The thing about the decline of the Simspons is that lot of people found the wacky scenario episodes appealing when they were fresh, but they don't hold up as well, and are generally recognised as being a mark of the decline. Hence why a lot of people disagree about when things fell off, because they were still watching it fresh in season 9, 10, 11, and so on, and have nostalgia blinkers. It's actually fairly clear on a rewatch that season 9 is where things fall apart, and the show peaked in seasons 4-6.
