going to soaplands has quite literally worked miracles for my japanese, both giving me a reason to continue studying and an outlet for interesting conversations that i wouldn't be able to have with colleagues from work, other foreigners, or the typical 20-questions asking 3 AM drunk at the izakaya salaryman. getting to fuck a cute girl is just a bonus. all of my friends ask me how my japanese has suddenly gotten better than theirs and i just chuckle and say i'm studying hard. seriously, if you're stuck just put down the books and start cooming, you won't regret it

i'm sorry but i have no interest in speaking with bored retirees that are just going to ask me the same shit over and over again every week.

cabaret clubs are boring and more expensive than cooming, they can easily take you in for 100k+ in just 2-3 hours the way they nickel and dime you. as a foreigner they WILL stick you with the ugliest girls as well. i don't recommend them to anyone. girls bars are a lot more fun of a vibe and i do go to them as well from time to time.

Going to japan for 3 weeks in november with my wife. Here's our itinerary:

Tokyo, Day 1-7
>Day 1-2: Stay in Shinjuku, explore neighborhoods, shop
>Day 3: DisneySea
>Day 4-7: Explore neighborhoods, I want to do a hike nearby? I'd love to purchase some good indigo dyed goods.

Izu, Day 8-10
>Day 8: travel to Shimoda, stay in ryokan + onsen
>Day 9: Going SCUBA diving in the morning, kaiseki in the evening
>Day 10: Travel to Osaka

Osaka, Day 10-14
>Day 10: Travel to Osaka and visit teamLAB exhibit at the botanical garden
>Day 11: Universal Studios Japan
>Day 12: Travel to Fukuoka to see the Grand Sumo Tournament, got box seats
>Day 13: Explore Osaka (maybe do a hike?)
>Day 14: Explore Osaka

Kyoto, Day 15-18
>I have nothing booked here, so I am open to recommendations
>I plan on heading to Sakai to purchase a chef knife (I love cooking and would love a japanese-style chef knife)

Tokyo, Day 19-21
>Day 19: Travel to Tokyo, stay in Roppongi
>Do anything that I haven't done/grab items I wanted to purchase
------

I'm unsure if I have too many "explore" days. I also have nothing booked while in Kyoto. I want to do a few hikes but don't know what to choose. We're pretty fit and hike the mountains where we live frequently.
I also haven't booked any restaurants yet. While I want to believe that we'll be able to just hop into a restaurant that catches our interest while exploring -- I worry that we'll feel overwhelmed when trying to find something to eat because we don't speak/read the language.

Should I book some more touristy things like Skytree and stuff? I feel like the theme parks are already pretty touristy, but I can definitely add things here and there during the explore days. I'm into fun/exciting things, and also cultural/slower things.

Regardless, I'm extremely excited for sumo and to go diving (along with everything else). Any recommendations are welcome and you can call me a normie tourist. It's my first time in Japan and I'll wear that proudly, kek.

The enjoyment of onsen is not limited to bathing in the hot springs; onsen towns have a unique atmosphere, and after bathing, visitors can stroll the streets in yukata, buy food, play retro games, and drink in the many bars. Hot springs deep in the mountains are especially blessed with scenic spots.

Yeah just ask at the lobby. They are extremely competent at it in my experience. Send your stuff to the next hotel the day before, and it will be there when you check in. Also very cheap, for me sending a large suitcase from Osaka to Tokyo was 2000 yen.

>>
>>2728672
At least as much as it costs to just have the hotels transport it for you. Taking a large suitcase on a bus or bullet train costs like 10-20 dollars more usually. On a plane it costs closer to 100. And that includes you having to carry all your stuff with you to the station/airport and then carrying it to your new hotel when you get to your next destination.
>>
>>2728653
Just check the hotel does it, have the address on hand and the phone number for your next hotel and pay the fee at the time.

Easy.

Anyone ever do the Kirby Cafe here? Not sure if I fucked up on my reservation due to sleepiness when doing it but managed to snag a spot for 2 people but when I tried to confirm it it asked for Katakana. My dumbass filled in the top slot with my name in katakana and my friends name in katakana in the 2nd. Only just realized they were asking for my name and then my name in Katakana for the 2nd slot. I can show them my email, confirmation number and obviously have the matching phone and passport has my name in English. Should I be fine? this makes me want to consider sending my luggage. I went with my BAS (big american suitcase) on three different local trains (to kill time and save money) between osaka and nagoya. This time i will fly down to nagasaki, and theres only a bus out of the airport. Train with suitcase is one thing, i dont want to burden niggas on the bus, even for two stops. Now, will these hotels send luggage all the way down to kyushu from tokyo and if so, is it crazy expensive? 2k sounds reasonable to osaka but this is like three times farther.

Unsure, lol. I had it written like this because I figure that Osaka has more unique things to see and do in the city compared to Kyoto? Obviously a lot of the old world establishments in Kyoto will be amazing to see and take my time in -- so I'm not brushing them off.

And two of my Osaka days are taken up by Universal and Sumo (fukuoka). Another day heading to Sakai would eat into my Osaka exploration even further. With no events/experiences booked for Kyoto yet, I felt I could burn a day to travel south a bit to Sakai.

I could be wrong about all of this, though. It's my first time there and I'm obviously ignorant of all that I can do.

locals do it all the time - what else it the average broke person supposed to do? as long as you are properly managing your shit and getting out of the way you're fine. Even better, try relying on less garbage in your life and try to live out of a large backpack instead of hueg suitcases
>>
>>2728785
If you're just doing it for a year and have savings, it's basically just a working vacation. Iirc JET and shit is not particularly demanding work, it's shit that fresh grads with zero teaching skills do. Cost of living isn't that bad either depending on where you end up too, so you could end up saving some money overall but probably a pitiful amount. I assume you basically speak zero Japanese or you'd be considering a real job instead. Might as well apply, it's not a big deal. Lots of people do it in all sorts of countries.

Felt like booking a trip at the last minute this year, I'm thinking of going from December 2nd to 21st. I might as well try to catch as much of the foliage as possible.
What confuses about the forecast dates is that I'm not sure exactly what they indicate. I'm seeing Tokyo listed as December 1st and Kyoto listed as 12/12, but does that indicate the start or the estimated mid point? I'm also unsure how long it even lasts, but from what I've read it's a couple weeks, in which case I'm guessing I'll be fine.
The forecasts all indicate that it's coming later this year due to higher temperatures, which seems like it has the added benefit of letting me avoid peak autumn tourist dates since most people booked earlier dates far in advance before the forecasts.
What I'm wondering is what the dates actually indicate and if visiting mostly Kanto and Kansai from December 2nd to 21st is looking good for foliage this year.

It's just how normies are. Who doesn't enjoy a nice day at a nice place with a nice view? But nobody is spending a whole day looking at that thing. The thing they enjoy most is the sun, the trees, the water, being on holiday, no work, no responsibilities, no stress, just freedom.
>>
>>2728603
it was pretty normal, I went to a tiny one somewhere in Shinjuku. My feet were wet from the snowfall last winter, and I tried going in my socks, but they made me wear shoes that were 3 sizes too small.

Signing up for a 3 day pass was simple
>>
>>2728790
besides eating and drinking, what do you do?

it's possible I can spend 4 weeks in Japan this winter, but I don't have a purpose for going there.

Vietnam has motorcycles for solo chuds, and that never gets old. Eating and drinking on the other hand...
>>
>>2728868
Onsens, ryokans, smaller/remote towns/locations, nature, temples, scenic train lines. Wandering around alone various areas is enough to satisfy me
>>
>>2728869
do you meet up with locals to do any of these activities? Or is it all solo? It feels like my trip last year, but a bit less degenerate. The Osaka crew I met said repeatedly going for walk and finding food to try all day is the Osaka thing to do
>>
Is every Japanese guy named after a city? Like
Kyle Higashioka, the baseball catcher. There's a city in Japan named Higashioka. Hayao Miyazaki, the anime director. There's a fucking city named Miyazaki too. What gives?
>>
>>2728873
What are you named after? I'm named after a place that no longer exists on the map :'(
>>
>>2728873
my Japanese sensei's name was Matsumoto, there's a city in Nagano with that name as well
>>
>>2728858
I was reading about that earlier, I'll definitely try cafes along the way
>>
>>2728871
I keep to myself mostly unless someone initiates something. No whoring, no degenerate levels of drinking because it blocks me from enjoying my limited time there. I'm not a local and not really into willfully pushing into their world. Feels wrong. It's nice observing the Japanese go about their lives removed from it.
>repeatedly going for walk and finding food to try all day is the Osaka thing to do
Absolutely - burn off a ton of energy and calories exploring on foot. Find some good food and keep going. Japanese portions allow you to enjoy a collection of foods

>Ghibli Park
I wanted to go to Ghibli Museum but tickets were a gongshow to get and I unfortunately missed out on them. But perhaps Ghibli Park is a good backup option.
>>
>>2728883
Likewise. My dumbass didn't think they would sell out after only being up 2 days. Oh well, guess I'll check out the park then
>>
>>2728884
2 days? Bro, it sold out within the hour, lol.
Problem with November is that the museum is only open for half of the days in the month. Only two of my tokyo days is when the museum was even open, unfortunately.
>>
>>2728880
good fucking God, you are unbelievably soulful
>>
>>2728738
If you don't know, ask at the tourist information center in front of the station.
>>
>>2728880
Is this post real or satire.
>>
>>2728890
The little simple things in life are the most fucking beautiful. The Japanese have this figured out. It keeps them going. It's why I enjoy being around them. There's this silent agreement. No words needed between us. Hope you enjoy your trip if you end up going.

everything on this site is satire - I'm behind multiple layers of irony

>going to Japan with my wife next week
>managed to book the kirby cafe
>it was my idea
>I'm 10 years older than her

Why is kirby so fucking cute and fun? It's like looking at that stupid pink ball just erases all the stress of adult life from my brain
>>
>>2728869

How do you decide where to go, what small town to head towards, etc? I've always wanted to go do this but I get FOMO and just stay in the bigger cities. I like nature but haven't really gone outside my comfort zone, only sticking to well known places like Mt Takao etc.

>>2728850

Interesting, I'll check it out. Anything good besides the lake? Unique food or something?
>>
>>2728793
Eating and drinking on board is allowed only on Shinkansen and long‐distance trains.
Eating and drinking on metro and suburban trains is insane.
It would be tolerated on local trains in the countryside where there are few passengers.
>>
>>2728888
I only had one day that I'd be able to make in November. I got to the point of selecting the day and time, but page failed to load multiple times trying to get to the payment screen. After a while of attempts and the time slot flipping between taken and open, it finally stopped being available. It's good to go in with the mindset of not caring if you get a ticket.

man I fucking love meeting tourist girls in Japan who are in their "yolo I'm on a holiday" mode
such easy lays
got some good Korean pussy last night

Why would you regret such a thing lmao. If you were okay with having sex with a 40 year old chinese woman then you could have just said yes when they pester you on the street, it's not like you missed out on a big deal. It became routine for me to have to reject a handful of those every night when walking back to my hotel when I stayed near Kabukicho

Any good Internet cafes in Sapporo?

Why not use Tateyama or Kamogawa as a base for sightseeing in the Boso Peninsula?

I want to stay at an onsen ryokan WITHOUT private onsens. I want to be naked with a bunch of strangers including women as part of the immersive Japanese cultural experience. So mixed gender and no towels etc. Can you recommend me any in the Kanto or Kansai or Chubu or Chugoku regions?
>>
>>2728622
So no advice? Guess i'll go to the same one again, saves time trying to find a new one that could be worse.

I jacked off in the ネットカフェ&マンガ喫茶 DiCE 札幌駅南口店

I mean what do you want to hear...a hotel is a room with a bed and bathroom. They don't differ much.
>>
>>2728697

>>
>>2728734
Is it different there at night?
>>
>>2728961

>>
A kathmandu nowaki 32L that I got like 8 years ago. It doesn't really matter what bag you have, just pack less shit.

What size suitcase should I fill for 2 weeks in Japan?
>>
Anyone wanna meet up for Halloween in Osaka later? We can grab konbini drinks and take selfies with kawaii costumed girls.

>>

yesterday I got off my train 1 stop early because I saw the only other fucking gaijins on the carriage (who got on the same place as me so were almost certainlt doing the same journey) get their luggage off the racks. My brain then told me that it was my stop and I autopiloted off the train. they didn't even need to tell me the wrong info to troll me. thankfully it was only 20 mins to the next train

Is there anything going on around Tokyo?
