Lego Ideas approves The Smurfs set
will this be butcher'd down to one house with 3 Smurfs? (Papa, Smurfette, +1 generic unspecified Smurf) still big enough to cost $80-ish

or massive village with five houses for $400? still only 5 Smurfs? (Papa, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty, and... Clumsy)

also, the Idea submitted version uses all kinds of whack-ado building techniques, the "real" Lego design will be much different

anybody have a favorite Smurf that will no-way be included? my vote goes to Lazy Smurf, and Dreamy/Astro Smurf. those would be cool but no way will we get 'em. also Gargamel and Azrael minifigs won't be included because they can't be the same size as the Smurfs, duh

I just keep wishing Lego would take these battle cars and make them a sub-theme for City. Something akin to GTA or Rocket League. Ditch the Marvel license on the prints and just give us crazy cars that shoot each other. Maybe throw in some changing qualities as well. I liked the car Lola from the Detroit Steel set. No Marvel character logos, just a red convertible that had a flight mode.
>>
>>11612435
Yes. I've seen that the Megazord can be broken down into the five Zords. Kind of wish they included the Dragonzord as well so you could make more of the combos. But including Titanus might have been too much.

Probably a stupid question, but I didn't see it (at least not obviously) in the FAQ.

How hard is it to find the instructions on line if you buy a used set? I'm talking about simple crap like a "Mighty Micros" or really basic, uncomplicated things, not like the OP image.

Thanks, in advance.

Star Trek will 100% NOT be bought for children.
that's the only reason it's $400

if it's a toy for kids, it would have been $100 tops. maybe $120. but Lego is going to sell it to full grown, tech-science-engineer-job-having adults who grew up watching Trek. and if those people would buy it for $200, then surely they will buy it for $400. so why not make it $400?

there might be a few "rock star" of "corporate CEO" types who have $400 to dump on a gift for their kid. Here! it's the thing Daddy grew up watching! so maybe 0.0001% will be bought for an actual child

Allegedly, LEGO thinks it will be years before the DC Films are as popular as Marvel so they will keep pushing out minimal Batcrap and leave the complicated stuff to Star Wars, Spidey and what they think they can sell for hundreds.

Meanwhile, I'll spend the $200-300 I might have spent on a Daily Planet/Metropolis set on something else and treat my few LEGOs as a distraction to my toy collection, since I limit myself to just DC Toys 24/7 plus ONE outlier per year.

I just had to tape down a sticker because the sheet spent years folded in half and tucked between two instruction booklets. This hobby is such a mixed bag; you get opened boxes with pristine sticker sheets and a few missing pieces, and unopened boxes with all the pieces but damaged sticker sheets. I feel like I did pretty good considering the packaging tape I used kept picking up my fingerprints and random bits of debris that are very visible against white plastic, and so I trimmed away the parts that were. What a stressful ordeal.

I have been looking at Funwhole/Lumi sets and they are just better than LEGO. Not only when it comes to value but the quality is the same or even better and no stickers. LEGO has to take action in the near future if they want to stay on top.

I'll try not to write a whole essay, but...
Lego has "morality" on its side.

people recognize the other companies are ripping-off their bricks. blatantly. and it's different than screws and screwdrivers (the argument that lets rip-off companies copy Lego is basically you can't patent a measurement, but you can copyright a minifigure design, which is why the rip-off can't do them exactly)

it's human nature to protect things being attacked, as you would want to be protected yourself, if you were attacked. even though it's a corporation and money being attacked, people are inclined to defend it, unaware of the motivations.

to sum-up, people look at a rip-off set and think "what a dick move, I'm not supporting that. let's go buy a real Lego."
(not (you) of course, just people, in general)

Chinese companies and mega bloks were also known for years for "bad quality" and lego for great quality. Add also that Mega sets were more expensive than lego during the mattel era and you got a recipe for disaster.

Why. No one wants a mando N1. That playset scale set they made of it has been on clearance since it came out and discounted heavily.

I just want a normal yellow N-1 with chrome parts. Imagine if Lego bothered to make a true UCS version of it.

Shit a UCS of that starliner version from episode 1 would be cool too, no one is going to buy this shit and it will be discounted within a few months.

I keep seeing people say this over and over again and I have no idea what they're talking about. Do modern Lego bricks break more easily? Are the builds less sturdy? Do they look uglier to you because they try to show less studs? And how are we defining "modern" and what year does it begin?

Last sets I purchased were the Toy Story ones and just got back into Lego with their Sonic line and I think the latter sets look just as cool as the ones I owned as a kid.
>>
>>11613637
>Do modern Lego bricks break more easily?
Yeah.
Especially stuff like C-clips, one stud wide parts and Technic axle connectors are prone to hairline cracks. Hell, it seems like EVERY part can develop them by now and I've seen them on 2x3 bricks and 2x2 slopes that were connected once and left on the shelf for 2-3 weeks.

It's basically a general industry-wide issue with ABS plastic these days where they cheapen out on the components like softener which also results in a lot of those cracked joints you see in SHF, Figma and Robot Damashii threads.

>>
>>11613645
As for WHEN it started, my best guess is somewhere around 2005-2010.
You can see and feel the difference in the bricks from like the 80s and 90s and current ones.
The latter are shinier, aren't fully opaque when held against the light, feel less smooth when put together as if they're under stress afterwards (hence the cracks after a while) and much more.
You can feel the difference and there's one thing I keep telling people in case they have bricks from the pre-2000s around: put an old 1x1 on the stud of an old brick and GENTLY rotate it off. It should come off smoothly.
Now do the same with two new bricks - the 1x1 will plop off near the end as if the piece was under stress the whole time.

They never fucking bothered with DC. There are so many sets from DC lore that could be made and grab people's attention like a Hall of Justice, Flash Museum, something from Atlantis or Paradise Island or vehicles like Blue Beetle's Bug, the War Wheel, the Haunted Tank, the Whiz Wagon that'd all look amazing as sets but nobody at TLG actually cares about American comic books. Just movie shit and occasionally something from a cartoon. It's evident with their treatment of Marvel as well.

It's especially sad with how many displays I've seen at Lego cons that are comic inspired, and DC actually has built up a sizeable amount of comic accurate minifigures but they just never made an effort on the sets outside Batman.
>>
>>11613151
Peter and Miles are from different dimensions in the comics though. Miles is from Ultimates where Peter died.

Kids don't know or care. They just have a few dollars and know that they get more toy for less money. Old people think it's all Lego. The only people who care are the people who buy collectors sets.
>>
I noticed the Minecraft sets announced have a decent price to them, despite being a licensed theme. It occurred to me that they might be offsetting the price of some of the more kid oriented sets by overcharging for the Star Slop. I mean they know AFOL fags will pay through the nose for whatever shit they throw the Star Wars branding on, maybe they are using that to balance the profit margins so they keep the investors happy and can make sets kids want and can come closer to affording.
>>
>>11613898
When I was a kid I knew. Pyrates and Dragons were kino but the plastic quality was obviously not as good. Maybe ending up here means I wasn't normal though.

I have a good feeling about the 2026 Toy Story sets, bros.
>The long legs Woody used to have came back right after the 4 line ended
>5 will be about the rest of the toys that didn't get proper screentime in 4 so minifigs of them should be likely
>The small children 4's sets were aimed at are old enough for slightly more complex builds
>The rumor only mentions one 4+ and 18+ set each with the rest being unknown so the idea of a line that appeals to people of all ages is likely
>>
>>11614006
Yes

>We don't know yet how many toy story sets we will get in 2026, we only have listings for 2 right now. Imagine if some use smart bricks lol.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't surprise me if smart bricks were a part of it considering that the villain is a tablet. However, I can only really picture the tablet character being electronic to give it that "alien" feel that the movie seems to be going with while everything else hopefully stays the same. Another point against the smart brick's favor is that the sets that it seems it will be debuting in can be divided into two categories being A) guinea pigs such as Star Wars in which if it fails, the smart brick aspect will be abandoned while the line will continue on unimpeded by gimmicks and B) the lines that are clearly meant for it like Pokémon because it's an IP that heavily relies on its voices/sounds.

I chalk that up to them not wanting to go all out on Toy Story in order to have it better fit in with the rest of the 4+ train sets released around that time. You can call me saying that 5's line will be better cope but I can argue that the quality remaining the exact same from its two predecessors is equally unfounded.

sturdy ziplock bags + plastic storage tote + put the instruction book with it = closet/attic

rotate the sets on display, if you want the old set, get it out of the closet and rebuild it. you may want to try and keep it mostly-build, wrecking it just enough to fit in the bag/bin, or completely pull apart each piece, letting you get the build experience again.
