The real time combat is quite a fun gimmick imo, I enjoy kiting the enemy and have found a lot of value in mons that can 'fly' (psychic types hover, some dragons just float, some unexpected mons can move through the air) and some moves come out absurdly quick and are worth keeping on even if they are maybe 10-30 power lower. A lot of 'big' battles want you to mega evo, but that's because "plus moves" are really strong and can be used on anyone, and mega evos get free versions of + moves for a bit of time on top of better stats. Still, you need to have the correct typing or get wiped most of the time. The story is alright, I don't think it's anything amazing. I really enjoy a lot of the sidequests and think they flesh out the world in a way that hasn't been done across most of the series, even the throw away dialogue with non interactable npcs has some bangers. That said, I think with the budget they could have compared to other series, this game is a solid 8/10 at best, and more realistically a 7/10. Am enjoying it as a fun and pokephile at the very least, but I don't think I'm shelling out $70+tip anytime soon. I really really like that alphas are back.
