>>11677021ARAH happened because Larry Hama invented a para-military adventure squad that he tried selling to Marvel comics as being part of Nick Fury team that's a splinter team from SHIELD. Hasbro was desperate for an action figure line that could compete with the Kenner Star Wars juggernaut, so the two sides cut a deal to sell Hama's "Howling Commandos" idea as the new GI Joe.
>>11677021The second wave also featured kung-fu grip, flocked hair, more outfits, more vehicles, and just more of everything. Skin color was really a small reason. And then everyone at Hasbro turned "hippie," took the 12" action figure line away from a military theme, and turned it into "general adventure people." That caused the brand to completely collapse, and GI Joe was pretty much a dead brand by 1982. Calling Hama's team by a copyright Hasbro already owned was all part of the legal maneuvering to turn Larry Hama's property into Hasbro's property.
>>11677037The RAH toyline was already being developed and produced independent of Hama's story telling. It was a literal coincidental meeting that leg to Marvel, and by extension Hama, to get involved. The figures were being made before Hama created the file cards for em and the franchise....which was already successful for almost a decade, was just being refreshed to compete with the then modern action figure market. >>11677057The Kung Fu Grip and Flocked hair didn't come out until 1974, almost a full decade after the franchise launched. The switch to the Adventure line also revitalized the franchise and kept it going through most of the 70s. This shit isn't opinion, it's very clear fact. You guys keep point to things that happened decades after the initial success of the franchise to try and rationalize away the fact that by it's SECOND YEAR as a franchise the line was a massive success. Much of that was due to them creating toys that included minorities, something no other major toyline had done at the time. It also shows a clear history of G.I. Joe revolutionizing the toy market with something new, being incredibly popular for years, slowly dying off in popularity and then coming back again, with new and different ideas but the same adherence to quality and diversity that the line has *always* been known for.
>>11677238stop trying to spread your stupid bullshit, you brainwashed cow.How can GI Joe have become popular because of a colored character when the colored dolls were produced in limited numbers and came out a year after GI Joe became popular? So even IF the colored GI Joe dolls became popular (they weren't) once they were produced in greater numbers, it would happen nearly by the time the GI Joe line became UNPOPULAR thanks to the Vietnam War.Nevermind this was DECADES before limited editions were created to entice the collectors market.Nevermind the collectors market is ultra-niche compared to the childrens toy market. Also, i love how impossible it is to find info on the scarcity of the black figure on the modern internet. Holy fuck, just 8 years ago there were dozens of websites about the history for these figures and they're almost all gone now. It feels like it's the 90s again, because i need to buy a fucking physical book to actually get documented info, instead of relying on a fucking auction listing.

Right now theres a cartoonishly crazy control freak, obsessed schizophrenic loser of a woman repeatedly making giga autistic demands at me to remove 3 words from my ebay listings title. Who tf does she think she is? WTF...??? Why even need or pretend to need words on my single listing altered? Block me or don't buy it if it is triggering your flipped brain? I want to piss her off as much as possible without getting penalized. What should i do? Ideas so far:>>say yes when its still there and if she keeps on, keep saying yes i did remove it>>say no, with some boomer agitating photo or emojis... wish i could send the plush doing the middle finger but I'd get suspended probably>>keep ignoring while listing more shit>>say youre not the boss of me now>>say stop telling me what to do mom/grandma!!!
>>11671775I’ve used the line>I dont care about you or your childVery very often
Which site is best to sell on if im not looking to make a business out of it and just wanting to down size my collection (like 50-75 items). I've never used Mecari at all, and only used ebay to buy. Also, I've heard some bad stories about scammers on both sites making bogus claims and sellers being out of luck because the company sides with the buyer. What's the best way to protect myself from that sort of thing?
>>11671372I operate 2 eBay stores that rack in an annual 32k each year. I am easygoing, but I block resellers. I just don’t like them and it especially kills me when I see them relist something I sold them when it hadn’t even arrived yet and they used images I took. A few years ago I cancelled orders for one and it turns out they were in a Facebook group dedicated to scalping/reselling hot items. Guy made a post and got people to buy stuff from me and reviewbombed me, causing my account to be deleted. Only took 1 phone call and sending eBay representatives screenshots from the Facebook group and they were all banned and my account reinstated. Found a cease and desist template online and mailed it to each one of the addresses (don’t actually have a lawyer but did it anyways). Got a physical apology from one of them.
>>11675501Record video of you packing and sealing the parcel as well as handing it to the post office. Use recorded/tracked post with the weight noted on the receipt. Always state ‘sold as seen’ and your preowned but still sealed items should still be labelled ‘used’ to avoid scammers saying it’s been taken out of the packaging to try to get a refund etc.
>>11674041I always put on the listing and disclose during correspondence when an item will ship. I work 12-13hr shifts 4-5 days a week. If they order on a Sunday it won't ship until the following Friday or Saturday. But every fuckin week Ill either get complaints or get messaged by retards asking for tracking numbers. Some of them seem to think I generate the tracking numbers personally.>>11675501The reality is you cannot be immune to this shit but >>11675815 is a good start. Ive found the most reliable buying selling environment is actually local fan groups or niche communities. If you can cash in hand with locals or get a decent reputation in a group as a seller you're far less likely to have issues.
How do you buy rare toys off of social media and not get scammed?

Haven’t seen a proper Nerf General on /toy/ in a long time, so let’s bring it back. This is a thread for discussing modern Nerf and foam blasters: new releases, modding, performance, internals, darts, comparisons, and why Hasbro accidentally cooked again (or didn’t). A lot has changed since the last time these threads existed, and there have been way too many genuinely good blasters in the past few years to ignore.Post your loadouts, favorites, teardown pics, hot takes, thrift finds, and mod questions. Stock or modded, Hasbro or third-party, foam is foam.No airsoftNo gel blastersFoam onlyBe civil, stay on topic, and remember: it’s still toy guns
>>11675438Oh wow.....it's hideous. It's like they just stopped making the blaster halfway through and said a copper pipe is good enough. I mean, I'm sure it's performance is stellar, but style wise....that's pretty yikes. >>11675449Airsoft was never welcomed on /toy/, it's a topic that's been kicked off this board for as long as I can remember. It got pretty bad for a while with how often Airsoft stuff got bounced around. There was even memes of people trying to find which board to start Airsoft threads on but the mods would just move em to a different board.
>>11673781It's not in a particularly great state to be honest. Hasbro has all but driven the Nerf brand to the ground, constantly introducing new proprietary ammo dart types in an effort to prevent cross compatibility because somehow in their heads that means more sales. Not to mention the constant reskins, almost 70% of the N-Series blasters are Ward reskins. And then you have the other brands, they're great for being aimed towards hobbyist and likes to standardize ammo dart type as well as accessory mounting points and having excellent performance. But not much about them are appealing for kids who are the ones that primarily play with dart blasters. The ceiling is too high for most kids unless they know what they're doing and who are only in the minority compared to the rest. Dart blasters just don't have the same appeal they use to anymore.
>>11675449I think a big factor is 3d printed guns and even off-the-shelf ones that reach their levels of performance overtook the discussion so hard that it really started to feel like the threads were just airsoft-lite more than anything else. combine that with the flagbearer Hasbro doing Hasbro shit and killing their brand and youtubers dropping off like flies, there really isn't much to discuss. "member hammershot?" can only carry a thread so far.
>>11675533>>11675739Yea, the super "high performance" Pro model stuff or constant comparison to home made 3d printed blasters more or less nuked any possible discussion of foam blasters. They're really not as fun anymore and none of these new ones have any cool but useless gimmicks or themes. When you aim for performance you'll eventually start to hit plateaus and everything will just start to become homogenized and boring. There's a reason why so many Nerf Blasters are just "Stryfe but with extra junk", because it was such a solid platform to build around but none of those additions actually made the blasters better. It's also what killed the Rival line, once you get into the realm of 200 round full auto blasters that are easy to load and work off re-chargeable batteries, where can you even go from there? Everything just starts to retread old ground and come up short in comparison where performance is concerned. I was hoping Nerf finally bending and accepting the Half Dart in their little Franken-stryfe release would help spur them into a second renaissance or sorts where they'd go crazy making weird, wacky, sometimes impressive half dart blasters. Lean into the new ammo type to make Blasters they couldn't make before. Instead they just stopped trying entirely.
>>11676148I'd be a lot more down to clown with nerf's hard-on for periphery ammo if they were still doing interesting stuff with it like mega/early rival but ever since Ultra it's just been one dud after another.

How many unused action figure hands do you guys have? Do you change them often?
>>11673458>there's a whole world you don't seem to be aware ofI agree. And I own my ignorance but it's more than just a lack of knowledge. I'm not going to collect every possible thing that might potentially interest me or appeal to me. I want swords and space blasters for the toys I ALREADY OWN. I'm actually going to start selling off some of my statues and other collectibles and just focus purely on articulating figures. I'm not interested in going down rabbit holes and investing into entirely new lines and franchises and the like. This is a good way for me to be prudent since I'd still rather buy expensive red wine and Japanese whiskey instead of a $200 import bit of plastic crack. Dinner out in a metro area isn't cheap, either.I appreciate you're being interesting and challenging. And politely engaging in conversation. But you aren't going to lure me to the dark side. It's great when people don't just have four walls of crowded shelves all with fifty billion batman or fifty billion spidermen or fifty billion son gokus or waifu/coomer figurines, but actually have a variety. But that's also not going to be me - either of those visions.I knew when I got older that my behavior as a kid, where I used to save old magazines and collect shitty Duck and other cheap comic books, with boxes and stacks of paper in my childhood bedroom, that I had addictive behaviors. I've gone through spending small mints hording import records while in school, graphic novels and omnibus editions as an teen and also in school to adulthood, steel books and complete season DVDs and BluRay as an older adult, etc. and once I sold all that stuff off, I've never looked back (well, I have an excellent set of digital pirated comics, movies and music but my out of pocket costs is limited to a few external drives). Plastic crack is just my current crack. And I have a system that works well for me. And I don't really need to go outside it.
>>11673571>I'm not going to collect every possible thing that might potentially interest me or appeal to me.man, but sometimes you NEED that specific accessorry that comes from some random McStatue. This is where the majority of my oldass Mcstatue purchases come from.I dunno if you're seen my Game of Throne McFarlane legos sets that i bought, but the minifigures those building block sets came with sorely needed a dragon to head their army, and this dragon rider is roughly their height.I've also bought that Matrix stair set diorama by McFarlane, along with their military figures just for their guns. I've bought oldass Spawn movie playsets, because they're ~1:18 scale. I've bought McFarlane Conan figures for swords, thrones, and shields. Why wait for some company to make an accessory pack when there's thousand of toys that already exist that that come with beautifully painted accessories?Shit, that Medieval Spawn? 50% of the reason i bought him is just because he comes with a shit load of beautifully painted weapons. So for me, I'm not investing in a "new line", but rather, it's FOR the my collection that I've been buying since decades ago. I'm constantly looking for cool shit i can use to interact with my collection. I almost never buy something just because it looks cool, UNLESS it can go with my current collectionBTW, I'm polite to everyone as long as they're honest and genuine. Posters like the above poorfag obviosuly just come into threads just to cause problems.
