>>97419452I'm excited because if the trend holds we'll get lots of hobbits focused around food and I'll finally get the definitive fat fucks commander+creatures deck I've craving to build ever since the first LOTR dropped.Of course I was also excited for Lorwyn because I thought we were also going to get lots of new faeries, and that turned out to be a mega bust so I have to temper my expectations.

huh, alopex has a card, but she isn't a legendary. Thats a shame, she's basically the only tmnt character I'd have a chance as running a commander.
>>97420233>>97420233>>97420233Shit like this makes me so glad I only play online because I'd crash out in person.
>>97420233P2 is a retard. I would of let P3 die and save the removal for when that thing comes to me at that very moment, not pre-emptively, especially when P3 has given him more than enough resources. Its always the winning move to let your opponent use their resources on someone else and save it for when you're in trouble.
>>97420258They did this in Spider-Man where they represented some named-characters on non-legendary cards to try and cut down on the legendary bloat.
So the turtles set looks like it's leaning hard into just making very simple and basic but effective color identity cards. This really pisses me off since I have lots of simple Timmy decks that want these cards but then I'd have to use cringeass ninja turtles.
>>97420258just do it
>>97420318eh, i was more curious/hopeful she'd get a neat ability. being able to bag only creatures is kinda lame.
>>97420311If you just don’t buy UB WotC will be forced to bring back UW or otherwise just reprint these effects on normal cards.Stop falling for FOMO.
Thinking about building her as a human tribal/light-stax deck with 40+ creatures, do you guys think that would work or nah?
>>97420397Why the fuck is that weapon so tiny next to her head? Is that meant to be a fucking rapier or a letter opener?
>>97420131Ran him for few years but dissassembled him this year because the gameplay was one-note and transparant. The drawback in Tresserhorn etb is substantial so you have to run cards to mitigate that. You have to generate plenty of sac fodder. Run options that he has both haste and evasion to land a hit. Damage doublers to make that hit count. Protection because once hes removed youre a sitting duck.Covering all of the above you have a functional deck thats a threat, but you dont have alot of room for expression. Normally Id deckpost but it seems the pictures of the deck are on an old phone. Soulful inclusion is Shivan Harvest as targetted lamd destruction

>>97422551Next you'll be trying to convince us Birthing Pod is also bad.

>>97422784>you should bargainYes if the other 2 players weren't miles ahead of me and the combo player. I'm not at the table to play kingmaker.
>>97422833Does your deck want anything on the battlefield before your commander comes out or does your deck want its commander out before it does anything? If the latter, 2cmc ramp could be useful to give you faster double spells or hold up protection when you cast your commander on turn 3-4.Otherwise, early plays or early draw/impulse/selection. You don't "need" early ramp if you aren't ramping into anything specific. Consider burst ramp that puts you far ahead in the early-mid game, or utility rocks that just happen to tap for mana.

You are effectively a waifufag.
>>97423146Illiterate, my post is literally about painting over it with another character. The mechanic is fun. I don’t understand why that’s so hard to grasp for you when I’ve reiterated this repeatedly with a non-competitive decklist. Of course it isn’t the best commander in any regard, it gives free shit to your opponents.

>>97423354They've already milked almost all relevant UW moments into other card types (bonds of mortality), and the rest into sagas (the eldest reborn)Whatever could possibly be left is better served to UB as UB is the main priority now due to contractual obligations with 3rd parties, wotc's A team is all there

Beginner here.Does a card have to specifically say >youfor it to only benefit me?Trying to figure out if this card benefits the other players too
>like building synergistic decks>dont use any tutors>dont use any 2 card instant win combos>dont use any game changers>according to archidekt theyre only bracket 2>local people complain about my decksi only started playing two months ago, how can i tell if my decks are too strong or if the people in my area just suck?
>>97423397>>97423398Saga triggers are no different to storming off, idk why the fact its permanent triggers instead of casting a bunch of instants is somehow worse for you people
>>97423502It benefits other players too
>>97423509The average casual player doesnt know how to win effectively
>>97423502You can't actually be this bad at reading card text anon. If it just said "whenever" maybe I'd get your confusion but it literally says "its controller" instead of "you"I don't know how it could be more clear. Here's the exact same effect but better and only applying to you btw.
>>97423530This. It's less about the deck and more about the shitty pilot behind it.
>>97423510Storming off usually builds toward a win the turn it happens. You are just getting through your upkeep. They are not he same.
>>97423559Right and i say this because my pod has a real casual that doesnt care if he gets 1 win out of 12 for the night, a true "happy to be here" kind of guyWhich ofc makes reading rants here itt all the more funnier as they are all just sweats that don't know anything and are deeply in denial
>>97423509Are you running a bunch of simic decks that outpace everyone while they are busy durdling or something?
>>97423575Sagas are what you get and deserve for banning infinites in your pod btw
I'm trying to lower the curve and tune out my Teneb deck. I think I've got too much removal and too much recursion.
>>97423509ask if they're playing to win for startersa lot of people play the game to make friends, in which case you should bring funny and confusing decks or play your hand sparingly
>>97423601Seethe and projection.

>>97423606Hit post accidentally. I've got...>11 recursion spells>15 removal spells (8 mass removal, 7 targeted, good variety of exiles, sacrifice, -x/-x and destroy spells)But I've got only 9 draw spells and 12 ramps spells. Of course 9 tutors on top of all that. Should I be going for a few less recursion and removal for some more draw and win conditions?
>>97423636The only dork here seething about a shitty archetype is (You)
Retro-border artifacts look so much better, why did they ever switch to that dull gray?
>>97423588so far ive built a bello deck, a lathiel deck, and a teysa karlov deckare any of these considered "meta" or "overpowered" commanders?
>>97423678Because new border technically gives you more art than old, and extended cards are just the logical conclusion of that sentimentAs to why they switched to gray, it's probably because metal is more likely to be color gray than poo
Underrated card
>>97423748Nah oil counters are usually pretty bad.Here. It's more situational but objectively this shit will pay off more than Vat of Rebirth
>>97423678I agree. Especially the foil ones. Whenever available and I can afford it, I get that version.
What do we think of this card? Sure it's expensive, but man does it slap when it hits. Versatile too. It wins games.
>>97423678>>97423820They look ugly as sin, nostalgiaboomers. Outdated blocky design.
>>97423839
>>97423829If i'm going to pay more than 5 mana for a wrath i'd rather it comes with something a color rarely if ever gets to do, like stealing commanders
>>97423854Nah objectively just correct. It's like saying games from 2003 have better graphics than 2025. You might have nostalgia for that bygone era but objectively it's not BETTER by any metric.
>>97423857Does this steal a commander though? If so, based. But drawing potentially dozens of cards after a board wipe, and cycling out a bunch of tokens is also based.
>>97423678Because zoom zooms don't understand that "artifact" suggests ancient and ancient metal oxidizes. Case in point: >>97423704>>97423839
>>97423909The post Mirrodin artifact theme is too hard to distinguish from white cards. Older is bedder.
>>97423909Okay?1. There are artifacts that aren't ancient2. There are artifacts not made of metal3. Just because a card makes you specifically think of certain associations doesn't mean it needs to go on the frame4. Even if you disagree with all of the above it doesn't justify retro frames being so uglyyyyyyy
>>97423909Not only is rust not brown wizards want their toys shiny instead of rusting, sorry but those are straight facts
>>97423909Correct.>>97423948Also correct.>>97423941Incorrect.
>>97423929You know, when Mirrodin hit I thought the new border was a special treatment for the Mirrodin block, to represent how everything was shiny polished metal now and not rusty artifacts dug up from the Brothers' War. I really miss the corroded border and especially the stained glass effect on the text box.
>>97423897It steals commanders using the same logic of commanders dying triggering death triggers yes
Very complicated ruling question. Any nerds around?
>>97423941>1. There are artifacts that aren't ancientThere are artifacts that are ancient, and the name implies this.>2. Even if you disagree with all of the above it doesn't justify retro frames being so uglyyyyyyyZoomer taste issue.>>97423948>wizards want their toys shiny instead of rustingAnd here we hit on the crux of the issue: Wizards does not understand their own game, UB incentivizes them not to care, and zoom zooms have been raised in an environment where they don't know any better.
>>97423869Yes, we're not talking about a difference in fidelity. It's a stylistic difference, which has nothing to do with age. It is by definition a subjective measure. Statements like "outdated" or decrying it as "blocky" are subjective and don't actually say anything of value about the quality of those things. Blocky can be good. Sleek and clean is not an objective improvement in art. If you wanted to approach it from that angle, then we could easily approach the new frame from the angle of calling it "sterilized" and "over-simplified."
>>97423959Thanks Ikoria rules change.
>>97423979just ask your question

>>97424042If you replace Animate Dead with Necromancy you might get confused again.
>>97424038SHUT UP! DELETE THIS!
>>97424039No the ultimate insult is to pretend you've lost and shuffle through your hand, graveyard, even cards in exile, and scan the field, each several times like you can't believe you've lost. And then straight-faced, wordlessly play a wincon and take the game. There's literally nothing worse than someone who goes through every card like their brain is capable of storing each individual one in memory for a serendipitous surprise combo instead of just playing their fucking hand. It's the worst thing you can do to people without fucking up their cards.
>>97424048Well, it was part of an enchanted evening combo my brain melted a bit. What happens with necromancy?
>>97424087necromancy is just a non-aura that becomes an aura as an ETB trigger, it ought to work with opalescence out because it's gaining the subtype.
>>97424108Then you just bring back the creature, necromancy is a creature based on the layers or priority or whatever, it never enchants the creature, the creature goes to the yard, you put the trigger for the creature on the stack whenever you want?
>>97424038>most of these objects belong to a given category>ARE YOU STUPID THERE'S ONE THAT DOESN'T BELONG TO THAT CATEGORY RIGHT THERE!You also did not address the fact that the new border is also still metal, or that the permanent is still called an artifact.

>>97425016To be fair, borderless and full art can be really cool to show off really nice pieces and do things atypical of the more confined art-space.That said I completely agree marketing has driven a lot of the changes (at least those not driven by readability, which is another factor in marketing) and resulted in a number of cards just pasted to the edges of the card just for the sake of being more expensive treatments.I'd like if more cards had unique thematic borders for promos and special treatments. While I got them because I thought they looked better than the standard cards, the really dark land treatments from EoE and some from the new Tarkir are fairly meh on account of the boring border (and lack thereof) and the Mystic Archive manga cards from Strixhaven would have been criminal rather than just disappointing if they were supposed to be elevated from cheaper treatments by a single fucking shiny textbox.

>>97425863She's extremely strong but most players blow their load with her turn 3-4 and then durdle because they have no way to cycle lands and reliably get her back up to the magic 21 nor do they include enough protection to stop her from being blasted back to the command zone as the rest of the table finds blockers and removal. If you get a God hand where you start with boots and protection and land recursion and an additional land enabler she can rapidly end the game, but Tifa needs all 4 of those pieces on the board to do so and atm there just isn't enough repeatable mono green haste enablers/land recursion/additional land sources to fill up the deck with. Icetill is super powerful with her because it's tutorable and fulfills 2/4 of her requirements singlehandedly but it currently is one of a kind. Given how insipid their designing has come I don't doubt Tifa will grow in power over time as WOTC continues to print FIRE design landfall shit like Icetill, but by that time I imagine Tifa herself will also be replaced by another doubler who is objectively better (probably with built in haste and protection to mitigate 50% of her biggest problems).

Have a set where going mono-colored gives you more and more power at that cost. Might be fun, and certainly would play different in sealed events. In EDH and standard the cards would add some variety for sure. Mono-colored decks would be more viable and decks going multicolored would really have to make some choices on mana base and casting cost/curve with their cards.

They are essential to every deck in every format and WotC very deliberately dripfeeds reprints to keep prices high BECAUSE people need themThat's pretty fucking revolting imo. There is no good reason that precons shouldn't have triomes and shocks and fetches etc etc etc. The fact that they consistently print them with shitty fucking tapped lands is an insult.

>>97430396>wotc should print triomes and shocks to the ground because they are essential to every deck!how are they essential? a pod of only precons certainly doesn't "need" them, and cedh doesn't even use themyou just want to win but can't because your opponents have more disposable income than you and you can't come to terms that mtg is a pay to win gameand even if they did print shocks and triomes and fetches to the ground wotc will simply make strictly superior ones with "gain 1 life" on them or whatever and then those are the ones that are going to spike and you'll be kvetching again, ironically keeping triomes and shocks and fetches expensive ensures they don't get powercrept

WotC has pledged not to reprint them and instead they print shittier versions of them, but knowing people want to get as close to the power of the dual lands as possible, these other cards fetch high prices. There simply is no justification for that. People need lands. People should not be forced to run objectively worse lands because WotC is creating artificial scarcity of good ones.Fuck off with your faggot projections about my motives when I spelled out to you why I think what I think.>even if they did print shocks and triomes and fetches to the ground wotc will simply make strictly superior onesAnd they fucking shouldn't, kind of the fucking point here.

>>97430596>A big reason why Modern and Legacy are deadthat is a powercreep issue, not a reprint issueold modern (pre war of the spark) was in a much better spot even though fetches were more or less as expensive then as they are now, the reason cards are expensive is because wotc churned out so much powerful stuff in a few years that upended 8 years of meta (rip jund)
>>97430674Both of these things can be true. MH was a mistake even if it had a ton of cool designs, but look at this and tell me it wouldn't be a turnoff to someone curious about the format.

>>97431749Is that a heckin NINJA RAT IN A JAPAN INSPIRED BACKGROUND? I have never ever seen ninja rats with Japanese theme to them in magic. This is so jarring
>>97431739Yeah it was exhausting. I got bad lock of the draw having a known rager join my game after me. I knew he would get upset over the rule of law, but it was my best out to such a fast board.
>>97431758Ummmmm Marrow Gnawer?
Freya, my beloved
>>97431607Absolutely perplexed why staxfags get surprised and mad when their opponents make stupid choices. Play anything else if you can't handle your opponents being stupid and suicide bombing the plug keeping all the water in the tub. EDH players are stupid and will make bad choices that lose them games, you know this, I know this. So stop playing the poster boy archetype that gets raped when it happens.
>it's a table has all the interaction and everyone is left with a middling board and 1 card in hand episode
>>97431954this but change staxfags for "anyone at all"
>playgroup is taking long as fuck turns and thinking a shit load>realize its my fault because i keep playing daze, mana tithe, and other non blue spell interaction which means they have to worry about me pivoting any game to a blow out>already bought a playset of aven interrupters>getting a hexing squelcher to combo with tibalts trickeryWhatever fuck. If I'm a menace im just gunna become a monster.
>>97431954>rule of law>stax??
>>97431954no, retards should learn to play properly so I can enjoy a pretty cool archetype that is not some form of unga bunga race u fast me cums
"Did Melenia... do this?"
>>97432085If your deck crumples from people playing "improperly," then it's a shitty deck.
>>97432114I can still win, but it makes it so it takes longer and in general it becomes a worse experience for everyone involved.
Month 2 of no playgroup. I don't even remember what my decks felt like...
>>97432114Any deck can lose to the table being retarded. Commander in particular requires sound decision-making, and if your opponents are bad enough you may as well be playing against a random number generator.
>>97431749NINJA TURTLES BAD! TURTLE NINJAS GOOD!
>>97432195UW doesn't get the Ninja Turtle branding sorry
>>97432195yes
>>97432195People were mad about turtles because they don't know anything about it.
You think stax players have it bad? Try playing goad.
>>97432275Goad is the fastest way to get hated off the table and it's not even fucking close. I build this lil dude with the entire gameplan of "put +1/+1 on everyone's creatures, proliferate once every turn" and the game goes 1v3 near instantly. Everyone immediately starts playing/saving all their targeted removal for him every time
>>97432275Goad is so fucking easy and strong. Git good nigga.
>>97432326I've had players kill their own creatures so they didn't have to "be mean"
>>97432342Wait your playgroup lets you pivot goad into straight removal? I wish my goads were delete target creature thats insane value.
>>97432275The only goad worth playing
>>97432356>yes, I do proxy 2000$ cards how could you tell
>>97432275I fucking love goad
>>97432412I don't get it.
>>97432425
>>97432447Are you in some weird world where everyone uses this card in Rendmaw?
Does anyone have any advice how to improve my stax/pillowfort deck? I'm thinking about adding containment priest. Is it antisynergy if it cancels out all my blink cards? I'm also thinking of Court of Grace as an alt wincon/donation engine for Stiltzkin card draw.>concept of the deck is using white CA engines and slowing down and staxing out the whole table while donating asymmetrical stax pieces and bad gifts to other players for card advantage with stilzkin. The main wincon is donating Nine Lives, Transcendence or Delaying Shield on players at the right moments that make them lose the game.https://moxfield.com/decks/X1HVPP0mTkG26jT4_hcPgQ
>>97432470I also can use Solemnity combined with stuff like nine lives or delaying shield to make a decent pillow fort defense while also fucking up all the +1//+1 counter bullshit decks out there.
>>97432275I had to retire my Marisi deck pretty fast. After just a couple of games everyone saved removal and would hit everything I put on the board. Making them actually have to engage with the board drove them mad.
>>97432447>cool card>costs $2500
>Oh, you're playing a tribal deck?>Yep, there's the roaming throne>Yep there is the coat of arms or the banner of kinship>Oh, cavern of souls and three tree city? How daring.>And look, its all the shitty tribal anthems that just happen to also be mana rocks, thrilling.>Hierloom blade? You wow, you really are spoiling me.Fuck any retard that plays tribal.
>>97432571I don't run any of these things in my zombie deck
>>97432571Cavern of souls exists to make a commander uncounterable. And roaming throne onlys as a crutch for bad tribes like angels, good tribes like vampires dont need that shit.
>>97432587what do you mean?roaming throne on a yuriko deck is brutal
>>97432587>Cavern of souls exists to make a commander uncounterableNo it doesn't. Don't be a retard.
>>97432571>>Hierloom bladeNever knew about this card until now. Thanks anon! This is perfect for my Dragons, Goblins and Soldier decks
>>97432592Ninjas are a shit tribe, yuriko herself is whats good.>>97432594Yes it does, tribal decks are capped out at bracket 3 and cavern literally exists to brute force out a commander.
>>97432571>wizards hard focuses on a few select tribes and leaves the other ones starving for content>players try to make their favored tribes work despite this and include cards that help them hold up against soulless goodstuff slop pile players I'm sure your decks are real original and interesting anon, I'm sure you struggled hard and long to find good cards for them.
>>97432571Shocker, people play cards that support the strategy they're playing. Nobody is seething at every treasure deck running professional face breaker or every aristocrats deck for running blood artist stop being a retard.
I made a boros giant deck for the new Bre of clan stoutarm, just for the sake of flavor, and what little synergy exists in the creature type. Fun, if very inefficient.
>>97432633They wouldn't need to run them if they were any good at deckbuilding
>>97432661>using cards that enable your strategy is being bad at deck building jfc I genuinely can't tell if half you dumbasses are trolling or genuinely stupid
>>97432661>people put good cards relevant to their strategy into their deck>they aren't good at deck building! It's funnier and funnier every time you bait so poorly.
>>97432661Id make a screencap but this shits so low effort its not even worth the storage space.
>>97432275Goad is not a winconMost Goad players do not comprehend this and just play it like caveman-stax, and that's why they get 1v3'd
>>97432470mono white control player here, IMO you have:- too much single target removal- too little draw- too little wincons- too little protectionfor the single target removal point, I would instead suggest replacing them with boardwipes, they are much more efficient in a multiplayer format, the best ones are IMO "Hour of Revelation" and "Farewell"for the draw point, I recommend using "Land Tax" and "Tithe" in any white deck, they are crazy value for the cost, but "Trouble in Paris" and "Mangara, the Diplomat" are also quite strongfor the wincons point, sadly mono white doesn't have access to many powerful finishers, so I suggest using "Approach of the Second Sun", it pulls a lot of aggro but it's still one of the bestfor the protection point, the only thing that keeps your deck from being murdered is the goodwill of your opponents, I recommend using more pillowfort pieces such as "Ghostly Prison", "Norn's Anex", "Lightmine Field" etcrandom thoughts:- I don't like "Silence" and "Orin's Chant" outside of combo wincons- It would be nice to put more symmetrical stax pieces in the deck to donate, - I suggest using at least 5 more lands, 33 feels very low without cheap draw effects- If your goal is to make this deck bracket 3 you still have 1 game changer slot, "Enlightened Tutor" would fit in perfectly with your strategy
>>97420136>360 degrees
>>97432889yeah like the xbox
>"typal">close the tab, turn 360 degrees and walk away
>mono white commander tribal
I'm a proxyfag. Why shouldn't I just swap out my normal counterspell for this?
>>97433117use spell swindle instead.
>>97433133But that one costs way more mana. What's striking about Mana Drain is that it costs just as much as the vanilla Counterspell, but does more, making it objectively better and me wondering what they were thinking.
>>97433144they were thinking all the psudeo intellectual blue players would whale to get their better counterspell.and they were right as rain.
>>97433144it could damage you if you didn't have a use for all that mana
>>97433163Yeah, but Mana Burn got removed. Consequently, this card should be banned in every format since it's drawback was removed, making it severely overpowered. But I guess, JotC instead made it another carrot in a stick.
Hi /mtg/, I'm a total noob wanting to start playing casual commander with friends. Some are using precons with no changes yet (final fantasy counter blitz, 40k Tyranid one, etc) and one is using a custom deck based on isshin, two heavens as one (the deck is probably worth about £100-150 and hasn't seemed oppressive when we've played against it so far). I don't know much about power levels etc and don't want to be a cheese lord - any chance a kind anon would review a decklist I've put together and given me some frank feedback if anything in it is considered OP, etc? I want to play an aura/equipment deck using galea, kindler of hope as commander and would like to know if I need to tone it down and put in some cards from the unmodified aura of courage precon, etc.Decklist on moxfield is here:https://moxfield.com/decks/rDZTAtOwyEKb-xoJrIpVbAThanks in advance and obviously tell me to fuck off if you prefer
>>97433117Pork ay no lose dose?
>>97432571My Illusion deck would surprise the fuck out of you lol.
>>97433201It's banned in Legacy, which is basically the strongest format you can be banned in for power.
Is someone baking? I've never made a thread but I'll make one if noone else wants to.
>>97433442make it so, mr. anon.
