I wonder if it's just because of the fact that this is probably based of concept art, like usual, or if it's something else. I wonder if these were supposed to release a while ago and Hasbro held them back because of the movie delays as well. They have Ford's likeness for Indy and Star Wars, I'd be kind of shocked if they didn't have it for Marvel too.

It only bugs me because Bucky had a lot more reason to become Cap. Making up for what he did when he wasn't in control of himself, being Steve's friend, being a super soldier. Nothing against Sam himself. It's just without Cap being a super soldier I don't think he'd have been able to do a lot of the things he did. Hell Walker was probably my favorite from the show. He felt he needed to be a super soldier, took it too far, almost went to a dark place, but pulled himself back.

After Secret Invasion Tony Stark was ousted as the Director of SHIELD and replaced by Norman Osborn. One of his first actions was to take his team of Thunderbolts and turn them into his own personal Avengers squad. You had:

Ares the God of War as your Thor expy
Bullseye dressed up as Hawkeye
Mac Gargan Venom given drugs to give him more control of the symbiote and an appearance closer to Black Suit Spider Man
Moonstone dressed up in Carol Danvers original costume
Daken, the son of Wolverine dressed in Logan's brown and tan costume
The Sentry, former New and Mighty Avenger with the power of one million exploding suns
Noh-Var, a kree soldier from another universe introduced in Grant Morrison's Marvel Boy series, being called Captain Marvel
And finally Norman Osborn who repurposed an Iron Man Man armor with a red white and blue paint job calling himself Iron Patriot

2009 was a fun year for Marvel.
>>
>>11214496
>the last fun era of Marvel comics
Truth. Shame it had to end, and sad that it will never come back. I'm doing my full MU read-through, I'm currently in 1976, I plan to end with IIRC Secret Wars 3 (that Hickman nothingburger that ended the universe before their reboot) the circling back a little to the The End series.

Oddly enough, I read the whole 2000-2010's era of Fun Marvel (when writing mattered) and still have my Dark Avengers books, but I've never really cared to upgrade past the older Hasbro sculpts, I just don't give enough of a fuck for the toys. Sentry was a shit character, I don't want to spend more to upgrade the first Hasbro version.

That was later during Bendis' Avengers run, specifically during the Heroic Age era stuff. That team was formed after Norman broke out of prison and consusted if several original characters like Toxie Doxie and Al-Apac taking the place of Scarlet Witch and Spider Man on Norman's new team. Norman himself got Super Adaptoid like abilities for a hot minute to during that arc.

Serious question, when have some of you people been able to genuinely enjoy other people having fun?
>>
>>11215195
There are too many terminally pissed off, permanently online, bitch boys, especially on 4chan, and double especially on /toy/. Their lives are so miserable they're incapable of even allowing other people to enjoy things. These people live the saddest, most pathetic existence imaginable and do nothing but get off on making everyone and everything around them as miserable as they are. I've moved past being annoyed by their constant cries for attention and just have come to genuinely sympathize for them. I mean, who in their right mind spends their days getting mad at other people or scrutinizing people's backgrounds for just posting toys?

NTA about 20+ year old comics, but comics pretty much come in Eras. We had the Stan Lee Marvel Method era, the Jim Shooter Era, the 90's speculator / artist driven Era that mainly broke away from how Stan wanted the comics to be drawn, we had the crash in the trash Era of the mid-late 90's, then we had the Quesada Era in the early 2000-2010s. Quesada dictated there could be NO thought balloons and minimal explanation boxes, almost everything had to be dialog driven, essentially making every book a storyboard to turn into a movie/show if called upon (remember the first animated DTV Batman/Superman movie based on the Ed Guinness book that sucked so bad because the book wasn't strictly dialog?). Quesada focused on writers, hiring tons of Hollywood types to come write. But he allowed Bendis who was really good at first to write SO MANY books that he just phoned it in with the Bendis-speak and other dumb shit that just ruined books and characters. Bendis brought readers in then he also drove them out with scores of Go Nowhere Do Nothing Write For The Trade decompressed bullshit. The entire Write For The Trade mentality begun the end of the industry, and kicked into high gear around 2016.
>>

>The entire Write For The Trade mentality begun the end of the industry, and kicked into high gear around 2016.
(Continued) And by this I mean the end of the industry kicked off in 2016, not the Write For The Trade. 2016 really kicked off the Attack The Fans era. The endless online public tirades by the "professionals" of constantly blaming and attacking and insulting the fans, with full consent from Marvel because they never punished their own for doing so. So many writers who put their personal politics in their books then screamed at fans "if you don't believe what I believe then don't buy my books", chasing away fans in droves. Marvel started hiring TUMBLR personalities to write their books, who had ZERO professional writing credits (or skills). Suddenly, every book became what Stan Lee FORBID which was "Day in the Life of" stories, such as Dr Strange wanting to sleep in late, and every single fucking book talked about food, every single fucking one! And Thanos came to Earth to prevent a black woman from finding True Love (the editor that allowed that should be banned from ever working in comics again). No more Super Heroics, no more vast universal threats, just cardboard analog "villains" that were cheap stand ins for whatever people or political figures the writer had a mad-on for.

And again, Bendis really started that whole "waste time with idle banter" bullshit that so many modern talentless writers picked up on. So I can see people conflating the two Eras together. 2000's - 2010's started off great, saved the industry after the late 90's crash. But if you really watch, you see Bendis start off great to really phoning it in with the more work he's given. But also God Forbid he hate a character you like with how he "Disassembled" the Avengers.

And also, in the end, what does this mean for Marvel Legends? It means nothing modern can get a Haslab fully funded. If Robbie Reyes had been a legacy character from back before the readership had cratered so dramatically they refuse to publish sales numbers any more, and if that Dodge Charger was from an Era that fans enjoyed the comics, it would have funded. Yes, I know and agree with all of the arguments about how it was a shitty campaign and overpriced as fuck, but if the love was there the money would have followed.

And there will never be love for Modern Marvel Comics. The sales numbers are SO fucking low its embarrassing. Sure you have your loud mouth die hards, but their numbers are few.

I'm the anon who originally brought up the fact that Alias is from 2001, and even I pretty much stopped reading not long after Hickman's Secret Wars. I only kept up with Amazing Spider-Man since I've been reading it pretty much my entire life, but even that I've struggled to keep up with the past couple of years. The state of modern comics is abysmal, but I still look back fondly at 2000s era Marvel, it didn't really start to decline up until the 2010s imo.

Same, though by that point I was mostly reading for free, yarrrrrr! And as I recall, that ended on a reboot-the-universe note so it was a great stopping point.
>I only kept up with Amazing Spider-Man
I tried, but goddamn I just had to stop. Just like Luke Skywalker, you can only follow a character for so long but no amount of love should keep you through shitty writers with zero respect for the character and an active sense of loathing towards the fans.

There comes a time to choose an ending point, step away for a bit, then go back to the beginning and rediscover why you enjoyed it in the first place. With digital availability, there is just a fucking TON of SpiderMan comics during the good and great eras, even if you've read it all there's so much to rediscover after time away.
>>

Yes, when writing mattered. Bendis was an excellent writer in the beginning. Torso was great. He was given the keys to the kingdom and allowed to jew his way onto so many books he started phoning it in the more work he got. Minimal Assignments Bendis was best Bendis, then he quickly turned to shit. Again, writing mattered because Quesada chased as many Hollywood writers as he could, people with experience, to get us over the previous era of Rob Liefeld copycat artists that crashed Marvel after the main guys left for Image.

Bendis and Slott huffing each others farts didn't take away from the Hickmans and other good writers hired during that time. Strazynski turned in some good stuff outside of his 911 issue and some other trash that was mandated by editorial

Again, you're a very myopic moron with such a limited view and grasp on everything. The board would be better if you just fucked off back to plebbit.

>Not canon = not Marvel. Simple as.
Kek. NTA but Civil War was awesome (OMD and Civil War 2 was not). I say this as a huge fan of so many DC "Elseworlds" books and Marvel's "What If?" series. Yes, canon was looser than all of your mothers by the 90's, but there were a ton of fun reads in there. Civil War was true to the characters and a really fun interpretation of how they might handle the situation. That's literally all I care about with modern comics, be true and respectful for a character's characterization AND tell a good, non-boring story. Don't make The Punisher hand out lolipops and Hare Krishna pamphlets. The entire modern era of Marvel seems to be ripe with "events" that rapidly get returned to status quo shortly thereafter. I lost track of what was "canon" because editorial lost track faster than I did. To me, it's just like raging against Batman 1989 and Alfred letting Vicki into the Batcave, it'll quickly be rebooted and forgotten so just enjoy the story for what it is at the time.

JMS is supremely overrated. Spider-man cannonically ended with Final Chapter.
>>
Can we all agree when comics stopped being good or does it really vary for everyone around when they became a jaded adult?
>>
>>11215337
Robbie's original book was really good, so that definitely is a case of damning by association. Also Jason Aaron's nonsense, but he's more a Bendis.
>>
>>11215497
>JMS is supremely overrated.
I'd say WAS over "is". I think enough people have seen into his bag of jew tricks and Sense8 on Netflix show how compromised he is. A lot of his Icon books were good, Supreme Power (IIRC the title on that one). Not many writers bat 1000, but I've read FAR worse and JMS was far better than the late 90's writing.
>Spider-man cannonically ended with Final Chapter.
Okay, so maybe Final Chapter, then Spider-Girl (??) then The End? Then just consider everything inbetween as What If filler?
>>11215503
>or does it really vary for everyone around when they became a jaded adult?
A question as old as time, BUT here we have actual data until they refused to show it any longer. In my "jaded adult" phase, Marvel was actually making decisions that worked for me, Tony Stark as head of SHIELD made sense, Cap dying and The Punisher honoring his legacy in his own style, etc, etc. For every shitty decision (OMD, Osborn fucked Gwen, etc), there was enough good shit to keep me going. Today, readership is in the actual toilet, and while you can certainly argue how times have changed, I can't even bother to read this shit for FREE. Comics stopped being good when idealogues started forcing their opinions on the stories, Tumblr hacks were brought in just in hopes their followers would buy books, and worst of all, stories became LAME Day In The Life Of shit where characters just talk about mundane shit and foods they find nummy nummy. What's the last EPIC story arc since 2016 that's universally hailed by fans?
>>
>>11215503
I think you get nostalgia for whatever you grow up with. Like I would say that Nirvana was good and so would people my age, but then my grand parents thought it was just noise.
Personally I'm more fond of the 60-80's just due to the detailed line work, bright colors and simple shading. I think in the late 90s and after, everything felt computer assisted and lost it's charm, but a lot of younger people would think the opposite.

I liked his work before FemThor. There are a lot of writers I thought started strong, or at least well enough, that quickly fell from grace. I remember his early Thor work was really interesting. I no longer read anything made after 2016 so I'm not even sure how much worse he's gotten.

>Like I would say that Nirvana was good and so would people my age, but then my grand parents thought it was just noise.
NTA but man I'm glad you brought up Nirvana. I had a side hussle selling stuff and Holy Shit I had NO idea how much the kids today love them! They were great in their time, and the kids found them and took to them too. It's a great argument that if something is good, it *should* endure (I mean, exposure matters, tons of great books, movies, etc lost to time because many people never got exposed to them). I have nostalgia for Nirvana, I grew up with them and have a few fun stories to tell, but the fact other generations are taking to them say they did it right to begin with. Marvel today and even the MCU isn't sending the kids to the comic stores or selling back issues in droves. Some things are a product of their time, some things were never any good, and some things endure. A fun topic to really dive into but this isn't the thread for it so I won't go too deep.
>>
>>11215521
That was me, I thought you were talking about a writer. That's how forgettable he is, he doesn't have first name recognition.

>>11215531
Overlap in civilian names is an issue. Hank, Johnny, and James are blatant offenders, but at least you can use their unique family names or nicknames.

>Personally I'm more fond of the 60-80's just due to the detailed line work, bright colors and simple shading.
Same
>>11215526
>Example of what I mean
Better example would have been a redone classic, like the Marvel Star Wars adaptations they recolored.

I was there for the transition. When newsprint turned to glossy paper, when traditional art turned to computer aided art. At the time I liked it, even today if you hand me a TPB of the 2000's stuff like this I'm more than okay with it, it's serviceable and far superior to most 1996 Marvel stuff. But how many comic shops or toy stores do you walk into? Every time, my attention is ALWAYS drawn to the old style line art artwork. Traditional comic covers, traditional artwork, even traditional painted masterpieces done in oils/acrylics/whaterever like the old Marvel Masterworks Trading Cards. Computer rendered backgrounds and fonts are dull, repetitive and soulless to me, like the posters advertising most TCG's at stores today. Give me some Bernie Wrightson art, or the Hildebrandt brothers, or some Ernie Chan inking Savage Sword of Conan.
>>
>>11215537
You went from Robbie to Jason Aaron and Bendis, so everyone assumed you were talking about writers. Context, bro.
>>

Well that seems odd, but I guess that misunderstanding makes sense if you only look at my post and not the one I was replying to.

Yes. Because retailers don't want waves of single Legends anymore because they don't sell. Yet retailers are stupid and seem to think that consumers want MCU shit so that's the only waves they carry anyway, and nobody gives a shit about the MCU figs. Vicious cycle that will kill the line.

There was no Deadpool wave (either comic, movie, or mixed) or X-men themed wave for the movie. And apparently no Captain America wave for this movie if they're sticking all the characters in these stand alone deluxe boxed sets.

Relax. Kanji's just kanji'ing up. Their daughter's been banished to the flowers in the attic. He has her brightly lit room. He takes the most banal photos imaginable. They're really just the most epic troll on the /toy/.

>Okay, so maybe Final Chapter, then Spider-Girl (??) then The End? Then just consider everything inbetween as What If filler?
I'm honestly good with that. Nothing lasts forever, nor should it. I mean, how many times does Spider-man need to fight Green Goblin? It's all diminishing returns and frankly the modern trite makes even the Clone Saga seem exciting. At least it was memorable.

For better or worse, Medicom likes making the same main characters in different looks rather than expanding the cast of characters. Since we've already gotten 90's Scott, X-Factor and AoA, I feel like ol condom head will be next since it will go with Phoenix.
I say hopefully, because that's the one I'm waiting for as well

I've always thought SHF comic figures, with the same effort as the Dragon Ball line, would absolutely mog the Mafex offerings

Is Mezco Spidey worth it? I mix and match Mezco and Mafex so I have most of the Mezco villain offerings with a Mafex Spidey. Wondering if he's worth the upgrade to match more stylistically?

Bendis is a hack that lives off nostalgia mixed in with his word bubble bull.

Hickman is a hack also who doesn't like to do research. His entire Ultimate run is based on broken continuity. The Maker was back in Ultimate with the Ultimate Venom Symbiote during King in Black.
>>
>>11215503
Comics stopped being good when CONTINUITY and Care went out the window. They keep pushing LIFE CHANGING EVENTS that have no staying power. They keep pushing unearned mantles and other characters with same powers...like ok great power great responsibility but you're like the 30th spider guy.

Marvel so afraid to age Peter Parker

I'm not sure what Bandai's reasoning for the rasied webbing on this figure is. It's not raised in the movie or on any other figure. The figure looks great, and I love the eyes. But the raised webbing is activating my autism like nothing else.
>>
>>11213595
The movie has gone through multiple reshoots, to the point of almost being shot twice if rumors are to be believed. It wouldn't surprise me if Ruffalo was supposed to be Red Hulk in the original version and Hasbro refused to eat the loss.

Even that was something they lifted from the 90s run. Near the end Velez did some good stuff to bring the title back on track but it was too late and the book got canceled. Retconning the Spirit being one of Danny's ancestors was too big of an insult to make up for in the time given. Mackie retconned that back in Web of Spider-man but at that point old Marvel had drawn its last breath.
