How embarrassing is it to be caught having cribbed something from another artist's style? Is it something I should just admit to when I try it?I'm improving to the level where I'm thinking about starting to post work online, but I'm not good enough that I've got a purposeful style nailed down. Every few months I'll suddenly notice something I hate and change it to be more like work I enjoy, but if this was all put side-by-side in a gallery you'd be able to pinpoint the exact moment I saw another artist's work and noticed something I loved too much not to emulate.I'm trying to be more humble and admit where other people have helped me improve, but I don't know any of the social rules around it. For all I know, admitting someone inspired you will get you accused of stealing while keeping quiet about it even when it's obvious is fine.

There's clear spots of style inspiration in certain periods of my art, and later on it branches onto my own interpretation of it.
