Its pure slop where things just kind of arbitrarily happen. Its good for neat sentences sprinkled in, but if the plot followed the book the studio/test audiences wouldn’t follow or care about whats happening.

Even the most loving adaption of berserk will never have the detailed backgrounds that give the panels such majesty, nor will it have lost children. Similarly, the strength of videogames is player agency, so any film adaption is going to be watered down version. I figure its something to do with a sense of legitimacy or an insecurity over the respectability of the original medium, like "look mom, this videogame/comic/novel isn't actually kid shit, because it its now been made into a film and I can like it without being ashamed"
