Thoughts on Toyhax? Just finished applying this set to turn Cyberverse Tarn into G1 Stalker, kinda wish I had done some paint apps before applying to really sell the look but I like the way it looks. Would like to see a proper fuckhuge rocket and radar dish as accessories for him and print them out.
>>
>>11290318
DESU it'll probably dip to 30 in a few months anyway, they released that Galvatron mold too many times. It's like how SS86 Arcee is shelfwarming like crazy even though she sold pretty well the first few releases because everyone who really wanted Arcee already has her.

If they really wanted people to pick up Galvatron again they would've at least retooled him a bit or something.
>>
>>11290302
Hmmm I should finally get these guys, I thought they looked pretty cool but now that they're the only remnants of a cancelled game they have just that little bit extra curiosity factor for me. I like weird stuff like that
>>11290321
I've always found toyhax sets to look really ugly, idk. Never understood why they're as popular as they are. The faction labels are nice and the reproductions of classic sticker sheets for like, G1 guys is appreciated but the actual sticker sets for most figures almost always just make them look worse to me
>>
>>11290302
What are the odds that these molds will get re-releases and/or redecos down the road? Or should I just bite the bullet and get them now before the aftermarket prices get too high?

God fucking dammit. Also Devastation is still the last good TF game ever made.
>>
>>11290321
Quality-wise they're okay. I think they tend to go a bit overboard with their sets though, any time I'm interested in something enough to want to buy it I'm usually only buying it for like half the sheet at most. Their best use is getting nice faction stickers to slap on your 3Ps.

I think their customer service is alright though I've never had to raise an issue with any of my orders before. Apparently it's a real "mom'n'pop" business though so I wouldn't really expect them to bend over backwards for you like, say, BBTS, can, but I know they used to send free replacement sheets if they accidentally sent you anything that wasn't cut properly for example.
>>
>>11290311
When they're not being cucked by Hashit they always win.
Thankfully the (((brand unification))) looks to be coming to an end. So when Hasbro goes bankrupt Takara will just take over and we'll be in another golden age.

Considering it's been in development since 2017 and they never felt confident enough to officially show a single second of actual gameplay footage, I'll say probably not. It was also apparently a live service game, and I avoid those on principle.

Evergreen designs have always been weird to me when G1 or even Bayverse designs basically function in that capacity just fine. Weird comparison but it's like when Esperanto was invented to be an international language even though English was already perfectly fine serving as one.

Also the designs themselves seem like they were too busy trying to fix things that weren't really broken, like trying to make Bumblebee look "cooler" or the slimmed down design on Optimus which makes him look like he has birthing hips or something.
>>
>>11290439
Evergreen is especially weird to me when you consider that basically 80% of the franchise has had overlapping designers meaning they already look like the same art style. Like you could stick G1, Beast Era, and UT characters right next to each other and they would look like they were from the same series
>>
>>11290393
They spent 100 million on this thing so I'd say that counts as "something of value" that was lost.. Otherwise, there could have been some cool toys to come out of it, but the actual game? I'll say probably not. I think there was a leaked listing for a TF Reactivate Lifeline somewhere, so I'll be kinda sad if we never see that. I might have also hallucinated that though.

It's crazy how video game flops have gotten so bad, it's like powercreep. 10-15 years ago a game that had an 8 year development hell, started and stopped development multiple times due to studio and engine changes, and cost 100 million dollars only to be cancelled with little to no fanfare or even evidence of its existence would have been an industry-defining flop, now It's not even close to the worst failure in the last few months.
>>
>>11290403
dude dont be a faggot, we're already on your side.
>>11290439
ehhh English sucks. Esperanto was supposed to be easier. The main reason things like that stopped dead in their tracks is people started all doing recorded media of their language, and that became a huge part of life. So at that point, you can't switch to a new language anymore.
>>
>>11290445
Seriously. I blame China.
I imagine they will make it a tax writeoff, so they won't lose any money, we will. The Democrats skimming off the top will have to take one fewer private jet flight to a pollution caucus.
>>
>>11290443
It would make sense if they used Evergreen to update certain G1 designs like the Carbots so they feel a bit more differentiated and giving them each more individualized design elements, but Evergreen is like the rest of the franchise and obsessed with Optimus/Bumblebee/Megatron/etc. who already have iconic designs that barely change between different iterations of them, so what's even the point?
>>
>>11290454
imagine, even from the mindset of a braindead fucknut, what it's like to be running a company where you keep making the same thing over and over, and one of those things you can't even do because it's a gun, and another is usually a licensed volkswagen
>>
>>11290455
You can still change slight things about a design without using the evergreen designs. Just look at all the G1 tank Megatrons or CC Bumblebee
>>
>>11290455
They release unlicensed versions of characters like G1 Bumblebee all the time.
>>
>>11290460
>>11290461
I feel like you have missed the point.
Just, how fucking weird must it be for them, if they describe their job it's just "Making the same 4 toys over and over, from a franchise that has 400 toys"
>>
>>11290466
Wouldn’t using the evergreen designs also basically be “making 4 toys from a franchise that has 400, except now the toys you’re making have no fiction to accompany them
>>
>>11290471
that too. it's gotta be profoundly odd for them. like there's no source material to look at anymore.

CHUG stuff is decently varied right now IMO. Yeah it could be better but compared to like 10 years ago it's been an improvement in terms of at least attempting to give us more characters in the cast.

Funny enough it's a lot of third party stuff that sometimes feels like it's treading water even though it used to be the other way around. Like 4 different companies trying to make a MP Devastator this year and FansToys releasing a Galvatron 2.0 instead of doing something more obvious like Rodimus Prime or something.

I can't read any of the japanese characters(been meaning to learn but I'm too lazy...), but the bottom of the picture does say "Amalgamation" and "Movable", which I assume is a somewhat clunky, broken english way of saying it can combine and transform. and like, just looking at the combiner limbs you can literally see individual robot limbs visible, shins have prominent robot crotches and thighs.
Only thing I'm wondering is how much combiner kibble there's gonna be. Hands and feet are a given, but I'm worried if it's gonna be an SS86 devastator situation where the entire waist and thighs are one big piece. and it's not like you can just turn that into a trailer and call it a day like you could with a bunch of construction vehicles.
>>

the lightpiping had better be good though. the fact that they didn't even fake it in this render is kinda.... concerning.
can anyone good in engineering tell me why the little gaps near his knees need to be there? it doesn't look as if the parts underneath (robot mode inner thighs?) extend out into the gap at all, so there could just as easily be plastic there.

One thing I like about Earth Wars (despite being a shitty gacha game) is that the designs are accurate enough that I can tell exactly what toy they're referencing, and it's cool to have T30, CW, FunPub, Energon, Arms Microns, G2, nu-WFC, Legacy, and MPG all rubbing shoulders

>It's a Fire Valkyrie
>But it's Optimus Prime again

Man why does Takara keep making these Crossover figs into Prime variants? If there's one thing that Hasbro does right with the Collaborative series is making all the toys OC characters. At the very least you could've gone full circle and made it Jetfire/Skyfire, which would've fit namewise.
>>
>>11290629
Or Blaster
>>
>>11290629
That is one thing Hasbro definitely has over Takara, their collabs feel like collabs rather than just making Optimus into a character from said series.

That being said I’m definitely getting Shield-D-Prime and I hope we get a Pepsi Convoy out of the United G1 toy mold
>>
>>11290629
I do agree in general, but at least from that image getting a weird hybrid design of a Valkyrie crossed with Optimus actually looks pretty cool instead of just "Here's [franchise you like] with an Optimus head stuck on top" or whatever. Hope we can get a better view of it soon.

>>11290572
Yeah, generic animu face stays in the box. Taking the transforming part of a Transformer is pushing it as it is; taking the robot out of a giant robot is too far over the line.

>>11290710
I don't know if it's really a Japan-thing beyond Transformers being less popular in Japan. "Only main hero gets toys" is pretty common for anything with merchandise. Once you get super popular like Dragonball for example you see Figuarts or whatever making toys of basically everyone.

interesting.
I guess in G1 the only main difference in the bad guys is they often have harsher colors, but in Beast Wars, the bad guys were always WAY more visually interesting. Way out there with colors and spikes and whatever.
same deal for Samurai Troopers / Ronin Warriors, but I'll admit there with the Irwin toys, I only bought the good guys.

It's still a landmark figure and I think it holds up to today. But ultimately it depends on what kind of collector you are. Do you need to get the authentic thing for it to feel right to you? Good luck actually finding a real one for a sane price nowadays. At the typical pricetags I see it go for you would just as well look for an official MP-44 variant you like at some point.

Lots of KOs out there going for like $70 or whatever and I find it hard to argue against that price, though at that point you might as well put it towards considering one of the 3P ones.

It's supposed to be - that's what the original anon meant by 'the wrong face'. There were reports of some of the 'dead' Ratchet and Ironhides were accidentally shipped using their 'alive' headsculpts instead, though it was a rare thing, and this appears to be one of those misprints.
>>
>>11290780
it has always been a male-dominated hobby, you neutered mongoloid.
>>
>>11290767
That is kind of amazing. he's screaming on the package and then in the box he's like 'meh.'
makes me wonder what Toy Story would have been like if it was actually about toys anyone under 60 owned, and if they covered stuff like that.. what would the personality be on a toy who is designed to be locked into one extreme emotion? would he always be screamy even when talking normally, or would he take "the kid is not here" time as an opportunity to relax and be really chill.
>>
>>11290827
Probably the latter, considering that in Toy Story the characters' faces aren't necessarily locked into the expression they default to when a human is around. He could be happy, laughing, and making wisecracks in his free time, only reverting to the ghastly screaming expression when someone's looking.

This >>11290856 . The new Transart Silverbolt is literally the exact same 90's toy with the exact same transformation - they just scaled him up to MP size, gave him updated joints, slathered him in silver paint, and added a fold-up paned on his wolf-bird chest to hide the gap that was left there on the old toy in alt mode.

The people that are into Beast Wars and the Unicron Trilogy don't have the money for them (for the most part) which is why they keep doing the G1 pandering like they've been doing for the last 10-15 years.
I for one am just sick of nostalgia pandering entirely. I'd personally like to see something new and confident that can stand on it's own two feet.

The only thing this reflects poorly on is the MPG price. He really is looking like a CHUG and that's not a terrible thing. I always wanted the PMOP update to happen, but I cannot justify paying as much as they're asking for basically the same quality (aside from paint apps) as an expensive mainline release.

Still doesn't stop it from looking good though.
>>
>>11290995
I would pay $50, perhaps even $60 for PMOP with his trailer. More is simply not justifiable to me.

MP60 wont suffer from a catastrophic qc issue that breaks it oob tho. looking at you xtb gravestone
>>
>>11291025
Yeah while he looks cool, he is not worth that much of a premium. I *almost* find the BW MP prices acceptable. I can only really speak to these because they're the only ones I bought that aren't a KO/improved version of the newer MP-36 Megatron. They started out decently reasonable. I think Primal was like ~$100? I could be wrong. But anyways, none of the BW MPs look like CHUG figures. I know someone will try to argue that, but having MP60 standing next to SS86 Prime and Armada Prime says by looks alone that basically this was a mainline figure that they couldn't fit anywhere so they threw more paint on it and added a tiny version of the power master that doesn't do anything to justify being an MP.
>>
>>11291025
That toy head looks like shit on a MP44 body and that Ginrai is absolutely atrocious.
>>
When you buy a new toy of a character, do you get rid of the previous versions, or do you keep an army of multiple versions?
>>
>>11291070
>do you get rid of the previous versions
Of course not, that would be stupid unless you hate that toy. Also this is not like some other figures were old versions just don't have anything to offer when a new one comes around, they can have different aesthetics and interesting transformation schemes.
>>
>>11291070

That's already expecting a lot. Ginrai is looking like it has all the MP downsides in that it's a fragile collector's display piece with a ridiculously inflated price, while looking like a CHUG without any of the playability of a well-built CHUG.
>>
>>11291251
Yeh.
Proportions are a mess and he suffers from the same thing most third party transformers who try to go for minimalistic cartoon aesthetics have, it looks extremely boxy and stiff. It's even more evident with a MP-44 mold at its side, just look how that one's shapes just feel softer, they just "flow". MPs have their own share of problems but as far as sculpt goes they just feel more dynamic even just standing there.

That third party Ginrai looks more like a guy in a homemade costume than the actual character.

I’ve got a lot of nostalgia for Energon, it was the first Transformers show I watched since G1, and I genuinely think Super Link is a good show. Can’t deny that it’s dumb though. A whole line of articulated quad-changer combiners? What made Takara think that was possibly going to work? If nothing else it was ambitious.
I’d argue though that most everything that wasn’t a combiner of some sort was good, and even some of the Powerlinx guys have a certain charm to them.

>>
>>11291324
To be fair, Powermaster Optimus has always looked pretty dorky, the KFC is actually pretty accurate to the Marvel comics look for the combined mode at least.

But aesthetic preferences aside people should swear off KFC/XTB for the simple reason that the stuff they make have fucking terrible transformation and fit issues like 70+% of the time. I'm still traumatized from their Menasor.

Aaron archer talks about how during the Beast Era, Takara kept trying to show gimmick ideas to Hasbro that just didn't work because there's less space on beasts than vehicles. The UT is basically them using years of ideas they couldn't do before, for better or worse.
Energon is peak growing pains because it's inbetween them trying to do gimmicks that work better with more g1 style bricks, and more articulated toys. If you imagine the Energon Autobots as more brick, Brave style toys, they'd work better.

There's a decent figure once in a while but if you think Transformers is bad with the redeco/repaints you should see how many ugly disproportionate motherfuckers there are in Marvel Legends because they insist on using the same body piece for like 20 releases or some shit.

>all of Asia
Not necessarily, Pulse Asia itself isn't really that big, just being Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan

The rest of Asia doesn't have Pulse if I'm not mistaken
>>
>>11291639
>>11291644
Huh, never realized that. Maybe they’re trying to find a better way to sell directly to Asia. I’m surprised they’ve never let Takara handle Asia, but I assume there’s some kind of contract against that
>>
>>11291614
also they had at least one designer who had no fucking idea how toys work because he was pitching dinobot turning into both a raptor and a snake or weird shit like that.
>>
>>11291617
now now, we don't want them on the government teat
they still get to work, they just get treated the same as men. see how they like it. also start turning that 'hostile workplace' bullshit back on them where it belongs.
then make good toys. in fact maybe just make good toys and whatever with the rest. There is no way this is going to be the last time society does a big dumb and makes up new dumb shit that ruins everything. it's gonna keep happening forever. Just enjoy good toys.

I disagree, and evidently so does the audience at large.

I redesigned Prime in MS Paint for shits and giggles, but I'm trying to think of what kinda melee weapon I can give him. I already figured out his ranged weapons (Rounded top of his Mack anthem alt mode becomes dual blaster-looking thingies. I hate how these are all somehow even worse in context
>Earthspark a total failure
It actually had a fanbase with S1 despite how fucking ugly it was, only for S2 to completely nuke all the goodwill it managed to cultivate with the downgrade in animation and the retarded plot.
>TF One a complete bomb
>Kills planned sequel talks
It was so easy to fix that but the dogshit trailer completely killed interest since everyone thought it would MCU tier shit
>Toy line for TF One failing
It's baffling how dogshit the "main" toyline for it is, almost all of it is gimmick cheap shit and it does nothing but drown the otherwise "fine" main robots.
>Reactivate dead

>find a better way to sell directly to Asia
That could be the case
With Europe its pretty easy, Hasbro already had a branch in the UK and all they needed to do was work with the EU and boom they now have access to markets in 27 different EU countries

With Asia there isn't really any large and unified economic union with similar laws to help establish markets in multiple countries. Since Japan is off limits due to Takara having full reign there, I would figure its probably been difficult for Hasbro to establish pulse in the rest of Asia
>>
>>11291705
The tone, the overly quippy dialogue, the voices.
they somehow managed to twist all of the scenes in the trailer to make the movie look like a self aware "comedy" action, which falls right in line with how the MCU is.
>>
>>11291709
Exactly this. TFone should've presented it's tone more honestly.
FFS there's a scene where a guy gets ripped in half
>>
>>11291655
>>Power Rangers dead entirely
and that one still manages to be the most bafflingly retarded fuckup, they had the perfect crossover served on a silver platter and they still managed to do literally nothing with it before unceremoniously shelving it.
>b-b-but bandai
Do a fucking repaint at the very least, PR fans at the time were so starved for a decent megazord i'm sure a repainted volcanicus could have still sold, or fuck, just paint prime with the dinozord colors and give him a dino looking sword and it still would have sold.
>>
>>11291698
The One toyline is baffling. The Prime Changers are actually decent toys in my experience but the lineup makes no fucking sense- They have Optimus and Bumblebee (makes sense so far), then Alpha Trion, Sentinel Prime and a fucking Quintesson. Yes, they didn't even make Megatron for whatever reason.

The Studio Series is also decent and you can consider them the "definitive" toys for One and they at least made some sense by releasing Optimus and Megatron, but Bumblebee and Elita-1 are still not out and they won't be out for another like 4 or 5 months. So you need to wait like half a year until after the movie is out of theaters to collect the 4 main characters. Elita-1 especially does not exist as a toy in any of the lines aside from this one so you can't even mix and match between the different lines or something. Doesn't really make a lot of sense if your goal was to get kids into the franchise.
>>
>>11291709
that's not what it looked like to me, or what I remember everyone in here saying it looked like, when talking about how misleading the trailer is.
>>
>Bumblebee but he looks like a Showa-era Kamen Rider, head-wise
Yay or nay
>>
>>11291713
I feel like Hasbro PR was doomed from the start because they already have a working relationship with Takara meaning a partnership with Bandai wouldn’t work very well. It makes me wish Mattel bought PR instead
>>
>>11291713
let's be real
power rangers has been squandered potential for 30 years. Saban is allergic to spending money and Disney practically invented screwing up a franchise you own the rights to. plus they put in a dyke in the absolute wrongest possible way

>They actually produce (1) single interesting gimmick idea for the line
>Proceed to still bury it in all of the other crap that has already shown to warm shelves anyways
Worst part is the prime changers are actually really good, the optimus is even comparable to the studio series in a way, it would be the perfect figure for a kid and yet it's borderline impossible to find since it's competing with all of the waves of gimmick crap they flooded stores with.
Sucks how even the one good idea they had is the least common one, these are actually pretty fun desu
