Anyone arrive near midnight after a long haul flight to Thailand? I've always arrived in the early afternoon and wondering what it's like to arrive at midnight. The country folk are having their sidewalk market on this gorgeous 23 C Sunday morning in Kabin Buri. It's great to be able to turn off the A/C and open the window for fresh air.

As far as beards go, it does appear true that first impressions are far more positive when clean-shaven. That being said, your good conduct in the streets and your appreciation of Thai food will win the friendly approval of locals regardless of your unconventional appearance. Ban Klong Luk - terminus of the East Line - is an hectic shithole devoid of the graceful appeal of most small Thai cities. No white backpackers in the hostel, no kitchen either...it's just a place to crash out for 250 baht a night. If you want to be right in the middle of all the action, you can stay in the beach road - buakhao area but it tends to be more expensive and most quality accomodations in terms of comfort and value get booked early, so it's harder (but not impossible) to find someplace good at a good price
If you want to be close to the action but still enjoy a calm neighbourhood with everything you need including gents clubs, the beach and bars, with prettier surroundings and where it's easier to get a nice room in a good view, go to pratamnak (probably the best choice)
If you want calm and isolation go to wongamat (but be ready to rent a vehicle or use grab any time you want to go downtown), it's got quieter beaches and a lot of high-end sea-view condos but it's not party central and getting to the baht bus can be a pain in the ass if you're staying close to the beach
If you want "pattaya-lite" with cheaper prices and a more relaxed atmosphere go to jomtien

From both pratamnak and jomtien you can hop on a baht bus easily to get dropped anywhere on pattaya 2nd road, a lot of people (including me) prefer to stay there for the more comfortable setting and ease of access to pattaya city

with all that being said, if it's your first time in pattaya I'd recommend staying closer to buakhao at least for a few days to experience the craziness and for the practicality of only needing to walk a few minutes to reach any cooming venue of your choosing

Yesterday evening I arrived in pattaya and walked through Soi 6, Soi buakhao, tree town, walking street, and along the beach.
One big ass loop pretty much for about 4-5 hours.

Soi 6 was like a big Soi cowboy. Women shouting, pulling, and some literally forcing me into their bar and not letting me out. It's getting really annoying. Kind of fun at first but I might not go back any time soon because it was a bit much and they weren't really appealing anyway. One girl aggressive enough to be really pressing her body against me and kissing my neck then pecked my lips had a bad case of cock breath or something. God damn. At least she was 20 and thin. Many women are fat, old, or have a generally jacked up appearance like they're giga poor and actually needy or something. Whoever says Thais serve skimpy portions has never left the farang ghetto. Out here, portion sizes can be gut-bustingly huge. I guarantee you're overthinking it. The main things are that she has a basic level of English and that you have a good rapport and genuinely like each other's company. They’re small potatoes compared to Angkor itself, but the (mostly restored) Angkorean ruins in NE Thailand are absolutely worth seeing, for snapshots of ancient life on the fringes of the Khmer empire. Even better IMO is the Sukhodayan city of Si Satchanalai, not far from Sukhothai, which is largely an overgrown ruin and is often not crowded. The modern city of Phitsanulok isn’t far, and it’s underrated IMO. The main wat there is old and significant.

So I'm planning a trip to Thailand this winter, never been there before, so I need some advice on how to plan it. Basically I'm considering two options right now:

There is that "floating railway" causeway in Lopburi province that is being promoted as a weekend excursion via rail. The monkeys in Lopburi are worth seeing as well. Also the Kanchanaburi line to Nam Tok, it's a very popular excursion. If you want to see pristine nature versus the Thai countryside (rice paddies, tree farms and savanna pastures), you'd be better off taking a full-day national park tour from Bangkok.

A lot of Thai eateries serve common dishes with same-old unoriginal flavors, but not all. This unremarkable owner-operated eatery next to a highway serves some of the tastiest made-from-scratch dishes I've eaten anywhere in the country. Kicker is, their prices are lower than many other places. Pad see ew with shrimp squid octopus and multiple veggies for 60 baht. Whereas that old barmaid a few days back tried to charge me 80 baht for chicken pad see ew which was 50 baht on the menu. Bitch I'm not some lonely old boomer who's gonna pay you to keep me company.
