Obi wan has more ground

Other than being incredibly meanworthy, what a disappointing end to a decent duel. It was probably a bit too long and you can see Lucas wanted to have his swinging sword fight like some Eroyl Flynn movie, but man it could have been way better.

The high ground isn't made up, it's an advantage and has won many real life battles

He's talking about moral high ground.
Obi-Wan openly stated that he's on the side of good and good always triumphs
>>
>>198526964
You do realize that the lightsabers just channel the force, right? The little stick at the bottom doesn’t have enough leverage to hold the beam very well. The duelists uses the force to help swing the blades and it focuses their duel so they aren’t awkwardly grappling each other.

The low ground means down a gravity gradient. Since lightsaber battles use the force, the low ground duelist gets a nerf on his force.

wrong!

Are there people who aren't aware that being higher is almost always a tactical advantage in any kind of fight

How did obi wan do It but anakin stuffed up
>>
>>198527118
Yeah. With guns and infantry. Not a one on one sword fight.
>>
>>198527957

He took advantage of arrogance in both cases. Obi Wan's humility is his power.
>>
>>198528002
Yeah I kinda knew the answer. Did you see obi wan slip in the phantom menace because he was toying with maul
>>
>>198527966
If you play Age of Empires you do get Elevation Bonuses on 1 vs 1 sword combat if one of the untis is higher up.
That means it also happens IRL.

Because Darth Maul had Obi-Wan dead to rights, he had no light sabre and was hanging off some doo hiki, there was no easy way for Maul to deal with him and he likely forgot that Qui-Gon dropped his light sabre, basically as Obi-Wan jumped over Maul he used the force to grab his master's sabre and kill Maul in one move he never saw coming.

Now because Anakin was armed with a light sabre and could only jump directly at Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan did not have to think about a response, or what was coming, there was no element of surprise, he even tells Anakin not to do it because he knows whats going to happen.
>>
High ground is a real advantage. It's not the only thing that decides a battle, but in this case it makes sense. They were both fighting as equals for most of it, and Anakin had little choice at that point, so the advantage stands out.

Besides the moral high ground metaphor, Obi Wan is also trying to convince Anakin to stop fighting, giving him a change to surrender.
>>
>>198528148

That's why he said it. Yes it sounds kind of out of place, that's because Obi Wan was trying to end it before someone died. It was a peace offer, and actually ended up baiting Anakin into a stupid move. Were Obi Wan a more manipulative man he might have tried something like that earlier.
>>
you people are putting a lot more thought into this than the people who made the movie. no wonder they made so much money, you will accept any slop and lie to yourself that it's deep
>>
>>198527118
>>198527966
It was very obviously an arbitrary moment to end the duel. Obi-Wan and Anakin are evenly matched the entire time, no move in the choreography ever suggested a close call, and they even spend part of the fight on that pillar where Obi-Wan (or Anakin; one of them) is vertically above the other person.

>ITS OVER OBI-WAN. I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND.
>>
>>198528285

There actually is. At one point Anakin attempts the move that ended Dooku, but Obi Wan is ready for it and parries it, because he literally taught him that. If it feels evenly matched it's because it's the exact same fighting style going 1 on 1 and on some level neither of these guys actually want to kill the other, just teach them a lesson. It isn't novel to point out that it seems like a stalemate, it obviously was, and the only way it could end was some foolishness.

If anakin had just stepped on the highground he would have flogged obi wan

Ranged units suffer a massive accuracy loss when shooting upwards… It’s pretty much an automatic loss. This applies to the lightsaber as well because the laser is actually projected a distance away from the hilt.
>>
>>198528442
There is nothing deeper to this than George Lucas wants the lightsaber battles to look cool. Same as the retarded "Jedi in their prime" prequel cope. If the technology made it possible for there to be backflips and twirls in the 80s, he would have done it.
>>
>>198528426
Should have had Maul sit down and start doing some force psychic mind attack
>>
>>198526964
It parallels Obi-Wans fight with Maul. Anakin tried the same move that killed Maul but Obi-Wan was prepared having used it himself.
>>
>>198528478
No one cares about your cringe low-fi reddit game, I was just dunking on a redditor and showing him that "the high ground" is a globally accepted concept. We are not the same.
>>
>>198528748
You’re trying too hard.
>>
>>198526964
Did he really need to leave the platform? Couldn't he just keep floating around and jump in somewhere else? He clearly got nerfed to let Obi Wan win.
>>
>>198528465
Morality isn't subjective, even if Anakin thinks it is. He was wrong, and refused to accept that fact.
>>
>>198529870
>Morality isn't subjective
From my point of view it is.
>>
>>198526964
Did you not notice that the minute before this stand-off, they were fighting vertically, one literally above the other, but then they have a stand-off and now a gentle slope is all-important.
>>
>>198527966
nigga if youre on higher ground with a sword and some dude runs at you
>he has to climb the hill, it extra effort on him
>he has to secure his footing, so he wont slip
>you can bash him over the head while he's climbing up

THIS
It is literally a quality over the defender (who has high ground) in every melee battle.
>>
>>198527771
No. Uphill battles are almost always won in favor of the high ground. Zoomers are retarded.
