I recommend reading the John Cheever short story. It is one of the best short stories of the 20th century. A surreal account of a man who had everything but loses it all during a life spent in selfish pursuits of his own wants and desires, living in self-delusion to ignore the negative consequences of his own actions before it's too late.

I loved discovering this film in 2015 and it felt like such a hidden gem and nobody really knew about it and I enjoyed how unique and interesting the concept was and how dreamy and vibrant the stylistic structure of the movie was. And now about ten years later I feel like a really great and interesting movie is being wasted on thoughtless cynical assholes, and its going to be a big meme now like Come and See was, and now this weird little movie that it felt like only I had seen is now just another piece of mindless pop culture everyone will just collectively agree is 'okay' and now will be just another object of mediocrity whenever I bring it up.
