>>97661689But if you tell anyone about your backstory outside of names or slight details you're also in the wrong hobby.
>>97661669>TQ You mean like your dudes? Yeah my loyalist T sons i formulated a lot more lore for then my DA
>>97661669>TQ/yourdudes/ are cringe af.Heresy is a sci-fi historical. Study it, find a piece of the setting + a character you like, and play that.
>>97661715You can do both anon, legions are very big things.
>>97661705Correct. The only instance you tell it to someone is if they specifically ask you in person for the entire lore of /yourdudes/ - which basically never happens.

The concept of the Horus heresy is a son betraying his father.Have you ever seen anything like this irl? It could be anything from a young lion eating an old lion, dictator being usurped by his son, or even something like testifying against your father in court the reason other than being a spineless bootlicker?Curious what real world parallels or inspirations could be drawn

There never were any alternative colour schemes for the Iron Hands in the Heresy, were there? I don't like black armour but quite enjoy their lore :( if I ever played Marines in 40k I'd want to do the Sons of Medusa or something to keep the kino IH lore but ditch the black.Know of any canon examples of non-dark armoured IH in Heresy?Yes I know I can make up my own, if I was going to I wouldn't be asking :3

>>97663155The HQ black book lore PDFs really are a rare act of generosity from GW. Still baffling that we're getting these for free, instead of GW doing a re-print or digital release through BL that costs and arm and a leg.
>>97663192I wouldn't have minded forking over some cash for a leatherbound book 6 without anything missing but this isn't something they do anymore. That being said this is great and was wondering when they would drop the Bodt pdf the moment they started making these.

How's that for a blackshield's aquila?
>>97662145other than the old oil-sheen iridescence that FW used to do?you could probably get away with very dark rust; the IH sections of Massacre feature white/silver as highlights on the examples, particularly on the vehicles (tho one legionary in particular looks a lot more dark metal than black); the Inductii heraldry (what little official art of it there was) had silver helms as well I think, which is at least not all-blackif you're going to run them as Shattered Legions you can start introducing colors from the other SL in your force to tie everything together visually (as long as you're making it clear which actual scheme is which Legion); you could even go fully insane, paint them extremely dark red/metallic rust, slap the Clan Morragul symbol on them and do moon crimeyou want to go absolutely fucking nuts? quartered black-with-blue-highlight (like an old comic book highlight - think Spider-Man's original black costume) and red-rust and call them Brazen Claws; going for the bright 40k heraldry is probably going too far (tho they are Your Dudes), but something more subtle, if you can be bothered, would be fucking incredible

I am still unreasonably mad that every single Titan-centric story in the HH novel series ended up being so terrible, even by the already subterranean cthonic standards of BL writing. How do you fuck up the basic concept of "giant robots fight giant robots?"
>>97663774Who?
>>97663776Obviously they never watched gundam
>>97663776I'm still upset Mortis not only was one of the most boring, terrible novels of the entire series, but it also had the worst titan combat and not even a single sentence from the perspective of Legio Mortis.
>>97663825Titandeath was 400 pages and the actual titandeath was like three chapters, one of which was about Sanguinius. The FemC's impregnation, pregnancy, and birth recieved as much attention as the largest titan combat of the war.
Why do the warhound sprues in the LI starter set have 2 identical sets of loyalist and traitor heads with the exception of having only 1 of the chin piece per titan? and why was it that piece that went flying off and made me spend 20 minutes searching for it. >>97664093Titandeath is boring filler material that barely has any Titan death. Mortis is boring filler material that doesn't feature any scenes from a Legio Mortis crew's POV. It also completely wasted the Ordo Sinister. All that buildup and mystery from the tabletop game rulebooks, only for their novel debut to be a couple pages of a psi-titan standing around, accomplishing fuck-all, then getting smoked by Warmaster Titans.Maybe I'm a crazy person, but I'm also tired of Imperator Titans existing for the sole purpose of dying horribly.
>>97664158What would you have liked it to be? I wonder if the Kill Horus titan show satisfies people
Starting to put together my World Eaters veteran breacher squad. How are we feeling about melee loadouts with the unit? I'm just glad I can finally make Triarii work.
>>97664275More Titan fights, less meatbag drama. More scenes from the perspective of different Titan crews, both loyalist and traitor. More autistic technobabble, especially for the Ordo Sinister tech. Abnett's Titanicus wasn't perfect, but it did a better job of writing Titan combat in the crew chatter, weapon/tech babble, and grand strategy. It would have been cool to read about Titan crews riding heat curves and managing weapon range brackets, Techpriests juggling power distribution and reorienting shields, Imperator principes managing fire missions for battlefields multiple kilometers away, grand Titan formations shifting across intercontinental theaters on what should be grimdark planetary wars. Basically, Red Storm Rising but the pregnancy is replaced by giant robots.
>>97664275Not having titans constantly job to the nearest Primarch.
>>97664283Hard to go wrong with veteran breachers. Only mistake is loading them up with too many upgrades I think, they only got a 3+ armour save at the end of the day.
>>97664283love the look. what did you use for the rod of the spear?
>>97664275Kill Lupercal was great. Short and sweet, just pure flavor.>>97664328How about some FUCKING secutarii being mentioned, for once, instead of titans suddenly spawning lascannon point defense turrets fucking everywhere they aren't on the goddamn models. How about authors that actually looked at the fucking models before writing a dozen first drafts and assembling them into a book? Here's the thing that bothers me so much about BL and why it really is just slop. You have a setting with mortal soldiers, super soldiers, magic soldiers, tanks, giant mechs, space ships, and the entire series is just G.I. Joe with space wizards. There's no claustrophobic stories of tank commanders, there's no pilots, what little there is about titan crews is them just sitting around, there's no Star Trek Enterprise to have a cast of the crew of a spaceship and how complicated it is to operate them, eight bazillion novels and it's all just Joe-Schmoe on the ground with a sword. Even all the politicking of titan legions just gets balled up and ignored in the corner so you can have a chapter about having a tea kettle in the titan's head unit.Even the blasphemous possession of titans by demons was just because a princeps had a hissy fit and decided to stick one in and then it grew a tail and that was IT.
>>97664429The saddest thing about the setting will always be how much limitless potential it has, and GW's complete and utter lack of being able to fully utilise it.
>>97663998It’s pretty common in the military for soldiers to wear patches or get tattoos as well as other signifiers of their specific company, you could probably paint an arm or kneepad red and yellow, maybe having the Howling Griffon’s symbol as a secondary symbol to the Ultramarine heraldry.
>>97664429Secutarii get a fair shake in Betrayer but I can't think of anywhere else in HH which is a shame because they are unreasonably cool. Helsreach also features them which I think gets to the point since since 2014 knights and robots have usurped and stolen their role as titan support units and GW will always feature an expensive knight model over a fluffy and cool Secutarii they barely have models for. Even in Ligma a game where having titans and secutarii fighting together would be perfect in both fluff and gameplay (to paraphrase the greatest Russian military thinker of M2 "Titan Legions are commanded by total idiots; you send in the secutarii first, then the god engines") what native support units do they have:>thallaxii>4 flavours of cybernetica robots>tech thrall blobs with laslocks. What they don't have:>SecutariiIf you want something akin to Secutarii you'd need to use an Auxillia or Skittari allies formation and shoot any tourneyfags who complain about violating the rules on allied units dead on the spot.
>>97664383Yeah, they're definitely a points sink. Giving half the squad just chainaxes, but it's still pretty pricey.>>97664402Just a length of brass rod - simple, but effective. I'm going to have to put something on the butt of the spear and around the haft to make it look more like a convincing power weapon, but as a proof of concept I'm pretty happy with it. Are Blackshield Seekers the best unit in the game?I can make them BS6 with The Flesh Is Weak and allied Cybertheurgy, which means they'll be firing 20 bolt shots each phase that hit on a 2+ (with 6 autowounding), wound on a 4+ and ignore saves due to Breaching 4+, for an average of 10 dead tacticals. You can do the same with the traitor prime benefit, but with Blackshields you can spam them because EVERY Seeker unit is eligible for Cybertheurgy rather than requiring a prime slot AND you can use Pride Is Our Armour to turn all your troops slots into elites. Giving you a list of nothing but Seekers, Tech-Priests and whatever command tax + AT you need.

>>97665289your las sections are your Line, so you need them for scoring; you improve them with Line Command Sections (you will need more than one to keep your scoring going all game, otherwise when one goes down or is out of range, all your scoring drops)you can get some fast scoring by adding an Infantry Tercio Detachment and putting a Hermes squad in it; you'll need an (allied) unit with a command vox relay, but you can charge forward (potentially scoring VP for Vanguard, but don't count on it) then switch the Hermes from Vanguard (2) to Line (1) which becomes Line (2) with a Line Command Section in 18" if the Hermes has Infantry Tercio from being taken in the Infantry Tercio Detachment (the tanks in that detachment get it too, but they can never score)Cohort Doctrines just unlock free Detachments now (without requiring additional Command choices) so although Ultima is tempting for the free Reaction, Veletaris is a good one for bundling out of transports and hacking a bitch up, Mechanised ups your DPS, and Siege Pattern is god mode on your Basilisks and Medusas - Pinning (3) on the Medusas will let your lasrifles stroll up to the objective while the enemy is cowering in their own filthso you'll always need some but it depends on your playstyle, unless you want Iron Pattern, then you can use them as screening chaff and run robots with tech-priests to cap the objectives, though that does limit the priests to the basic three Cybertheurgic Rites (and the Heterodox rites)
>>97665782>Veletaris is a good one for bundling out of transports and hacking a bitch upIt's not, actually, because all it does it let them Volley Attack before charging and Veletari have 1-2 ranged weapons (a Frag Grenade and the Prime's pistol if he took the Tabar)

Dan Abnett had easy to read prose, writing engaging moment to moment scenes. but I feel like he wasted a lot of time. I didn’t think there needed to be that many chapters dedicated to nothing else but describing things blowing up. The Ollanius Persson chapters genuinely did not feel like they added anything to the book, wasting more pages. The details on how the Ultramarines mounted a resistance and regained a sense of control over the situation was neat, but felt sort of glossed over and not given enough time, and I’d blame the chapters about Persson the most for wasting time since at least the excessive descriptions about things blowing up were actually about the Battle of Calth.

good day lads
I i did some stupid shit. I've been a collector for a while and I've ended up buying and painting versus emperors children character models, including fulgrim transfigured, Lucy, the terminator and power armour praetor and an overseer in EC colours.I have however no idea on how to actually start a hereticus EC army. What troops should I get? How do I an army out of this?
>>97667202I liked that book
>>97667363Well, you need a 3000+ point army to field Fulgrim.Since you have an overseer, there's no reason not to field at least a squad of auxilia beside them. At least 1 box of tacticals split into 2x10-man squads would be a good idea, and two rhinos. Otherwise it's a matter of what appeals to you.
>windy so spraying is a pain>humid due to storm coming through so spraying wouldn’t be a good idea regardlessDoes anyone have experience with paint on varnish? My guys are a singular step before being finished lmao.
>>97667363Melee units to start. EC does their best in melee, especially on the charge. So some despoilers and a unit or 2 of palatine blades to drive enemies off objectives and get vanguard points. Get sonic shriekers for your palatine blades to keep enemies from overwatching, countercharging, or otherwise reacting to their charges.I recommended despoilers because when they get shot you can make them stupefied. Stupefied gives them +1 strength, 6+ FNP, and no tactical statuses, but all shots are snap shots. This helps despoilers/palatines make their charges. You said you have Fulgrim Transfigured and a few praetors? Good. You can take the Brotherhood of the Phoenix detachment. Sprinkle your sonic shrieker praetors with your despoilers to protect them when you charge. It's pricey but you're playing EC. Lean into it and be excessive. Then invest in some way to get your screamers up to the front lines. Land raiders or rhinos, depends on your local meta or how hard you think you'll be shot at. LRs are tougher but rhinos are faster. Now for shooting. Kakophoni are a great way to stun enemies so you can charge safely (remember EC always want to be in melee), but skip if you want pure damage. Invest in lascannon support squads (or lascannon land raiders) to deal with enemy armor. Skip the sun killers. As >>97667481 said, add some auxillia lasrifle sections to get more Line units. They can hold the backline while your despoilers take the frontline.>Disclaimer: I am a dumbass who knows nothing. If you take this advice and lose that's your problem not mine.

>my super blue bottle glued itself shutThis keeps happening. Good thing I’ve got no resin models that need it, but this is a real pain.
>>97668657I would hate to put despoilers in a Rhino only for them to lack a trait when they charge out of it. And then the benefit is frowned upon by other players and called overpowered? That makes using Rhinos WAAC. That's bad
>>97669075Get small tube pilled.
>>97669133Yeah but the thing is, if you are charging your dispoilers into the proper targets, that bonus does not really matter that much. If you are slinging a 10 man dispoiler squad, with sgt having paired lightening claws, and then like 2 spears or what ever power weapons you want, into say a tactical squad? You are gonna murderize that tactical squad.Rhinos are not OP, but if you combo shit right, it can really throw people out for a loop, but Their power legit is based upon what your table looks like. If you are able to hide your rhino? Its VERY strong, because it gives a very large threat range for what ever you are packing. For example if i stuff a 10 man vet breacher squad with 4 las cutters into a rhino and keep that rhino out of LOS of threats, that thing has a threat range of:Rhino movemnt + Vet breacher movement + Range of weapons, which is a LOT of area of denial or threat. Same with dispoilers. Now if you cant hide that rhino? Its a lot less powerful now. Either way though being able to move a vehicle its full movement, AND jump out of it and move the unit inside, AND charge, is fucking nuts but fun.

They are even less than Ultramarine Despoilers, who have no synergy about them.Emperor's Children are a melee legion, yet I can't make Despoilers work for them, since I refuse to have them walk (that's for commoners).I was doing math for EC Inductii and they're amazingly bad. Imagine paying +30 pts to be able to do 0.3 FEWER wounds, no longer be able to get a Vexilla (super important in 3.0), and get a rule for better bravery in the shooting phase...at the cost of -1Ld and worse bravery in a melee.I can avoid exposing them in the shooting phase at all already. Tried one of the new Relic Hunt missions yesterday, they seem quite an improvement over the core missions from the main rulebook. >>97671085Im not going to stupefy them. They aren't necessarily loyalists, but the goal is for them to be Emperor's Children as paragons, not as degenerates.>probability =/= statsI'm not calculating probabilities, I'm calculating Average Damage. If your average is low, then it means you'll need to roll good in order to win. But if the average is high, then even an unlikely bad roll will still be sufficient.Do all the math you wish and you'll see two power mauls and a Twin Claws Sergeant are better than two power mauls and eight charnabal sabres, and cheaper to boot, and with access to a vexilla on top of that.Seeing they get a power weapon every 4 instead of every 5 (to account for their lack of sergeant), they are at their best at 12, 16 and 20. Though higher numbers may do even better as they go killing more enemy despoilers before they get to strike.Conversely , EC Inductii may be at their weakest at, guess what, 10 lmao. But yeah, I swear by Average Damage, it's unironically very informative. Many times I've rolled and I get +/-1 of the Average Damage and go "as expected".
>>97671021Oh that’s cute, where’s this from?
Why is Uranus so spikey?
>>97671394kek
>>97671394It's a self-defence feature. Like with some species of sea cucumbers, who have teeth in their anus as a deterrent to parasites and eels using their rear end as a hiding spot.

>>97671664Pretty models anon
>Kino sea battle heavy warWhy do the cool conflicts never get expanded upon?
>>97671259The only good part of the kit.
>>97671955Because the cool battles that get expanded upon get turned into retarded drivel.>See: Siege of Terra, fight between Emperor and Horus, Isstvan V, Beta-Garmon, etc...The old lore todbits about what are now extensively expanded upon battles and fights are always so much more cool and interesting.
>>97671955This does sound pretty neat honestly. But >>97671980 is right, often the best parts of the setting are these small pieces of lore rather than the super detailed, heavily expanded upon campaigns.
>>97671980so true we will never get FW black boobs again
>>97671999>FW black boobs>Black boobs>BoobsAnother Freudian slip, ADB?
>>97672041Boobs been on my mind, I meant books. ADB is a retard fag.
>>97671955>seaborne aircraft carriers>White Scars vs. Alpha Legion Top GunGoddamn, that's sick.
>>976707103rd Heresy, you obtuse mongoloid.
>>97671955What's the deal with that? Are the space marines just carting around oceanic ships and carriers on their interstellar ships and carriers in case they need them or something?
>>97671955>Aircraft carriers>Assaulting Oil Rigs>Major focus on air wars, which we never really get>Alpha Legion That is fucKING SICK!
I remember an old lore tidbit about Terminator armor replacing regular power armor and it was hard believing looking at Indomitus pattern armor, but building the Cataphractii kit, this just a regular suit of armor with huge Pauldrons, it’s very believable.
>>97671522>didn’t escape Calth>forced to fight a major underground war in the caverns of Calth until the Heresy was overI’m surprised he got a newer mini over Thiel, though I suppose it’s in the name.
>>97672523Calth is a pretty kino part of the Heresy. Has anyone ever based their army/board around the Underground War?
>>97672332>Are the space marines just carting around oceanic shipsUh they're Battle BARGES, anon ;^)
>>97672561I adore how silly this was lmfao
>>97672253Hey man the WS and the Khan are based af you kike
>>97672546it would be dark
>>97672601>it would be darkGrim, perhaps?
Based or cringe, that is the question.
>>97672631I legit love this scene as much as I hate it. Amazingly awful. Awfully amazing.
>>97672631Cringe, making primarchs unkillable gods at every scale of battle is gay. They should be invincible on an infantry scale, punked out on a main battle tank scale, and their personal impact should be negligible by the time you hit superheavies let alone titans. Maybe if it was holding back a land raider from running him over instead.
>>97672709even though I play Loyalists I like the idea of Dorn dying to basic cultists because it conclusively shows that Primarchs aren't actually invincible to mortals and you can't pull a "he actually wanted it" like with Curze.
When are we getting a proper Rogal Dorn with his iconic Soulspear?
>>97672546I haven’t read the story where they go over it, but I imagine you can’t do much in the way of tank battles or heavy weapons in underground arcology. I suppose if it’s DAoT bullshit construction they could.
>>97672850The book makes it clear some places are big enough for tanks, Dreads etc to be used during fights but I imagine if >>97672546 wanted to represent the Underworld War he'd be better served using Zone Mortalis.
>>97672631Based
>>97672631based>>97671955kino
>>97672812Pictured, Rogal and the soulspear
>>97671379Like it or not, Stupefy serves a rhino unit better than Flawless execution, as it can be activated on any "shooting attack", like volley fire. So, your enemy will simply not risk firing shots of opportunity at your melee units.Sounds like a win?
>>97670811But do you paint them black or simply an intensely dark gunmetal? : )
>>97672469It makes more sense under the context of the Legions facing almost exclusively inferior arms that get noped so hard by terminator armor that mobility stops being an issue/requisite. Stops being a good idea when your primary opponent becomes other Astartes
>>97671955Think they had submarine operations? It’s cool switching up futuristic space naval warfare for good old fashioned open sea naval battles.>>97672469Tbf the current cataphractii kit has been widely criticized for being way too lanky and not the brick shithouse it was meant to be. A more reasonable comparison would be tartaros and mkIV maximus armor imo.
>>97673363I like to think Dorn getting fileted by cultists was orchestrated by Omegon in revenge of this
>>97672469Indomitus was designed to be easier to produce compared to the other terminator armours. The main reason it exists is because of the incredible high attrition during the Horus Heresy, indomitus was meant to only be temporary.Tartaros terminator armour clearly was meant to become the replacement of power armour. It offers close to the same protection of heavier terminator armour like cataphractii or indomitus, whilst still allowing the wearer close to the same freedom of movement as power armour. The new cataphractii kit is not actual terminator armour. It's as you said, only a regular suit of power armour with big pauldrons. Which is why it's straight up an objective downgrade in all aspects from the old plastic cataphracii terminators. Yet GW thinks they can charge even more for less, worse models. It's a sick joke.
>>97673910>The new cataphractii kit is not actual terminator armour.don't do me like this anonwhat would compel you to say something so cutting beyond its actually being so oh my god it's so fucked
>>97673936The truth hurts, and staying silent or pretending otherwise won't change it.
>>97672631Cringe
>>97673815The kit’s torso is where I really noticed it. There’s three bundles of cables(?) that run under the chest plate that you can see on the stomach that I recognized from the midhammer Tactical Squad torsos. Structurally, it’s like they took a Mk VIII chest plate and fused it with the power pack to create an outer shell look, and it’s not until the arms are glued on that it really “becomes” a Terminator. I like them because it’s a new kind of big dude, but design wise it feels like more of a proto-type pattern rather than a branch of armor pattern cut by war time shortages.
>>97673910I never gave Tartaros Terminator a proper look over, but looking at them now, they definitely deliver on the “Tactical Dreadnought” name, they look like little Contemptor Dreads by sharing all those design cues. The roundness too helps them feel more connected to the later Indomitus pattern. I should get a box of Tartaros armor too…..
