>TQI dont really care its just a game dude whats your problem?>MyQHow many lands should i play in grixis if i have 5 mana rocks?
>>9771821135
>>97718211What's your average cmc? If you have a proper mana curve (2.xx - 4.00 cmc) you need at least 37 lands. Untapped rocks that are 2 or less mana account for roughly .5 of a land so theoretically if you need 37 lands and have 5 rocks you could run 35 lands and are mathematically unlikely to be mana screwed but you're right on the borderline. In general I would argue against replacing lands with rocks. Ramp in general is declining in importance as the cost of good cards keeps getting lower while we're steadily getting good new lands that can color fix and come untapped.

what can I do about players in my pod who use ai to build decks?
>>97718420Laugh at them? AI is a tool of idiots.
>>97718420Some people can't draw, and its a skill that takes years to hone. So I can't begrudge people using AI as a brush too much.Using AI to build you a deck isn't the same. You have the ability to read and see synergies on cards. That's just lazy. Deck building is a low skill floor.
>>97718460You laugh but a lot of people find it very hard to consistently win a pvp game like mtg
>>97718431>>97718460True, but I want them to be better. I'm tired of cards like purphoros, god of the forge showing up in every deck that has access to red because some machine thinks it will be efficient to do so.
Commanders with this feel?
>>97718501I have no fucking clue what that feel is
>>97718501This is too lewd for wotc
>play at Lorwyn Draft a few weeks ago>go into UB faeries like a retard>have a decent number of counterspells in my deck even though that's usually awful in draft>whatever, I came to have fun>go against elves player>every time he plays something he asks me "does it resolve?">I say yeah no problem>this continue>I appreciate he is playing properly>however he still asks this when I only have a single black mana untapped>then he asks it while I am fully tapped out with a single creature on boardI wanted to say "dude there is no Force of Will in Lorwyn Eclipsed what the hell are you doing?"He was a really nice guy I would have had a beer with him and all that and we chatted after the games but that irrationally triggered my autism.
>>97718543Probably just out of habit from playing against blue bullshit in the past dude.
>>97718501Sergeant John Benton and just use one of those stills as a proxy
>>97718200>TQBecause I've never actually played against any mono blue decks. Even then, it doesn't matter.>>97718211Depends on the commander. 35 generally is my ballpark. 36 if it really needs mana. But I never use more or less than 10 rocks.>>97718420What's the problem with that? I'd argue netdecking is worse. AI at least doesn't do a very good job of optimizing. Either way, gotta start somewhere. Once they actually play with their AI decks, they'll eventually (and hopefully) learn why a card is good and why a card is bad. I'd say around when they finally figure out why Swords to Plowshares is good despite giving opponents life, that's when they're starting to learn.>>97718501When they drop the NieR:Automata™ UB set, A2 or 2B will be the best commanders for that feel.>>97718543I generally do this, just to make sure other players don't forget they have something to counter resolve things. My friends sometimes forget that there's even a stack and how it even works. So I try to help them remember there's more layers than just playing spells and tapping things at sorcery speeds.
>>97718501
Sol Ring should have the triggered ability: "Whenever you lose one or more life, do that many push-ups. If you can't, exile this permanent."
>>97718281Average cost is 3.1 my commander costs 5. My top end is 9 but is krang ultrom warlord but i plan to reanimate it not cast it. Im only replacing fabled passage and prismatic vista because i only play three basics. I have the fetchlands and seething landscape in.
>>97718601True. I can't think of any free counterspells in the past few years in new releases. I really doubt he was a legacy player. Maybe modern but modern meta has gotten so shifted the past 5 years I don't even remember what's available there anymore.

>>97720705I'm thinking of adding it into my more creature centric decks that happen to have Blue.Generic counters are better and I'm not dying for card draw, but as a general rule I don't like counterspelling shit unless it puts me behind like removal, stax pieces or other counter spells.I play at low power tables so there's no real need to prolong games by counterspelling shit that actually advances the game state with me having a couple of hard counters for when someone balls out a little too quickly for my tastes.
>>97720722In a just world Chains of Mephistopheles would be a 9 dollar card you throw into Nekusar or decks that want to punish draw.Instead it's 1000 dollars because of investoids.

>>97720784>You're just mad things cost money. No, I'm answering his question. There is no reason to have it in a deck other than tryharding. I think what's been starting to bother me more than crossover fatigue is the sheer volume of effects they put on the ready-made commanders. Pic related is a prime example, it would be seen as a quality commander even if it didn't have the partner select text.Like I feel like virtually every commander from pre-2016 is almost a dud card and if I want to keep up with the meta I either need to spend a dramatic amount of money of money/energy upgrading my 99, or I can just bite the bullet and switch my commander out for the latest FIRE commander in the same identity with like 3 different effects, but that takes away the nostalgia value.IDK, maybe I'm just outgrowing this format after playing for almost 20 years. Thanks for reading my blog
>>97721231>Like I feel like virtually every commander from pre-2016 is almost a dud cardPowercreep is what sells. This has been proven for like.. 20+ years across all things gaming. Gotta deal out the FOMO for the newest/shiniest/strongest new thing

>>97722817
>>97721231Yeah I completely agree with you. My araumi deck feels extremely power crept, if you have a commander that needs to tap to do anything, it feels too slow these days. They even power crept kinnan when they released Nadu, which I thought was impossible, but here we are

>>97723018it's also full of irrelevant instants and shit because it just pulls from decklists rather than using any algo that cares about etbs.there's a handful of creatures on there but nowhere near the amount there should, like where is inferno titan? overlord of mistmoors?

Without even looking at a decklist I can tell you people are probably using him as a shell for artifacts that have ETBs and LTBs. You disnt understand why that card was there, now you do. >>9772354910/10 deck
>>97723615>>97723618Sure, I'm making shitty youtube channel with my shitbrews and I have a whole script written up for four or five decks, including this one, but I can give you guys a tl;dr.There are a few goals with this deck. First, math. You will need to do math, a lot of very bullshit finicky math that involves stacking triggers. I think the best way to keep track are a few calculators or an excel sheet on your phone or laptop for everyone's sake. Play your mossy boy, cast scapeshift, add token doublers and bristly bill, bring back your lands with aftermath analyst, make legitimately a quadrillion noninfinite +1/+1 counters. So many that when someone says they're alpha striking with a billion/billion creature from their combo you trample over that bitch in a distinctly noninfinite way.Second, I wanted to make a deck without mana rocks. So I didnt run any. And I wanted to make a 5c deck, but I hate mana fixing, so I made a primarily green manabase for easy fixing. Then I smoothed out all the devotion of everything and play tested it until you have so that the deck is still efficient. Finally, there are no combos. Zero. No gamechangers. No land hate or denial or whatever, just as good solidly constructed deck within the requirements of bracket 2, but I could give a fuck about any of that, it was just a restriction.>>97723669Wut? >>97723695Clearly i meant mtg characters appearing in fornite and you got beaten by the chinese on that, mtg is just sad at this point
>>97723701There is a common sense limit. Lets say there's a pod with a bunch of noobs that have just gotten themselves a few precons and just sleeved them, they're excited to play (for argument's sake, lets say they all bought a FF precon each, somehow they were still on the shelves of your lgs). You sit down at that table, the quintessential bracket 2 table. Do you expect anyone at that table to have a good time? No, you fucking don't. You will run them over so fast and so brutally they'll never come back. That deck is not a bracket 2 deck.

I already was working with =IF($b$6, "yes),b10(b3+(b5*b4)),c7) for the multiplier toggle for multiple stacks with c7 being used if there is only a single stack (like kudzu and bill) but as I scaled hardened scales out, and suddenly there were multiple scaling if(AND)s with relative references, that's like a macro hell. >>97724853What's the problem with him again? Seems like lots of other ramp cards can get lands out just as fast or faster like Traverse the Outlands
>>97724853>>97724894Oh, two nonbasic lands. I see.

>>97724917Counterpoint, there are already multiple cards that do this.
>>97724943That's right
r&d has decided that putting two nonbasics on the battlefield is a 4-mana ability, but has never actually printed a card that does that. plus prime time is already a 6/6 trampler.

playing on MTGO trying to keep my main deck a bracket 3. the game changer list is so gay. chrome mox should not be a game changer. so now I have to choose between basic auto includes like chrome mox (a $2.5 tix/dollar card on MTGO) and more draw. My current 3 "game changers" are chrome mox, mana vault and rhystic study.my commander is 4rub so mana vault is useful but I wanted to put the One Ring in my deck (which is also only like $2.25 on MTGO). if I had more of these faggy "game changers" it will be a bracket 4 where I get curb stomped. I had to spend 11 bucks (really just traded a llanowar wastes for a red elemental blast) so strengthen the counter-counter offensive against shit like force of will and pact of negation. I have a serious counter spell package but no force of will because again "it's a game changer". so it's its either use my "GC" slots for counters and draw or move up a bracket and have to spend even more money which is stupid for digital cardboard. this commander is not fun to play against at lower bracket levels and I do generally like using all the asshole-tier stuff available in red blue black which is also gimped in lower brackets because countering everything in those brackets is poor sportsmanship. but in higher tiers its required. if I move it up to bracket 4 I can add in more stuff like vampiric tutor although, keep The One Ring and Rhystic Study (if either ever resolves) I dont have a copy of demonic tutor digitally though and I think its a requirement for higher tiers. thats one of the drawbacks of MTGO, its 1/20th the price of paper and you can play 24/7 without dealing with weirdos but for every break in price like Underground sea costing $12 or even Black Lotus being $42, fucking red elemental blast is $15. It's less than a $5 card IRL. force of will only being 12-15 tickets online is still a better deal than paper but paying more than 50¢ for counter spells is retarded.
>>97725574i think the question is why can't you let go of game changers entirely and just play at bracket 2 where you belong
>>97725590I love this anon. so vitriolic yet so right
I want to use this but I don't want to shuffle a lot. What deck should I build?
>>97725609Yup.>>97725574You seem to be upset cards cost money. Maybe try to improve?
>>97725590Getting my commander out on turn 4 or 5 generally wins the game for me and is unfun to play against in lower power levels.
>>97725625It’s rather that countering every counter is boring game play. Counters are useful tools but being like half the deck is stupid
i just want the bracket 3 decks disguised as lower to stay in their homogenous meta where they belong
>>97725646Bruh is this a serious question? They dont have free counterspells. No one is doing 4x force 4x daze, every single other counterspell is extremely telegraphed and counters are genuinely ass on edh unless they stop a game winning combo. Play silence or cavern of souls or some shit, think about it.
Any secret tech for this big boy?
>>97725636>too proud to play at bracket 2>too pussy to commit to cedhyou're going to have to learn to accept restrictions then, sorry to say but the world doesn't revolve around you and that as much as you hate to admit this gavin has final say on what is a GC or not
>>97725666well I didnt just recently add a cavern of souls. I hadn't played much since 2018 until last week so ive been coming up to speed. I had no idea what the fuck game changers were so my 2018 deck was "technically" a bracket 3 because it had a chrome mox even though it had no other "game changers". so building around these arbitrary rules made by tranny retards at WOTC who have no business defining anything to do with commander. that said the brackets are completely unenforced in MTGO and there is no way to verify that decks are enforcing the "game changer" list rules unlike banned lists. -like returning to see my cheepnis green black pauper infect deck now has banned cards in it, from gitaxian probe- it was really just an outlet for all the stupid shitty cards I hated from scars of mirrodin. but theres nothing that says "chrome mox is 1 of 3 game changers for a bracket 3 deck". and its an arbitrary and gay list. smothering tithe shouldn't be on there either. rhystic study is more broken because the sheer volume of cards AND because blue already gets good draw. white doesnt get draw worth a shit. next they're going to add Land Tax saying its unfair to play land ramp in white unless you path to exile your own creature. but the point is having to change your deck list (which I craft them all from hand no net deck faggy shit) to include literally 15 counter spells including red elemental blast and pyro blast, gainsay, etc
>>97725719>mtgo sucks, the rantyou're preaching to the choir here
>>97725719The answer is almost everyone ignores it, and if people are ignoring it, just play as you always did. And if anyone is lecturing you about brackets or getting mad, mostly ignore them.
>>97725733what ignore the brackets? thats what I originally intended to do but half the game listings have brackets and half dont. so joining a game that says its b2 or b3 with something more powerful like people playing cedh decks against bracket 3. which is a good test every once in awhile but not a good matchupI also should have added all these complaining posts are about 1v1 commander. I almost never play 4v4. its all 1v1 40 life commander on MTGO
>>97725719

>>97726094I personally consider budget to be the price of a precon with a forgiveness range of 30. The landbase might suck a bit more, so run more basics.
>>97726107Insane. >>97726108Equally insane. There are three tiers of budget: around $100 for a random pile of cardboard with a wincon, under $500 for a playable deck that cut a few corners on expensive cards, and around $2k for a top flight comp deck that skipped a few RL cards. 60 or 70 bucks? You're going to have a bad time from a structural perspective and the list doesnt function.
>>97726107nta but if I built a deck when the cards are cheap seizes to be budget if a card goes up just beacause retards realise late that a card is good?
>>97726123I mean to be fair, 3 of my decks started out cheap then ended up being expensive over time just from the same thing. So that's a valid point.
Arguing about budget is pointless unless you seperate Lands//The Rest Of The Deck. You can have a $20 pile of jank that costs $400 after lands, or a $1200 sweaty deck that's absolutely shit because it's all basics and taps.
>>97726133Or if you build monocolour. Either or.
>>97725691Helix PinnacleNemata grove guardianJade mageAnything you can piss mana into
>>97726140Yeah. The manabase adds a huge dimension to budget discussions. And that's not even getting the philosophical autism of whether or not b2 should allow things like Shocks because its too sweaty, or if one shouldn't care about what mana base people use because tap lands are bs, etc etc.
>ask to use my bracket 3 deck on a bracket 2.5ish table just cus i haven't gotten to use it in a while>end up winning with a 3-card infinite on turn 4I felt pretty bad but i couldn't just basically assemble exodia and not use it.

>>97726452Same desu.>>97726467It's Sauron.I actually do enjoy the base artwork but i'd like to get the prerelease promo of it so it doesn't feel so pedestrian to use.
>>97726451I'll have to look into it. We might play it more since we usually have 6+ people so we might do emperor instead of 2 3 man pods.Though, I think one of the players didn't like it simply because he didn't get to be emperor so he might put up a fuss about it.
Should I replace scapeshift for crop rotation? Scapeshift bring me out the cabal coffers + Urborg combo, but costs 4. I'm running Life from the Loam to get all those lands back sometimes, but the 4 mana is a big chunk sometimes.
>>97726422a/s/l?
>>9772653118f london
>>97726511I am an expert at this. Scapeshift is not for those two lands, it's for 8 million landfall triggers and setting up lumra/aftermath analyst, or playing it with amulet of vigor.Crop rotation is fine, as are most tutors like reliquary knight or whatever, but a more detailed look at your list is required for specifics.
>>97726631I definitely don't use those cards. The only landfall I have is for Lotus Cobra and Avenger of Zendikar. Scapeshift is purely a holdover from when Primeval Titan was banned. With what you've said, I'm 99% sure Crop Rotation is going in.
>>97726694And deck.https://archidekt.com/decks/14378432/teneb_war_of_attrition
>>97726695Beautiful. Honestly, leave this deck as it is, it's a time capsule to a better epoch. But yeah you're at least 8 years out of date on tech. So many new things have been released almost your entire deck will need to be updated and that's a real shame because it has soul.
>>97726718I've been slowly updating it. I've lowered my mana curve from 4+ to 3.5 while still keeping the theme and battlecruiser type approach. I know I can really get that curve down to around 2 and go for a Protean Hulk combo, but I'm happy keeping it out of cEDH territory. The deck is my first EDH deck from 2010, so oldschool for sure.
>Someone gave me 50 dollars for a gift card from walmart>But I bought this dudes precon for 44 and some changeDid I fuck up? What am I in for?
>>97726748>Did I fuck up? No Bello is strong as shit.>What am I in for?Boredom
>>97726733I knew immediately by your card choices. Honestly I liked it like that a lot, I didnt want to ruin it, but I do know a million different ways to make your deck better.
>>97726774>but I do know a million different ways to make your deck better.I'd like to hear it. Especially if it keeps the deck's theme.>rely on creatures for ETB and exit battlefield triggers>tons of board wipes and removal so if your creatures get taken, you've already got the value>recursion>ramp, tutors and draw for consistency and speed>win through Vish Kal, Avenger, Teneb stealing creatures, Eerie Ultimatum, Yosei lock or Reveillark combosBack in the day the deck was really good against pretty much everything, just by being resilient and having answer for everything besides the stack to grind out a win.
>>97724949>>97724943The real advantage primetime has over these is green can more easily tutor/cheat out a creature than a sorcery and it's repeatable. I don't think prime time is off the table with how much they've taken off the banlist already but lands decks are already so cancer I won't lose sleep over it staying banned.
>>97726803Avenger is old hat. You know have shit like mossborn hydra, scythecat cub, and springheart nantuko on badgermole cub which is just insanely fucked up. Decks have transformed a bit, and people run way less interaction than they used to, and almost everyone is obsessed with little fiddly incremental value engines, so wraths and controlling the board tends to draw a lot of hate.Revillark is probably fine, but not fast, and it's in this weird tweener combo stage where bads will be upset that it exists at all but it isnt competitive. Vish Kal is neat, but now you have shit like Yawgmoth, Thran Physician and Elenda The Dusk Rose which dont do both functions, but are cheap and powerful combo enablers by comparison. Yawgmoth in particular is one of my favorites. With ETBs, honestly Kodama of the East Tree is just straight up better than avenger for a similiar role. Play a land, slam another card in your hand, scapeshift with it out, it gets crazy fast.I've gotta be up at 5am, but I can give you some specifics or a retool tomorrow if you'd like. Nice to see old players kicking around.
I'm trying to break her but even stuffed full of game changers and pushed cards she still feels low bracket 3. Is Italian Tifa just bad?
>>97726876I just put her in Jodah, The Unifier she does pretty good there.
>>97726807Yup. I still play him in my Azusa deck and can consistently get him out turn 3-4 most of the time. Damn right Zesty Elf is in there too ;)
>>97726841Avenger is mostly a defensive card. It puts a lot of blockers up after a board wipe, and if it sticks around it can be a win con. It also puts up a lot of bodies for Phyrexian Altar and Vish Kal. It also was a house with a Tooth and Nail entwined with Primeval Titan. I still feel like the deck needs something like that to give a real board presence mid to late game after a board wipe. The cards you mentioned are good, but they don't go wide which is what I am wanting. I feel like I need one card that can do that. I have Yawgmoth, but it's really more of a value engine like you said. Elandra is nice, I'll look into that. I guess with Vish I just like having a sac outlet for my combos and having a big flying lifelink creature to get me back in the game or win. Instant removal on a stick is just gravy. Yeah goodnight bro. I've been playing since the mid 90s.

What is the most overrated Green Card and why is it The Great Henge?>only comes out cheap if you have a big creature, so a win more>only gives you mana and life, which is a win more>only sometimes gives you another card which is a win moreI just don't get it.
