Nothing new there, it's Koto's MO. I remember getting burned a little way back with Hresvelgr and getting told I was dumb not to expect recolors.

The demons look boring, I honestly find the generic schoolgirl far more appealing
>>
>>11023072
>Thinks demons are boring, but generic schoolgirl #367446 is interesting and totally deserves to be the next figure over something a little more creative
You can't be serious.
>>
>>11023077
nta - but man, take a look at those bewitching thighs.
While I can agree with you about it being just a schoolgirl and nothing more, I also can understand anyone who's buying her.
>>
>>11023072
None of those designs are particularly interesting, but the middle two are trying so hard to be sexy they loop around and miss the mark. Far right is the most appealing, but that doesn't say much.
>>
>>11022944
Where do you cop these?
>>
>>11023090
As far as I know, they've been out of circulation for years now - last place I saw one was on Mandarake about three years ago. Also worth noting that even if you find one, they're just the hair/accessories - you need to buy a specific Azone/Pico Neemo body to glue the bits onto.
>>
>>11023021
>when a strait build looks better than a painted build
How.

>>11023082
So, I feel you, the heads and armor on better proportioned bodies would be vastly superior. the mass release Camio figure is a prime example, her frontal silhouette is mostly fine if not oddly stretched in some places, but her side profile is remarkably flat to the point of practicality not having an ass at all.
>>
>>11023090
Yahoo Japan and mandrake.
>>
>>11023102
Better proportions would go a long long way, but even then three of the costumes are just ugh. It doesn't look like a ton of thought went into them either, but if they are to be glued onto Pico Neemo bodies like
>>11023097 says I guess the limitations imposed could explain both things.
>>
>>11023109
> if they are to be glued onto Pico Neemo bodies like >>11023097 says I guess the limitations imposed could explain both things.
They were released in two formats - the cheaper version, which was a little pouch with just the parts and instructions on how to attach them to a Pico Neemo body, and a slightly more expensive boxed version that was still disassembled but included a Pico Neemo body bundled with it, pic related. I believe towards the end of the run they had a third, preassembled version, but I think only the Black Zepar variant was actually released that way until Camio came around.
>>
>>11023123
Also, link to the official site:
https://www.ryunryuntei.com/category/gallery/gsoromon/
>>
>>11023077
It's subjective taste anon. I find the demons unappealing because they try too hard to be sexy, and the schoolgirl is cute and has nicer proportions that don't scream SEX on your face.
>>
>>11023137
>nicer proportions
That's because both Camios are using an entirely custom body designed explicitly for her, while the earlier demons are GK addon parts designed to be glued onto a preexisting Pico Neemo body, and are thus limited to the proportions of the base. Presumably, if they redid Zepar, Decabria, Gremory or Fulcas as actual figures instead of addon kits, they'd get the same treatment and have bodies custom designed specifically for them with actually decent proportions and possibly more elaborate outfits that are actually part of the sculpt from the start this time around.

Sophia is the best plamax Kit. Her articulation is basically Megami Device at home, down to the shoulder joint and a split version of the hip joint, and her mid torso joint is roughly the same as her first figma. Over working the mid torso joint breaks her back sculpt really badly, as does over bending her waist joint.

She is missing an absolute ton of paint apps. Things like the dark grey on the shoulders and ears, and the bunny ear joints are particularly obvious. She also has several joints that have detents on the pegs, making it far harder to remove them than they should be, as well as making some of them, particularly the ankle joints, exceedingly fragile.

Her buster sword is cool as fuck. The fact that she comes with a full second mounting armature for it tempts me way hard to buy a second copy to double up her weapons.
>>
>okay
The best plamax kits are anything but the girls, so the bar is pretty fucking low to beat in that category...
>>
>>11024326
Take your time anon, left some gate marks here and there. Otherwise very underwhelming end product when compared to the figma. But ignoring that it looks really nice when considering it's a plamo

There are some stress spots on the clear parts I didn't care to fix since they were so small. There is a couple spots on the prepainted parts that had been very roughly cut or pulled from their runners, the white spot on her hip is from that. I neglected to mention in my previous comment that some of the molding has pretty bad mold lines, like across the center of her tits or the fine molding around her thighs.

Here is Elfina. Like Sophia, she is a significant improvement over past guilty princess kits, the only real color missing is the gold/black inserts on her skirt armor/wings. I strongly recommend some silicone grease for all the parts of her ankle joints. The whole ankle assembly is clear plastic, it's practically begging to crack.
>>
>>11024910
Oh thats fine, you dont have to explain anything to me. I had to actively look for flaws just to see what he meant. It looked fine at first glance to me.
I still have shit tier skills messing with clear parts so i cant blame you.

>The whole ankle assembly is clear plastic, it's practically begging to crack.
Never mind.
>>
>>11024326
I own the figma, do you think it's worth picking up the plamax as well? I passed because I didn't want to double up but also having the sword might be cool.
>>
>>11024598
To be fair, I've only ever built Ikaruga, the gun×sword kits and a couple mazingers. None of them really inspired any particular feelings for me, though I'll always love El Dora.

Sophia is still the better kit.

So, while I still really like the Figma, the Plamax is really fun, and the accessories are vastly superior. If you plan to paint the Plamax, it's the definitive winner.

If you get both though, the Plamax comes with adapters to use this version of Sophia's weapons. You also get a Sophia that doesn't look jaundiced.

>>11024910
I know you like to be the first to post a review in your thread OP, but you don't need to rush it out like all the Gundam YouTubers with shitty front panel lines done only. No one is as autistic as you and buys every single kit.
>You take your time anon.
Oh I do, I have kits on my desk where I haven't touched in a few days so I can get a nice refresh mind and some downtime from cleaning.

>why?
One it's hard to be a functioning member of society with multiple hobbies working a 9-5.
Two like I mentioned working on a section then taking a few days to relax and recoup is good. It's by no means difficult but when you hyper fixate on something the more errors you end up with.
>>
>>11024948
As I mentioned previously, the hip blemish is from where the part was torn off the runner by the pre-painter. It isn't a simple nub mark, it's a straight up hole I'm going to have to fill in when I do the detail work on her tomorrow.

I don't know why you have an issue with me posting quick brief reviews of kits, I try to help out anyone I can on this general with tips and info they might need.

I sure don't understand what your saying with bringing up your work schedule either... I work a five tens schedule every week, and in my spare time I build models to relax and recoup. Is this supposed to be a competition? Am I not good enough anon?
>>
Is plamax basically a figma (pre-painted, pre-build) or actual model similar to Koto girls?

Snipped up Tank, she's really cool. The Block 2 body felt good to assemble and feels like a nice evolution of the regular MD body, even if it can be a little loosy goosy, especially with all the weight Tank's pieces have. The Hexa Gear arms don't help either but oh well.
Gonna take her apart, get her washed and get her green parts painted a different colour to start with. I need to dig through my parts to see if I've got anything to plug into those two 3mm ports on her front, just to help keep things stable.
>>
>>11025142
How come whenever they use that lime color it's mismatched as fuck?
The other case being orange arsia
>>
>>11025145
Not a clue, Tamamonomae's got the same problem.

He goes around a bunch of threads bitching about how people should cater to his autism.
Last time, I told him to post his shit and it had gate marks all over.
Guy doesn't know shit. lol
>>
>>11024961
Anon, in this case the plamo is the issue, sure. I know your modifications are real nice. I'm just trying to say, no one is going to take your place. If someone wanted they would have done so after the girlpla argument threads long ago.
>>
I've only built a few Koto kits, but I got the Megalomaria Principal in, does anyone know which joint sections are overly tight and need sanding?
>>
>>11025396
I've built all of the Megalomaria ladies so far, I don't recall any particularly nasty joints on them. If anything I'd suggest tightening up her butt cheeks, if you're not careful they can fall off pretty easily.
>>
>>11025396
Just test fit as you go. If something feels scary tight, sand a little and test fit again. Repeat until you no longer feel like things are gonna crack.
>>
>>11024940
I feel like for any kit that shows that much skin painting is mandatory. Organic shapes need it a lot more than robotic pieces which can look OK with just panel lining and a top coat.

What's a good way to sell surplus kits? I've got a variety of MDs, FAGs, Dark Advent, and A.T.K Girls. Someone else told me to just Ebay 'em, but our little ladies strike me as a bit niche for something like Ebay. Figured I'd ask around before I bother setting anything up over there.

>>
>>11026203
Any of the more basic FAGs/MDs/30MS, it's easier to get burnt out on the really big ones like Susanowo (although she is really good).
>>
>>11026098
>It'd be nice if they did worldwide shipping.
It'd also be nice if they didn't active try to stop us from using forwarders but I guess they like losing sales to the aftermarket.
>>
>>11026310
I guess they're afraid of people overseas scalping, but like if you're closing orders off at a certain date anyway, just set the date accordingly and make more of them.
>>
>>11026324
Maybe they wouldn't have to be afraid of scalping "overseas" if they had proper distribution channels outside of japan (asia? because lmao chink factories)
>>
>>11025396
Neck ball gets way too tight sometimes. Other than that nothing, although the torso balls love falling out constantly.

>>11026094
>>11026091
>>11026087
Just in case it wasn't clear, Asra and AUV faces are the same.
>>
>>11026324
If scalpers are able to scalp it's because you don't have enough supply in their area; daughterblocking me won't resolve that. There are probably valid reasons to care even if you're selling every unit you make regardless, but I can't imagine they're great. In the meantime, you're either making fewer sales or selling the cheaper version of the product you were trying to upsell. Just set a purchase limit if you must and leave the rest be. I can understand if they don't want to deal with the complexity international shipping, but that's the forwarder's job anyway.
>>
>>11026208
I find bigger kits more satisfying and a refresher. When I first started out I did all the 30MS in order and it was pretty boring doing the same build over and over.
>>
>>11026641
I agree, but that's because I've built a bunch of MDs already so the novelty factor now comes from all the different armors, armaments and other accessories. To someone just starting out it's all gonna be new anyway, I think it's better to just get a feel for the type of builds you'll be seeing a lot of with one of the simpler ones.
That's why I usually recommend something relatively cheap and simple as a starter kit, like a SOL girl, WISM pack, or basic 30MS, and if they enjoyed that the next rec is usually an ASRA or Alice Gear girl, a Gourai Kai, or maybe one of the AUVs depending on their tolerance for shitloads of parts.

if you buy all the 30ms alternate body sets won't you end up with way too many bodies and too few heads? is there anything besides the imas sets that actually comes with extra heads?

>>
>>11030329
I got mine last week.
Plastic's pretty soft so be careful if the pin gets too tight.
As usual for chinese kits, there's a lot of fitting issues so some parts have a pretty big gap.
Also, a lot of them have the pins placed a little higher or lower so they don't fit perfectly onto the body.
I'm gonna cut the pins off and make them myself.

Mylene would be sick, especially if her battroid form has speaker boobs as in the show. The VFG kits have only been Frontier and Delta's valkyries so I imagine that the VF19 would be pretty different from what we've had so far.
>>
This is gonna sound weird but I've got a question relating to layering decals.
I have some clear and white decal paper, and was thinking for bishoujo kits, you could make eye decals in two parts- use the white back stuff for the whites and irises of the eyes, and clear for the eyelids and lashes. You'd have to be quite precise with cutting out the whites but with a sharp blade it should be eminently doable. It'd be a good solution to making custom eye decals with a regular laser printer, as ones that can print black AND white toner are extremely expensive.
My question is- would it make more sense to put down the clear-backed exterior parts first, with the eye section "blocked in" with black, and then lay the whites over the top, or would it be better to put the whites down first and then have the clear-backed eyelid decals laid over the top of the whites?

What sort of paint did you use?
>>
>>11033172
Glad to hear. As for paints - black, dark grey, grey and white were from Vallejo Model Color line, purple shades from AK (first time use, I found them really good to work with, good coverage, easy thinning without breaking, good leveling) and metallic from Vallejo Metal Color. Everything except metallics and belly part were sprayed with MiG matte varnish in spray can. Also, skin and hair were not painted to save already printed faces.

next time you do something like that do progress photos as well. Step by step would be cool
>>
>>11034133
I like the color scheme but the paint is really chunky. I'm not sure if there is a lot of dust trapped or if the paint just isn't thinned/leveled enough.
>>
>>11034183
I will keep that in mind but I used to make progress photos before but never posted them - its just that during "cooking" phase, so to speak, parts just dont look good. With just base layer they lack any kind of depth, with just wash they look very dirty and so on. But maybe I could.

>>11034188
Where exactly? Some dust could remain but aside from few spots in black armor, I dont recall any kind of pooling or anything.
>>
>>11034222
Look at all of the grains and bits of hair on the painted bits. Cleaning the dust out of your spraybooth can help.
>>
>>11034222
>parts just dont look good
Thats part of it and its more that they look better at each step on the way to the finished version
>>
Anyone know what third party company might do compatabke wrist joints for plamax?

I have spares for my other girls, but the plamax ones seem thicker and I broke both spares that came with the kit.
>>
>>11034229
Ah, thats just side effect of using makeup sponge for shading. Should work on with it slower, that would leave less grainy surface but direction is good. I like how it looks IRL.

>spraybooth

I dont use spraybooth, I paint solely with brush and ocasionally sponge.

>>11034257
Good point.
>>
>>11034276
It's the same with the painted parts that aren't shaded. I don't think that getting hair stuck in your paint is part of shading with a sponge as people use Tamiya weathering powder without their parts looking grainy.
>>
Seeing "ABS" on the parts list makes my will to build bigger kits just evaporate because I can't just slather it with panel liner raw.
>>
>>11034280
You can make acrylic panel liner that would only hurt a fly if the fly landed in it. There are solutions.
>>
>>11034278
I dont see hair here. And to be honest - nobody will look at this model with magifying glass in hand to hunt for flaws like that.
>>
>>11034296
I did make one (technically a wash for minis) with acrylic ink and paint medium, but it doesn't spread as well as a dedicated panel liner.
It's a non-issue because I just gotta slather it more.

I've heard here that mixing ink with alcohol as a base of the panel liner will make it flow better, and also prevent the ink from separating.

If you've got a recipe in mind, please post it, I'll appreciate it.
>>
>>11034302
I used the recipe over in the gunpla thread OP. It doesn't do quite as well as the usual stuff, but with a drop or two of retarder I was happy enough.
>>
>>11034309
Any retarder you'd reccomend?
I don't have any of the stuff.
>>
>>11034280
I don't think that hitting your pieces with Mr. Super Clear Gloss before panel lining takes that much time. It's just one extra topcoat.
>>
>>11034313
I've got Golden Additives Acrylic Flow Release. I just found it on Amazon; it may not be the best because I haven't activated my autism to find the best, but it works fine.
>>
>>11034278

Finally got the parts I needed (specifically colour-matched upper torso) for this tiny whore. Gonna use the Rit-Dye trick to make her skintone parts dark brown, for full ganguro/negress look. Might add some slight shading and a flatcoat, will definitely give the faces some makeup before applying the decals. Outfit is gonna be painted as a bikini top and denim booty shorts, with the waist piece painted as a see-through bodystocking (I'll paint it as close to the dark skintone as I can match and then coat it with a clear, which should disguise the ever so slight mismatch between the paint and dyed plastic).
Recipe is pretty simple- Chaos and Pretty Magical Girl as the base, MD Top (skin colour A) for the chest, the bigger tits from a Muscuto bunnysuit and the non-highleg pelvis from the same kit modified with putty and styrene into a pair of shorts with a belt. I'm not sure if I wanna sculpt the "cutoff" effect onto the legholes and I worry it'd just break off if I moved the legs.
The chest will have a "strap" sculpted round the back post-dye so the top isn't defying gravity and actually has a means of attachment. I also have the Muscuto pregnant belly piece which will also get the dye; I'll probably leave it as "bare skin" as presumably her bodystocking wouldn't fit with a bun in the oven.

The actual girls are great but their clunky Lego looking accessories full of holes and ugly cutouts just don’t work. I wish they sold them without their armor and weapons, to be honest. They look like they’re covered in erector set pieces or something idk. Great characters with bottom-tier /m/. I know I can just leave it off or swap in something better but I hate paying for all that pegholed junk to throw in a drawer or the trash.

It’s all model companies’ MO. The molds cost half a million bucks and damn right they’re going to use it to make color variants and reprints for a decade. And that’s a good thing tm. In 0% of cases does a recolor or variant take the place of some hypothetical totally new kit. They’re always in addition to, never instead of. And they have designers and artists sitting around with ideas while the plastic and mold production pipeline bottlenecks things. So putting them to work milking existing molds is just smart and desirable. Yeah sure it would be great if a fantasy world were possible where all releases from Koto or Bandai were totally new. But there will always be variants and recolors and many of those are better than the originals.
>>
>>11036905
I really like how MD handles recolors where you get a recolor of a girl + one or two MSG packs alongside them as a fitting recolor too.
Shame that FAGs don't get many of such packages outside of Koto store exclusivity, but at least they seem to get "upgrade packs" instead.

Tank feels like a step in the right direction with her heavier armor compared to Gunner and Knight. The darker colours help too.
Interested to see what they do next with the Buster Doll line, I wonder if they'll try for a less holey mechanical design for them?

The new Block2 body design is really nice, I'd still really recommend Tank if you were gonna grab her. She's still a bit holey but the heavier and bigger nature of her armor makes it work a bit better. Fingers crossed we get those Block1R releases soon though.
>>
>>11036963
>I'd still really recommend Tank if you were gonna grab her.
I wasn't. I'm hardly hurting for girlpla to build, there's no point in buying things unless I like them without caveats. A recolor or someone's custom paintjob might make her look better, but I doubt it.
>>
>>11036905
I feel like the only one with a substantial problem is Gunner. Knight looks fine with the exception of the shields' execution. Tank has a bunch of holes, but her armor layering is so bulky they aren't as noticeable. Paladin just outright doesn't have the problem at all since she only has the standard armor holes on spots common to other kits, besides the ones on the ankle armor, but those can be ignored as detail.

The only correct answer is always to just get whichever has a design you like. Look up FAG, Megami Device, Dark Advent, 30MS, Nuke Matrix, ATK Girl, and Sousei Shojou etc. and just pick a couple you like the most. They are all made for teenagers to build but can be refined more when you have more ability. Almost none of them even require a bare minimum of real modeling skill, they are snap fit/push fit. Bigger, more complex ones aren’t harder, they just have more parts and take longer.
There is never even the slightest reason not to grab whichever ones appeal to you. But my personal favorites offhand are Dark Advent Rania because I just love her design that much, MS General’s Ox oneesan, and maybe uhhhhh…Luluce from 30MS. Not because they’re special as model kits but because I just like their designs and personas and expressions.
I would recommend something that has a lot of color separation in its parts so you don’t have to use a lot of stickers or paint and can have something great right off the bat, though. So not Plamax or Arcanadea, they are missing a lot of colors. But again, if you really love those, just get them.
Pic sorta related, working out how to get this head onto this body.
>>
>>11030810
You will quickly end up with a lot of everything if you got the swimsuit bodies and such, the only thing you don’t get are hair bits for the heads. Thy really want to keep making you get those specifically and they prevent you from making complete heads. So for instance Luluce with her bare arms and legs set, bikini set, and a hair option makes 2 complete girls and I’d have 2 or 3 extra heads if I had more hair. With that plugsuit torso set I think it would make a third girl, not sure tho.
I have an Idolmas kit for Rishetta and her swimsuit and bare limbs and a hair piece or two, and between that, her original box, and the speed armor set, I have 3 complete variant Rishettas (idol, armored cat chick, and bikini slut).

Don’t try to do one eye then the other, keep both on there and kept wet so you can adjust both back and forth. Turn the face upside down to check alignment. Trying to use calipers or tape is iffy because the curved, not necessarily even symmetrical face plates really really fight that. When you think it looks good, take a picture immediately and check the photo, somehow pictures make unevenness more obvious.
It’s the same shit as checking drawings upside down and in the mirror which are the oldest tricks in the book especially for portrait painters.
Also make sure you check with the bangs on, they look ok without and then not right once the bangs are placed, sometimes.
>>
>>11034301
You have lint from paper towels or something in there for sure. The Japanese sand that out sometimes but I’ve never had that work well. Part of it is definitely from built up paint stippled on with a sponge or something…when you pull up the pad while dabbing it on, lint and dust specks get underneath then pressed into the wet paint on the next press downward, and also the paint tries to dry then peels back up a bit. These things are why you have a bit of that distinctive rough texture. Maybe even desirable on stuff like tank armor or a wall (model or otherwise) but not on female skin. It’s similar to rolling paint on a wall when the paint roller needs dipped and is drying out but you’re too lazy to walk over and get fresh paint on it (just a few more strokes then I’ll go do it).
On her armor it could add a little interest but it’s a bit wield on what should probably be shiny metal trim. In the end it’s largely a style choice bit do try to make sure you don’t get lint in there. Nearly impossible to avoid but that’s why the Japs all use those shitty, thin, not very absorbent laboratory wipes instead of paper towel.

We tried. Too much time went in between customs seizing it, telling us we were getting it back, and now the girl trying to get her refund. Insurance with all these shipping companies can be VERY hit or miss. We just had a bass guitar that we sold for 1000, customer was a snob who didnt like it, sent it back to us, and UPS literally crushed the fucking thing, broke through the hard shell case and broke the neck. Reverb refused to cover all of it because "well, you can just get it fixed, heres $500!"

No one want to buy a set neck bass that had a headstock/neck break repaired unless it for pennies of what its worth....

Sorry for the off topic. The FAG that was lost was only 63 funbux. Were trying everything to get the girl her money back, its purely about principals at this point, she cant even leave bad feedback because its taken so long.

I shelled out for the expensive Gaianotes mirrored steel mostly for Yuri. Trying it out on some spoons is makes me think I made the right choice. I definitely think that metallics on plamo have to be airbrushed on as metallic plastic looks kind of ass.
>>
>>11037702
There is actually other possibility - my sponge is in use for quite some time already and might simply break out into tiny parts with time. But yeah, paper towel or some stuff on wet palette are best guess, /tg/ had similar conclusion.

I did mention stuff with a lot of missing color apps being the less-good idea. I haven’t actually built any Godz kits but I’ll take your word for it on those. The Guilty Princess girls are a real good example of nice kits with a large amount of ugly mold gold that’s front and center though. Conversely, if somebody wants to start painting, I recommend them highly because even if you just want to spray paint a little, I can think of no bigger upgrade to make on a girlpla in one easy step than replacing a ton of mold gold with nice glossy painted gold (and some brown panel liner). I’d assume the Godz are the same way, silver spray paint is surely a big upgrade and easy especially if you don’t need to mask anything I bet.

>>11038024
If you have never done this, there is a little learning curve for sure but the difference is worlds apart, you’ll love it. The most important thing is surface prep (as always). Once you have it sanded as perfectly as possible, put on the smoothest, glossiest black coat you can manage (or brown coat under gold and brass). Your metal’s finish is determined by how smooth that undercoat is. Of course nothing is stopping you from going for a more matte metallic but I think the point of that Gaia one there is to be chrome like.

>>11038052
Yep. It’s true a camera exaggerates it, especially modern AI assisted smartphone cameras’ software. But there’s texture there you can get rid of next time unless you want it there. My house is incredibly dusty no matter what and I have 2 Maine Coons so it’s an issue I am used to battling with. I sand plastic and resin daily as well so it’s a constant war to keep shit out of paint. Installed new central air and an upgraded filter, that seems to have helped but mostly just a lot of Windexing and Endust and vacuuming. I also keep tweezers in my airbrush booth to pick fuzz off surfaces I spot while spraying.

>>
Do decals really NEED gloss coats underneath? I tested out a home-printed decal on a matte-coated surface and it adhered really well but I don't know if that's because of the specific decal film. I'm not sure if it's one of those modelling myths, if it's definitely true or somewhere inbetween. I mainly ask because I'm gonna do the eye decals on a kit soon; the kit is painted and flatcoated, the cautious side of me wants to add a bit of gloss before adding the eyes and subsequent topcoat but the lazy side of me is going "It'll be fine, just put it on".
>>11038113

I don’t even know what the problem was supposed to have been. The main difference is they gave her new face designs, which I like less. I didn’t hear about this alleged problem for a long time and it’s only repeated in certain circles and seems to have originated from Westerners. Sophia got a 2.0 as well at about the same time. I’ve owned both versions of both kits and the only notable difference is they redid some of the internals from the first 2 releases to be like Isis. In particular, Rania’s armor joints are still squeaky tight out of the box (like a million other Koto kits are). A bit ironically I did break her joints (by letting thinned clear paint pool on it) but neither of them were joints the 2.0 changed at all and were my own fault. Never had a problem since the initial painting.
>>
>>11038128
I never gloss beforehand but I put them on bare clean plastic. The problem with matte surfaces is they are porous. And that is real bad for decals. You can use mark softener to help them melt into those tiny crevices but you’re likely to get fuzzy or uneven edges where they should be sharp. Best practice would be to sand or melt off anything on there back to smooth plastic, do the decals, then reapply. But I’d probably be too lazy. Also I don’t like having 3+ layers of “top” coat on kits.
The other thing is this standard came from military modeling and passed to mecha and they put on the gloss to aid panel lining as well as some kinds of weathering along with easier decaling, then put another gloss coat over that to protect it, then another clearcoat for more weathering and possibly another one for final finish.
>>
>>11038134
Alright, good to know. Thanks anon; I might play it safe and go for a gloss (or at least satin) coat first as quite aside from anything else sanding isn't an option as it's a fully painted skintone.
>>
>>11038140

It helps under most circumstances, yes. Sometimes the kit's plastic is ideal and doesn't need it, but you never actually know if it is or not. Meanwhile you know the gloss will always do the job. Sure, technincally the decal will be fine after you put a topcoat over it (unless it wasn't adhering AT ALL), but on kits like these where your reposing of them will almost guarantee you rubbing the decal'd areas you should really just do a gloss layer, then your decals. If you're airbrushing then the layers will be so thin that's there's zero harm in doing multiple layers (whereas multiple layers with a can might be a bit too thick)

Now that you mention it, those were not ideal but certainly didn’t cause it to get the 2.0. She has a ton of fiddly parts like many complex kits and is also sort of a transformer of sorts. The white is not any more brittle than anything else would be but there are a lot of tight tolerances and she did stress me out to build and especially to disassemble for painting. But the hysteria was a total meme. Then again, it always is. A lot of western youtubers treat model kits like toys and spread that idea. Yes a lot of kits have tricky areas but I have yet to ever see anyone have actual problems in real life that weren’t a skill issue. All model kits have pieces come off as you pose them, including the best-regarded modern Master Grades. The only thing that bugs me is floppy loose joints or arms that won’t hold up the weapons in the box. Still easily solved but a pet peeve, looking at you MG Sinanju.
The runner up annoyance is squeaky tight joints you have to play chicken with, sand them and risk turning them into the first problem or don’t sand them and risk breaking the joint or splitting the limbs etc. In the end I own cement and sanding sponges which completely resolves all so-called “hand grenades” as a matter of course. It’s a snapshitter problem that even snapshitters shouldn’t be concerned with.
tldr either version of Krakendress Rania is great as long as you have basic modeling ability and I can’t wait for th next Dark Advent girl
