't tell them that yet), but they wanted to continue.
>>97320024I fucking love Mariliths. I particularly love it when they have HIndu styling to them.>>97320523>bargaining with crab +1>believing crab -1 And people try and tell me D&D isn't serious business.
>>97320375Succubi can fly and go ethereal. You could have gotten ambushed at an even worse time and someone could have been drained to death. You guys got lucky.
>>97320581>serious businessYou'd actually be surprised by serious a whole table gets when they understand every action (well not really, but they don't know that) they make is being graded and assigned points.
>Thread Question: Favorite type of Fiend?Remember the old days when there were two types of fiend: Pit fiends and Asmodeus? In 2e there may be just one type because Asmodeus was no longer called a fiend. All the rest were called devils or demons.Until Planescape.Calling the evil outer planar/lower planes monsters collectively fiends is very Planescape. I didn't much like Planescape. I've heard tales of people whose motivation was>Let's play Planescape and take on the Lady of PainI hope those are fake. You do have to make a campaign your own which you can't do by following the setting book to the letter but that idea is possibly even worse than the Darksun's early metaplot.Anyone know of earlier references to "fiendish planes" than Planescape so I can shake my fist at more and older clouds?
>>97320375>the mage player explained what his character had lost and how the succ had basically killed him.Yeah but he got dem smoochums.
>>97320667>Anyone know of earlier references to "fiendish planes" than Planescape so I can shake my fist at more and older clouds?Manual of the Planes from 1e?
>>97320667>Remember the old days when there were two types of fiend: Pit fiends and Asmodeus?I remember a whole folio of fiends.
>>97320667>I hope those are fake. They kind of have to be, since the Lady of Pain is not statted like killable gods.>I didn't much like PlanescapeI have a hard time figuring out my own feelings for it.Planescape lore is something I dove headfirst into before I really had the ability to differentiate what good/bad lore even was, and with how the different D&D settings blurred in and out of it, it's sometimes really tricky to figure out where the good or bad ideas even originated from, making it that much harder to assess Planescape by itself.I think I hate Sigil. But, I love the planes, and Planescape really helped expand their lore dramatically and predominantly in ways I agreed with.
>>97320676A folio which contained the most dreaded fiend of all.
Not every fiend is top shelf.
>>97320150Succubi are plebian. Erinyes are for conoissoeurs.
>>97320676I thought about that and deleted my line about "Fiend Folio doesn't count" but still you got a kek you clever little devil.>>97320673I had a quick look before I posted but I didn't see it. Because you suggested I had a longer look. The only fiend I found was a note to look in Fiend Folio. The Nine Hells inhabitants are "devilish" and "devilkind", and Abyss beings are "demonic". There may be more fiends out there, but it'll have to be found by someone other than me running their finger along a piece of paper and having to turn pages.Did have fun rediscovering the controversial line I had forgotten for at least six months>As Takhisis in the world of Kyrnn, Tiamat has never let her followers know that there are other arch-devils or that there is a Nine Hells at all.I still like my Takhisis to be separate from my Tiamat even if one is obviously just a reskin.

>>97320845>Succubi are plebian. Erinyes are for conoissoeurs.Indeed! Thanks for saying this. I'm loving this organic discussion about games.
>>97321075Correct, 2e is not OSR. So let's talk about on-topic games. ACKS, for example.
>>97320845>plebianfishfag ESL retard confirmed
>>97320845>Succubi are plebian. Erinyes are for conoissoeurs.Humanoid Cacodemons are for Aristocats
>>97321116>AristocatsLMAOwho's the ESL retard now, trollcow?
>>97321119In my defence, "aristocats" was obviously a typo, while "plebian" is obviously being unable to spell English and taking the word from your third world language, fishfag.
>>97320110It was archived! YEAH! Long live the fishfag thread. We're going to have tons of fun here. I love FREE discussion.
>>97320724>They kind of have to beI hope you're right but I've heard a few podcasts by people who are very narrativist-heavy playing 5e and have been into the modern version of planescape. I know nothing about 5e Planescape, not even if there has been a release for it, but I'm sure a little fact like her supposed to be an unstatted inscrutable mystery will not stop these people out there statting and scrutinizing her.As much as I din't really like Planescape I kind of liked Sigil itself as a big city. I didn't like the ease with which it could slide into a Sliders like location of the week affair. It was up to the DM whether or not you could get a key but unless you're going to be using Sigil for its ease of access to new locations then I reckon you had to be doing some politicking with the factions.Agree with you about expanding the planes. What as it you particularly liked if it's anything you can figure out? Was it the factions? Details of cultures and realms to be found in the planes?
>>97321160I'm not too much into Planescape. I think there's too many planes in it. I much prefer the more minimalist approach of ACKS when it comes to planes: Celestial, Elemental, Chthonic, Empyrean, and Outer Darkness. That's more than enough for any campaign.
>>97321066>Succubuses (succubi?)Succubi is the preferred plural but you can use succubuses all you like, just don't mind our sniggering.
>>97321184actually it's succupodes
>>97321182>ElementalForgot to say that there's actually FOUR elemental planes in ACKS: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth.
>>97321185Thank you! Yes both succubuses and succubi sounded a bit off. Good discussion, this'll amp up my game.
>>97321116It seems that she has both thick lines and thin lines. I think I would prefer her if she had only thick lines.I don't think the discussion on thick vs. thin lines from last thread was quite complete, by the way:>>97306654It was such a good food-for-thought discussion bringing together the greatest minds of OSRG.I particularly liked it when somebody suggested medium lines. That was like a Gordian Knot moment.
>>97321185Magical realm foot fetish detected.SLow down there guy. Putting the Greek suffix on the Latin radix is too amped for this board.
>>97321203I summoned her, I'll put her greek suffix on my latin radix all I want.
>>97321199>That was like a Gordian Knot moment. You know that story? The cutting of the Gordian Knot is an Ancient Greek legend associated with Alexander the Great in Gordium in Phrygia, regarding a complex knot that tied an oxcart. Reputedly, whoever could untie it would be destined to rule all of Asia. In 333 BC, Alexander was challenged to untie the knot. Instead of untangling it laboriously as everyone expected, he dramatically cut through it with his sword. This is used as a metaphor for inventing an unexpected method to solve a seemingly intractable problem. It's great that after the Alexander the Great of antiquity we now have a new Alexander the Great of modernity.
>>97321203>Magical realm foot fetish detected.Such a great point! This'll amp up my game.
>>97321207Who's that in the image? I don't recognise them.
>>97321211That's a younger Alexander "The Great" Macris! You might be familiar with this newer image. The younger version doesn't get posted as much because he's too cute and that tends to derail discussion because Anons start simping for him.
>>97321218WOW! I'd definitely let young Alexander ravage me. Let's go back to the topic of games, though, let's not get derailed. What's your favourite ACKS monster?
>>97321220Mine is probably the Draugr. I like him because he's so fat. I've invented this new spell called >Ozempic's Semaglutidethat makes him thin and depressed. It was a bit hard to balance because it's an esoteric spell by the ACKS rules.
>>97321228>>Ozempic's SemaglutideIt took me a moment but I see what you did there.
>>97320110Wait, why did /todd/ get archived and this fake thread stays up? Rare janny fumble
Don't get distracted and keep up the on-topic ACKS posting.
>>97321064reading must be inspiring – you can see the passion of the author and his competence. I cannot even imagine how difficult of a task writing these books was, but I am sure that the author feels satisfied. The art is great too.
>>97321421I can’t see how anyone could rate this book as anything lower than 10/10.
>>97321421>>97321464Agree. ACKS seems to take the classic D&D concept and refine it until it’s perfect.

>>97321738That's horrible. They're in favour of slavery and their rulebooks have chainmail bikinis. Good that they were banned from reddit.
>>97321747If even the dim-witted people on Reddit were able to recognize ACKS's bad faith brigading, that discord must have been particularly stupid and inept.Imagine if that same idiotic discord came to 4chan, where we're used to anonymous posters as the default, and they thought they'd be able to trick us here. It's almost laughable how obvious and how shitty any of their shilling or samefagging or otherwise bad faith brigading would appear to us here. With ACKS being complete shit, it's serves as a perfect key to any post.Any post in praise of the system? You probably should doubt that post.
>>97321777>their rulebooks have chainmail bikinislmaoNot sure if they're in favour of slavery (based if true), but there sure are chainmail bikinis in ACKS.

>>97321831That's horrible. I hear they're also white supremacists and people who say "fishfag" are BrOSR.
>>97321848>people who say "fishfag" are BrOSRThey are. They make me so sad because fishfag doesn't exist. But enough talking about this off-topic stuff, let's talk about games. Who's your favourite BrOSR character?
>>97321834And a pretty shitty one at that.I do enjoy the kind of losers who'd play a game with dedicated seduction rolls. There's something so... loveless kissless perma-virgin loser about that sort of mechanic.
>>97321849It has to be Macho Mandalf. I mean, he's hilarious. A wizard with 18 strength lmao I wish I could run one. Can I run a wizard with 18 strength in ACKS? Not that I would want to because they've all been banned from reddit.
>>97321860They're literal incels. Even those who have wives.
>>97321867>Can I run a wizard with 18 strength in ACKSYou shouldn't be running ACKS because it's pro-slavery and banned from reddit, but if you really have to, yes, you can create a mage and give him 18 strength.
>>97321870I fucking hate incels. Can you make an incel character in ACKS?
>>97321883I guess you can, you just give him 3 in charisma
>>97321886Wait, there's an incel CHARACTER CLASS in ACKS? Wtf that actually shows they're incels and own slaves. I wonder where the all went after they were banned from reddit.
>>97321894Anon, if you don't like it just don't play it. I'd rather have a system with an incel character class and not use it than have a system without an incel character class.
>>97321789>as soon as he thinks he has cover for it, Fishfag instantly starts seething about ACKS again
>>97321789>Any post in praise of ACKS? You probably should doubt that post. This is so true. For example, I hate the special rules for humanoid tribal traits in ACKS (picrel). I want my humanoids to all be the same. If someone says that they like this rule, they're probably shilling for ACKS.
>>97321918These rules for Dragon special abilities are also complete shit. If somebody says that they have used them in their campaign to create Dragons with unique combinations of powers, you should doubt them.
>>97321928What's the worst are the rules for creating constructs like Golems or Living Statues. Why would you need those? If a player wants to have a Golem just give him a Golem. As long as it fits the story, of course.
It's a good thing that the easiest way to show people how shit ACKS is just to show them the actual rules. It's very much the poster child of "Just because a system has rules for something doesn't mean they're going to be good rules."
>>97321982That's what got them banned from Reddit, 100%.The ACKS discord would say how great the game is, then post pages thinking they were showing it off, and the resounding response was "That's it?"It was from that seed of doubt that everything else started to unravel, because when the praise for a game and the actual quality are so disparate, even the people of Reddit had to start to wonder if shilling was going on.The irony is that if the game had been any good, no one would have thought any brigading was going on at all; but if it had been any good, they wouldn't have had to brigade.
>>97321982So true! Here's another rule I hate: Random magic item table by item rarity. Who would ever need such a thing? You can just keep rerolling on a generic table until you get something of the appropriate power level, or just make it up. Completely useless.
>>97322005And now they're trying the same thing on OSRG-Free.This shows our general has success, because they think that by promoting their stuff here on OSRG-Free they can sell more copies!
>>97322005>>97322014Yeah, OSRG-Free is a great general full of actual people who actually play games. Everybody would want to post here to promote they're stuff. I hear ShadowDark increased its sales 50% for a week after it was mentioned here.
>>97322028>I hear ShadowDark increased its sales 50% for a week after it was mentioned here. Are you crazy? You mentioned ShadowDark on OSRG-Free and now Kelsey Dionne is going to make at least $100,000 in the next four days thanks to the publicity.

>>97322349The Toad Prince from the Witcher 3 fits that, since the Witcher setting is one of those odd ones where the line between what people understand to just be fairy tails and what's real are blurred in really cynical fashions.I think a whole bunch of peasant women seeking a prince descending down into the sewers only to be devoured by a giant frog, who is in fact actually a cursed prince, is about as cynical as things get.

>>97323131Why play ACKS2 over something like WWN? I get the appeal of the 1e, but 2e seems pointless.
>>97322899>The only way to fix the trolling on /osrg/ is to return to it. No, that's been tried, and it really doesn't fix anything. I think drawing attention to just how psychotic the trolls are is actually helping things out, and judging by how most people seem to have gotten the warning that the /osrg/ is nothing but troll bumps, this thread is doing its job. Hell, the trolls constantly trying to flood it to show how upset they are only adds to that. The core of the problem is really just a few bad actors, with insane amounts of free time and neurosis. The moderation regarding them really can't continue like this forever, so as long as people just continue to discuss OSR games in these new OSR generals, things will eventually heal. There's also been decent discussion in these threads once you learn the easy trick of ignoring the trolls.Remember: if this has gotten the trolls this furious, that means they're getting desperate. You don't spend ten hours screaming in frustration if everything is going as you planned.

And yet, this troll would rather spend several hours here, just begging for someone real to pay attention to him even just for an instance...Throwing echo chamber posts between themselves really seems to make them desperate.>>97323214/tg/ never raided. Old /tg/ didn't even have to, because it just had such a good defense against trolls/etc, something built from it starting out with enduring nearly constant raids from /b/. Now, /tg/ is too small and more importantly too divided.
>>97323323Irinically, I think what drove most people away from the /osrg/ wasn't the trolls acting like trolls, it was the trolls trying to act like anyone would care about anything they wanted to say. They have a way of draining all the life out of a game, and a discussion. And that's them trying their hardest to be interesting. It must be awful, being that bland.
>>97323145Interesting question, there's lots to say on the topic, but you seem to be lost. This is a copycat general made by a troll (fishfag) who's been trying to hijack /osrg/ for years. /osrg/ regulars refuse to have serious discussions here, we only shitpost and insult fishfag here.If you ask on the real /osrg/, I and probably other Anons will be happy to answer.
>>97323214lmao at fishfag believing that there's a secret discord dedicated to mocking him
>>97323323>Old /tg/ had such a good defense against trolls/etcIt still does. Look at how thoroughly you are being rekt here.
guys, ive a crazy idea but bear with me. why dont we create a new general with a different name than "osrg" and see if the /osrg/ trolls will leave us alone
>>97323598He doesn't want a thread to discuss things, he wants to make /osrg/ tell him he's right that 2e is OSR, because he has autism
>>97323613His level of autism is appalling.Fishfag's been at this literally for years. Every single day of his life, multiple times a day. All because a game he doesn't even know the rules of is classified differently than he would like to on one general on 4chan.It boggles the mind.
>>97323155>with insane amounts of free time and neurosis. It sometimes feels like adults in online video games having to deal with kids who spend 14 hours a day playing the same game, except while the kids might be developing skills, these neets are just developing autism.
>>97320523Tournament scoring is the one true way to play and everyone who thinks otherwise is getting -5 points.I'm only half joking.
>>97322899/osrg/ is fucked. >>97323066I just dick around a bit on donjon. It's got basically any tool you might need. Might not take you the whole way, but will definitely start you off.
>>97323565>lmao at fishfag believing that there's a secret discord dedicated to mocking himI mean he still believes that someone wrote a 200 page campaign write up just to get at him.Narcissists can never admit they're wrong.
>>97323765Right. That's entering paranoid schizophrenia territory, though.
>>97323765I thought it was firmly established that the 200 page thing was written just because that's what BrOSR losers do anyway?https://bdubsanddragons.blogspot.com/2025/07/braunstein-is-talk-of-town-bromerican.htmlThey just write these things out because they're always struggling to figure out how to make their games the most boring things ever and what could be more boring than a heaping slab of text no one would ever want to read.BrOSR losers encourage each other to write up their campaigns, probably because their games feel empty and maybe sharing them can help each other feel like they're not the worst people playing the worst games somehow.
>>97323816Why do the BrOSR try to ruin everything?
>>97323816>Everybody I don't like is the BrOSR.lmaoAdorable how obsessively the little autist keeps repeating the same bullshit.
>>97323145I'm not sure why you would call it pointless when it's just a revised and updated version and not a completely new iteration. It codifies a lot of things and connects certain things that touched together. It is also what two of my current DMS are using so naturally I picked up some free PDFs, and they have been a gold mine for material
>>97323095NTA, I was the one who mentioned the great sword thing. That's another great catch
>>97323214Which one specifically are you referring to? The thing is you keep claiming that there is a active discord raid that has been going on for I think months now, perpetrated by the broSr in order to promote Acks. But what server are you talking about? And how would you even have information on it if you weren't a part of it? These statements alone lead me to believe that you are either a very bad faith actor, or that you have actual psychotic delusions that are preventing you from interacting with reality
>>97323066Use appendix a from the dungeon Master's guide to generate the layout, and use the website dungeon scrawl to visually map it.Ignore the other guy who told you to use random dungeon generators. They are good as a novelty and nothing else, they won't actually teach you anything about how to make a dungeon or how to stock it.
>>97323952
>>97323861It's not that they're trying to ruin things, it's just everything they try to do is bogged down by ineptitude. The BrOSR don't encourage write-ups for the same reason you or I might. Y'know, tell a good story, spark some joy or what not. They do it because they need receipts. Receipts of games is like any other sort of strict record keeping for them; without them the game can't have meaning to them. It's a bit like Russian Roulette. The game itself (minus the blowing your brains out) is actually pretty simple and even a bit boring, so they really have to raise the stakes in order for people to care about it. With BrOSR, they run bad games in dumb ways, so they need to try and employ every trick and technique they can to "raise the stakes" and pretend the game has some sort of meaning, when the unfortunate truth is that no game that these people would play would ever have a shred of point or purpose because the people themselves are pretty much just shit.
>>97323978Lmao I was the one who made the "ACKS bad" edit a while back using that exact same fish face, very amusing to see it again. Maybe we should start using that as a general macro and start hitting him with some of the class
>>97323990Some of the classics**For fuck sakes>>97323981What's even more fascinating is that regardless of what game system they are playing, and no matter how bad their games seem to be from the outside, they are still able to have fun and type up full reports. Meanwhile, the single person here trying to beg for 2e, has admitted to only ever having played one single session, and has posted some embarrassingly fake character sheets. Really, regardless of personal taste, you have to admit that one side is at least more throw and dedicated, whereas the other party is basically completely disengaged from the hobby entirely.
>>97323990>using that exact same fish face, very amusing to see it againYeah I loved yours so much I took yours, asked Gemini to remove the speech bubble and make the background white, and then used GIMP to make this template. I'm planning or reusing it in the future.

I don't care I'm going to post it for you when I'm done anyways haha
>>97324041Yooo the necronomicn comics that Alan Moore did features a few different fishman raping a lady scenes (she ended up wanting it and it's a mindless creature so I guess she was raping it via beastiality in the end). We could probably scrape a few images from those for meme use. Also I know that they aren't fish, but I'm still frightened about how dolphins will torture people and then drown them and rape them
>>97324047>Especially with making the background transparent.Gemini's pretty good at identifying individual items and removing or swapping them. You can e.g. take an image of an elf with a sword, ask it to swap the sword with a mace, and 70-80% of the time it gets it reasonably well on the first attempt.
>>97324041Not bad. Here's the template. Same procedure

>>97324047DungeonCrawlFrensSession #~130While enjoying a christmas party at the keep, the window blows open with a flurry of snow, bringing with it an elf owl carrying a package as big as its body, collapsing to the table in exhaustion. Within the festively wrapped package was a snowglobe, and on the reverse of the wrapping paper, a letter (that had to be pieced together as the frenchman had torn the paper apart opening it). The letter was from a “Mayor Winklebottom Jr IV”, from the distant arctic land of Hypergnomea. It described that his remote mountain village was under mysterious attack and cut off from aid. Knowing the party as the heroes who has saved multiple countries in peril (including his own), he implores the Heroes of Lannes Keep to prepare themselves for danger, then smash the snowglobe at their feet. Once they did, the globe exploded into a blizzard, and the party felt themselves yanked out of the window as they flew as a snow cloud, crossing thousands of miles nearly instantly, recorporealizing at the edge of a snowy alpine forest, a prosperous looking tourism town visible far off downhill, and beyond that, a looming mountain dotted in massive evergreens, the thin peak of which droops over to the side, nearly curling on itself. The stink was incredible from the air blowing off them mountain, like living near a landfill.Travelling through the forest on foot, nearly halfway to town, following a sleigh path through the dense woods, the party sees a carriage shelter, and beneath it, an old man on a bench, wearing a dirty red cloak over plate armor and with a similar large red sack beside him. His hood was up but it was apaprent one eye was badly swollen and crusted shut and his skin sallow. The party hailed him, and he explained he was leaving town, but was resting briefly. Somehow, he smelled even worse than the air, like the sickly sweet of rot. The party offered him aid which he denied. Disturbed but cautious, the party decided to give him (cont)

The party moved into position, but the puppeted warrior tossed the red sack behind their line, and from it came six more centipedes. Over the course of combat, the puppet-man-thing attacked with its acidic centipede bite, aided by its troglodyte-like stench. The centipedes used their bites to latch and and begin attempting to burrow into the PC’s guts to puppet them too. Fortunately, the brave party prevailed, recovered some health, and pressed on. In my lotfp game I had some skeletons that were resistant to non-bludgeoning damage, and one of the players correctly pointed out that the back end of his handaxe could be used as a hammer, but I told him it wasn't designed for that and gave him a -2 to hit and damage, but upon reflection I think I may have fucked up and been too heavy-handed.Should I just have rewarded his characters resourcefulness and the players reasoning??

>>97329723Instead of such a banal inane reply, could you try to say something of substance? Explain how or why he was wrong? >>97329627Two things come to mind in this situation:1. A hand ax is not the same as a hatchet, 2. The hammer side of a hatchet is not designed to be swung in the same way with the same Force as the blade, the weight distribution is different, and the handle itself is ergonomically shaped to be swung the other way. That being said I would have allowed it, but just -1 to hit (maybe damage if I was feeling frisky). Lotfp is already punishing enough in regards to combat.
