wtf??? how has this lame dogshit show been on for 50 fucking years??? nobody actually still watches this crap, do they?
>>
>>203688011
they gotta find some new weekend update hosts, Jost & Che are phoning it in big time in recent years like theyre sick of hosting it but like most people on SNL nowadays they stay forever because comedy is dead so theres nowhere to go after SNL anymore
>>
>>203688011
The pre-taped segments are always better than the live sketches. I have no idea why they even bother doing it live.

television seems to have something of a legacy fetish. nobody watches this boomer slop any more than they watch the Simpsons or late night talk shows but the metals Methuselah likes in charge of these networks can't let go of "old profitable thing" even when it hasn't been profitable in decades. Seriously, Summe Sumner Redstone only died like a year or two ago and he was like 100 when he finally kicked it. and Rothschild was like 97. Does the NSDT3 gene imbue longevity as well as schizophrenia and Stay Sachs?

For me, it's the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChicken sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.

I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it's delicious! What a great restaurant.

why did all the men in 70s SNL all have porn mustaches back then? i remember always wondering why Aykroyd would be playing Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter in sketches with a mustache then realized that was cuz Aykroyd on SNL almost always had a mustache i dont think they cared about the people looking like the person they were impersonating in those days, like Chevy would just look like himself playing President Ford

70s- good but dated since i wasnt born i dont know a lot of the references but im sure it was funny at the time, the less topical stuff is pretty funny
early 80s- same, but a way less talented cast save for Eddie Murphy (and to a lesser extent Joe Piscopo) pretty much carrying the show
late 80s to early 90s - pretty much the golden era of the show with Hartman, Carvey, Lovitz, Hooks, Miller on Weekend Update all saving the show. and then into the early 90s it got even better when Sandler, Farley, and Spade guys all came in
mid to late 90s- Will Ferrell years and Norm doing Weekend Update, probably the last great era, not as good as era before it with Hartman and Farley, but probably the next best
early 2000s-kinda a step down but the Tina Fey Jimmy Fallon era of Weekend Update made the show feel freah for a while
mid to late 2000s- yeah Hader, Samberg, Wiig and Sudeikid def breathed new life into the show. and Samberg and his buddies definitely reinvented the show again with the digital shorts
everything from 2010s to now- pretty much dogshit aside from Kyle Mooneys occasional brilliance which was usually sidelining for some annoying Kate McKinnon unfunnyness. Jost and Che's Weekend Updates have been the only saving graces for modern SNL and even theyre getting kinda tiresome at this point theyve been doing the segment over 10 years longer than anyone. Seems like every 5 years they should bring in someone new for that gig
>>

1995-1998 was abismal
>>
>>203688750
Nah those years were good, you had Norm doing Weekend Update, Will Ferrells sketches were outrageous (ppl forget he used to be funny cuz he sucks now), Cheri Oteri and Jim Breuer were also great as the wacky weirdos of the cast, hell even Chris Kattan was way funnier than hes given credit for, and Tracy Morgans crazy black guy shtick was always good for a laugh too

Norm was the best, but Miller was probably the first guy to make Weekend Update funny, before him the segment was dire (go back and watch the Charles Rocket, Brad Hall, Christopher Guest or Brian Doyle-Murray anchored seasons... woof!) Dennis was the first to make the segment more stand-up persona oriented, where everyone before that played it more straight in a faux newmans persona

you have to watch the earlier season as almost an historical object.

comedy sensitivities have really changed in half a century.

Most people in here are saying the 90s were the peak so not sure what you mean. Also ironic that you'd post one of the 90s writers to try and make a point about how modern SNL holds up (i can only assume that's your point, otherwise you don't have one)

I said 70s snlfag was doing his usual routine. I didn't say anything about most people.

SNL died for me when they got rid of Saturday TV Funhouse, they should have just made that into its own sketch series on Comedy Central or something.
I know they have the “Best Of” available on DVD, but is there a collection of every single one of their sketches available? The X-Presidents still crack me up hard.

it was the original hollywood ritual
if you wanted to be "famous", you just "had" to host SNL episode
This applies to musicians as well. If you wanted to be "famous", you just had to play on SNL

You can see from history of other episodes, what others they were shilling, what musicians they were shilling at any given time.

All created by a jew who was born in Mandatory Palestine. Yes, that's not a joke. Look it up.

based, for me its the Charles Rocket Gilbert Gottfried season, who were instantly hated because it was the first time SNL had to replace the beloved original cast with a group of nobodies. i actually dont mind the season, dont find it as terrible as ive always heard it was, its more artsy and going for weird over funny than most SNL seasons. Charles Rocket was pretty good on the show too, and was always good playing a prick in different movies over the years. also its kinda cool hearing Gilberts real voice before he was known for the famous yelling voice he always talked in in everything else hes done ever since

they were all there in 86? If so I take it back, all I remember is I stopped watching the show at some point in the 80s and didn't really start again until I happened to catch a funny skit about a church lady years later, then a few years later when they had Farley and Sandler and Spade and all that I even started taping them for a couple of seasons (like 92 and 93)

Lovitz and Miller and Dunn were actually there in 85 they were part of the troubled season with Quaid and Downey Jr as seen above>>203690607

before Lorne cleaned house and got just kept Lovitz and Dunn, with Miller on Weekend Update. very first episode with the new cast had Dana Carvey doing Church Lady and Choppin Broccoli, it was obvious from one episode in those guys were gonna save SNL, this was the first sketch of the night with the brand new Hartman, Carvey and Hooks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUMV1xq31rw
they seemed like seasoned pros right outta the gate, compare that to most new cast members now who seem like ppl whove never been on tv before, green as hell, usually takes a season or two for them to get good, if they ever do

also that season where they brought in some recognizable names to replace Eddie and Piscopo like Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest and Martin Short. but that was just one season. its kinda crazy they went from 1986 to 1990 with no blacks, wasnt until Chris Rock joined in 1990 they finally had a black in the cast again, then Ellen Cleghorne and Tim Meadows the following year I think

100%. I don't think they have any great live performers anymore, and they've increasingly relied on pre-tapes. >>203699955
Because he actually was a mixed bag. He started strong in 89-91 but he hung around way too long. 93-95 he is absolute junk, you can see how comparatively smart it was of Carvey to leave in early 93 once Bush Sr lost. Most of Myers sketches weren't good with the rest of the cast, and he was always an asshole and difficult to work with too.

Hartman and Carvey were fantastic leads for the show, and Lovitz/Nealon were great at backing them up. Myers is talented and a nice shot in the arm as a feature in 89 but as he took over more and more of the show it upset the equilibrium.
