idk what's keeping his nose together, the nose he ended up with is kind of smooshed on the tip

I thought he looked and was cooler and more rugged in jedi like if steve mcqueen played a jedi in the 60s. It fit him. Plus the green saber and black outfit were based. Only thing I thought was weird was han acting more like a weenie. It reminded me of how personalities switched like in bergman's Persona
>>
>>198593778
this is him on Mike Douglas Show around the time of the first movie just before the crash
>>
>>198594346
Damn the car crash aged him like 10 years.
>>
>>198591425
They worked miracles. That crash was every bit as bad as it was initially described (his nose was hanging off by a thread, lost half his teeth, nearly lost an eye). It looks like they reconstructed his entire right eye orbital structure too from the Empire-period photos. He'd grown into it by Jedi.

If the holiday special he seems to be covered not only in a thick layer of grease-paint but literally barbie-doll like plastic prosthetics and possibly even a wig. He plays a support side-lined role in a show where he, as an enthusiastic song and dance guy (go watch his Empire Muppet Show appearance), should have been center stage (and saved poor old Harrison from his savage embarrassment).

>>198591425
That's easily one, if not, the best face reconstruction surgery of all time
The surgeons put all their soul into it considering how fucked up was the accident
>>
>>198592271
I think the attempts they made to cloak that side of his face actually improved Empire's cinematography. Lots of great dramatic lighting mixed with Peter Suchitsky's pastel soft-filtering gives the whole thing a far more dreamlike quality that the others.

And it did "mature him up" a lot too.

Oh yeah, he should be sending his surgeons Christmas (Hanukkah, who are we kidding here, kek) Cards every year for the work they did.

The work's so good I suspect these were psyop/spook tier guys who make spies look like different people etc. Probably why they had to hush it all up so hard.

Meanwhile every other celeb during that period got progressively worse and worse and more obvious work done to kind of offset how good they were getting at this stuff.

No, it wasn't

>It’s strange and not a little eerie to think that Star Wars was almost Hamill’s final film as well as his first. On January 11, 1977, a little over five months before the film’s release, Hamill was driving his new BMW along a freeway in Southern California, fast – while listening to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, of all things. He realised he was about to miss his exit, and swerved, hard, across four lanes in an attempt to reach it.

>The car flipped onto its side and rolled off-road. Hamill broke his nose and both cheekbones. The face that cinema-goers around the world were about to get to know – was gone. “I just woke up and I was in the hospital, and I knew that I had hurt myself very, very badly,” he said in 1978. “And then someone held a mirror up to my face, and I just felt that my career was over.”

>Surgeons were able to repair much of the damage, using cartilage from his ear to rebuild his nose. But the difference between his appearance in Star Wars and in the teen comedy Corvette Summer, which he made six months after the accident, is apparent – as it is in the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, a universally reviled made-for-TV variety show, in which he appears, very obviously, under a thick coat of make-up and on heavy painkillers.
>>
>>198595170
Did the ebrake fail also?
>>
>>198592933
why his nose say 'AA"?
>>
>>198596146
But he doesn't look disfigured, he looks like a different person. Broader nose, older skin, different mouth and chin...Are you telling me they had some amazing plastic surgery back in late 70's to reconstruct his face? All things considered, it looks remarkably well done.

>>
Here is Mark Hamill at the Sweden premiere of Star Wars in December 1977. His accident was in January '77. The Christmas Special wasn't until November 1978, almost an entire year later.
So why did he look so weird in the Christmas Special?
>>
>>198596653
He's wearing a shit ton of eye liner in the special
>>
>>198596653
Because they had him in "TV makeup" which back in those days was basically theater makeup, which looks utterly ridiculous.
>>
>>198596718
And looks even worse in HD.
>>
As a kid I thought he just aged and had a bunch more experience as a Jedi. I remember feeling like Luke was me in ANH, and it was very cool to see him become a badass.
>>
>>198596216
>driving his car fast in the far left lane listening to 1812 overture

do you think he was wired off cocaine he probably got from Fisher or something or was he just a fucking spaz? it's a pretty retarded reason to get into a horrible accident. There is no doubt in my mind that Hamill, looking as he did in the mid 70s and in southern California partied pretty hard. even if he was a fucking fop-ass theater kid.

>>198591425

>What kind of car crash completely changes your facial features like this?
one where you're not wearing a seatbelt and you get a facefull of steering wheel and dash

>I don't think they had the technology to completely rebuild a destroyed face with plastic surgery at the time.
He got the best plastic surgery 1977 had to offer

Are you talking about both pictures, or one on the left or right? Luke's hair fit along with the trends of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The styling and haircut length gradually got a little shorter and differently-combed with each successive movie, though. Even Han Solo's hair changed somewhat noticeably, as his hair was less of a forwards fringe by the second movie, onwards, and his sideburns gradually got slightly shorter, keeping in line with the general '80s trends.
>>
>>198591425
He doesn't look that old for a mid-20s guy, or whatever age he was supposed to be by Return of the Jedi. For 1970s and 1980s standards, Mark Hamill looked quite young.
>>
>>198601244
That mushmouth fuck Greedo! I knew it all along! Shifty, bug-eyed cocksucker! Burn his planet from the stars!
>>
>>198591425
I'm sure it did suck for Hamill but in terms of the movies I thought it worked out. They made his look a bit darker and his face reflected that. It added some texture to his character.
>>
>>198601629
For Empire Strikes Back, they handled Mark Hamill's circumstances very well to have Luke Skywalker quite a bit mauled by that wampa near the beginning of the movie. It at least offered an in-universe explanation for why he looked so different. Prior to Luke getting beat up, his face was mostly concealed by the cold weather parka hood, if I recall, so his facial damage wasn't as immediately obvious, at first.
>>
>>198599007
His smile and optimism gone. He looks like super villain plotting to murder someone. He transformed into Garth Night without wearing fancy mustache.
>>
>>198592272
>>198592321
Concept it solid (deranged Dark Jedi clones Luke using his hand he lost on Bespin that the Empire found and cataloged on a warehouse world) but the name is one of the silliest things Zahn did in the Thrawn trilogy aside from Force negating lizards. In context I get it, Joruus named him Luuke because Joruus was a clone of Jorus, just a little Lucas style pottery. At least Luuke is more of a plot device than a character since all he does is scream and die to Mara Jade.

Dude spends years and thousands of dollars rebuilding a car but failed to use large enough brakes, which failed as they were entering an intersection with cars stopped for a red light. The car had full on seatbelts with over the shoulder straps, like race cars have, but because they were just shooting a relatively short video, they didn't use the shoulder straps for aesthetic reasons.

>Hamill was driving his new BMW along a freeway in Southern California, fast – while listening to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, of all things. He realised he was about to miss his exit, and swerved, hard, across four lanes in an attempt to reach it.
Holy based.
>>
>>198598949
He was doing something called "riding the brakes" where he basically was applying the brakes the entire time to keep the car from accelerating too fast. This caused them to overheat and stop working, which is why he basically crashes at full speed.

So obviously that car crash completely fucked his shit. Then he had some extensive plastic surgery, which, I'll admit turned out okay. He looks good in Episode 5, I never would have noticed he got his shit caved in if i wasn't aware, but there is definitely a difference when you compare ep4 luke to ep5.

My question is why has Hamill tried to cover up the severity of his accident over the years? Every time it's brought up he dismisses it as just some minor scratch but you can clearly see photos of the accident where his face is mangled and also in the holiday special where he looks borderline unhuman under layers of makeup. Why the big secret? Why has he never been honest about what truly happened? Is he trying to protect someone?

>Lando's first viewing of our hero.
At over an hour and a half into The Empire Strikes Back, Luke arrives at Cloud City and soon falls under attack by Imperial Stormtroopers escorting Leia, Chewbacca, and C3PO shortly after being shot at by Boba Fett. During this scene, Lando Calrissian lays his eyes on our hero for the very first time, and quickly loses interest. However, towards the end of this scene Lando appears to stare at Luke with a very perplexed expression. Being the proficient card player and gambler that he is, one would assume that Lando Calrissian had a very keen eye - perhaps the best eyes in the galaxy. It is therefore distinctly possible that Lando did in fact perceive a height change in Luke between two different viewings.
