I am BEGGING doll companies to think outside the fucking box when they go down their diversity checklist and do LITERALLY ANYTHING OTHER THAN

-blond white girl
-textured hair black girl
-brown hair latina
-black hair asian

People dye their hair, other hair color combos exist, and MIXED FUCKING RACE PEOPLE EXIST I"M LOSING IT

Hate the EAH style heads and faces.
>>
>>11020228
>Staple because everyone buys them every time
>Appeals the most to people who specifically search for a black doll

The lack of hair dye does strike me as odd though especially on the other 2, since it is easy to add one or two streaks and make them more interesting. Perhaps they're just testing the waters, and would rather make safe yet boring choices to see how the new style sells.

Also, from a design standpoint, I don't see many benefits to mixed race specifically. I reckon it'd be hard to tell with the simplified style while also not being something most people demand. I'm mixed, and while I have some parts of my appearance I deem interesting, some also became less eye-catching. Usually, going for clear archetypes might be boring, but it makes for easily distinguishable characters.
>>
>>11020228
For real, it's like they forget that other races and hair colors besides what you listed exist. It's so boring. And who even has a oddly diverse friend group like this irl anyways?
>>
>>11020353
>White
>Black
>Asian
>Brown

What other races do you want? Indian? Indigenous? There's not much left after those 4 and their variations. Honestly it surprises me we only have a handful of fantasy lines when there's so much more variety in magical beings than in us.
>>
>>11020442
>What other races do you want? Indian? Indigenous?
Yes. Also Persian or Arab.
>>
>>11020228
>Asian doll with black hair and blunt bangs
every time
>>11020353
it's not that odd, even I had a friend group like that as a kid... I did live in a city with a 40% immigrant population though.
>>
>>11020228
The constant brown haired Latinas confuse me because every Latino person I've ever known had black hair. It seems pretty rare for them to naturally have any other color.

ILY 4ever did some mixed race (black/white) dolls you might be interested in. I think it would harder to tell with other mixes... a doll that's white/Asian for example would just like either white or Asian, there's no way to make it look like both somehow.

There's nothing 90s nor 2000s abouts these design or pics you shown, it all recent stuff and not older than 2018.
>>
>>11020611
Ok zoomer. As someone who was not a toddler at that time, I think I know better than you. Paris was the queen of style in mid-late 2000s and her throwback pics absolutely encapsulate it. My god am I tired of zoomers debating over which style is what in these threads, just like you dumbasses can't tell the difference between emo and scene either.
>>
>>11020343
>I don't see many benefits to mixed race specifically.
Because you could mix traits from different people and create more interesting unique dolls. Like whens the last time they had a darker skinned asian? That's not even mixed, just what a lot of asians look like, but they always do this pale look. Or more light brown with puffy hair could look very cute. Or black girls with red or lighter brown hair, or asian girls with lighter hair with different textures. Not sure I've ever seen an asian coded doll with curls. Idk, I am white as hell so maybe I'm misguided

>>11020442
Yes but also brown girls with blonde hair and white girls with brown hair and black girls with pink hair and mixed race girls and albino girls and curly haired girls and and and

They don't have to do this stuff with specific races, just open up google and notice people look different and make more dolls like that, they get so hung up on checking off a list

How many white girls are even actually blonde, most white girls have brown or at most dirty blonde hair

>>11020542
>every Latino person I've ever known had black hair
FOR REAL, it gives the latina doll a fakey look every time, like she and the white girl bleach their hair and look more beauty focused and superficial
>>

yasmin is middle eastern, not latina.
The brown haired character is ambiguous brown or even mixed.
the first line is the "stereotype" of a race just to be safe.

I just bought a RH doll off ebay, the doll arrived today but her face looks different, the whites in her eyes look bigger and droopier than the one in the listing picture (not a stock image). Is it worth asking the seller about or opening a case? its still NIB but her face is BUSTED compared to her listing photo, I tried taking photos of her from the same angle to see if I was being crazy.
>>
>>11022040
or should I just buy a replacement doll body?
>>
>>11022040
Post the doll, there are 'damaged dolls from the line" on Aliexpress that are official dolls, but were not good enough for store sale, they might have sold you a damaged one
(this is also where people buy extra RH bodies)

>>
>>11022071
>>11022073
>>11022112
Yeah, I think she's different, the brows don't seem to have the same gradient. I had this happen with a Zooey I ordered when I was specifically looking for her soft make-up variant and they sent me one with the strong make-up instead, luckily the seller was really nice about it and sent me the one from the actual listing when I messaged them.
>>
>>11022112
Sellers do this often, either they have a stack of them and don't feel like retaking the photo, or they didn't feel like photographing at all and just grabbed someone else's photos; it's quite dishonest but ebay doesn't care. To the seller they would probably argue "it's the same doll" because it's the same product that they listed. But RH have a lot of variations in their manufacturing, I have bought a couple and have noticed so many variations just on the shelf. Most likely your doll is an official one that's just got some minor imperfections, or a factory reject the seller bought from aliexpress.

Your dolls eyes don't look so bad, the eyeball is just placed slightly differently. This is something you will have trouble with with RH if you are very picky about it, because the fact that the eye is separate, there will always be slight variations and faces can be slightly different. Buying off the shelf was the best way to pick one you like but obviously with so many retired ones it's difficult.

If you go after a return I would focus on the missing button, since it's a much more obvious difference from the photos.
>>
>>11021997
Because MGA is just pulling out as many crazy gimmicks as possible right now. I am curious how they stay inflated with the doll inside though, wouldn't placing the doll in there let the air out?
>>
>>11022112
Send it back if it isn't the one you got. Ebay allows this sort of thing (if it isn't often) and message the seller ahead of time and ask if you are getting the exact doll photographed.

>>
>>11022378
From what I can see, the eyes and lashes don't look misplaced. The white gap under the iris is very visible, I can even see it from an upward angle, which I don't see from other rainbow high dolls I have with the same head mold. I think it might be the shape of the socket itself.

Does anyone know the facemold of the red tail mermaid? Is it just a plain old Millie facemold? Ages ago in Australia, I saw her up against the purple odile facemold mermaid, and I ignored the odile mermaid because I liked red-tail mermaid better and because I don't care about odile.

I don't see the purple odile mermaids down here anymore though, but I see some other people are disappointed they never seem to be in store anymore

>>
>>11022607
I don't think they use the white facemolds for black dolls. At least not that I've ever noticed? Black people have different facial features so there's sculpts exclusive to them.

Those are all just hair colors and 2 different hair textures. I thought you meant facial features, which are often lost in simplified dolls. The answer is probably something to do with color theory or whatever.

And it's cheaper.

g3's 'official' global launch was last year + MH is a known and nostalgic brand,of course it has growth.
Still not selling enough tho because walmart dropped exclusives, no big retailer wants hissfits, it's pridemonth and welcome to the comittee frankie is literally where, MH had the core refresh soft reboot, Skulltimate secrets didn't sell enough too that they had to rename it Monster Mysteries and had to change the packaging.
Drac can't carry the brand alone.

Got to be honest anon you sound like a fetishist, there's plenty of "obscure" ethnicities with unique features saying that only mixed people have that it's a bit reductive, heck not mention how much variation in within one race
>>
>>11024846
>and sell really well in europe
Huh. Must be other parts of Europe than here, because the shelves always look completely untouched when I see them
But so do the doll shelves in general, desu. I guess because they are fucking stupidly expensive. Like, fuck off, I am not paying the equivalent of 60+ bucks for a doll that should be 30 at most

>>11024888

>>11024846
MH is an American brand and American sales are all that matters. No one gives a shit about international sales, it's an afterthought at best. All the Skulltimates besides Drac sat on the shelves here for ages until they went on deep clearance.

The appeal of buying dolls on eBay over other sites like Amazon is the fact that you can see exactly what you're getting. If I didn't give a shit, then I would have bought the doll from a third party seller off amazon who uses stock images. As a general rule, when consumers are expected to pay more for product, they tend to be fussier and more involved in consumer decision-making process.

>Just buy in person if you're going to be like this lol
This doll is literally out of production.

They either seal at the ends of the limbs, or they're like a blanket. You know how a heavy blanket will have several layers of fabric? Turn those layers into flexible plastic, make a costume out of them and seal it. Now just pump air inside and watch them stretch.

Now you have what's essentially a normal costume, but it can be inflated. I will admit I never considered their design confusing in theory.

>>
>>11028485
How the table have turned lol, g3 stan were trashing rainbow high rebrand and now it's their turn.

Tbh i'm not surprised they peaked so quickly, making a sleepover line their second core line, releasing so many exclusives year 1 plus having 15 + dolls of the main ghouls in less than two years.
Also monster ball flopped and decreased "deluxe" line msrp from $30 to $25 making them imposible to make future deluxe lines that aren't skulltimate.

Also kinda funny how their peak is pixel printing on shoes and accessories while rainbow high peak was fabric boots and bags.

barbie dreamtopia mermaids are made every year. they usually have poly hair (not this year's) and they also have static tails.
Mermaze didn't sell because it was too expensive and the tails are ugly.
Those tweens are clearly for the summer and for kids to bring to the pool/beach.
The demographic is not you.

is it easy to empty the water from these barbies, or does mold still grow easily in them?
>>
>>11030256
you mean dry? sure, they plastic and don't have fabric pieces. Poly hair is hydrophobic but it disintegrates faster from sun exposure.
More reason mermaze flops. intricate hairstyle retains and gets ruined by water, their fabric clothes would be prone to mold.

So I got a core refresh lagoona, and dear lord does she need a boil wash. So much product in her hair to get those curls, they're rock solid. I know she's saran, but I had a dumb question. It appears as if mattel is using literal string to keep her hair and space buns in place. if I wanted to redo them, how to I avoid needing to use string to keep her buns up? I am not good with styling small hair.
>>

Ah,nvm. The string is just for those rock solid "curls". It's not even a full bun, just a tiny twist and held in place with elastics.

Since when slanted eyes and flat nose bridge means European, I give you this maybe you are American and maybe American whites right now are so mixed they no longer have European features but I highly doubt it or maybe you are from asian and your definition of white it's a half Asian half European person rather than a non-mixed European

>why brown girls in a line are often latina.
They ARE, most of these dolls are made for americans and doll companies have this idea that little girls will only buy dolls that look like them, and we have a huge hispanic population, so the singular brown doll is absolutely always thought of as latina/hispanic. It's problematic because for some reason she is always very high femme and "sexy" too. The best we get is ambiguously brown to cover other folks. It actually blew my mind they did an indian girl for RH, they almost never included other ethnicities other than black/pale asian/hispanic.

Jannies haven't moderated our thread for months now, where have you been? We've already been over this >>11026218

>>11034305
That's what happens when you abuse your power and delete posts to cater to a singular anon, rather than actually moderate. You get the boot. And of course, this stuff will stay up as technically doll phenotypes are still related to doll discussion, albeit it's been done in a very spergy manner this time.
>>
>>11034344
Enough with the vendetta tinfoiling bro. Moderation of the whole board went to shit when they instated the 2 week autosages, that rule in itself made it clear they're very low on janny labor (probably due to a bunch of them quitting, since it's a time consuming and thankless job that they do for free). Most other boards don't have autosages like this. And if you hang out in other /toy/ generals you'd see they've been having the same issues with unmoderated off topic shit and trolling.

There was never only one anon reporting off topic posts, plenty of us report. There was never only one janny seeing reports and deleting things, that's not how janny queues work. Touch grass.

>Otherwise she's just a cheap-looking, poorly-styled mess
I think you could say this about every gen since 1 desu, it feels like they lost the plot
gen 1 was very tight in design and colors and consequently came up with very nice stuff
Now, they have to capitulate to changing tastes and it doesn't fit the IP. My money is that this is the last generation before its shelved for a long time.

I really don't know if I like this. I guess it creates a lot of possibilities for customs/remixes. But UV resin isn't super high quality, all of this stuff will yellow over time. You don't notice it as a sauce or drink as much, but the whole mini being made of resin is kind of iffy for me. IDK, we will see.

Also I hope the LotR stuff is classic LotR and not rings of power.

Polly’s historically been less articulated than that so the way I see this is the designers wanting to experiment using the core brand that’s more of a “safety net” guaranteed to recoup sales (read: Barbie) before rolling shit out with the future Polly playsets.

I can understand them wanting to re-do Dead Fast Ghoulia, since that is one of the most popular dolls of G1 and is a good match for a Comic Con. I'm not crazy about the end redesign itself, not a fan of the dark blue hair, but I think the worst mistake here was not updating the design of Dead Fast! She is supposed to be wearing a female version of her favourite comic book hero, yet her outfit is actually totally different? Heck, they could had even made it so that this new outfit is a live action movie version of Dead Fast - that would perfectly explain the kinda over-designed look of it! Give her a movie poster prop, a repainted figure, and like a photo of herself with the actor of live action Dead Fast.

yeah that's what i was assuming they were going for since it's clearly designed after MCU-style 'reboot' superhero outfits, just a weird missed opportunity not to have dead fast wearing the same outfit in the accessories
