Where did they fail to pivot?
>>200749103Honestly physical media needs some innovation. VHS to DVD took 20 years, DVD to Blu-ray took 10 years. It's now been 18 years since Blu-ray and 28 since dvd; I know one person that still has a standalone Blu ray player, everyone else just uses a console. And even then they're usually just streaming movies on it or downloading games. It seems like a no-brainer too. Everyone is so used to streaming bitrates now that if you find a way to rebrand and re-release Blu-ray most of the world will hail the amazing new high definition picture.
>>200749765I would like to think that whatever Innovators we have left are busy with more important shit than physical entertainment media.
>>200749907I guess streaming WAS the innovation too. I'm surprised that game developers haven't invested into it as people are getting tired of downloading 130GB+ from shitty ISPs. But once your profits soar from cutting out physical production and distribution I imagine it's hard to go back.
>>200749765Problem is modern movies are shit not worth owning and this is the opinion of normies not just some elitist 4chan sperg. While they've somewhat had success remastering the classics on bluray, there's a dead end to that too and I doubt they can convince people to buy those movies all over again with a bluray successor cause you can only do so much retroactively to make it worth investing in new equipment for.
>>200750108The input lag on your average gamers shitty console and TV setup is already bad enough. You don't want to introduce more.
>>200749765Physical media shouldn’t exist lol
>>200749103You will own nothing. Eat the bugs
>>200749103I stopped renting video games from Redbox because it was ridiculously expensive for how short you had it. I've never rented movies from them but they're competing against Amazon and Apple so it makes sense that they can't.
>>200750630You're a zoomer
>>200749765All movies worth owning on physical media have been already released. Why would you pay 20$ for a piece of plastic containing capeshit?
>>200750630t. socialist
>>200749103 Fuck
>>200749765I wish I would remember what it was called, but a comp sci major roommate was writing a report about some new optical holographic encoding that was a possible replacement for Blu Ray. This was back in like 2006.
