How come the west isn't into mecha?
>>
tranny genre
>>
>give him the schematics to make the most powerful mobile suit up to date
>surprised he beats you
why was Char so retarded?
>>
>five anime threads pop up at the same time
what a coincidence I'm sure it's completely organic
>>
>>200731786
I’m into mecha.
>>
I like the robot romance trilogy, anything newer and I lose interest
>>
>>200731786
The mech is a man's romance. Weak, effeminate westerners can never understand the glory of heavy duty machinery and the pilot's power and freedom.
Unless they're watching Top Gun Maverick, I guess
>>
>>200731786
the first pacific rim was honestly a fair shake at a super robot kaijuu thing. not sure what other western properties one can adapt.

Robot Jox was ahead of its time and was a proto G Gundam so don't expect anything like that again either, that was a bit crummy but extremely soulful. it's all downhill from those two

the last time some jap said this, they ended up getting 2 nukes dropped on them
>>
Because all the main characters are always tranny men
>>
I like anime but to me there's something intrinsically silly in giant humanoid robots fighting in space.
>>
>>200731786

Because America has nukes
>>
>eastern mech garbage
not interested sorry!
>>
>>200732800
Which shows just how intimidated the Americans are by the sappy jappies in their fancy war machines

Power Rangers made me not have any interest in the genre
Thought it was cool when I was 5 years old but as I got older I grew out of Power Rangers but always associated mechas with that show
Still thought Pacific Rim, Evangelion and some of The Transformers movies are cool (been considering getting into some of the pre2000s Gundams series but I don't have much enthusiasm about watching new anime anymore)
>>
>>200733237
Transformers are not mechs
>>
>>200731786

Gundam wing did pretty good here.
Before that you had Macross and god only knows how many OVAs that were mecha.
Mecha was pretty popular here for a long time, people stopped taking an interest in it when the future got hijacked and people stopped having something to dream about.
>>
>>200733341
they're close enough
>>
>>200731786
I think flesh mechs are cool like attack on titan mechs fighting is intrinsically more distant and less impactful/human. DBZ fights will always be cooler that the coolest most over the top mech fights
>>
>>200732577
did you like raxephon? That romance elements?
>>
Evangelion ruined the genre as a whole for an entire generation of people and when most Westerners think of Gundam, they think of Wing, which is one of the worst (and gayest) ones.
>>
>>200733379
I started watching gundam wing but lnever finished it since there are shorter run anime. Thought that escaflowne mixed the fantasy with the mecha very well. The emperor is still a cool antagonist.
>>
>>200732577
I had no clue what the Romance Trilogy is, so I just had to google it now
>combatler V
>voltes V

all my favorites hell yea
>>
Mech is just Japanese capeshit. I'm a filthy weeb and even I won't watch it
>>
>>200732647
>Top Gun Maverick, I guess
which was shit
>>
>>200731786
because the "mecha" genre is 1% cool robots and 99% relationship drama starring whiny kids. even when they tried to do mature mecha, like patlabor, it ended up being the same shit

we love mecha

unfortunately we've got little patience for long winded teenager political drama and mecha series which contain 10-15% actual mecha on screen (let alone fighting) (such as the entirety of the gundam franchise, evengalion, etc.)

the robots? the sick animation? great. more of that.
less of whatever the fuck all the dialog and filler in evangelion was. just front-load the well-animated robot fights set to classical music.

"oh we're so proud about being pacifist cucks with no global military impact, here's a whiny autistic gay teen with daddy problems realizing he's a pussy every episode until eventually theres a giant robot kicking a weird alien monster's ass on your screen instead, please sit through this slop in anticipation of the 3 minute fight scenes, lovable goyi- i mean gaijin"

Pretentiousness.

Pacific Rim Uprising is objectively a better film than the first, but because it didn't have Del Toro's name attached people acted like it was bad. It was a great movie.
>>
>>200734078
>nooo stop talking about the human condition, I just want to watch things blow up!
Even if you were this retarded, it's basic economics. Fight scenes cost a lot. 2 characters talking to each other require about 3 frames of animation.
>>
Wasn't Power Rangers a mecha show? it was pretty popular.

comically retarded opinion. the first one was halfway decent. the second one was trash, and that's not even taking into account the fact you have to stare at big, fat, niggerlips half the time
>>
>>200734516
Elaborate. I'd warrant a guess that you never even watched it, you stupid insecure retarded /pol/cuck.
>>
>>200734199
the intro song was so awesome that walking in from elementary school and being told there is a new channel and power rangers was just starting was ecstatic.
>>
>>200731786
It was only popular for a brief time when toonami first started airing shows like gundam wing, the big O and NGE. After that came the shonen wave with shit like naruto and bleach. Whatever mecha anime that aired after just wasn't that interesting to keep western fans interested and now most of it just flies under the radar.
>>
>>200734432
TTGL was shit, trigger is THE reddit studio and has never made anything good.

>>
>>200731786
Because people in the West are bigger and stronger, they don't need mecha suits to make figting look cool.
>>
>>200731827
he was an arrogant ass who thought he could beat Amuro with pure skill the same way he managed to get the upper hand in almost every encounter in the OG series but lost because the RX78 was just to strong to beat with his shit Zaku
If he would have won with the Sazabi while Amuro still uses an outdated Mobile Suit it wouldn't prove him to be the superior pilot
>>
>>200734869
Exactly, Transformers cut out the literal middlemen, and showed how unnecessary they are.
>>
>>200734975
had the poster from EGM and it was awesome.
>>
>>200737158
Which means they're literally not mecha, they're just robots.
>>
>>200731786
>>200731786
Aircraft were the mobile suits of WW2 naval warfare and thats just part of some japanese peoples psyche. Gundam is about turning dog fights from metaphorical duels into literal ones.
>>
>>200734168
I know this is ChatGPT but I'm replying for the sake of my mental.
They killed Mako off because of the Chinese market.
Boyega's character was completely forgettable.
The mech designs were uninspired and they were too fast and comically light, the orange one even wall kicks a building without destroying it.
Nobody in my theater laughed at the "trolololo" scene, it was just lip service to a meme that died before the first movie aired, let alone 2018.
Destroying all the mechs in one single battle isn't epic like the movie was going for, it just makes humanity look like jobbers.
The film was just hot garbage.
>>
>>200731786
too masculine
>>
>>200734869
The toyline Transformers were originally created around called Diaclone were mecha though and had pilots. They only became robots when Americans decided to import the toys and make their own new storyline around them. Transformers are technically not mecha but they definitely have roots in it
>>
>>200738419
They killed Mako for an emotional impact scene to act as a motivator for the MC, which was better than the first movies attempts
Boyega was no less forgettable than Charlie Hunam; in fact he, Cailee and Eastwood were a great trio with surprisingly believable chemistry
The mech designs were much better in Uprising compared to the first one which had weird and ugly designs that no one liked
The trololo scene wouldn’t be understood by normies, only terminally online retards
Humanity IS jobbers, that’s the whole point of a Kaiju movie

The movie was fantastic and you’re a retard. Your mental sucks because you should kys.

Patlabor, in my mind was a good halfway house between the more fantastical Gundam mech designs and the industrial more realistic western designs
It also benefitted from top tier animation, which unfortunately can't be replicated in this day and age

No they didn't. Del Toro wanted to kill off Mako for his sequel pitch. The Chinese hated 2 and it flopped over there.
