I want to get back into lego but the problem is all the new sets I see are so detailed and expensive that, to me anyway, I'd be discouraged from ever disassembling anything and building anything on my own. So really what I want is to just have a bunch of random parts so I can build stuff. What's the best way to go about this?

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo... in Lego Racers.

I like it a lot. Love the truck especially and the dropship mechanism is fantastic. Plus the gwp set central piece looks pretty close to the original cargo box and you can attach it in the center if you went.

I have a few of the same minor nitpicks but overall think it's a great set, I also think the compatibility issue between the gift with purchase is overblown- I was able to make several neat mashups between them, including a much better longer satellite, and the most important thing is that the cockpits work almost interchangeably, and even so you can fully mod it with parts that cost like, $2 total to give it the exact same connections across the board. All in all very happy.

Not so much mental gymnastics as it is putting it into perspective. For instance the lion knights castle is $400, 21 figs (+1 skeleton) but they are mostly pretty boring samey figs in a boring build. DnD set + cmf is $420, 18 figs (+4 skellies, 2 mushroom dreamlings and a bunch of other brick monsters) but every fig is super unique(with optional heads!) in a cool build

If you’re putting it into perspective then:
1- 31120 3-1 castle still getable $100-125
1- 21343 Viking Village $120
Complete DND CMF set- $60
Other bricks and minifigs as needed from PAB- $45
~$350 plus tip sar

You’re clearly just a consoomer because if you really put it into perspective you’d realize how overpriced all modern Lego is.

>"Not much mental gymnastics" in the purchase of 400 dollars of plastic toys
>MFW
That's the cost of a properly nice weekend away, and greater than the cost of a lot of other worthwhile things and activities. Engaging in your hobbies isn't bad but anything over 100 dollars shouldn't be something you're talking yourself into buying through mental hoops its something you should be acknowledging the expense involved with and be budgeting for and saving up for in full acknowledgement of the "which" decision you're making between the 400 dollar toy playset and other things in life (including other 100+ dollar plastic playsets. That kinda talking yourself into it mentality is for small sets "I came to Target for actual shit but hey this polybag/small set is calling to me fuck it I'll take it home too" kinda stuff.

Your mentality is fucking retarded. I bet you haven't bought fresh sheets for your bed in 10 years but you impulse bought 400 dollars worth of plastic.

This is the Lego Cuuso (Ideas) Exo Suit. It will be a decade old set this year.

It was one of the first premium/adult oriented sets Lego came out with.
It has:
>A very nice fold out box with reinforcement that doesn't destroy itself in the opening process like modern 100+ dollar lego sets
>A snazzy manual that espouses a love for Lego Space and talks about the set designers
>A snazzy space box art without any soulless black background bullshit
>Knees
>Elbows

It's retail price? 35 US dollars.
How did we go from this to "bro I know its 400 dollars with the CMF line bro but just dont eat bro you're gonna get mad bitches with your gaunt, emaciated form bro"?
More importantly, how do we go back???? Surely it's only a matter of time until there's a dust collector in every home in America and this entire premium adult sets sold to non-Lego fans operation goes the way of beanie baby investment, right?

Inpossible, we are literally living in yhe golden age of lego right now.

I have so many sets I want

All Sonic sets, One Piece sets, more Wednesday sets, more Fortnite sets, Star Trek and LotR set, PotC set and Wicked For Good sets, Lilo and Stitch home set and even dreamzzz and ninjago be cooking. Sorry anon, but Lego is kino now.

Lego not only helped me lose weight, I also did this to save up for lego:
>stop drinking alcohol and going out
>stopped smoking a pack per day, now I don't smoke anymore
>lost 20 pounds
>I go to gym now
Sorry, Lego saved me

>>11288604
Nope,
>eat 1 good quality meal per day
>drink tap water
>1 day to fasting, only drink water
>repeat
Its kino man
>>
>>11288613
>Inpossible, we are literally living in yhe golden age of lego right now.
They certainly have some very talented designers on board currently. But it's overshadowed by the amount of hundred+ dollar shitbox sets in production and the impact those sets have had on normal sets.

Golden age was at the start of this whole adult push circa the early 2010s where the design chops were there but the sets were all affordable.
>>
>>11288613
Another tidbits
>Now only pay for internet
>do not pay for cable or streaming service shit
>install utorrent and go to piratebay
>watch kino for free
I also read books for free online

No need to buy real life book, much more lego money saved up

I dont think you understand anon, even if you managed to legitimately pair down your expenses to only Lego via dumpster diving for food and some living arrangement as a concubine, I would still mock you for your gluttonous approach to acquiring sets instead of taking a measured appropriate amount of time to decide WHICH premium sets you want.
>>
>>11288622
What? Focusing on lego saved me

Hear my story:
>be me 20 year old loser
>smoke 5 packs a day
>drunk alcohol every day
>fuck hookers every friday
>one day I come here, to this board, via /tv/
>see lego gen
>see lego fans have fun
>say man I liked lego as a kid
>look at all cool sets now
>decide fuck it, buy a hidden side set (the boat)
>mfw its fun
>want more
>too expensive
>decide to quit smoking
>save up more cash
>then stop drinking
*start to gain weight, too much food*
>decide to go to gym and save up cash for lego by not eating a lot
>stop fuking hookers, meet a noce girl, broke up later
>still buy lego
>now have over 390 sets
>mfw I am more healthy now and smarter
Only thing I need is a new gf but I date someone now

I also have my own home thanks to inheritance. You and I are not the same.

Consider this: you’re an older person, likely in your 40s or 50s, and you’ve been part of the LEGO community for decades. You’ve seen trends come and go, and you’ve probably noticed that a significant portion of the community now includes Gen Z and even Gen Alpha. Let’s face it, who doesn’t find themselves browsing 4chan or similar platforms at a young age? This LEGO community here is one of the best—better than Reddit or Eurobricks—because we have a unique blend of knowledge, passion, and creativity. However, we need to face an uncomfortable reality: licensed themes are driving LEGO’s success, and original themes simply don’t generate the same level of profit.

This is an undeniable truth—the harsh reality of the current market. We should not shame those who enjoy licensed sets; after all, licensed themes are the future of LEGO. Take Sonic, for example—it’s fun and brings a new energy to the LEGO world. The same goes for the Wicked Witch of the West and Lilo & Stitch. And let’s not forget the big franchises we all know and love—Marvel, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings. Heck, this fall we’re even getting a Star Trek set. These licenses have been crucial in keeping LEGO alive and thriving, especially during the company’s rough years in the 1990s and early 2000s, when their survival depended on striking deals with major IPs.
>>
File: Lego General 2017.jpg (945 KB, 1311x892)
945 KB

>>11288801
We need to accept this reality: original themes like Friends, City, and Ninjago are among the few that have sustained long-term sales. But even with those, Dino, Monkie Kid, and other original lines are struggling, and they will likely be phased out by the end of this year due to poor performance. Simply put, licensed themes are where the money is. It’s time we embraced this fact and looked at licensed sets not as a threat to creativity, but as a new avenue for fun and growth.

The key takeaway? We can still enjoy original themes while recognizing that the future lies with licenses. So, let’s celebrate both worlds—because, in the end, it’s all about the bricks.
>>
>>11288732
I will kill your plan. It took me years to finally find a gf that likes lego. I won't let you ruin the chances of young men to find a wife that likes lego by making lego cringe. Only now women start to show their passion for lego, you wil get us back to the stone age!
>>
>>11288801
Castle and space alone could keep Lego alive

So far I'm liking the renegade. The drop truck is too low to the ground, I'll see about raising it after I finish the ship

The cockpit is mostly good, but I'm definitely replacing the awful clip system with pins/holes once I figure out how many yellow pins I need
>>
>>11288770
Those are from before my time, so they don't quite hold the same nostalgia factor for me. Though I did have a lot of the colored transparent pieces from bins that were handed down to me. Atlantis and Mars Mission were neat I guess, I had a handful of those sets. In any case I don't have much of an urge to collect these days. My friend sends me Cobi shit for Christmas and that's about the limit of what I build lately

I haven't played with lego in years but I do have family who still engage with the brand. From my observations licensed IP's are the future, for every nine year old that prefers monkey kid and dreamzzz there are one hundred that prefer star wars. Nowadays most kids buy along brand lines rather than along toy lines. A kid will want star wars and avengers toys and the fact that what they got is a lego product is incidental.

disney is a soulless “corporate entity”

however they’ve produced a few shows/movies that are quite good, and many, many more that are (sadly) no worse than the other forgettable consumerist slop kids are subject to on youtube, netflix, tiktok etc. And the Lucas stuff still exists; I wasn’t born when the OT came out but I’m still invested in them on some level and the same could happen to a 5 year old today.

That and the genx/millenial star wars cultists are passing on their obsession to their alphlets with nonzero success. It might not be an all-encompassing juggernaut as it once was but the market is definitely still there.

So I got the Blacktron Renegade together.
Despite the frame being Technic pieces, it's very open, utilizes some larger pieces, and goes together quickly. I remember being annoyed at the Galaxy Explorer, which had a huge amount of Technic, because I knew all the shit I was building in the nose and wings was just going to get covered up by tons of plates. Also, the Galaxy Explorer is quite large, but felt cramped, because most of the ship is like an inch thick. The Renegade is not as big, and feels more balanced in terms of ship size and functions.

Things I'm not crazy about on the Renegade..
- the clip system sucks, that's the only outright bad thing here, but it's easy enough to replace
- the ship would benefit from being about 10% smaller, or maybe just having a smaller cockpit
- the little scout ships are finicky in terms of their wing positions and the yellow triangles needing to be tilted to accommodate a figure. Probably makes sense to just use them as unmanned drones, or build some larger transport ships, which could easily dock there
- the truck needs a little more ground clearance
- it's weird how the red power plants only connect to one hole and the other connector just rests on a grill plate

But there are a lot of pros...
+ The drop mechanism works very well, and supports a lot of other play functions (cargo container, mega bomb, etc.)
+ Better rigidity than I was expecting, although there are still some places you wouldn't want to grip with one hand
+ More of a play piece than a display piece, due to the modularity and ability to customize the ships role
+ Even beyond the modular functions, just a much more friendly design to make modifications to than something like the Galaxy Explorer, which pretty much has to be that way
+ 3 minifigs and a droid feels right for this ship

This wave is undeniably peak but I feel it's making up for a pretty boring previous wave.

I'm a huge Sonic fan but I hate when Lego releases shit sets to sell minifigures.
I'd buy the Knuckles mech to use the parts to make an Egg Viper or bulk up the Death Egg Robot but building it as-is isn't worth it IMO.

It's the same practice they do with popular Marvel and DC characters. Just make an ugly tank for Batman to drive and have an obscure Green Lantern character on the sidelines just to be there and get flipped on Ebay.

How long until we actually get a set of Super Sonic fighting Chaos over a flooded station square with a sound brick that plays the entirety of Open Your Heart when you push down on Sonic's head?

Last year, I got back into Lego after 20 years because of the Animal Crossing sets, I mostly collect Animal Crossing lego and sometimes Sonic, Star Wars and whatever Lego I can get for second hand. I love collecting CMFs.

I have a relatively big Animal Crossing village where I put my minifigures and try to pose them in fun ways.

Nothing at the moment but I'm looking for more beastmasters for my wolfpack fortress I built a few weeks ago.

I completely agree anon. I remember everyone being excited for it and while I liked the idea of lego space getting a modern upgrade with lots more detail, this looked drab, ugly and fragile (i have no idea if it is fragile since i didn't buy it). The new blacktron shit is much closer to what I was hoping for.

I thought I was just being a gay little bitch about the clip system, but it definitely feels like a chore to disconnect. The GWP definitely feels smoother even if it's somewhat less compatible.

Still love the set though, I'm slightly greebling it now. Would definitely be interested in some slightly larger, hoverbike esque builds to dock on the wings instead of the triangle vehicles.

I pretty much think I will want one traditional style Lego ship and castle ever because of the sheer fucking size making them complex to display or store

I've had my eyes on the Creator 3 in 1 castle for awhile, as well as Dreamzzz nightmare shark ship. But Im not sure, if I'm only getting one I do kinda want it to be an above average one at least.

My big holdups with the 3 in 1 Castle was that it looked really cool in the Jang review but Jangs review focuses massively on how much value he got out of having multiple and forgetting budget entirely, I don't have the SPACE for more than 1 of these.
And my hold up with the Nightmare shark ship is that the wings elements as sails seems to small and dinky and not enough like an actual ship, even though the hull being a shark corpse is fucking raw.

Hey KKKramer, since we're apparently getting AOSTH Robotnik, is there any chance of us getting a Sally Acorn minifigure?
>>
>>11289913
I agree with >>11289920. You’d really have to weigh both sets and get a price per Mass to have the most accurate comparison of objective value.

However, left is ~8.69c per piece, right is ~11.16c per piece. So if that’s all you care about, to your disadvantage, the Blacktron Renegade is the better deal.
My guess is that the Renegade has a better price per mass as well.

Still, you have to factor in your own subjective taste. Which minifigure design do you like better, and do you care that the cheaper set has a few more figs? Does the nostalgia factor of Blacktron move you? Do you like your spaceships black or white, your trans-windows tinted yellow or blue-black; what color scheme do you prefer? Which build experience is “better” for you? The 2024cityspace set uses more “modern” parts like curved slopes - which parts interest you more?

I promise you’ll get more mileage out of the 3-1. Yes get two or more if you can but definitely get at least one. They should call it a 50-1. There are dozens of rebrickable instructions. Here’s two with the main and tower build then extra parts to add another level to everything. I built a third one for my four year old and it’s stayed mostly intact for a few months now. I have another 31120 still in the box. If the rumored set for summer is half as good I’ll get two im sure.

Well, what characters have they done so far?

Sonic (and Super Sonic)
Tails
Knuckles
Shadow (and Super Shadow)
Amy Rose
Rouge
Eggman
Cubebot
Metal Sonic

So which ones are left?

Big
Blaze
Omega
Gamma
Cream
Tikal
Chaos (0 could be a minifig, 2 a bigfig, and the others could be made into builds)
Silver
Any of the other robotic Sonics out there (like the one from Sonic 2 or the one from Sonic & Knuckles)
Sage
Orbot
Espio
Charmy
Vector
Mighty
Fang the Sniper/Nack the Weasel
Ray the Flying Squirrel

Of these guys, the one I'm most sure we're going to see is Omega, if only to complete the Team Dark trio (Shadow, Rouge, and Omega). Plus he can be a set in and of himself or a side build to a larger one. Of the rest, I think Sage is the second most likely; she's a relatively recent addition to the cast, SEGA clearly intends for her to be a mainstay from here on out, and she makes for a good bad guy fig so they don't need to use Eggman so much.
