>>
>>97790660
They are not. The buy-in to most other wargames is far lower. Check out the Battletech starter box and how many mechs you get for the price (note you'll typically only field ~4 mechs at a time). Check out the average amount of dudes needed for Infinity and how much they cost. James has always sold their slop at a ridiculous premium.

If any painters are left on /40kg/ join the painters guild server. We filter out secondaries and have a cozy community of good ppl from here. Best part is no decalmutant or shitposters feeding him. Give it a shot if you ever get tired of the general and want a place to chill/post models. no bait or tricks

40k isn't cheap, but in terms of male hobbies it is still way cheaper than average man hobbies, cheaper than playing the big tcgs in paper (though thats kind of dead nowadays anyways) and buying 40k slop ensures you will have a human to wargame with.

Pics this time. A coworker of mine is a big tabletop fan and wanted to play some warhammer, so I gave him my old Space Marines and we played some 1k points games to get used to the whole thing. Had two beers and got 2 games in, and he seemed quite into it by the end.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong I still buy James' pig slop because they make some good looking shit and it's popular so finding others into it and getting games is no problem. But to say it's on par for cost with other wargames is just blatantly wrong and based on zero research.

Afraid it'll be terrainhammer that makes it hard to use even more model types (ft, bike armies, awkward walkers, etc).

Seriously in the next edition bikes wont be able to take objectives if they're certain terrain types.
>>
I shoulda bought that nephilim jetfighter I saw on ebay for 60 bucks NIB, all the other listings are more overpriced.

Incidentially I notice Sector Imperialis terrain is only 45 bucks at the low end, which is surprisingly cheap for a GW terrain box (though the Basilicata is 120 bucks). GW terrain is like its own autistic overpriced world.

40k is expensive even compared to other games in the Warhammer sphere. Like I have nearly 1000 points of tomb kings just by acquiring a king, necrosphinx, high priest and skeleton spearmen/horse riders to go with it. Was going to paint them Khemri for Big S but the Golden King of Numas has Scythans which is a cool kitbash idea.

Idk probably some gey historical shit, or that Star Wars one that already seems to have died off. Anon GW gave CA approvals to create the look of named characters that became Legendary Lords and just creating brand new characters.
I think whoever OC chapter master/captain character CA makes for their tutorial campaign will get a mini and became another Titus like character thats a fan favourite. And that doesnt have to be a space marine, an ork character could get a mini.
IF CA sticks with 40k total war for 10+ years like they have with fantasy then we will see very minor xenos and characters get a full model and voiceline and personality
CA will at some point add a fucking Rangdan easter egg enemy if the game lives long enough

The chances of a total war OC getting a model is basically 100%

I know why James prices themselves so highly, and yes their plastic is premium and a dream to work with. But you're moving goalposts here, the original comment was that other wargames are comparable cost-wise and that's simply not true
>uggo low detail
This doesn't happen much any more, actually. The games I mentioned, Battletech, Infinity, hell even the SW tabletop, all have great detail. I was really tempted by the Fallout one too, looks pretty gud. The days of shitty half melted looking plastic minis are pretty well over unless you dip into RPG mini ranges.

Not really just nuance. It's not fair to compare GW to low mini count battle wargames. If 40K rules were small scale and starter set gave you 2 full armies keeping same price it would be better than battletech looking at plastic for dollar. Similar quality minis won't be differently priced by much.
To have a fair comparison we should look for a wargame with quality minis and with large mini-count battle size like 40k does. Not games that are more or less skirmish or at beast combat patrrol sized in terms of minis on table.

4. Turret gunner
5. Turret loader + mechanic
6. Tank commander

Optional crew
7. Left sponson

9. Pintle turret gunner

I would say 6 crew minimum, and 9 crew max. The real wild card really is those two pintle guns in the hull, the heavy stubbers/meltaguns. Who controls those? Is there supposed to be extra guys? I would think a single inbuilt servitor in the hull controls them, could just be a torso and head encased down below, but since those guns are BS 4+ that is likely just headcanon on my part.

Considering the time spent making, painting, and playing, I think it's pretty cheap. Plus I prefer buying the kit from my local store to support where I play. I recommend slowly building up to 2k points to make sure you actually like the game and hobby and to just better budget it. Look up the stores or game clubs near you that have 40k nights and see what they do. There's the Combat Patrol format which is just going at each other using what's in a combat patrol box that's a nice starting point for newer players. Outside local tournaments, plenty of people are willing to play at below 2k points. There's Kill Team if you want something smaller scale and cheaper, but it does use differ, albeit similar, rules. You can check ebay, FB marketplace, and your locals discord to buy stuff second hand for less. New editions tend to have a lot of people dumping stuff so that might be to your benefit soon. You can get the rules for free from people here. Also build the leman russ turret and tank body without glue, put some rubberbands around them to hold them together, leave that overnight and the pieces will fit together a lot better.

Playing with my mate who refuses to play 10th. I'm gonna force him to play a few games with me at minimum.
>Most apprehensive of?
The terrain objective thing, it's a little concerning but I'm also excited.
The other thing was the whole "The detachments you choose will dictate what kind of game you play" and how whatever Force Disposition is assigned where you compare force dispositions to 'generate' the mission that you play.
I'm hoping it'll be like a lookup matrix and not some stupid in-app RNG generator bullshit but I guess we'll see. It might fuck over tournaments but at the same time I don't give a shit about tournaments.

https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/bmjvmce4/adepticon-preview-2026-wazdakka-gutsmek-battles-commissar-yarrick-for-the-fate-of-armageddon/

The new box with the new vehicles plus cadians and a rogal dorn.

Optionally you could also consider, when it comes out, the new Kill Team box because you could sell the Red Terror for scalper prices on ebay and recoup most of the cost of the box.

And maybe get yourself a yarrick model, if you want one. Now is actually a fantastic time to get into guard.

The points i don't know since the centaurs are new vehicles but the other boxes are

Deathwatch- 540 points
Orks- 335 points (lol)
Sisters- 520

So it appears the boxes are designed to be similar dollar cost rather than similar points cost.

A rogal dorn commander alone is about 275 points, the cadians are about 65 so from that it's 340 from those two. The other 3 vehicles are probably like, idk, 80 points? Vehicles usually have good points value so I'm gonna say the box is about 580 points? And the box would be around 210 discount, or maybe 170. Unclear until they reveal pricing.

The real aesthetic problem with votann is that they're a bad compromise between NASApunk and a cleaner aesthetic. Instead of having the two contrast with each other, they get blended into a shitty sludge.

The issue is that it says nothing other than the nebulous "it's the type of thing that a concept of a redditor would like."

A lot of Imperial vehicle designs take inspiration from real world vehicles. Mark IV, Pershing, M3 Scout Car, FV432, etc. People to whom IG is just Nazis see a half-track and go "yeah, that's the Nazi half-track" (Sd.Kfz 251) and thus reinforces the notion that IG are just space Nazi SS stormtroopers. Meanwhile others point design similarities to the American M3 half-track.

I'd say my big gripe is that their aesthetic is too adorned for to have their rover/spacesuit look, and also a weird middleground of feeling both boxy and rounded at the same time.
Alternatively they could (maybe should) go all in on being boxy and having plenty of runes. The look just feels like a lot of middle grounds and compromises to me.

Votann look just fine as they are.
They are meant to be both dwarves and a civilization that's a remnant of the DAoT super empire from thousands of years ago.
And whenever DAoT ever gets brought up or described, it's usually a very standard futuristic scifi what people think of today, simple/minimalist design but high tech.
And the dwarf aspect, advanced technology, comes into to play in the fact that the kin have access to very advanced and powerful technology when compared to many groups around them.
And what do we know about DAoT technology? It's stupid powerful and so advanced that it borders on "might as well be" magic in some cases.

All they had to do was be a 2022 version of the 1993 Squats. The Squat bounty hunter is a good example of what a named character for them should have looked like. The nasa vehicles are dumb and should have stuck with the megaartillery of the originals. The land fortress is specifically trying to be a "like the land train but better" but it's actually worse. The bikes are mid, they have half the idea but lack the "biker jacket engineer" grindset of the original version. The second wave has more appealing models because they began to lean into some flavor like killing o*k and tyr*nids for fun.

So the monstrous units include stuff like Forgefiends right? The Titanic rule is weird because I'm pretty sure Lord of Skulls is the only titanic model. It feels like the World Eaters, similar to the Drukhari, were meant to have resin-to-plastic releases of shit like the Greater Brass Scorpion and Kytan but then GW must have dropped the ball due to lack of interest from their management in this faction and it having a full roster.

the new marine is just an intercessor with a headswap and his gun has a strap. It's extra strange when considering space wolves already got tactical armour marks for their blood claws/grey hunters. Are the space wolves the only space marine army that got that treatment? The others seem to have been shafted.
>>
>>97791891
>They are meant to be both dwarves
They failed pretty hard at that goal, since for a large part of their army you can't tell apart from the height and small quantities of knotwork.
>and a civilization that's a remnant of the DAoT minimalist modern super empire
Sure, but there's still plenty of room for movement in that design brief, yet what we ended up getting was Short Space Marines.

Consider that word "remnant". They've existed for tens of thousands of years with their Votann Core slowly failing, living a ramshackle existence (heavily focused around mining) in the isolated parts of the galaxy.

And they were the expeditionary force of the DAoT. Colonists living rough, with rough equipment to match.
Yet all their stuff looks shiny, new, and sleek.

I think they should look blockier and more industrial (as befitting colonists sent to remote planets to mine them for resources), grungier and more utilitarian (as befitting dwarves and miners).
The Necromunda Squats get the look much better.

GW segragating weapon options is still result of Chapter House because GW got burned when they had those units which only had rules and stats, but never had models.
Now they are autistic as fuck and make sure that every model kit matches units its made for. Ie. hellblasters only get plasmaguns, infernus only flamers, intercessors only bolters, etc.

>and they just added in the ability to make custom HQs again
Yeah, they re-added that shit over 16 years AFTER the Chapter House lawsuit. And during those past 16 years those custom HQs were weirdly absent. Kind of like because that was intentionally decision from GW, which GW is only NOW, after 16 years later, starting to turn over since they feel "safe" to do it.

Also nevermind that most if not all of these custom HQ things you can make are still just pre-existing units anyway. Like the Chapter Champion unit, that is a pre-existing unit.
Which you can get in the modern Company Heroes model kit anyway. It's the dude grabbing the long sword with 2 hands and has a gold helmet on the box art. Pic related.

Which is different from the Chapter House lawsuit, because that was an issue where GW only made up a unit, gave it a name, but intentionally NEVER sold an official model for it.

Again, to repeat, the units CH made 3rd party models for, NEVER HAD OFFICIAL MODELS made by GW.
Unlike this time where most of these units actually already DO have a pre-existing models.
It's similiar, but there is an important difference.

>It's extra strange when considering space wolves already got tactical armour marks
It's not.
The kit you're thinking of is the Blood Claws, they have "trimmed down" armor purely to make them look "lighter armored" and denote them being rookies who are lower in rank.

Which is the intended point because the other new updated Grey Hunters kit, ie. the older, higher rank, full fledged space marines and the Space Wolf equivelant of Tacticals, are all wearing just basic mk10 armor with minor variation added in with couple of extra helmets for measure.

GW is not backing down from primaris at all and never have. People who think that are delusional morons.
GW are just adding in bits of older armor mks and adding variation to mk 10 armor here and there because that's what lot of people have been asking for close 10 years now. Many people like primaris, but for many their main gripe with the new kits is the lack variation in sculpts, which GW is now answering.
Yeah, it's 10 years fucking late, but there's nothing we can do about it.

>different bolter
It's a bolt rifle, you can see the Cawl spinny doohickey above the magazine
>different legs
It's just the typical mk10 legs but without separated kneepads, which isn't new. We've had those shits since the Black Templars Sword Bretheren were refreshed like 4 years ago.
Also on other images where you see the ankles, they still have the typical primaris ankle balls.

Even the helmet on it isn't true mk7, but a mk10 helmet with a mk7 face plate. You can tell it based on the ear "protectors" on the side of the helmet.

In this image the primaris are equipped with auto boltrifles. On them the spinny doohickey is just bigger, and it's always been like that for auto bolt rifles.

General lore question: is there a human afterlife in 40k? Humans who "fall" to chaos get kept alive in the warp I guess until something eats or destroys their soul? Or does a cultist's soul if he dies in realspace go to the warp and ... what does it do there?
And what about non-tainted humans (or space marines for that matter) are they just dead and gone?
Or is there (in the sources or as in-universe-theology) a slice of immaterium where the dead exist in perpetuity?

>is there a human afterlife in 40k?
No.
Doesn't matter who you are, loyalist or heretic, once you die your soul just drops into the Warp and dissolves into nothingness or you get caught by daemons and get tortured for eternity.
And before anyone says it. No, there is not any sort of "heaven" created by the Emperor, there is no after life for you even if you're a faithful servant of the Emperor. At best you get elevated into a Saint by the Emperor, which is just you being a Daemon Prince of the Emperor pretty much.
Meaning from then on your entire life is just eternal battle against Chaos be it in the Warp or in Real Space.
>>
>>97792229
If you die your soul goes to the warp and becomes a part of the nebulous cycle of souls perpetually incarnating and being reused unless you fell under the influence of a substantive being of the warp in which case your soul goes to them and they do what they want with it forever.

Or I guess being a devout worshipper of a chaos god and being swallowed up in their shit. Or being the only surviving male guardsman on a backwater planet from a battle in which the Sisters swooped in to save the day and nurse you back to health.

>It's just bots
Most likely not, because it is a steady decline that started after 2016, and it is not an abrupt drop in users. I say abrupt because if they were bots most if not all would get instantly filtered by the new captchas. Also the filter idea you say makes no sense because the newer we started to get only appeared around 2022-2023, while the user count started to decline already 6 years earlier in 2016.
And even then if all of that traffic really was just bots, you'd expect the user/post count to plateau to a stable level instead of just continuely dropping steadily year by year.

>Chaos slaves
If they displease their patron their souls are taken to their realms and tormented (before they dissolve into the Warp and all sense of individuality is lost)
If they do well parts of their soul could become one of their foot solider daemons
>Everyone else
Your soul either dissolved into the Warp or it is taken and tormented by daemons before it can, this can only really happen to powerful psykers

>>
>>97792322
>>97792279
>>97792322
So there is a contradiction, are souls "reused" or is every human born with a new "ex-nihilo" soul that gets best case dissolved in the warp, worst case consumed by a chaos entity?
I know there is probably not a real answer to this in the lore, just wondering.
>>
>>97792229
Most souls dissolve into the Warp. Powerful psykers are able to retain themselves only to get eaten by Daemons. Those afflicted by Nurgle's Rot turn into plague bearers. For followers of Chaos, there's always the hope of becoming a daemon prince.
>>
>>97792331
>foot solider daemons
I thought demons are created from warpstuff, but don't have souls in terms of developed personalities? If you are born and die and become a demon, you should not be considered "Neverborn". Or are there different kinds of demons that are just not being clearly differentiated?

>>
>>97792337
Well, souls are like Warpstuff too. But, yes, the explanation given is that when a god creates daemons, they take portions of their power and make it its own being. Separate from the greater, but still part of it (sharing the god's general aspects while also being individual). Similarly when a god grants gifts, that power comes from the god itself, and when they take it back or they devour a daemon, that power is returned. So when Khorne tore Skarbrand's wings, it was more that Khorne took back the gift of flight.

Daemon princes and plague bearers are made from mortals. Daemon princes devote themselves to their patron and with enough good boy points, they can be elevated to daemonhood. Even then their origin taint them in the eyes of other daemons, but they also retain much more independence than any other daemon. Meanwhile plague bearers are victims of Nurgle's Rot who have succumbed to the illness. Those that resist the longest become champions. It's one reason why plague bearers are such sad sacks of shit while most Nurgle daemons are lively and joyous (GUOs are jolly fatsos, nurglings are miscellaneous little shits and and beasts of Nurgle are like puppies).

Thin your paints down till they're like a glaze, and then thicken them back up till they just start pulling themselves together like the paint at the bottom of this image, you want it to be as thin as possible while still maintaining elasticity like this. If it has elastic surface tension, that means as it dries it'll pull itself across the surface of the model, like a vinyl wrap on a car.

The problem is not Jews. The CEO and board are still English. The problem is the slow morthping of corporate culture over the past 10+years toward shifting power over IPs from the creatives to the slimy Californian marketers. They're now treating the artists and writers as the people whose job it is to churn out what the marketing department tells them to.
And the problem is that marketers are not immune to bias and misconceptions, far from it, in fact. They unironically believe that they'll make money if they make it gay and retarded because they aren't artists, they're pencil pushers who look at twitter trends all day and see that everyone has a mental illness flag and falsely believe these people represent more than just a few twisted freaks. And when that inevitably bites them in the ass then their profits are still through the roof and people can't admonish them anyway for being gay and retarded because that's verboten so they can keep experimenting with their pandering.

ESG was a passing fad. Blackrock etc. made a series of products because their customers claimed to value environmental/sustainability stuff highly, and ESG scores were the gamefied way to "prove" a company met those ethical criteria. Companies wanted in on the products because it would mean more capital flows and higher share prices.

But it turns out investors actually valued returns higher than that, and the products didn't do very well. "The Jews" have moved on to selling other ETF themes. Private equity access is the big one that's about to collapse the market.

Should Traitor Guard be their own faction or a CSM subfaction? Right now it would be easiest to release a command squad, let their infantry be taken in blocks of 20, and give them a CSM detachment but giving CSM even MORE chaff along with cultists seems like a bad idea. Also Traitor Guard really need access to a spiky leman russ to feel right.

Krethusa acting as a Winged (Eldar) Daemon Prince proxy. I might add some extra 40k bits to the base and brush-prime them.
>>97793196
I would say no. Give a vehicle or two, maybe a proper HQ, and make them Battleline.
>>
>>97793196
CSM subfaction

chaos works best as a combined arms force with both marines, cultists, demons and everything else in-between in a single army and chaos is not as popular as the imperium to support fully fledged lines like the imperial guard or the admech

in the case of the traitor guard specifically they would need just a stormtrooper equivalent, a heavy weapons team, maybe chaos ogryns/hounds and a command squad, and then an upgrade sprue to turn imperial vehicles into chaos vehicles, and it would be more than sufficient for them
>>
>>97793196
>giving CSM even MORE chaff along with cultists seems like a bad idea
there's a reason they squatted cultists with autoguns, it's so traitor guard is the defensive chaff and cultists are the offensive chaff
>>
>>97793227
You can give 120 cultists khornate mark for auto-wounding on 5+ with Dark Pacts.
You can take 30 guardsmen for nurgle mark and just wound+special weapons on 5+'s.

Then add a bunch of daemons in 500pts. You can get 50 or less, some very durable ones too.
>>
>>97793240
I meant tzeentch chaos guard.
Nurgle gives 5+ sustained hits, just as good.

The era in which he would have been born in, Hattian would have been the dominant language in Anatolia. The hittites are theorized to have lived there as early as 4000 BC, possibly 6000 BC, ruled by Hattian overlords. The language of Hattian was used as a liturgical language and language of elites. The Hittite state was named for Hatti (the land of Hatti was the official name) but Nesili (meaning the tongue of Nesa, after the city-state of Nesa) was the 'hittite' language. New evidence has also foundincreasingly while Yamnaya/indoeuropeans migrated elsewhere, the Hittite ancestors already lived in anatolia for thousands of years without signs of an 'Aryan conquest' and likewise lack cognates to the word 'aryan' as existed in indoeuropean languages, leading to the revision of the 19th century hypothesis to now postulate, increasingly ,that Hittite may be a sister language of the language that preceded PIE languages. That is, it would be an uncle to Sanskrit and Latin, rather than a sibling.

There is a furhter possibility of an ancient substrate ranging as far west as Italy, as there is linguistic evidence of Etruscan being another 'uncle' language and Minoan likewise being related to PIE. The substrate of course is theorized on such factors as the mysterious double /ss/, which is found in loanwords into greek such as Thalassos, knossos or names like Odysseus. The same appears in words like Hattussa or Tarhuntassa. The long s may have been a factor in this unifying PIE language.

The new hypothesis increasingly may be that the lack of Old European languages that are significantly difference from PIE is that PIE-like sister languages had already spread across eastern europe after the last ice age, and the Yamnaya invasion of cultures like Vinca and Augsburg cultures was actually a migration into the territory of people who spoke related languages, with PIE dominating over its sibling languages due to innovations (bronze weapons and chariots).

The way I see it traitor guard would have to be
>mutants

>specialized cults
Mutants is a catchall for shit like beastmen, maybe with a Beastman chieftain and some other fucked up shit like space skaven
Traitors are the generic enforcer and guardsman, with access to guard vehicles in a detachment
specialized cults/warbands would be stuff like the Vraksian traitor militia or blood pact, forces that are arguably not 'generic traitors' but a well organized cult army and Anarchs like on Vraks and the Sabbat Worlds

What percentage of the fanbase do you think:
>Owns Models
>Plays the Game
>Plays in Tournaments
My guess would be something like 60% own models and maybe 10% play the actual game with only 1% ever competing in tournaments even at the local RTT level.
>>
>>97792413
So what did you end up using then?

>>
I'm thinking of making another basing corpse for my Imotekh/overlord/phaeron instead of the silly discs that the kit comes with. What should he be standing on? I'm leaning towards a gue'vesa infantryman.
>>
>>97793818
I would really wonder about a fan who just straight up doesn't want to own models. Sure there's flyby DoW enjoyers or maybe they read a novel and liked it, but thinking 40k is awesome and owning 0 models is just strange to me.
Conversely, tournaments sound anti-fun. I've heard tournament players spend a lot on meta chasing though so it's obvious why it's still encouraged.
>>
>>97793818
75% own models
45% play games
10-15% play in Tourneys
>>
>>97793818
depends on what you mean by fanbase
everyone that has played a Warhammer videogame? then probably less than 50% actually own a model. of the people that own models, probably less than half play the game more than once per year. the tournament scene is probably 5% of the people who own models.
>>
>>97793851
my suggestions for basing corpses are to use the corpses of either any secondary armies you have (so that they are based with each other's corpses) this is practical (easy access to bits) but also thematic, (they are natural rivals). Another option is to use a friends army as inspiration. if you play often it ties the two armies together to paint a casualty in your friends colors (beware doing this with autist). But can be good fun, used to trade trophy bits with my buddies so that our heroes could accumulate wargear. Lastly something strong and powerful with a complementary color scheme, but try to be consistent across an army if you want a unified theme. Fighting tau on one base but space marines on the next would seem disjointed.
>>
>>97793818
90% own models, 50% have painted models, 30% have played a game in the last decade, 15% still actively play, 2% play tournaments.
>>
>>97793880
I'm mostly thinking about model lines and ideas that I like but not enough to actually collect past a basic infantry box. Also I feel like stepping on a gue'vesa body carries a nice "sneering empire" feeling. The other option would be admech since that seems like a natural thematic matchup.
>>
>>97793904
the problem with a gue'vesa body is that you'd have to buy both a guard and tau box though. Only reason why i wouldn't recommend.

I've got a box of cadians lying around from a diorama idea I had. IIRC most of them are only partially-assembled so it shouldn't be too much of a pain.
>>
>>97793935
Then my next best advice is if you want just basic infantry then kitting out the gue'vesa as a breacher makes him the most powerful and intimidating and most likely be within stepping range.

Alternatively you could get pathfinder infantry bits to equip him with a rail rifle or ion rifle or pulsecarbine with markerlight. the two heavy weapons are both genuine threats so over coming them would be significant, the pulse carbine with marker light implies more elite special forces or team leader, give him the bonding knife as well in this case.
