Bitterbridge was probably part revenge and part calculated to keep the army happy and motivated. Impossible conduct medieval style warfare without a least some sacking. As for Jace I think he was screwed no matter what. His claim is even worse than Rhaenyra's as long as Viserys male decedents existed. Plus Daemon would 10000% have killed him in any event. Book Daemon would do anything to put his sons on the throne.
