I've noticed a significant drop in the quality this season overall but I don't follow the behind the scenes stuff did we lose a writer/director or get any new ones this season? I find it hard to believe this season was by the same people who did the first season.

This is the season where shit starts to really hit the fan but the scenes are so dull as the characters just robotically respond to the news of the latest events. How the the first season handled Viserys gave me really high expectations because in the book it was such a flat and impotent character but in the first season they somehow turned this nothing character into a very likable and endearing person. Yet this second season has made me hate the entire cast as they all act like morons, They even somehow made Daemon, one of the most fun characters to read about, unwatchable this season. it's mind blowing how they fumbled so hard.

Nta, but after the absolute shitshow of a season HotD has had, I'm finally able to go back and rewatch GoT for the first time since S8 aired. Yes, S8 is still terrible and yes, I can see the cracks starting to show in season 5, but those first 4 seasons where D&D had all the source material as a go by they really did strive to make a well crafted genuinely entertaining work that was a faithful adaptation of the books. Compared to S2 HotD which is an absolute shitshow and makes dozens of retarded deviances from the already established source material, it's staggering to see how terrible GoT could've been were it in the hands of far more retarded showrunners than Dan and Dabid.

The final seasons of GoT are terrible still like I said, but that can be contributed more to burnout and the fat fuck not finishing the books, as opposed to an outright malevolent drive to subvert the original story and cram it full of dogshit tumblr tier fanfic like the HotD writers feel like they're doing. HotD is complete ass, but at least it's allowed me to come back to GoT and appreciate it better.

None of the 'main' characters face consequences for ANYTHING once the show goes beyond the books. Obviously, all the characters that survive till the end have plot armour since it's a work of fiction and all, but it's the quality of writing that determines how well it is concealed.
