How come Hasbro doesn't take the easy road have a 1/year community design set for Commander? It doesn't have to be big, 1-2 commanders per color pairing, maybe a couple of sorely needed/extremely popular cards but set up a site where the community can submit some commander ideas and we all collectively vote on the ones we like - and the ones that become the most popular/interesting get official prints? Surely the collective brain power of the player base can produce better concepts than the burnt out design team can, it's free so Hasbro doesn't have to pay anyone, it's giving the community what they literally want, and it would generate a lot of goodwill that Hasbro has burnt and might even reinvigorate the community's passion somewhat.I don't get why they don't. My store cant get enough spiderman. They tried to order more but apparently were sold out. They maxxed out 6 pre release events back when it happened and had to turn away a few kids at the door after begging one of the players to drop and allow the kids to enter. They had huge draft attendance the entire month and the whole store seemed to agree it was one of if not the best limited environment of all time. There are 3 people with Cosmic Spiderman decks who are still fighting over spiderman cards to complete their list. Mark may not be 100% honest about some things, but Spiderman probably was one of the best received sets of all time.

Dreams of the Dead here's a card I've had for 20 years and have always wanted to make it work, I built a commander deck for it 3 or 4 years ago to fulfill the fantasy. I LOVE board wipes and mass land destruction, and Jokulhaups was my favorite for all these years. Doomgape was the first giant monster creature I pulled in a booster pack and was the flagship card in my Tar Fiend 60 card deck I also played for years. I have a foil 10th edition Serra Angel that is just absolutely beautiful, immaculate foiling and, in that set, foil versions of cards didn't have reminder text so it's just so incredible to look at. Inkwell Leviathan got me to start playing esper artifacts during Alara block and I absolutely adore him, I still run him today in my Sharuum EDH deck. Wall of Denial showed me how fun defensive control decks could be, even today it's a pretty great card for what it is. Dralnu was my second EDH deck and has so much style and swagger that I never took him apart. The drawback is insane but it makes pulling off a win feel so much more satisfying. There have been almost strictly better versions of his effect printed on newer commanders (like Kess), but there's a lot of technical stuff you can do with Dralnu (switching control of him to an opponent, tap/untap shenanigans) that still make him compelling. His art is also just incredible.

A friend of mine upgraded his old shrines deck with this and it's completely ridiculous now. He doesn't even run all that many shrines, just incredibly backbreaking ones that fuck up everyone else or generate assloads of value. The rest of the deck is blink for the panda and spot removal. Gotten my shit rocked by this deck 4 weeks in a row at game night while trying to kill him first. His Go-Shintai deck was a joke but this thing just rapes us every friday night.

Most of the new designs are unusable trash like Urianger and Krile, the backup commander G'raha is interesting for about two turns before you just fucking die from the life cost on his effect, but then you get cards like Lyse and Ardbert who feel accidentally strong but only if you build them as separate decks. None of the other FF decks are this sloppy. Even the FF6 deck doesn't feel out of place for that year's precons with the whole box supporting Terra (as bad as that is) with Celes being the best card in-theme but even better when built around.
there are so many awesome monoblack enchantments but practically zero payoffs for building a monoblack deck that leans into having a lot of enchantments. most of the decent payoffs require you to lose an enchantment, either from someone destroying it or sacrificing it. but there isn't any way to reanimate your enchantments, so focusing on intentionally playing and then blowing up your own stuff makes no sense. especially when the coolest enchantments are the ones that you'd rather keep around. doomwake is the strongest direct reward and it seems pretty shit if you aren't trying to play several enchantments in a single turn.
