IIRC after the academy arc, there's a stronger focus on her revenge shit but the theatrics never really stop. While I did really enjoy The Double, it's certainly not perfect and some can find the dramatics cringe. Don't force yourself to continue if you aren't enjoying it, there's plenty of other dramas out there. Cdramas have much more drag potential due to their episode counts, which can be even more inflated than kdrama ones. Even Three Body had this issue (director wanted 24-26 eps but tencent made them do 30). In terms of pacing, I personally have better luck with stuff below 40 episodes.

Just watched the Frog. Pretty good. But the splitting of the storylines was weird. At the beginning I thought the Lakehouse owner was the same guy as the motel owner. It would have made sense story wise>as a younger guy, motel owner has murder happen at his motel. the media firestorm ruins his business and family>as an older man he now runs and rents a lakehouse. A woman kills a guy and he decides to cover it up to avoid another firestorm, but gets another firestorm insteadAnd there were so many odd things>Why did the female Captain come back to the town?>Why did the lakehouse owners family seem to dislike him?>How did the crazy lady get away with everything like crashing her car into the art show and speeding into a car in front of the police station?
