Underrated movies
>>
>>200709887
i consider myself a disney fan for the most part, and i've never seen either of these. in fact i've barely even heard of them. what gives?
>>
>>200709951
in the 90s there were so many s tier animated movies that these were considered subpar and had quiet launches
>>
>>200709887
They're pretty rated tbdesu.
>>200709951
Because you're under the age of 20 which is a bad thing and you should be ashamed of it.
>>
>>200710046
"considered subpar" or they are actually just shitty?
>>200710063
i wish bro, i'm mid-30s
>>
>>200710120
these are both solid, titan a.e. is the shitty odd man out movie
>>
>>200710120
Atlantis is good.

Treasure Planet is just Treasure Island in space but that still makes it a high flying, swashbuckling adventure in space. The art team got a lot of mileage out of the premise.
>>
>>200709887
How did they get away with copying the Stargate logo?
>>
The comedy relief robot in Treasure Planet is horrendous and ruins a lot of the 2nd act, everything else about the movie is good
>>
>>200710669
The logo? They copied the whole character of Daniel Jackson. Watch the opening scene.

i was having a good week, why did you remind me of the robot
>>
>>200709887
I never like Treasure Island, so never liked the story of Treasure Planet much either, but I can appreciate the art and styles. Also early use of 3D shit mixed in with 2D animation.

Atlantis I found meh and derivative. Not the most terrible thing ever, but looks like Warner Bros animation influence, but in a bad way, and sing you the song of my people bullshit.

why don't these movies have any representation at the parks if they're so decent?
>>
>>200710732
Damn, you're right.
>>
>>200711607
Well they are more than a year old, so they're probably racist now.
>>
I liked those and also Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Titan A.E. Normies have bad taste and are the reason we are stuck with slop.
>>
>>200711764
>Titan A.E
It isn't good
>>
>>200711666
any real reasons? they must have no nostalgia appeal at all, which leads back to me thinking they're probably just shitty
>>
>>200711607
stop trying to ruin shit.
>>
>>200711854
They're both very much cult classics and were never broadly appealing hits.
>>
>>200709887
>finally watch Atlantis 2: Back 2 Da Surface
>no Michael J. Fox
Disney has so many cursed sequels.
>>200710694
*Martin Short is horrendous
>>
>>200711979
i get that, but why? usually even cult classics you hear of every now and then
>>
>>200711607
>why don't these movies have any representation at the parks if they're so decent?
Treasure Planet was notably made during the period when Disney's 2D and 3D animation offices were warring with one another. A lot of big shots at the company made sure it didn't get very good marketing and then used its less than stellar performance as evidence that the 3D office should be getting all the funding.
>>
>>200711854
1. That actually is a 'real reason' for Disney no matter how stupid it sounds to a normal person, if you've been paying attention at all.

2. Treasure Planet was rather eclectic and felt a little discordant sometimes. Kind of like there shit that might appeal to different people, (eg. furfags), but shit they will equally dislike at the same time.

Atlantis honestly did just feel like a kiddie cartoon version of Stargate to me right from the start, in a bad way, and couldn't hold my attention. Michael J. Fox's performance as Daniel Jackson was just inferior in every way and I just couldn't get into it.

I assume the parks just follow the popularity of shit in general. But actually surprised they wouldn't have something there that's based on the IPs since they both had some visually interesting aspects.
>>
>>200712166
thanks for an actual response!
>>200712433
tommorowland is begging for something in theme that these should work for, no?
>>
>>200712433
Also a lot of good ideas I can cite, like the pirate's swiss army arm was cool and 3D. While for 2D the character of Morph is like an animators wet dream, should have been cute an' all, but somehow just doesn't work.

The fags on /co/ still drool over the blue bitch from Atlantis to this day. Probably what the Avatar furries were into before that movie. Also interesting to see the similarities between those films while you're at it.
>>
>>200712668
Jesus those outfits look like absolute shit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKr820QUyT8

Though I guess the biggest omission now I think about it would be that Kida is a princess, so you'd think she'd show up in that line up somewhere along the line.

>The fags on /co/ still drool over the blue bitch from Atlantis to this day. Probably what the Avatar furries were into before that movie.
You're talking about the human woman with brown skin and white hair, who has two small stripes of blue facepaint under one eye?
>>
>>200712773
Safe and sexy brown cartoon chicks are never going out of style. See Chel
>>
>>200713309
Yeah whatever, I never paid that much attention before.

Now I look at it though, kinda crazy they couldn't get some skinny brown bitch, slap a platinum wig and some glowing blue crystal shit on her, and have her walk around the park. Would be look good and be popular enough, and employ some of those minorities they're always going on about.

Though looks like they feel the need to cover skin in that Disney Paris video, despite the revealing outfit in the actual kid's film.

Zoomer detected, opinion rejected.
>>
>>200713724
That character was bland, and so was Drew Barrymore's acting.
>>
>>200713593
Does she spend the whole movie like that, or is it only for that one brief scene?
>>
No shortage of cosplaying whores doing a decent job ot it:

>>200711437
eww that's the fake Daniel Jackson from that crappy movie before SG-1
>>
>>200713829
It's just a couple minute long scene, but since when has that ever stopped anyone from fixating on something for porn purposes?
>>
>>200711796
I really liked the first 20% of the movie before that extremely bitchy kangaroo ayy showed up.
>>
>>200713937
Ha. I saw that movie when it first came out and Shanks was the fake. Spader was great in that role. Shanks is a good replacement and like them both.

You can see why they would have ripped off the opening scene though, because it really is the shit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mq1RPu2aaU4

Then the way he translates the Stargate shit is kino as hell:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WskWZfFpWNI

Even if you don't like the rest of the film, that's all good stuff, and it's not like Disney hasn't taken 'inspiration' from existing material before. Disney's just doesn't work as well.
>>
>>200714046
The only scene I remember is them trying to infiltrate a location in homemade disguises and the guard points out one of them is wearing a bedsheet.

Atlantis is great. Need to rewatch Treasure Planet. I wonder if either will get a live action adaption.
