I honestly didn't have that much of a set Idea, I just looked at the tail and thought "she would look cool as a dragon", but thanks a lot for the suggestions. Something organic might be cool, but options are limited and expensive, I guess my best option for now it's the 30MM Air fighter and kind of work my way form there. The SD dragons look nice but I feel something that moves would be better. Also, I just remembered I saw pic related once, but she's using the FRSA Blue Eyes wings and, like the Digimons, that's a huge investment just for a set of wings.

EX Armor E (Dress) is very cute but Koto are very cheeky for only including it in Magical Base and the next Durga variant. It's much nicer than the skirt version and the thruster ribbon on the back is a nice addition.

Man, I learned a lot from building this kit. It’s the first 30MS kit and second kit overall that I’ve done, so I focused on trying to make fewer mistakes this time. I did fuck up one cut that required cement to fix, but the rest came out alright, I think. Going to try topcoating soon next.

anyone knows if there's any 30MS compatible option kit/option parts that could be used to make something that resemble animal tails?
at the start I though on using some cheap bootleg zoids kits to canibalize into parts, but I felt it would be a waste of cash when certain bootlegs zoids are on the relatibely expensive side.
>>
Hey quick question, I'm fairly new to modeling, is there any sort of paint I should be weary of when it comes to koto kits?
>>
>>11007418
Koto uses a few different plastic types, there's PS (like Bandai's, only harder), ABS (doesn't like enamel thinner), and POM (basically impossible to paint, but can be dyed).
>>
>>11007426
Is there any way of telling bbetween ABS and PS? POM is fairly easy because of texture but I'm not super sure on the others
>>
>>11007429
It says it on the runner, usually. And if it doesn't, it's marked in the manual.
>>
Looking to get into Megami Device and was wondering if there are kits that are significantly easier to build or if I should just go for whichever girl I like most?
>>
>>11007413
Stealth Armor has a fox tail but really there are no specifics. There's tons of ways to make all sorts of animal tails with random parts. Also, Rishetta, Luluce, and Neverlia already come with tails so they have your work done for you.
>>
>>11007492
All the base bodies are essentially the same build, except for the AUV girls and Buster Dolls which use new architectures.
The main difficulty is in how much equipment some of them have, I wouldn't recommend a massive kit like Susanowo to a beginner even though she's really good (unless you already have some gunpla experience or know you don't mind huge builds).
>>
>>11007545
>gunpla experience
lol girlpla and g*npla are fundamentally different, unlearn everything you knew from g*ndam faggot slop if you want to build girlpla or a real model kit.
>>
>>11007566
Girlpla is like half a step up from higher gunpla grades, it still involves all the same nub removal but adds occasionally cementing a few parts, a bit of joint/peg sanding here and there, and maybe a bit of detail painting.
Meanwhile a "real model kit" tends to involve gluing everything, painting everything, and depending on the quality of the kit actually making the parts fit.
>>
>>11007545
I am coming from Warhammer, so I think I am ok on the basics, just worried about the joints/moving parts to be honest. Unsure how firm/loose those are out of the box with these models.

Related question: Are parts easily interchangeable between kits? And do the different maker have roughtly the same scale?
>>
>>11007574
>gunpla grades
Faggot shit, they're all the same, that's like saying 1/48 planes is a step up from 1/72 while the reality is one is just more likely to give you vision problems later in life. Gunpla babies need level of complexity spelled out for them in bold letters like retarded skill level labels on burgerstani models.
>depending on the quality of the kit actually making the parts fit
That's not an essential part of "real model kit" building as you call it. Too often people let manufacturers get away with shitty engineering because it's part of the "challenge" of building or some retarded bullshit. Then the same fucks will cream themselves over a "shake and bake" kit, meaning they did have standards, fucking wankers.
>>
>>11007579
Joint tolerances are pretty self explanatory, just test fit and if it feels scary tight, sand the peg/ball or expand the hole a little. Most tend to be on the tighter side out of the box, but it varies a little.
Armor and equipment almost all uses 3mm pegs across a bunch of lines, even between multiple manufacturers. There's a few exceptions, I think Volks use 4mm pegs instead (but don't quote me on that). Limbs and armor is all pretty much freely swappable within any given line, not as much between different lines but there are ways people have gotten them to work.
Scale is similar enough between most different lines, pic related.
>>
>>11007592
Cheers mate! I'll try to be careful when handling the joints then and test around with a bunch of it. I'll probably going for Road Runner for the first kit, she looks cool and doesn't have too many bits and pieces on her. Might also go for some accessorize backs since the mix and match of that stuff is what attracts me most to these kits.
>>
>>11007608
Roadrunner was my first MD too, she's fun. Be aware she's one of the earlier releases so you'll probably want to cement a few pieces like her shoulder blades, belt, and chest armor, otherwise those like to fall apart.
And like all pre-Susanowo MDs, be careful with the very thin parts on the lower torso joint.
>>
>>11007413
You could theoretically use the hair pony/twin/pigtails as a tail since they're on a 3mm joint.
I did that with my FAG Innocentia where I took one of the twin-tails and plugged it as a fluffy tail.

So, I recently came across the 30min sisters, anyone have a crash course?

I want to know three primary things:

1. Where are the best sites to get the kits and parts?

2. Can I build my own version by buying arms and legs kits, a body kit or two, and face/hair part kits? Or will I end up with excessive parts not in use this way?

3. Is there a gallery or image list of each girl design, each extra kit design, etc? I'd like to know which full kits and which extra part kits would basically need me to pursue specific kits only for color matching parts, incompatibilities and similar.
Bonus; Can any or all of the 30 Min sisters do the "hugging knees" pose? Or is that just a shinki only joint design? And lastly, I understand some of the 30 Min missions robot mech kits are compatible with the sisters, which ones? Or are any of that line compatible?
I'd also appreciate knowing if there are other less pricey MMS/shinki style girl kits and figures, I just want one OR two, and I don't really appreciate the whole "floating wings/weapons" aesthetic (unless I can make a RWBY Penny.)
>>
>>11008887
>putty
just use tamiya thin like a normal person, what the fuck kind of girlpla needs that much filler?
>>
>>11008955
Those are all AFTER the Tamiya thin. I went a little crazy on this one gluing down and sealing up everything that doesn't absolutely have to move like the thigh rings and there were some resin bits in there too, but I've never had good luck getting paint perfect welds with the usual drip and squeeze method. I think the thick stuff might have actually served me better here.
>>
>>11008951
>2. Can I build my own version by buying arms and legs kits, a body kit or two, and face/hair part kits? Or will I end up with excessive parts not in use this way?
The line is literally made for this.

What do you guys use to store parts? I have a few 30ms kits now and I'm looking for an organizer bin that can fit hands/feet and even arms/legs and torsos individually.
>>
Have you guys had any luck painting hands? Seems like any flex would make the paint just flake off.
>>
>>11009536
Look for hardware store organizers. There are a lot of different sizes and slot configurations.
I personally have one where compartments are little boxes that can be moved on their own without having to bring up the whole case.
>>
>>11009553
POM is notoriously impossible to paint for that very reason. Sure you -can- paint it, but as you said it'll just flake off when flexed. There are some multi-primers (Gaia's, for example) that bite in a little deeper and make the paint slightly more durable, but it'll still flake off (and good multi-primer is damn near impossible to get outside of Japan or Malaysia for whatever fucking reason). Hands being annoying/impossible to paint is what got me into 3D designing and printing my own hands out of resin. Sure, it's resin so the hands don't flex meaning I have to change how I slot handles into the hands, but it's totally worth it since I can actually paint the shit and not worry about it flaking off the moment I so much as glance at it.

There's always Lirinel if you want one with a non-flexible skirt (actually 2 separate skirt pieces depending on which pose you want) that will probably take paint better than the flexible one.

It's true. The color separation on these kits is pretty bad. Several spots on the upper body even change what color is wrong between the front and back, making it necessary to just paint the whole upper torso to make it look consistent.

That said, if you can ignore that and know how to use model cement you'll be fine.
>>
>>11011792
The material is basically plether with a vinal sheet covering it. It takes paint, but you need to use a paint that will both flex and adhere to the material.

That said, her skirt is built into her lower body, so there aren't too many customization options with said skirt anyway.

To be fair, the Arcanaeda characters (called 'DEARS') aren't little robot girls like FAGs and Busou Shinki were - they're video game characters that got reverse-isekai'd into our world because the company in charge of the MMO they're from decided to use a mysterious new energy source to power their servers and it went bonkers. The 'DEARS' (as well as the enemy monsters from the MMO) literally walked off of your TV screen/computer monitor and are the same size as they were on the screen, but have all of the abilities they had when they were being controlled by you in-game. The characters bind themselves to the people who played as them in the game (making you a 'DEAR Master'), and can't be seen by anyone who isn't a Dear Master themselves. People basically use their DEARs to hunt down the actually-violent monsters that escaped the game and are now wreaking havoc on the world (though still invisible to most people) while also hunting for bits of the energy source that made the game characters come to life in the first place for...reasons.
Tldr; they aren't robots, they're video game characters that have been made flesh and blood, so eating your food isn't as weird.

they're not videogame characters made flesh and blood. they're interdimensional aliens who got into "our" world when a business' efforts to farm their world for resources backfired and blew a hole between the two worlds.
becoming a "dear master" has nothing to do with playing the faux VRMMO set up in their world. it comes down to being capable of seeing them and forming ye olde contract (engage) with them.

nice job making up most of your post. why is it every time I see someone posting about arcanadea's backstory in here, they're making shit up. how many times has the story been actually translated and posted, that you still have to make shit up like a faggot?

Oh, that's always how it starts. Then your backlog begins... But seriously, I hope you enjoy having at least a moderately inexpensive new hobby. Hope you have some finer sponges than I see there though.
>>
>>11012633
Cheers! Yeah I can see a backlog growing, but I am determined to finish these kits first. Should I have gone for the 600/800/1000 ones?
>>
>>11012640
The rough stuff is good for taking nubs down quickly, but for finishing passes you'll want to at least go up to 1000.
>>
>>11012640
600 is my workhorse and I pull out 1000 for light work and finer finishing (rare). You'll find a use for 400, but sand lightly. I use 360 if I really messed up or for seam welding.

Noted, I'll get it on my next trip, along with some glue, seems like the WISM Soldier sets actually requires some. So the MO would be to use the nipper to get the parts from the sprues, I use the exacto knife to get rid of mold lines and everything else is smoothed out with the sponge, right?

Protip: you can get very good sanding sponges in most auto-shops or similar sections in online stores.
3M makes a lot of them for example.
If the name-brand "for model kit" sanding supplies are too expensive, you can always check out polishing and buffing supplies in car stores.

>So the MO would be to use the nipper to get the parts from the sprues, I use the exacto knife to get rid of mold lines and everything else (...)
Depends what are you going for - if you are just gonna do panel lining and not really bother with cement you don't really need to sand stuff, just get good with the knife. If you will sand nubs down, I think I'd be better if you'd pass over the whole part/subassembly because otherwise it'll give it a different look in texture and "it'll be noticeable".
I personally whip out the sanding sponge when I'm cementing stuff to even the surface out after doing a pass with a knife first.
The process you described would be correct, yeah.

If you will be cementing parts together (i.e. to sand the seam), then be sure to cut the pegs down at an angle.
They will still provide guidance for the parts to align together, but won't jam and will definitely be easier to shift them slightly if the alignment isn't perfect (which may be the case with the WISM kit)
It will also allow you for greater control over the gap between parts when applying cement.
Before you cement anything, look at joints and try to position them in a way that makes them not touch the seam you are cementing (i.e. MD/FAG Knees)

Whelp doing with the first few bits. Takes longer than I thought to get things properly from the runners and sand it down. Also, while I love the accessory packs, I will definitely start painting those, the buster sword looks sad like that. Can you just prime the plastic and go at it with some colours like tabletop models?

Also, when using a sponge I noticed that removing the contact points is goes pretty well on light plastics, but on darker ones the result is very mixed and its very visible where I sanded. Is there a reason for that?

Oh and kinda miffed they didn't include enough parts to make two bodies in the Snipe&Grapple box. It literally is missing a few pieces and you'd be able to build both a armor and zero suit version at least... actually thinking about getting the box a second time for that, I like both girls.

>Can you just prime the plastic and go at it with some colours
Yup. Sanding before priming can lead to a hardier paint job, but it's not necessary.

>Is there a reason for that?
Did you get finer sponges yet? If not, probably that. Sanding messes with the surface of the plastic which can effect how it reflects light and how it looks. Use your knife instead of sanding at all, sand more gently, or get higher grit pads.

>kinda miffed they didn't include enough parts to make two bodies
Welcome to Koto. Despite them selling option parts for half the body, you still basically can't get certain bits without buying another full kit or going to the aftermarket. They also don't sell a cheap blank body because fuck you.

Ms general has maintained very high quality plastic across all their kits. The problem with them comes in from how many kits they have in production and how often they announce new ones. They often release recently announced kits far before older announcements, with how much the designs have improved you end up with shit like Yang Jian getting released after amazing kits like Zhuge Liang. The Raiders of Shadow kits are usually ok, the three kingdoms kits started off shit but have jems like Ma Chao and ZhugeLiang, and the sins have both been good

>Also, when using a sponge I noticed that removing the contact points is goes pretty well on light plastics, but on darker ones the result is very mixed and its very visible where I sanded. Is there a reason for that?
the problem is that it's not just a mark. the plastic itself is denser and darker colored around the nubs (the injection points) because of the physics of the injection molding process.
so in some plastics there will just always be slightly darker spots where you removed a nub even if the surface is 100% perfectly smooth and clean. only way around that is paint.

They're fun and fairly detailed kits, although you'll need to do some paint touch ups on her bag. I'd personally go with the tan gloves.
>>

>>
>>11014939
For the most part yes, the joint will be slight different butt still fit, figma have made gloves for the Sousai series but it really it's just old gloves and new joints.

Which is why there are lots of custom parts selling out there.
Different people has different solution but at the end of the day it will go back to the cost-performance issue.

I've been enjoying mine so far. I guess I was lucky since the knees on mine haven't locked up. They were really tight out of the box, but after some posing they've loosened up. The only issue I have is the elbows and wrists being too loose for the large weapons. They hold up well enough on their own, but placing the bigger weapons will weigh the elbows down and/or cause the wrist joints to pop out. Overall though I like this figure, though I guess that's because I like the design.

Speaking of Snail Shell's QC, I'm currently waiting on my second replacement for Front Armor Victoria. The first one I got had a paint defect on the chest, and the replacement was missing one of the shoulder armor pieces. I hope this next one is solid, but I'm annoyed since I shouldn't need to go through so many in the first place.
>>
>>11015684
Not really. Hell, nature couldn't find a better solution, either, which is why your actual shoulder blades look similar to that - you just have the benefit of having muscle and skin over yours to hide them better.

I like the shoulder pads on Chitocerium kits hiding them, and the way that the upper back can swivel out. But they limit articulation a lot so you have to take the pads off if you want anyone to raise their arms above their head.
>>
>>11016458
What an odd looking creature
>>
>>11016515
That's Chitocerium kits in a nutshell since they're designed by Huke. They're basically just his Black Rock Shooter girls but not quite as cool.

Noodles and Fumina done.
The only redeeming factor of Fumina is the face, the body has Rishetta torso issues and she also has them on the crotch joint too.
>>
>>11018114
care to elaborate on the issues ? I'm only aware about the ankle fragility issue for Richetta.
>>
>>11018138
A 30MS body has 3 parts: the crotch, the body and the chest. Some builds combine the crotch and body.
Anyways when you try to pose Rishetta's chest (for lack of a better word) with a crunch pose, her chest pops out and you can see a gap on her back.
Fumina has this issue in both the chest and crotch. You can see the gap from the pic above, but it's for the crotch-body gap.
>>
>>11018138
The ankle tolerance problem with the joint runner was fixed around the time Luluce came out. Second prints of Rishetta with the neck divet are the fixed version.

>>

Man, I miss when Orion only sold his stuff on Irosika. The moment they started doing BOOTH suddenly most of their items stopped getting sold and the few they still sell are rarely in stock. That seems to be the norm for whatever reason- a lot of these creators start on Irosika, everything is readily available, then they go to Booth and suddenly stuff either doesn't get made anymore or it's just never in stock. I loaded up on one of everything Orion made back on Irosika for the sake of infinite recasting so I'm kind of good in that regard, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Tank is built up. Decided to swap her thighs out to a spare set of Susanowo thighs to give her a little more height and thickness. Made me discover that the designers were full of shit when they said the Buster Doll thighs were the same diameter as the L types'. The L type thighs are about a millimeter bigger around at the base making them look fucked up with no modification. Fortunately that 1mm difference can be fixed pretty easy by just rounding the edges to make a skindentation, so no big deal.

As far as Tank goes though, she's fine. I really like her design a whole lot, but those weird ass Buster Doll tolerances hit again. This time the pom socket into her upper body is super loose, if you flick your wrist right you can turn her into a helicopter. Her shoulders are super tight like Knights were, and like Knight, that means her shoulder butterfly pops out constantly too. The fuku's collar is also still prone to popping up in the back like Gunner, but that problem might be ignorable.

I feel kinda bad adjusting pegs on her since all her weapon pegs have details on them...

Not to be a dick, but if you really can’t afford a surprise $100 bill, you should maybe be buying toys every OTHER month or something so this doesn’t happen again. I personally wouldn’t be buying any toys if that was the position I was in, let alone several per month.

PLEASE, anyone know where I can get a replacement ball joint? Its the plamax BP-01 Sophia ankle joint....
>>
>>11021413
>That one P-Bandai Rishetta recolor

Rishetta recolor + Space Portnova parts. I actually just built her two nights ago and she's pretty alright as long as you keep the helmet on (since with any of the stock hair, the pipes make it hard to turn the head). She's also a great source for 30 Minute Mission parts if you don't want to cannibalize a Space Portnova outright - my Alto Sniper definitely benefited from getting some new knee armor bits.
>>
>>11021522
the helmet is what makes space-rishetta...
But even that cool helmet isn't worth dropping 8000 yen on her.
>>
>>11021518
NVM, found the hobby base joints, heres hoping theyll work....
>>
>>11021518
I had something similar happen to the ponytail joint on my Indigo Jinrai.
I even bought a whole Jinrai to source the joint from after I somewhat fixed it, but I simply do not have the heart to ~just~ replace it.
It's a bit messy, it's got a bit of a thumbtack poking out as the pin core, but she's mine and she's gonna stay as she is - fuck ups or not.
>>
>>11021558
I do the same. I drill out what’s left of the ball joint and put a small bit of wire like a pin in there and attach it to the other part. I fucked both wrists and the spare on my last plamax kit lol.

I did try ordering a spare part off a susanowo I broke but the seller splitting the kit up had already sold the parts I needed so it must have been common.

While there (probably) isn't a photo with all of the things in the set, the photos themselves show that the kit comes with nearly a whole 2nd body given you get 2 sets of legs, the whole jacket with arms, even two hat colors to pick from!
Not to mention gym snacks and weights...

Unrelated, but why does Koto love the FGM-128 Javelin so much?
So you've got black Gourai and the Javelin set.
If you've got Orange Arsia then you've already got one Javelin...
And if you've got literally any Gourai Kai out of the countless recolors and editions you definitely won't be buying it for the Javelin alone.

Like c'mon Koto, I know you share a bed with Tomytec - you could bring some variety. Give her a .50 Browning or some other fun tank-appropriate equipment.
