==MELEE GROUPBUILD==

Build/paint a robot with a loadout focused on melee combat! Anything from shields to swords to lances to axes to bare fists is fair game. There's no room for ranged weaponry here, however, so anything resembling a rifle, rocket launcher, cannon, pistol, or any other ranged weapon is a no-go (Small ranged weapons that are built into the kit itself like head vulcans are ok, however).

More clarification here:
>If the body part has a built-in ranged weapon (head/chest vulcans, claw beams, etc), then that's fine. If it's a separate part like the Alex's arm vulcans it's best to leave those off.
>Melee weapons with in-universe ranged capabilities (Like the Kimaris's lance or the Gyan's shield) are fair game too.
>Any scale, any brand, and any type of kit is fair game here. That means anything from Gundams to girlpla to miniatures are all free to use.

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

I'm almost done with the plate-cutting part of this project (after this, just have to do the side skirts and the shield). But since there were some voids that were 1mm thick and I need some thicker plating for my groupbuild entry, I went and bought some 1mm plating, since I didn't want to cut four times the amount to cement together.

What's the most efficient way to cut through this stuff that won't bore me to death halfway through? The section cut out here was done with way too many hobby knife passes and then finishing off the remainder with nippers, but it was really easy since I just needed rectangles. This void is a bit more complex, I'm not going to fill the whole thing but I do need to get into some pretty small crevices. Do I just keep using a hobby knife, do I invest in a small saw, any advice would be helpful.

godhands are rubbish for cutting plastic card, theyre designed for kits
elcheapo nippers work for small parts but they cant cut further than a centimeter, just use a hobby knife, cutting mat, and steel straightedge. Mark an area bigger than youll think you need and just snap the plastic apart when it gets deep enough.
I almost exclusively work with 1mm plate since I make actual structures with it.

Bandai's multicolor injection molding can only do up to 4 colors on a single runner (not just 30 years ago when that kit came out but even today). It's cheaper for them to just include the backpack in grey than to make a third runner with two orange pieces and bring the price up some more.

I think it's honestly a difference in consumers. Most the westerners buying such things are grognards who are going to want to paint anyway. bandai still markets to children so colour separation is important and appealing.

Used a few different paints on this project
Blue parts black surfacer>mr color gx ice silver>mr color gx deep clear blue
Tamiya Camel yellow on the feet and skirts, vents got tamiya chrome yellow and titanium silver applied in a couple light coats as a kinda blend. Elbow, knee joints collat got the titanium silver over black surfacer.
White was tamkya white primer then titanium silver then mr color gundam color white blended over that.
Backpack and gun was black surfacer and mr color burnt iron then a clear black applied over it. Brushed some yellow on the legs that was missing. Couple places I tried but the paint just wouldnt stick over the blue. All in all a decent learning experience with the airbrush.

how many mecha musume kits is a pair of these tamiya nippers good for? i've only built two kits and some smaller options kits and they seem "sticky". not sure if that's normal.
>>

no that's not normal, styrene plastic is soft and you should be able to use one pair of nippers for years and years unless you fuck them up. you probably have some small plastic debris in the hinges or some shit

As other anons said, a drop of 3 in 1 oil should take care of it but also check for plastic debris in the groves, they tend to get a small piece caught and flatten it out. Makes it feel sticky.

Why the fuck is this $400? Because it’s metal? Am I missing that it’s huge or something?

It’s this METAL BUILD CROSSBONE GUNDAM X1 HALF CLOTH (KINKEDO CUSTOM)

https://p-bandai.com/us/item/N2754727001001
>>
>>11285496
It's 400 because Bandai thinks paypigs will pay that much for it if it's metal AND P-Bandai
>>
>>11285496
I have owned and handled a few MBs now, and I just don't get it. They look nice I guess, but they are super unpleasant to pose. The joints are tight as fuck to carry the weight, and they feel scary to move. They also don't feel worth it to me at all. Diecast is not expensive to produce, where does all the money go? Just making a heavier figure that's not fun to pose, I guess.

MRD is a huge scam too, just by injecting a little diecast they think they can charge hundreds of dollars for a 1/12 figure. Insane.
>>
>>11285541

Not a 1:1 example cause I added on. But if you ever doubt how far a little bit of painting and poorly done detailing can go, it’s definitely worth it.

I don’t really take the time to do side by sides of painted vs bare components, but this kit is taking a lot of time and this was a good opportunity.
>>
>>11287447
I'm hoping it'll be significantly cheaper than Warhammer. I like the idea of wargames but I can't afford it. But considering HG gunpla are similar or cheaper than many Warhammer minis and the Assemble minis appear to be single color injection, and less pieces than an HG, I'm hopeful that this will be more affordable. Not sure if I'm coping or not though.

>>
>>11287447
>>11287727
I think this seems like a losing prospect. Yeah, there's been a little /tg/ and /m/ crossover, but I dunno if it's enough to drive an entire line. And Gunpla really gets to coast a lot on its parts count, engineering, and tolerances, all of which are a pain in the ass to nail on a 3D printer. Minis, on the other hand, are extremely easy to do at home. All I have to do is rip the models from any Gundam game, pose em up, print em, and I will never need to buy Bandai's injection molded minis.
>>
>>11288307
It might not be DIRECTLY compatible, like plug and play, but most modern kits can be combined with a little work, like sanding down or thickening up balljoint connections with kleenex to make the joints fit. It should be doable without too much fuss.

It was actually a good kit, and I can still finish it with a pair of PN-125 and some classic knife, but I'm still SO pissed -.-

Press F in the chat for me fellows, I need some moral support.
>>

The fuck you're doing with your clippers? I still have the Tamiya pair I got five years ago. Built more than a hundred miniature kits with them.

first pair my cat dropped it from the table while I wasn't looking, I had it for at least 3y, stared rusting here and there, really not mad, had a great track

But that second pair, I guess I tried to cut a very fat clear plastic part and it was just too fat and tough for it, break like pic related

Hi guys, I wonder if you can help. I bought this spray can for my models but I am unsure about what it says.

I usually paint my gunplas with brushes and Vallejo Game Color (water based) and usually use decals and sometimes the included stickers that you find in the box with the model. Same thing for weathering, rusting etc, Vallejo colors and FX paints.

On the can it says "DO NOT USE ON STICKERS AND DECALS", but I have seen many people use it on a variety of things and I wonder if I should trust the can or the overall community experience.

What do you have to say about this?
>>
>>11288340
Don't clippers have a max safe thickness for things they are used on? I know you're not supposed to use god hands on anything thicker than like 5mm.
>>
>>11288343
Maybe something in the spray harms paper if applied directly to it? For transfers I usually gloss varnish the surface as the last step to seal them in, so you can always just do that.
>>
>>11288358
it was around that thickness, but clear plastic is just tougher too, normally I use tougher nippers (like 125s) for clear plastics but they fly in the air chaotically, I was tired of it, and I had multiple pieces to cut because of the size/nature of the kit, so I moved to120 nipper instead of the 125, and you wont see me do that mistake again
>>
>>11288330
bruh, you're 3 years in, on your second pair of SPN-120s, and you didn't even know to never use single bladed nippers on clear plastic? that's fucking basics. wtf are you doing buying the best nippers in the game when you're at this level of knowledge??? just throwin money away, I swear
>>
>>11288368
bro go dilute that salt you got in you

but for real I perfectly knew you're not supposed to use 120 on clear plastic, but after tons of kit, I acted careless and felt like using 120 would be faster, I was stupid and juvenile.

my fault, my loss

hold the piece instead of the runner when you make the final cut, it's not like the runner is gonna fly away

It should work fine, nut dont do thick coats at first. Give it a light coat, just a light dust coat over the decals and such. Then do a thicker coat after it dries. The thinner can reactivate the decals. It can cause them to lift and bunch up if they get too wet on the first coat.

It should be absolutely fine to use over stickers and decals. Just don't spray it on too thick at first, as that other anon mentioned. You can always test it out on a spare decal or two if you really want to be sure.
>>
>>11288368
I use PN-120 nippers on clear plastic and haven't had a single problem
>>
>>11288330
>>11288375
I've used my SPN-120 to cut clear parts off the runners probably close to 100 times by now, and they are still unbroken.Having built a few dozen kits I have never seen a 5mm nub, they are usually less than 1mm wide at the part and clear plastic of that thickness is not a problem for SPN-100.

Nippers are not tools for scratchbuilding, you are not supposed to cut plastic sheets or rods with them, there are knives, saws and all kinds of other cutters for that.

Tring to find the right vehicle.
I was able to find the 3 main Arm Slaves from full metal panic in 1/48 scale, so Im planning to do a small diorama with 1. I need a 1/48 vehicle (preferable US Military) to act as a support vehicle, sort of like the one from Armored Core 3. I need a vehicle to attach stowage and a few magazines for the mech.

Thinking about getting some of the new(?) G-Gundam kits. I think they're all RG, so I'm not sure about them. Is it just the Nobel, Shining, and God gundams right now?
>>
>>11289266
RG God and Shining are new. Nobel is pretty old, maybe she had a new print though.
>>

Are they good? RG seems to be a total coin flip. I have Char's Z'Gok, its got a little flop in the arms, though its otherwise pretty good. That's my only personal RG experience, though.

>>11289266
I don't know how new the Nobel is, but Master Gundam and Nobel are both just HGs. I have Master Gundam, he himself is fine, Fuunsaiki really could have had more articulation if they wanted. The RG God Gundam is swell and I look at the HG and wonder why I was even deciding between the two. HG Shining's alright but you might be better off waiting for the RG.
The Rose, Maxter, and Dragon Gundams are HG and P-Bandai but have a lot of parts-separation.

It's outright predatorial, they would know that they're selling well. I wouldn't be surprised if Bolt and Spiegel get released and are p-bandai as well
>>

It'd be funny if bandai just decided to make those regular releases.
>>
>>11289398
Have they done that before? P-bandai stuff becoming mainline? I only know of an exclusive SD Qubeley getting a mainline release years after, and some Scopedog add-on stuff just being part of a different Votoms kit later on
But yeah, it'd be nice if they released all of them, or without the effects parts?
>>
on the upside, them being P-Bandai means we have a higher chance of getting an extremely okay bootleg
>>
>>11289421
Still waiting and hoping for those bootlegs, hopefully it's popular enough for them to pick up
>>
>>11289410
I've heard of them re-releasing models that were regular release as pbandai. Then some models for some reason are pbandai in Japan but regular release in North America.

>>
>>11289396
>It's outright predatorial
LOL, no it's not. You act like it's some evil scheme or something. All it means is that it's a kit that Bandai views as a low sales risk, so they are producing them to order rather than chancing them sitting around unsold.

I don't even get why people in the US complain about P-Bandai anymore. Is it the loss of the slight webshop discount? The $10 shipping fee, which is likely less than they would have paid from a webshop? Neither seems like enough of a reason to bitch and moan. P-Bandai used to be a pain in the ass because you had to contract a middleman service to buy it for you, which also incurred additional fees. Now it's so easy for us. I think people got so used to complaining about it, they just kept doing it even after it got easy.
>>
>>11289625
I just don't like them keeping things that should just be normal releases hidden behind limited time bullshit. It's forced fomo. That's what's predatory.
>>
>>11289636
P-Bandai reprints all the time now. If you miss something it'll probably come back around in a few months. Think of it this way, without something like P-Bandai to put out "risky" kits that might lose money at retail, you might not get them at all. Would you prefer that?
>>
>>11289638
I'd rather have nothing than a platform exclusive.

>>11289625
It used to be that, throw in a book-only rando or an obscure mook or variant in p-bandai, that's fine. But the G Gundam ones are clearly popular and they're bothering to make an RG for the Shining, why bother doing that and making an HG Death Army kit for the mainline if you genuinely thought it was a sales risk. Likewise, I think most if not all the Code Geass ktis were p-bandai as well.
>people in the US
H-haha yeah, that sure is me

>>
>>11289934
>Truly, you must posses a genius level IQ to have been able to deduce that
There's been other toylines where they give you the least popular one in the mainline as a rather insulting consolation prize
>>
>>11289625
>The $10 shipping fee, which is likely less than they would have paid from a webshop?
from a normal shop that actually has in-stock items you can buy many things at once and pay one shipping fee for the order

for pbandai where everything popular is preorder only and sells out in less than a day, you will be paying that $10 shipping separately for everything you buy since of course none of the other shit you want is in stock to add to your card at the time the preorder is ready
>>
>>11289864
>Oh nice, haven't seen this one in stock in ages, hope she's still fun despite the ankles.
It's a fun kit. Comes with a V pose hand and bridal carry hands for Shining/God, which is funny. There isn't any movement for the hair, so it really limits the head articulation. The most interesting part of the kit is that it comes with plastic ribbon for the beam whips as well as a base to hold the other end, but I haven't opened that up yet. Overall, it's nothing spectacular, but it's a $20 kit without poly caps. I'm curious about the berserk mode coming out now.
>>
>>11289864
They made a RG for Shining because even if Bandai doesn't believe in a series, they do want main MS representation. I am surprised they made Death Army a regular release, but it makes sense, those are made to be army built. Bandai has made army builders P-Bandai before, so I see this as a rare moment of clarity for them. The other suits are not meant to be army built, and the series has such a wildly diverse/polarizing aesthetic, so it's easy to relegate them to P-Bandai. I'm not arguing for it mind you, I too wish G got more exposure, but I'm just trying to explain what I think Bandai's strategy is here.

As for you not being from the US, RIP

>>11290085
This is how virtually every store works? Only BBTS and HLJ will hold preorders for you and wait for more to arrive. The vast majority of sites ship preorders as they come in. And by the way, if you pay via credit card, and buy more stuff later that is arriving in the same month as something else you ordered, P-Bandai will combine shipping on request.
>>
>>11290724
>This is how virtually every store works? Only BBTS and HLJ will hold preorders for you and wait for more to arrive.
Yeah, preorders are a shit experience compared to normal ordering.
And the reason pbandai is shit is because EVERYTHING is preorder-only and impossible to just buy when in stock, because they only produce enough to meet preorders.
>>
>>11290727

>>
>>11290727
Uh, yeah? That's by design? If they produce a set number of a risky kit and just have them sitting around taking up space, that's exactly the in-store problem they are trying to avoid by making things P-Bandai in the first place.
>>
>>11290724
>The other suits are not meant to be army built, and the series has such a wildly diverse/polarizing aesthetic, so it's easy to relegate them to P-Bandai.
those retarded made a pbandai website for France, cool for me I guess
But then haven't made it possible to buy the Rose Gundam, there was only 6-7 kits on it and nothing was added in near 2 years of activity
they annouced they will stop the service for a year, for "restructuration" lmao
>>
>have the MG Aile Strike RM
>just have to patiently wait for the Perfect Strike expansion parts to hit P-Bandai
>stop by my local brick and mortar after work
>they have the old 2008 Sword + Launcher Strike for sale

There was a part of me that was tempted to blow the extra $35 or so, but I don't need an extra whole-ass Strike (the temptation to make a zero battery version or use it for kitbash fodder was strong, I have to admit). Plus, the P-Bandai version comes with a new waterslide sheet.

Saw it on sale on Aliexpress, figured it might be a good dust solution for the workbench.
Didn't expect the box to be quite *that* large.

In the box: fan with a filter installed, power supply with various switchable plugs, dust brush, velour pad of some sort, sheet of stickers and an instruction leaflet. No spare filters included.

The fan is controlled by 2 touch areas in the middle, the funny part is that the function of the areas is printed on a removable sticker, if you peel it off there will be no indication where the areas are whatsoever. Controlling the fan using those areas takes a bit of getting used to, I wish they were just normal buttons. You can also control the thing with an app on your phone (personally I don't want my fucking phone on my workbench).

The whole LED lighting effect is a bit annoying. I thought it was kinda silly how much text the instruction has about configuring it.

The suction is pretty good. Not spraybooth tier good, but enough to suck away airborne dust. The noise is okay even at the highest suction level. I was disappointed by the lack of airflow stats on DSPIAE website so I took my own measurements, came to about 330cfm at the highest level.

I think it should be safe enough to sand and dremel resin etc with that thing on in front of you, but I would still wear mask just in case.

Well, I happen to think that their various vises and their electric rotary tools are the best I've tried so far.
Their chisels are second only to BMC (which are kinda unobtainable atm).
