Westerners have a problem in that making anything for kids is seen as beneath them despite how much money it makes. No animation in the west is because society is tailored to hate children and be as anti-child as possible. So no artists or animators want to make cartoons and no studios want to make cartoons, especially when animation is more expensive on top of everything else.

The way that I've seen it for a while is this.In Japan, animation and manga are considered just another medium of story telling, but in the West they are considered as lesser forms, comics and cartoons.Occasionally you get animated shows that are adult, but they are rare and considered as being above and unlike the genre, as if them being good is the exception.Recently... which I'm now seeing was in 2019, Love Death + Robots came out. And while there are good episodes in there, since it is an anthology, there are also episodes that feel like the people making them are embarrassed so they stuff them full of sex and violence.
