No, it's Steve. And he's not a viking or a furry, either. He's from Boston.

In my dream, he was back on Earth for a little bit (not Terra, like normal modern day Earth), and I was ribbing him for dicking around in the Warp all the time instead of leading his legion. There was also a successor chapter of Space Wolves that were green and themed themselves after bears because they're the one thing in the forest that can kill a wolf. They were still obsessed with wolves, though.

Bigger question, why does it have to be on a power first in the first place? Old chainfists were more like Cataphractii ones with just a wrist mounted chain blade without the power fist part. Wish we had more of those.

This isn't the hobby for you if you're blind to large differences in detail
>>
>>97598417
your fundamentals are already good - painting within the lines, color choice, etc. Not perfect but no one would expect you to be.

I'd start experimenting with washes and dry brushing next to create some nice light and shadow. There's easy to do and have a dramatic impact. That's what makes the minis looks less like toys and more like models.
>>
>>97598522
>large differences
Oh sorry they removed some detail and added some cad slop assets that are visible on pretty much every other model as “war” trophies to their detailing. Yes large detail differences. Oh…I just fucking love fur on my 18573th chaos minature it’s absolutely not overdone.

Yeah I think it's pretty evenly distributed other than Custodes players. Like last tournament I ran a Black Templars player got pretty heated, like banging the table, when he rolled 3 snake eyes in a row on battle shock tests which basically lost him the game. He apologized afterwards so things are cool, but I don't think there's an epidemic of Black Templars players raging out, it's just this one guy has a temper. Custodes players, on the other hand, have a pattern of shitty behavior. They think they're entitled to an advantage and therefore a win.

I agree, and I think its because they were the "budget" faction for a long time, so they attracted a lot of MTG manchildren.

The custodes guy in my LGS had the gall to actually complain about his army not getting bolter discipline last edition, and was genuinely surprised his index detachment got hammered this edition when it was possible to give just about every infantry unit in his army fights first, for free.

I used to love playing BFG. We didnt bother with throwing a fortune at GW for expensive and difficult to find models though, we just used top down counters, printing off what we needed for each game or campaign. Fuck that retarded shop showroom attitude of "you can only use official products!" bollocks. We also modded the game to use neutonian movement so they moved more like spaceships would in space, not retarded 18th century sailing ship movement - "You switched off your engine so your ship suddenly stops, duuh".

Most GW games are pretty stupid and childish, but can be made more fun with a bit of modification.

>>
>>97599065
Oh true, I guess a solid starting point is to what extent you treat the madness of pyskers reaching in the realms of either.
A big part of some of Lovecraft's horror is characters getting a glimpse into a higher plane and having a glimpse of understanding it, before it's taken away and then that person trying to deal with the fact they have this knowledge and trying, e.g an ant understanding humans for a bit, then going back to being an ant.
You've got psykers reaching into the hive Mind and being driven mad/exploding due to the trillions of voices that they hear, with characters of strong will like Tigurius being forever haunted by their time looking into such an abyss.
Chaos, especially the pantheon of tzeentch is also like this, you have characters driven mad trying to comprehend the improhendable, but given its nature characters with such force of will can bend it to not succumb to it's madness.

Why do we even need a model for this? We already have models for officers in all armour types they can just make rules for different ranks like before. Or even better, add actually interesting HQs like 30k had with consuls. I'd rather have a moritat, a praevian to add some admech robots or a master of signals or siegebreaker than yet another copypaste basic officer with rerolls or lethal hits.

>>97597749
That'c contingent on what your normal paint scheme is. If you're painting a very warm army, you need to go for an almost grey blue or it's going to look super out of place and ugly. If your scheme is cool and bright already, you can go for a very intense blue. You want contrast but not discordance with the marine specialist armors.

Think of your color scheme as looking something like this red circle, with it touching the edge of the wheel wherever your primary color is. If you're painting the scheme shown here, with kind of a lime green chief color, you can go as intense as you want there, and pretty intense with your reds and greens without running into ugliness, but as you get around to blue and purple you have to be very careful, because anything you paint with a blue outside that boundary will draw the eye instantly. This can be useful (with something like eye lenses, or something you really want to be a focus point), but it can work against you if you do it stupidly on a detail that isn't a focal point, or a whole model that then overshadows the army as a whole.

It'd be incredibly unlikely but not implausible, essential a recruit would have to go through the selection process, not be implanted with geneseed while on nocturne, and never actually visit nocturne to receive the the excessive radiation that salamders get that causes that gland to freak out and cause their skin to become get black.

>>97599260
Remember to slip slop slap, and also to use zinc based sunscreen since thats the only stuff that actually works
>>
>>97599258
Slamanders aren't born jet black. Once they become a marine their genesees reacts with Nocturne's sun to turn them black with red eyes. If a particular salamander somehow hasn't been to Nocturne yet they will keep their original skintone and eye colour.
>>
>>97599263
It's kind of dumb dark pacts literally kill 10000 year old warriors every time they shoot their guns, so my headcannon is that it just represents them going KILL MAIM BURN! and doing more damage as a result, but as a result of lapsing discipline guys running off to follow their chaotic whims of torturing wounded enemies, running off to kill civilians, or otherwise doing things that are useless for the actual battle.

>>97599258
The black salamanders thing was like a like 2000s change iirc, early on they were just guys that liked flamer weapons without much other gimmick.
>>
>>97599076
>all those dreads
Did you get your shit pushed in?
>>
>>97599258
Salamanders coal black skin is a mutation in their melanchromic organ, it's basically mutated in a way where the said organ just never "turns off" once it does get activated. It's an organ that protects space marines from harmful radiation by darkening their skin to absorb the radiation, kinda like how melanin works against UV radiation.

Every space marine can theoretically turn coal black and look like a Salamander, however they'd over time return to their regular skin color. Unlike Salamanders who can't because their organ is defective and just never turns off.

And before somebody says it, the red eyes Salamanders have aren't tied to the Melanchromic mutation, it's just a mutation that is inherently specific to them. It's called "fire-sight" which lets them see infra-red radiation and heat sources. Kind of like a snake.

>>97599335
That's for active DW marines. Returnees switch the DW pauldron to the right side, as now their own chapter heraldry takes precedence. The left pauldron is more important because that's the one facing the enemy when a marine is shooting his bolter.
>>
>>97599340
All imperial ships look exactly the same.
>>
>>97599335
Also when it comes to the DW pauldron, once marines are out of the DW and return to their chapters, the ones who decide to take the pauldron as a memento can choose to wear it on either side depending on their preference.
Some of them don't even wear one at all, like Uriel Ventris, instead he has the Ordo Xenos symbol on his left leg plate.
Titus is another and he does have his DW pauldron in his quarters, but instead he decides to just wear a simple Ordo Xenos symbol on the chain on his right arm.

30 years worth of autistic minutia is one of the unique parts of 40k. I personally very much enjoy the fact that just by noticing that a black templar's fist is painted a different color you can reasonably infer his age and experience.
>>
>>97599659
There specifically isn't any specific meanings to DW pauldrons in-universe.
The marines can literally wear them however they fucking please, some just entirely ditch the thing and use a small trinket to show they served in the Deathwatch, like Titus and Uriel, some don't even do that because they don't care to show it off.
>>
>>97599697
>There specifically isn't any specific meanings to DW pauldrons in-universe.
You really gonna say that with confidence just because you know people probably aren't going to easily find a small blurb in 30 years worth of rule books?
>>
>>97599652
>>
>>97599697
I'm not saying that there is an in-universe rule that literally every single DW returnee MUST, by the decree of the Emperor Himself, wear his DW pauldron on the right side.
I'm saying that from the following established facts of the setting it makes sense for them to do so.
1. The left pauldron is more important because it is the one typically facing the enemy. Chapter icon goes on the left one so that the enemy sees who killed them. It's a declaration of identity and allegiance.
2. Marines switch their chapter icon to the right when joining DW because during their tour of duty they are serving DW first, and their chapter second.
3. Only symbols more important that the chapter icon go on the left (or ones that have historical meaning, like the studded one). Crux Terminatus for termies for example.
>>
>>97599652
You are not a good person.
>>
>>97599659
Agreed if you're painting ultramarines or some other force that cleaves super closely to all the autistic rules that have been explicitly shown, but if you're painting an obscure chapter or your own chapter, do whatever you like, marines have all sorts of traditions and degrees of heraldry autism. The only thing I really find actually annoying is when people just do some blatantly retarded shit like blue orks or pink custodes, or conspicuous real world references.
