But those are the books that westerns were based on until about the mid-1990s, and a few generations in a row grew up watching them and the tv shows by extension, and think thsts actually what the wild west was probably like. It was not, we have historical records describing daily life and major events in great detail, usuakly from many sources and perspectives. The real shit is far more interesting than any feature length movie could ever squeeze in, it makes no sense to even try.
