>>201702579Ballad of a soldier (1960)A soldier gets leave to go home and meet his elderly mom but he falls in love with a female comrade along the way. It was made during the Khrushchev era when movies had less of a propaganda about socialism angle to them. It’s a really sweet romance movie and was the first Soviet movie shown in US theaters in 1960.

>>201702579soviet cinematography is shit. it was bogged down by all the retarded rules and censorship. and if americans got rid of their hays code soviets couldn't because it was state imposed so they could only produce boring slop about milkmaids falling in love with tractor drivers. that's part of the reason why modern russian cinema is so shit, they just couldn't evolve naturally.
>>201702579There was a magazine called "Soviet Screen" that took a survey of what was the best movie of the year by readers. There is a Russian wiki article "Лyчший фильм гoдa (Coвeтcкий экpaн)" on the results, just Google it and translate, or check the English article versions for movie names. Basically all of them are worth seeing, even just from historical perspective. Most movies are on YouTube but I'm not sure about subtitles. It's really sad that they were forced to shove commie propaganda in each and every one of them though. My personal favorite is The Cranes Are Flying, one of the best movies ever in my opinion
>>201704960>milkmaids falling in love with tractor driversKino as hell.
>>201705247Watch Merry Go Round/ Korhinta if you want a famous movie like this from a socialist country. It’s boring as all heck. 2/10 Fascist era Hungary at least had Hyppolit a lakaj which is one of my favorite movies.
>>201705286Nah, for me, it's the Communist Poland's Czterej pancerni i pies.
Dead Man's Letters is really incredible. It's hard to find with subtitlbes, but it's absolutely worth it.
The '05 mini series of The Master and Margarita was pretty good.
