>>198535778Wasn't there a membership service like this and it went bankrupt?
>>198535778>What if McDonald's sold cutlery>What if Coca-Cola sold windows
There's literally nothing stopping a movie theatre from projecting Netflix movies and charging for it. Absolutely nothing.
>>198535778will there be penis inspection?
>>198535778Just as bad as an Amazon theatre where they forcibly inject everyone with Amazon Pharmacy estrogen
>>198535778Can they afford it? As far as I know they're barely making any money with their current business model.
>>198535850Yeah there is. No one wants to see the movie that are on netflix
Would it even be legal for Netflix to own such a theater? They could license the Netflix brand to someone like AMC but my understanding is that there were laws passed long ago that prohibit studios from owning movie theaters directly. The reason was to prevent a studio from being able to control which movies the public could view by controlling all the movie theaters in an area.
>>198535842>what if Coca-Cola started soda barsThis is what you're thinking.
I miss the DVD delivery. Nothing was better than getting off the bus in high school and seeing two of these bad boys in the mailbox on Friday.
>>198535778Netflix already has licensed some movies to theaters, I think they briefly played with the idea of opening buildings but would rather stay strong in their dominant space. They have a pretty good working relationship with chains already, actually, as does Amazon. They and the theaters worked together well during the pandemic when releases were slower and there may even be some additional opportunities post SAG/SWG strikes. I'll say the relationship between theaters and streaming services is not even remotely as adversarial as outsiders like to imagine it is. Hell, most of the studio companies with streaming services have been scrambling back to theaters after realizing they couldn't brute force streaming services into being as profitable as ticket revenue.Source: Used to work for one of the big 3 US theater chains at corporate.
>>198535778Just what we need more payment models.
>>198535842>>What if Coca-Cola sold windows?????????????
>>198535778If it meant no black people, people would go back to the movies again
>>198535778isn't the whole point of netflix that you don't have to go to the theater to watchit's even in the name: "net" flix
>>198535778That's kind of cool actually. All you need to get in is be with someone with a Netflix subscription or you can just pay an entrance fee. If they did this, made it more fun than your average movie experience, and didn't upsell concessions this would legit be awesome. Imagine the chaos that would ensue at the Netflix Theaters. It would be the Waffle House of theater chains.
Theaters that are owned/run by Netflix and only show Netflix movies exist in NYC & LA. They are designed solely so that the turbo boomers who vote for awards, that don't have netflix and think movies are only legitimate if they're in theaters, can see Netflix movies. The public can buy tickets to any showing at any time and almost never does.
>>198536080Absolutely. Mix that with a Gamefly and your night is set
>>198535778that sounds like a logistical nightmareNeetflix has already been troubled for years with account sharing, imagine showing up the netflix theater and needing to provide your ID/social security card number
>>198535882Possibly in europe as patrons could smuggle in outside food and drink in their foreskins but I don't think americans will need to worry about that.
>>198536655>>198536653Moreso than movies I think it might be nice to do group watch-alongs for anime seasonsSatuday is Card Captor Sakura day for example
>>198535778They'd lose a lot of money on the license to show all those movies to the public.
It would only work for exclusive movies only releasing for 2 months and being churned to the platform later. And maybe marathon festivals:>Come Goon on Wednesday Adams! Showing all episodes this Friday
>>198535778Interesting idea but society is not ready for it.
>>198536747If I was in charge of Netflix I would make it a large cineplex with a bunch of different smaller screens with smaller seat numbers that are playing a bunch of different Netflix and design it so that you could spend all day there if you wanted, going in and out of any screening rooms you wanted. Make it kind of like growing Netflix in person. fuck I should get into business, what have I been doing with my life.
>>198536916they'd probably become homeless shelters unless the subscription fee was very expensive

>>198537398Every time it's been tried in America, the service hemorrhages money and then gets shut down in a couple years. The only people that buy it are the people that were whales, so it actually loses them a ton of money every time someone subscribes.

>>198537747take a hike, bozo
>>198535778On a wide scale, absolutely not. Netflix appeals to people because they can sit at home, in bed, eating slop, trying to fuck their partner, and relaxed. It would just increase netflix's overheads and few people would show up - not enough to justify that tiny amount of additional revenue it would bring.BUT on a small scale, like 2 or 3 locations, it could be really kino.Start with LA, NYC and London. Put a ton of effort into making the locations a proper competitor to imax. Do something to separate themselves (like using led screens instead of projectors). Tickets are relatively cheap but you have to be a subscriber.Always has a screening room for whatever the most popular film on the netflix charts is.Some netflix films would really benefit being seen in the cinema (like The Killer or Roma). And they often need to give their films limited releases for awards eligibility anyway.
Hear me out: theaters with access to the entire Netflix catalog, right? Naturally Netflix original movies and shows are on every week, and it works like a gym membership: if you have a subscription you just scan a card by the entrance and you're in. The subscription, of course, gives you access to the full Netflix content on your tv, so you're paying for the big screen, really. Every week, you can vote through an app to pick a few out of a choice of 20-30 movies that will be shown on the theaters, which give you an opportunity to see classics on a bigger scale than usual.
>>198537986That sounds, and I'm trying not to be too harsh here, but that sounds like the most miserable, pointless thing I have heard of in quite some time.
>>198537702they show classics every 2 weeks so it's worth it for me for that alone, new releases are just a bonus for free.
>>198535842>What if Volkswagen sold sausages?
>>198535778this would be a great idea if we locked the doors behind them and filled the netflix theater with zyklon b
>>198535839MoviePass was a retarded idea because they weren't run by the theaters and so still had to buy the tickets. The unlimited ticket subscriptions the theaters do are pretty good and work because there's a good chance you'll buy snacks especially because your tickets are basically free after the first two so you feel more comfortable buying snacks.I spent 9 hours at a Regal last Saturday and plan to do it again tomorrow and next Saturday
>>198535778An immensely stupid idea. Netflix doesn't gain anything from this, and only loses. Think about. They need to spend hundreds of millions, or maybe even billions either building new theatres, or buying and converting older ones. Then apparently only letting subscribers use it? How does that work? Turn away the dudes who don't have a subscription? Have them pay more for the privilege? What it all leads to is empty theaters. Even more empty than cinema currently is anyhow. The whole appeal of Netflix (and other streaming services) is getting content served to you at home. This is truly the most retarded fucking idea I've read in a long time. And I've seen some shit.
>>198537603No it's not illegal. I can invite anyone to my house to watch a movie on Netflix. I can also charge people for this experience. It's perfectly legal, because Netflix doesn't limit how many people can view a movie from a Netflix account. Free market economy, so I can charge people for this experience. Of course, I will highly competitive with theatres in that my movie tickets will only be a few dollars. The advantage is you get to see movies projected on the big screen with a nice sound system. I'm thinking of charging $3 per ticket.Imagine how much money you could make rescreening Tarantino films.
>>198535778The quality of Netflix sucks ass and would look and sound terrible in a theater. Also the point is to watch any movie or show you want comfortably for a long as you want or if you want to stop halfway through and do something else and pick it up later.
>>198538420> I can invite anyone to my house to watch a movie on Netflix. I can also charge people for this experience. No, you cant retard. Lots of bloom. They're great for events before of the modular nature of LED arrays.
