should we edit old movies to make them look better, more cinematic and modern?
>>
>better
>modern

>desaturate the colors and apply a monotnous blue overlay = gud grafics
Yes, I remember when I was 14 years old and was learning how to do color grading for the first time in my renders and photos.

Color correction is something that should be used to enhance individual frames to get a desired mood or effect, not just splattered uniformily where it doesn't fit. Queue the opposite extreme on the other hand, where you get oversatured rainbow vomit instead.

I wonder how I would have felt about Dune if it came to movies when I was in HS.

Literally the most stacked cast in Cinema history. Long adaptation that makes justice to the original. A good director. No bullshit.
>>
>>201685651
That's horrendous. They're deliberately punishing consumers, mistreating them. If what you show there was sold.

>>
>>201685651
This image stokes a really strong nostalgia in me. Why does everything fucking suck now

Sure, why not? Change the colors to your heart's content.
>more cinematic
they are already cinematic dummy
>modern
What does this even mean? Increase the cuts/minute to 40?
>>
The blue tint in film is a result of the aging of Hollywood technical experts. As you age the lenses in your eye yellow. The blue and piss filters look better to 60 and 70 year old eyes as it matches the aging of the cornea and lens

Am I the only person who is meh with Greig Fraser cinematography???

Dune just looks so fucking boring to me and The Batman was just alright. I just never understand the praise behind him.

Dune looks like a drab, 7th generation computer game. Just awful.
>>201689057
>Greig Fraser
Is that who did Dune? Why the fuck did he not go with Deakins?
Also you posted a screen from the cropped version instead of the original, correct aspect ratio IMAX version.

They scanned and released it in 4K.

Any proof that this isn't how the actual 35mm film looks like?

Let’s just go over the Mona Lisa every couple of years, give her cooler clothes and hair. Keep her fresh.
It’s cultural vandalism is what it is.
