>Dead coaster edition

>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Disney discussion of all sorts including rides/resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.

Thread Tip Pro: Ride every coaster every year, as it may be gone next week.

I don't know if I buy their reasoning. It doesn't make sense to not announce that that it would be removed. Everyone would flock to the park if they knew that and it would be free revenue.
>>
It really is so weird to have literally the tallest roller coaster in the world, a huge deal, and just close it with no announcement.
>>
When Universal is planning to close an attraction they announce it at least 2 months out to allow the fans enough time to get to the park to say proper goodbyes.

They even capitalize on it by releasing limited edition farewell merch.

Six Flags will always be bush league

Blackpool Pleasure beach just completely tore down their Wooden Wild Mouse overnight in the close season without any announcement. They haven't replaced it with anything either.

It's annoying as hell as it was a classic historical ride (one of those, "Am I about to die?" ones) and there's now only a single wooden wild mouse left.
>>
>>2733770
Apparently Saudi parks aren't built that well.
>>
>>2734026
Six Flags normally did announce major closures, which leads me to believe they have some reason for the quiet closure - such as an announcement of future plans for it. Could just be wanting to minimize criticism too, though.
>>
>>2734155
probably unsafe. that park is notorious for horrific deaths caused by negligence.

would you ride it if it still existed?
>>

What are the deaths not related to the haunted castle fire (started by some dipshit teenager trying to smoke)

Imagine going on a ride so weak and forceless that it doesn't even have a hot nurse stationed at it 24/7. LMAOing at boomers, xoomers, millennials, and zoomers.
>>
>>2734182
I really hope someday we see a modern recreation of it
>>
>>2734184
A modern version of it would just be a low-tier GCI, unless you kept the original layout to 100% accuracy in which case no one except some thoosie billionaire with a giant backyard would be insane enought to even consider building it.
>>
>>2734170
i wouldn't blame the teenager, i would blame the retards who decided to use highly flammable foam(the same type that caused the station nightclub fire) and who chained and blocked off the emergency exits.
>>
>>2734244
Most materials people are around and interact with every day are flammable. I would blame the teenager for trying to light a cigarette in an area where smoking was prohibited.

>and who chained and blocked off the emergency exits.
There's no evidence of that being the case.
>>
>>2734169

No, I'm not going to watch your shitty documentary, investigators found no evidence exits were chained shut
>>
>>2734245
now you're being obtuse the same exact material responsible for one of the deadliest fires resulting in 100+ deaths (station nightclub)because of its illegal and negligent use is not the same as other flammable materials.
>>
>>2734257
this is the online equivalent of putting you fingers in yours ears .

multiple witnesses that were there at the park that day coorborated some exits being chained, but they were nto called to testify. there was a metal fence erected blocking visitors from accessing several of the exits as well.

there was also not fire alarms or sprinkelrs another shared factor with the notorious station fire.

charges for manslaughter for the park executives ended with plea deals
>>
>>2734258
>>2734262
Investigators found no evidence of chained fire exits and that means more to me than your indie shitflick.

>>2734289
do you work for six flags corporate or something?
>>

>the corrupt investigation about criminal negligence that was allowed to happen due negligence of the township didnt find something that means it didnt happen.

we have onrecord from witnesses that they were chained, just because one investigation didnt include it and these witnessed were nto called to testify doesnt mean it didnt happen. also good on you for ignoring all the other factors of negligence and the outcome of the trials. weirdo defending big corporation who lets kids die.
>indie shitflick.
award winning documentary that is an excellent display of true independent journalism
>>
>>2734297
If the witnesses' accounts were credible, they'd have testified in court. There's a reason they didn't make it that far. Still not watching your conspiracy-minded indie shitflick.

Anyone been playing the new Planet Coaster? I haven't played it yet but here's a screenshot of one of my old attempts at building a "lifelike" coaster (I'm a talentless retard with no creativity)
>>
>>2734392
It's okay overall. Not much of an upgrade over PC1. It's missing a lot of the theming options we got with the base game in PC1 which is disappointing. I assume their plan is to nickel and time the living shit out of customers with the DLC packs adding all of that back in. They also did some scummy shit off the bat like making the haunted mansion ride system a pre-order bonus. So if you buy the game now you can't make the haunted mansion...not that there's a horror theme in the game anyways

Slinky Dog is a great family coaster, keep coping. It has a very low ride height requirement and is thrilling enough to be fun but also isn't too scary for kids to ride. It checks all the boxes for a great family ride.

>>
>>2734783
As the others said, Slinky Dog doesn’t belong. Mack isn’t exactly known for intense launches and the ones here are tamer than tire launches on other family coasters like Firechaser Express. It has a boring layout with bunny hills that have no airtime because it goes so slow. I even think it was designed to go faster and was intentionally slowed down for capacity reasons (but can obviously still make the course). It’s a waste of magnetic launches.

I’m guessing you’re excluding accelerator and similar coasters, and also impulses. But the Premier LIM shuttle coasters are-were pretty darn good. Volcano was iconic. Cheetah Hunt gets no love for being Maverick Jr. but it’s a fun one, certainly it belong on this list in place of fucking Slinky Dog. I am glad Slinky Dog exists to absorb all those morons that don’t know any better.

I like Cheetah Hunt too and think it's a great ride, same for Firechaser. But when you have small kids Slinky is great which is why I provided the caveat of FAMILY coaster. It's obviously outclassed by bigger meaner rides.
>>
>>2734812
The theming is pathetic for an E-ticket disney attraction. And if we're going by the coaster itself, Manta at SWSD is the same model, also family-friendly, and absolutely mogs Slinky Dog.
>>
>>2734887
>Big Bear Mountain
>Firechaser Express
>Pegase Express
>Gold Rush
>(soon) Hiccup's Wing Gliders
All of these are family launched coasters with roughly the same height requirement as Slinky Dog, aren't total snoozefests unlike it, and don't require forcing your kids to sit through a disney-length queue to ride.
>>
>>2734937
Hiccup's is going to have disney-length queues for a while
>>
>>2735080
Nah, could have capacity close to Hagrid's but won't be anywhere near as in demand. Wolfman (another launch coaster) and Donkey Kong are going to be the ones with the big queues

Riding Radiator Springs Racers made me wonder, are there any other rollercoasters that have a triple bunnyhop that increase in severity each time like that does? I know there are a bunch of multiple bunny hop coasters but they all tend to be the same height.

It's a fun element which isn't too extreme but gets funny reactions when someone gets the losing stomach feeling on the penultimate hill and realise they have the final one that'll be even worse.

You just need to maintain or increase speed by continually decreasing elevation (like LR) and/or contouring each successive hill to make it a little more intense than the previous one.

Zippin Pippin has a single hill near they end of its bunnyhill finale that needed a slight profiling adjustment to provide clearance for a train, and because of that, it provides Magnum levels of ejector after multiple floater hills.
