last i did anything with upscaler stuff was back in 1.5, assumed it just enlarges the image (i'm a bit slow) so i didn't bother with it.
rather than bighuge image, i'm looking for more details in a more compact resolution which hires steps sort of provides,and besides, actual artist drawing usually doesn't use giga canvas like that.
this has been very informative to me personally, i like learning new tools like this to play with

I mean, you're not wrong. That's 99% of what an UPSCALER does. Make image big and then do a small amount of sharpening or other minor shenanigans. Hires-fix IS NOT AN UPSCALER. It's upscale AND img2img pass.
Other than that, yeah, hires fix will typically improve quality and detail for a gen with minimal effort needed. It won't make it perfect but if you're not looking to effortgen it's definitely good enough.

that's true... i generalized too much. it does definitely helps to make the whole thing looks more polished and less sketchy with the lineart
i think my statements were a bit biased and anecdotal because i rarely do that mainly because drawing on a big canvas (after a lower res sketch phase) fucks up my perception of the whole image and i just generally hate drawing big strokes lol

It's not magic, AI models actually need to have been trained to recognize something before it can recreate it. 99.9% of literal who nobody characters only you've heard of can't be recreated by AI because the AI doesn't know them and has no data on who they are or what they look like. The 0.1% that can be made by AI only work because some one specifically made an 'add-on packet' about that character. The best you could get without one would be a generic purple feline with yellow eyes... which is probably good enough as without his clothes on that's literally all the character is.

So I wouldn't get too excited over the Indigomix Noob/SeaArt thing. I poked around it a bit, and while base XL artists did in fact have some observable influence this time, they're not strong enough to pull the generations more than a smidge their way. Even when I stacked 8 of them, the effect couldn't overpower the base style.

Another thing is that, due to it being an EPS merge, it doesn't recognize artists as well as VPred does, as you can see Nomax having almost no effect on EPS1.1. Finally, it's a bara focused model, with all the downsides of having to deal with disproportioned males barging into your gens.

All in all, I think I'll stick with what I have now. Thank you for letting me know it exists however.

Lora size isn't proportional to training data, the factors are usually the type of lora (like lycoris) and then your training network rank and alpha. 800mb is definitely overblown. You can also reduce bloated loras safely with https://github.com/elias-gaeros/resize_lora/tree/main
My lycoris with rank 16/16 end up like 100mb.

Hark which lora trainer do you use, kohya_ss? Im just giving this a try for the very first time, basically followed the Valstrix guide on civit, but right when the first epoch starts it dies with out of VRAM. Got a 12gb nvidia, and before I start kohya its all free ... do you have a tip what setting a newbie usually gets wrong that can cause this?

Your vram comes into play for batch and gradient accumulation, on my 3060 12gb I run batch 4 and gradient accumulation 2 atm and it doesn't crash.

not yet as it stated that they needed to be modified too, so I tried manually setting it up like described. Im on batch 1 and havent changed any advanced settings so gradient is 1
