It's better in some ways, worse in others. It really benefits by not focusing on an entire company, having three main leads provides a much more satisfying emotional through line. On the other hand, this hurts the pacing, because they were deployed at different times in different companies, so you are somewhat chained to their memoirs. The actual combat is also far more visceral and less romanticized in The Pacific, which plays better to its strengths. Honestly I love them both, and wouldn't change them or put one over the other.
