>>97951108Good thread>TQ: Much has been said about decks with infinites. But have you built a deck that aims to not just be unfun, but ultimately to hard lock the game such as Tomorrow + Possessed Portal? Maybe not as a daily driver, but one that you would take out whenever you feel especially deviant/someone just pissed you off; how did the deck do before the pod whined/begged you to stop using it?I've long thought about making a deck that just constantly forces the opponent to make choices, but never a stalemate engine.
>>97951108TQ:No. I never build decks to be unfun because it defeats the purpose of play. Demonstrating a hard lock or other non-victory state is novel in discussion but ultimately boring in play for all involved parties. For the same reason, I've even removed deterministic infinites from my decks when I've found them. I want to be an active participant, not a spectator to my own win. If a player at the table is irritating me I'll just pick a more powerful and consistent deck for the level everyone's playing at and try to knock them down a peg next shuffle-up.
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>codie>approachis there any card that will win the game on the spot desu
>>97951108>TQI built a Hokori deck pre-brackets filled with all the hatred I could pour into it for particular people I played with at the time. Ward of Bones, Armageddon, Magus of the Tabernacle, Hushbringer, Aven Mindcensor, the works. It was not popular but in retrospect it wasn't even very fun to play because all the removal in the world got hurled at it (justified, but it sucked.)

For me, Magic's ultimate ideal tends to focus on using a bunch of cool permanents to either bash someone's face in or burn them out, hence why the major ways I win in most decks are burn/drain or just swinging instead of any "you win the game" cards. Even my highest power deck outright avoids most things like that and I rely on trying to Surveil/Self-Mill Apocalypse Demon to make Golbez kill people lmao>>97951324Probably Malcom, Keen-Eyed Navigator by my guess. Focus on making artifact tokens through swinging with him, other small flying dudes like Storm Fleet Navigator, but instead of trying to win through the normal artifact combos, use stuff like Broodstar, Master of Etherium, Shambling Suit, etc as huge beaters. Cyberdrive Awakener would also do well in a deck like that for turning a massive pile of dogshit tokens directly into a 4/4 flying armada.
I sneak stuffy doll + pariah into my decks, but that's a different game lock.

>>97952312>while nobody cries about 60 card's quadrupleton spirit being defiled by tutors?People do complain about them. Regularly. Notoriously, even. Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor have restrictions on them in every single format short of kitchen table, cited specifically for their violation of card limits. The conversation is only different there because none of the other formats have a bracket system to begin with. And again, these are in formats where you're already allowed 4 copies of the most broken shit imaginable
>>97952439>>97952412It's not only one person, it's a constant rotation of one guy getting a new precon as someone else upgrades theirs. There's almost always somebody there playing with a barebones out of the box precon deck.

>>97952485It's a bracketed singleton. The reason it isn't banned in other formats is because its power is offset by the fact you still need to draw the card. That makes less of a difference in commander because1) When you use tutors in singleton, you are effectively doubling, tripling, or quadrupling the best card in your deck. 2) When you're running a commander, you always have a piece of the combo in your opening hand.Your whataboutisms are valid complaints if you don't actually understand what a singleton is or how edh works

>>97952883To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. what's a good place to get art alters? I want Ashling to look like Ashling before I start actually fiddling with the deck

>>97954570Okay I'll bite, what is wrong with this Ashling's art

>>97954495Yeah I'm sure goblins are somehow much more interesting.
>>97954656NTA, but yes. Most of their card have downsides and can't just be 5 color good stuff piles like dragons can.
been actually having a ton of fun with this crazy lil bastard. I had to try him out from all the goofy ah spam of him, and yeah, mono green bracket 2 leads to some really fun games with him. Mono Green is not the most fun color but its not horrible either.. Deck is just a Voltron set up + great stuff like Rancor and Riding the Dilu horse make for a lot of fun, and actually wins a LOT more often than I thought he wouldfavorite cards to use with are Riding the Dilu horse, or major board resets with Larry Niven's disk since Toski is indestructible. lots of great stuff out there, Shadowspear and Blackblade Reforged make for some great turns. I also run Buster Sword, and various other standard commander things for haste and protection. worst hands are ones with no equipment or ramp which surprisingly this morning I was getting a lot of. Although my last game of the morning I ended up with a wild t11 win with the last opponent being a fierce red blue elemental deckI think it could also be a viable bracket 3 commander but as far as low power mellow battle cruiser, this squirrel is surprisingly resilient and game-winning
>>97954633it is straight up not Ashling. Doesn't match any of her other designs. Not even her ECL art.
>>97954664Dying to removal is not a downside when your commander wins the game on his own so all you need to do is run protection and ramp.
>>97954490Behold, the coolest dragon.
>>97954570I just played with someone with that deck this morning and they did great and almost beat me and they should have won like multiple different turns. the deck ends up much more red than blue which I was surprised by

>>97954593Mr. Krabs is also a fancy schmancy rainbow foil, therefore must be compared to Smugthering Tithe's fancy schmancy foil.

>>97954689That noodle was in Eldraine, he got swagged up and shit
>>97953710Good stuff. Have fun!
>>97954593>I win the argument if I ignore facts!Crabs is a secret lair special treatment foil. By your own metric it already doesn't count but I'll still debunk you regardless. It is a fancy foil from an SLD meaning ot has far more forced scarcity. And even then it doesn't beat the confetti foil price of anime smothering tithe. The cheapest anime normal foil currently available on tcg is $480 despite how much more widely available the anime foil is compared to the crab foil (cheapest price $850). There are only 9 available anime regular foils while there are 3 Mr. crab foils available on tcg atm, which is the exact same number of confetti foils (which are a more apt comparison by card availability) available as crab foils, and the confettis are almost double the price of the mr crabs. So despite the anime foils being available in significantly higher numbers they're still almost half as expensive as the artificially scarce Mr. Crabs foil, and their premier artificial scarce variant - the confetti foil - (which is more directly comparable to Mr. Crabs) is almost double the price of Crabs. If Crabs SM weren't an artificially scarce SLD and just part of a regular set with regular non-foil versions available it'd be cheaper than anime SM.Oh Ho Ho tithe observably and empirically has MASSIVELY more demand than any other SM variant and is one of the more recognized and talked about cards on all platforms. The fact it has such low availability despite its price in variants proves its popularity. Keep seething ESLkun but you're provably wrong.

I'm highly amused that poltards magic players on /tg/ hate UB even though UW has the most liberal things in it, from numerous trans characters to being majority non caucasian to gay relationships. Why any right winger plays MTG is beyond me.
>>97955788Because 50% of the playerbase is LARPers that started playing after 2024 and 90% started playing after 2018. So the cool thing they do trying to fit in is pretend to like UW stories they know nothing about beyond YouTube plot summaries. You can tell because of all the immense historical revisionism that's occurring where suddenly blocks people hated were actually totally loved from the beginning. They want to pretend they're OGs that want blocks back when they are literally the exact demographic that is making WotC shart out 7 sets a year with 4 being UB. Literally all their fucking opinions can be mapped directly to YouTubers 80% of which started in this same timeframe.

quick question about brackets. bracket 1 has no mass land destruction cards, but is it the cards in particular that are banned, or the act of mass land denial "banned"?I'm wondering because as far as i can tell with a few quick searches, price of glory doesn't really count as mass land destruction, and I can combo it with something like drain power or piracy to blow up a varying amount of someone's lands. Apparently, it's considered a "stax" card, but I couldn't find any bracket info about stax cards.
>>97955936>Its almost like I don't want magic to go down the same route.if normie fortnite couldn't do it what makes you think lgbtqai+ mtg UW can
>>97955937Both the cards that explicitly do it, and the intent to do it are locked to bracket 4.
>>97955937the very act of mass land denial is soft-banned below Bracket 4. Price of Glory scoots by because it's largely avoidable. Combined with Drain Power, it would be MLD. Piracy it would not, since YOU are tapping the lands on YOUR turn, and thus not blowing them up.
>>97955937gavin defines MLD as "cards that *regularly* destroy, exile, and bounce other lands, keep lands tapped, or change what mana is produced by four or more lands *per player* without replacing them."keyword is 'regular' and 'per player'if you have to jump hoops to destroy your opponent's lands (and NOT your own because you don't want to gimp yourself and drag on the game) then it's not MLD
>>97955937bracket 1 isn't real
