You might pick up something that was going to get absolutely annihilated turn one because you made a mistake and put it into strat reserves or just dump it on the other side of the table, but for most armies starting in cover and spread out is good enough deployment and all the anti vehicle / monster killing stuff is usually long range (with the exception of meltas) so they can pick their target most of the time anyway.
